We were in town for 4 days and ate dinner at Repeal 3 nights. This place was within walking distance to our hotel, but so were others. It's a nice hotel, and a pleasant steakhouse, but not sure it demands quite that much love. Most importantly, they don't know how to cook a steak. The flavor is spot on, you can really taste the wood fire, and the steaks are seasoned well. But the wife ordered a filet medium and it came out blood rare. My medium rare strip was presented rare, which I'm ok with, though it was noticeably still a bit more cooked than her "medium" filet. Having to return a steak to get it cooked properly, at an apparently well respected upscale steakhouse, is a disappointment, a big bump in the middle of a pleasant evening. We started with the oysters rock, which were quite good, and quite large. The french onion soup was a nice classic version. We split an heirloom tomato salad, and each still got two very large and thick slices of tomato, making the split a good sized salad for each of us. The balsamic pearls were a treat. An unexpected pleasure were the parker house rolls. Yum. Though between enjoying them, with the split salad, splitting the oysters, and the soup, we'd clearly over ordered! Repeal is a pleasant fine dining spot in the midst of the Louisville downtown action. They just need to learn how to cook steaks to temp before they rise to a truly 5 star destination.

Me and my wife came here on April 28th to celebrate my birthday. I was greeted so nicely and showed to my table. Ben approached the table and introduced himself. Then moments later Jade introduced herself. They were our servers and they were both polite and made sure I was taken care of. Before I get into the food, the restaurant itself was beautiful. I also loved that they had a piano player which enhanced my birthday experience. For starters, I got a Espresso Mocktini which was so DELICIOUS! It was so silky smooth! I ordered the East/West coast oysters and they were quite tasty. For my main dinner, my wife and I shared the following: Bone-in Hatchet Steak- cooked to perfection! Not difficult to chew or cut. I haven't had a delicious steak in years like this one! Jeff Ruby's Baked Mac n cheese- How did they get my grandmother's recipe? Lol the best Mac n Cheese in Louisville Kentucky! Brussel Sprouts- So sweet and lovely. They were addicting! For dessert, they gifted me a chocolate cupcake. Now, I do not eat chocolate cake....but here, I ATE EVERY CRUMB! Overall, a CHEF'S KISS! Jeff Ruby's knows what they are doing. They have a formula that works and they have gained a loyal customer. Thank you Jeff Ruby's for the EXCELLENT HOSPITALITY!

This time, I had a memorable dinner at Jeff Ruby's, where the appetizers were truly the star of the show. The Freddie Salad was SO good I'm still dreaming of it--absolutely a must-order. We also loved the Bluefin Tuna Flight and the Shrimp Tempura. The bread with truffle butter was fantastic. For steaks, the Cowboy Steak was great, and the Australian Wagyu Ribeye Filet was cooked rare-plus vs medium rare. However, my Petite Filet Mignon, requested rare-plus, did not come out prepared correctly, leading me to eat more of the Wagyu. The Truffle Parmesan Fries were amazing, but the Classic Creamed Spinach was far too salty. The Oreo ice cream was the perfect end to the night. Service was good, making for a great atmosphere despite the minor temperature issue with the steak and my drink being a bit too salty (not sure why they salted the rim either)

There were many seats at the bar as well as couch and chair areas. They also have bathrooms down there. Service was outstanding. We had a bourbon flight and some cocktails. Our server even took group pics for us. He also provided menus so we could be prepared for dinner. When our table was ready, we reconciled our check and headed back upstairs. Upstairs, we had amazing service also. I ordered a cocktail that they had on the downstairs menu, and not the regular menu. It did not faze our server. He said he would figure it out- and he did! After a round of drinks, we stayed with appetizers: meatballs, fritto misto, piatto di frutti di mare and the crab cake. Everything was devoured. I loved the crab cake and the meatballs. The fried calamari was pretty standard and the cold seafood platter was fine- I had an oyster off of it. For dinner, I had the "Pappardelle" : short rib ragu alla bolognese, grano padano, and added two seared scallops. Wow. The pasta is homemade. It was phenomenal. My husband had the "Maiale" : 16oz pork chop, cauliflower puree, chard, stone fruit, bourbon glaze. It was a large portion and cooked perfectly. So good. Our friends had steaks and sides, so I was able to try the Mac and cheese- which did not get congealed! The corn was delicious and the mushrooms were a variety. Of course we had dessert. I asked for cannoli and they had it! They weee not soggy. I had three different favors. I love cannoli. These were really good. We also shared the millionaire's tart and some sort of apple crumble with ice cream. Yum. We had more round of drinks throughout including some fun ones - see the treasure chest video. I would recommend this place. They have a great menu. Drinks were awesome. Service topped everything. They went out of their way for us multiple times. Thanks so much. We can't wait to come back again.
