I had a very poor experience at Bar Genevieve. I celebrated my best friend's bridal shower here with a reserved table on a Saturday afternoon. There was 1 (one) server. So as you can imagine the wait was VERY long. The server also (understandably, he was very busy) served our drinks to the wrong table so we never received them. We were charged for the drinks but after the server realized we never got them they were taken off our checks. This place is beautiful but beware. Management is very shotty as I watched the bar manager and hostess watch the ONE server struggle with an entire restaurant of tables for two hours. With the high price point and elevated dress code/decor, I expected a lot more professionalism. (Checking in with tables who waited 30+ mins for water, explaining the situation before seating us, etc.) My salad was fine, the hummus plate was very basic, and the fries were cold. I don't blame the server AT ALL but as the maid of honor I was so disappointed my best friend's bridal shower was such an awful guest experience. I'd love to review the drinks but as I mentioned they never came :/. I wouldn't trust this place with big occasions, or celebrations just in case. I might go back to try the cocktails but I can't trust they'll staff the place properly. read more

Extremely rude and unprofessional bartender! After waiting for a good 20 mins after ordering a drink - all while watching the 3 people behind the bar just standing there and chatting with each other, the bartender found it necessary to YELL at me in front of the entire restaurant after I questioned his short pour of my prosecco. I was seated about 15 feet from the bar facing it and watched the bartender open the bottle of prosecco, and pour it quickly - it of course bubbled to the top, but when it settled, the standard size flute was less than 1/2 full. Usually, bubbles fill up about 2/3 of the glass. I'm a middle-aged woman and I typically order prosecco so I consider myself very familiar what this pour should look like. So when the server brought it to me, I asked if it was a short pour and he agreed and said he would take it back to get topped off. I then watch the bartender get irritated, roll his eyes, then yell at me across the bar to my table, "Oh you didn't think it was enough?" He then takes the glass and pours it really aggressively into a carafe' that they use to measure wine and it (obviously) bubbles up again and quickly to the top of the carafe. He then yells, "I ACTUALLY OVER-POURED YOU, SO NOW YOU'RE GONNA GET EVEN LESS!". The entire restaurant stopped and was staring at him and then at me. I yelled back, "I don't want it!". My 18 year old daughter was with me and had ordered a coke and some fries. I asked the server for the check. The manager came come over and apologized and let us have the coke and the fries to go. The only redeeming thing about this place is the decor and the view, but it is not worth it for the humiliating experience and unprofessional bartender. So if you're the guy with the mustache and the gauged ears, I hope you find another job in an industry that is not customer-facing and Bar Genevieve sends you on your way QUICKLY. read more

For the price of the drinks, the quality of the cocktails were a bit disappointing. We ordered three drinks with the daiquiri being the only one that really tasted good. Decor is beautiful but bar seating is a bit uncomfortable. We watched one member of staff scoop an ice cube out of a glass with her bare hands. Watched another staff member from a different floor come up to the counter, stick his hand into the lemon slices, and proceed to eat one while standing at the bar. The margarita we ordered had red bits of who knows what floating in with the ice. For such a nice establishment, we were grossed out by the cleanliness and proceeded to pay our bill and leave. read more

Came in with a reservation for 3. Arrived to find the patio was completely booked for a private event. They sat the 3 of us around a tiny table which is fine for just drinks but this is a full service place. The seating is intimate so be prepared to rub elbows with strangers. We ordered some house cocktails: a Paloma, their signature martini, and a vodka martini. Drinks were fine but overpriced. We got fries and the server recommended the cauliflower. The fries were well seasoned but not fresh. Green goddess dip was yummy. The cauliflower was really delicious and I'd recommend that if you go. We wandered over here for a quieter nightcap after dinner at a raucous venue down the street. Service was great here and we were all pleased with our beverage choices. I opted to have a no alcohol option since I had a bit of a drive and a next day early wake-up. I appreciated the choices and one of the lesser known options being offered. Beautiful space and terrific views day or night. Well maintained and fairly comfortable. Seating in the bar area with smaller tables did make us feel a bit "sunken" below the table top height when seated and tipped backward at a bit of an uncomfortable angle. read more

Great ambiance and fantastic service, but not everything is a hit for the price. I love their happy hour bubbles special ($5, $10, & $15 bubble options), the $5 is delicious. However, I've had those happy hour oysters twice and they tasted off both times. Not bad, but the flavors were wrong. The first time I had the fries I loved them but then the second time they were not crispy at all. They had good seasoning but I wouldn't get them again now. The vegetable platter is delicious but pretty pricey. Although it it a good amount. Overall, it's a nice place and I love their $5 special, but a bit over rated. read more

This place is attached to the hotel we were staying in. I love a rooftop bar and this one didn't disappoint. The view is nice and there was lots of seating, both indoor and outdoor. I recently had a solo girl dinner at Bar Genevieve, and it was an excellent experience! That was my first time visiting their space, and I really loved the decor, the vibes, and of course, the rooftop views! They do a happy hour special during the week with $5, $10, and $15 bubbles. I ordered the $5 bubbles to drink, and for my "girl dinner", I had the bar fries and the corn ribs. Both were so flavorful and perfectly seasoned! My server was very attentive and friendly. When I went to the terrace to check out more of the rooftop views during golden hour, I even got to witness a romantic proposal! The drinks were delicious. Like, 10/10 great. I was underwhelmed when my $15 cocktail was served in a plastic cup though. If it's above $10, I deserve a glass. I said what I said. My group of 3 was excited to get a 7:15p reservation for the holiday season. Definitely make this a priority as this space stays busy and from our observation, also understaffed. The team there hustled all night but service was slow. We were happy to linger but if you are on a schedule I'd be proactive about getting the check. The food menu was small. The primary meal was a burger and fries, the others were small plates only. I got the crepe and goat cheese croquettes but neither knocked my socks off. The charcuterie tray was awesome though. Out on a going away party tonight. Attempted to stop in with 8 girls, but without a reservation. The manager was beyond rude. As soon as we walked off the elevator shaking her head at us and saying "nope. No reservation no deal". Mind you there were 4 open seats at the bar that we said we would happily utilize. She said you can go outside. She actually stood by as we got our drinks to make sure we didn't stay at the bar. It's 34 degrees outside, but we were told a fireplace and heaters were available. What a gorgeous spot! Whether you choose to sit inside or out, you can see for miles from the rooftop of the Hotel Genevieve in NuLu, taking in the downtown Louisville skyline and the Ohio River bridges. The feminine decor gives Parisian vibes in keeping with the rest of the hotel. Could be very romantic if you're up here in time to catch the sunset! My lunch companions and I enjoyed one of the prettiest charcuterie boards I've seen in recent memory, along with a cute little bowl of olives and the bar's own stylized version of a Hot Brown. This is such a fun place a date night! Very awesome view of Louisville, which is great at night with all the lights. The bar has lots of options even if you don't drink. Very unique choices as well. The patio area is nice with an outdoor bar (which was closed when we were there so not sure when it's available). There is great seating and a cozy fireplace too. The indoor seating where the bar is located is also very nice and lots of space for bigger groups. The service was great and answered lots of questions from us when we asked about certain drinks on the menu and what was in them. You have to take the elevators to get to the floor with the bar which, to our knowledge, was not very evident or advertised. We just saw the "rooftop" bar and decided to explore. read more

Great cocktails, great service, and great views! After arriving at our hotel we decided to go up to the 6th floor and check out the bar. It is very spacious and has an elegant vibe. The patio was beautiful and had great views of the city but there was too much shade (you won't typically find me complaining about that!) for a March afternoon. We decided to sit inside and were greeted warmly by the servers/bartenders. We each ordered a cocktail and then decided on our snacks. My wife got a few oysters which she said were delicious! We shared the fries (delicious!) and a charcuterie board. The cheese selection was unexciting (two hard cheeses, one was some kind of her cheddar, and the other was possibly a romano or something similar) but it came with a salami and prosciutto and some good accompaniments. One of the best views of the city! Plus the drinks and service and ambiance -- just yes! My husband and I ventured up to Bar Genevieve while out celebrating our anniversary. The night was hot but not stifling, and the sky was clear -- great rooftop bar weather. We first visited the patio, which not only boasts those aforementioned views of NuLu and downtown but also an outdoor bar. There were several tables and counters that one could cozy up to in the intimate space. But we had already eaten outside and were looking for a spot indoors. Happily, Bar Genevieve had that covered too. We were able to get a table without a wait and ordered cocktails. I got the Blueberry Spritz, and my husband got the Alter Ego, our server's recommendation, which is made with pineapple, Campari and grapefruit. And as we drank, we admired the decor, which is a mix of antiques and more modern pieces. Like so much else in Hotel Genevieve, this looks plucked out of a Wes Anderson movie. Our server was attentive and also recommended a fun shot -- that was about the size of half a cocktail. I felt like I was visiting a new city while here. Bar Genevieve is NuLu's newest bar on the top floor of the recently completed Hotel Genevieve. The view alone is worth the trip to the top. You can take the elevators from inside the hotel or use the convenient entrance on the left side of the hotel. The decor is a lovely eclectic mix celebrating Louisville and Kentucky. There is a very spacious indoor area with lots of seating options and a gorgeous bar. The indoor portion of the bar is full of windows and the views over the city are incredible. Completing the package is an amazing, beautiful outdoor rooftop space with a second bar and more seating options. Get out and see this beautiful space. I had a lovely chardonnay.
