As we talk to customers..we own a business in Harbor Springs too for 30 years.. we waited. A table opened up & it was taken over by others. I went over to the redhead who first told us we had the next table. She asked if we were waiting for a table. After reminding her of the previous she said it was first come basis. There is a lot to like about Bar Harbor. Carla, the owner is always warm and friendly. Plenty of beers and liquor choices. The soups are delicious! Burger and fries always cooked the way I like it. Consistently top notch is why I continue to frequent the place. read more

Was forced to go back here, despite my protestations (the food was always good, but the proprietor is a violent style of crazypants), and the food has deteriorated considerably since I was last in. The perch sandwich is over-fried and over-breaded and comes with cheap potato chips, not the fries it used to. Reports on the hamburgers from others in my party were disappointing. The burgers were once good here but, apparently, no more (says my mother, the burger connoisseur). Something else I didn't remember is how dark it is in here -- the windows are deeply tinted, so even in the middle of the day you feel like you're in a basement. read more

With Juillerets gone we had to decide on something so why not a burger and a beer? There wee only two waitresses and I guess two cooks. Ordered the burgers for my wife and I. So far so good. Burgers took a bit as the place was semi busy but no worries. They come and look great. I bite into mine and its medium well. Wily wife's comes and although I might be able to eat a rare-ish burger she can't. I flag the girl down and ask if she can pop it in the microwave. No microwave. She does offer to throw it back on the grill. No sure how that works loaded with condiments. Blood all over the bun and cut in half. Recipe for disaster. How about let me take that mess and get you another? My wife picked at and are some fries. If you are not going to ask how you want it cooked bring them all cooked the same $30 for one over cooked, one undercooked burger and one beer. Took at least 15 mins to get bill read more

I loved the atmosphere and the Interior was MUCH different than what I expected from the outside. The food was delicious, and the selection of drinks was great! I loved having lunch there! The mozzarella cheese sticks were devine! The only problem I had was the bathroom. I'm sorry, Don't have two toilets in a bathroom if there isn't a divider. So there was a line up at the bathroom. But seeing as how the door locks there wasn't any issue with that. read more

Olive burger with onion rings is the speciality. We work for it, crave it and gobble it up. We are seasonal regulars for this dark in the outside but welcoming in the inside joint. Only complaint is the ladies bathroom has two toilets but no divider so "awkward" is the rule. They do have an exterior door lock but I think they should have addressed in the last remodel. Great local spot with snowmobiles or sailboat viewing depending on the season. read more

My wife and I were looking for a place to have a drink on a recent Friday afternoon. We took a couple seats at the bar and were warmly welcomed by Danny, the bartender. Having had a late lunch we didn't eat but chatted with several regulars at, and near, the bar who were eating. Everything look very good. I was in there this past weekend with two girlfriends of mine. We were in there for dinner. The waitress brought our check while the other two girls were still eating. Then once we asked her to split the check, she did and brought it back to us. After she brought it back she goes "oh, it's 50 cents per card to split" and she told us that after she ran the cards. Then she came back and picked up the checks while we were finishing up our drinks. After about 20 minutes a man who worked at this horrible establishment came over to our table and told us to leave. We were polite, paying customers, and sober. We were not doing anything wrong except having a good time. Needless to say, none of the three of us will be back. I have been going to Bar Harbor for over 30 yrs. It has been a staple of our trips to Harbor. The updated interior is very nice. However, the service and the food are mediocre. I have gone a few times over the last 6 mos and each time I had to bus my own table and wait a fair amount of time to get service. When the food arrived it was just ok and basically no service after food is delivered . Don't expect plates to be cleared right away or at all and it is tough to get a second round of drinks. I was really disappointed because I have loved going here for many years, but I think I am now done. read more

We have visited here many times over the years and always enjoyed stopping thus the two stars now instead of just one. But that changed a week ago we stopped on Saturday and were socked by the rude reception exhibited by the host at the moment. The food and beer helped to off set the "greeter". I was in Harbor Springs for the weekend and went into Bar Harbor twice. Friday evening, wife and I sat at the bar for burgers and cocktails. Dan the bartender was very friendly and attentive. Other than that, noting extra special. Place is known for the "best burgers" but it's pretty tough to screw up a burger. Returned Saturday evening with a party of 6 and the owner was most unwelcoming and even rude, simply because one couple had an infant in a baby carrier. (Note: baby was asleep, so no screaming to bother customers). We left and went across the street to The Pier and had a great meal in a friendly environment. While at The Pier, I was speaking to a friend who i had seen at Bar Harbor on Friday, they told me they had to stand in the rain waiting for a table because the same owner told them there was no room. This is completely wrong because the bar area I was eating in not only was not crowded but there were empty seats!!! Turns out this guy is born and bred in Harbor Springs and apparently doesn't like all the tourists in his town. He obviously doesn't need your business nor your money so I would accomodate him and stay clear. Burgers - fine. Ambiance - typical gin mill. Customer friendly - not even close. We are in town for just a few days and of the few places open, this was the worst. We were having a great experience until my husband had to use the restroom. The door was locked with an occupant for almost 20 minutes. He came back, distressed as he has irritable bowel syndrome and asked what to do. We suggested he use the woman's restroom since the restaurant was not crowded. He used it quickly and returned without anyone trying to use it. At that point, the owner/ gordens fisherman verbally abused and yelled at him for using the wrong facilty and. Promptly asked us to leave. It was embarrassing and rude and should not be tolerated. I want to add that it was a young child who was sick in the bathroom- his dad asked him to use the other bathroom as well so he wouldn't be embarrassed. i'll start off this review by saying, I usually NEVER leave reviews unless I feel extremely compelled to. I dined in at Bar Harbor yesterday around noon with a friend of mine and my brother who came in for about an hour. After waiting about 10 minutes for a server, although the restaurant was barely full, I am not going to make assumptions as to why she took so long. But, she comes over with an attitude, barely speaking to us, takes our drink orders and appetizer order and then looks at us and walks away without saying anything. Once again, although the wait was a bit long, this part wasn't the part that bothered me. After we received our drinks and appetizers, my little brother who had joined us moments before, and the original two of us, but in our food orders. After that, we had no contact with waitress for 45-50 minutes. No updates on the food, why it was taking so long, had to chaotically flag ANOTHER waitress down for drink refills. 45-50 minutes pass and she hasn't said a single word to us. My brother physically gets up and leaves to go home and just asks for his food to go at that point and I honestly wish I could've done the same. You could tell the waitress was ignoring our table. We watched all the tables around us get their food, mind you, when we first came in the restaurant. it was almost empty. Finally, after waiting near to an hour, since I couldn't get the attention of our waitress and was just ready to get up and leave, I once again flagged down the other waitress. She was the only good part about this dine in experience. We told her that the third person in our party left because of the wait and asked if we could just take our food togo. She is super sweet and understanding and goes to tell our waitress to pack up the food. Another 10 minutes pass before the food comes out, no explanation whatsoever she just quickly drops off the food without saying a word and runs away. After a few minutes i'm finally able to get her attention and I ask for the bill (a split bill) and to go boxes. Now, in my mind I am thinking, maybe due to the lack of communication and the wait, she will take something off. The running away makes it almost impossible to communicate with her. But nope, she drops it off, not split....and I am stunned. Over the course of literally five minutes as I am looking over this receipt, she comes and LEANS over the table to TWICE see if I have paid yet, when it is pretty clear I am holding the receipt. I am about to ask her if there's something on the receipt that can be taken off, maybe even just the drinks, due to the wait and also for her to split the checks like we had asked originally, but of course, she's gone before I can speak. For the third time, we are forced to flag down the other waitress who once again was so kind and understanding and said she'd pass it on to the other waitress. She comes over, goes "oh you wanted the check split" takes it and comes back, once again nothing taken off. At this point, I just wanted to get out of the restaurant and never come back. I pay, my friend pays and we get up and leave. IMO at the end of the day, I'm not sure why in the process of the food taking almost an hour, not once did she come and communicate with us whatsoever. I even handed the other waitress a tip because she was so kind and understand and I'm not sure we could've handled the situation without her. But to end this off, as any cheesy yelp review would say: If I could give this place zero stars, I would. read more

Been coming here for burgers for 20 years. Under new ownership now and cleaned up. Went there with wife and daughter two weeks ago, arrived 5:15, 6:00 still no food! Waitress who was nice very apologetic and said cooks were pissed at her and wouldn't cook her orders. Bar tender came over very apologetic but said the young cooks were jerks...we left at 6:15, still no food and waitress kept apologizing but said we won't get our food!!! Consistently good burgers and sandwiches. Spicy wings are delicious, as are perch and cod dinners. Great soups too. We have never had anything but great friendly service but for those complaining about curmudgeonly owner - he passed away last fall. Bar was closed over the winter and re-opened this spring. We were in there last week and it was hopping - lively crowd and great service. Family friendly thru the evening, we don't hesitate to bring the kids there unless we're grabbing a late night bite. If they would freshen up the interior and make it a little brighter rating would be five star. It is a little dark and drab. read more

Excellent staff, very friendly, prompt service. We like to come here in the winter when it's cold and blowy, have a burger and watch a game on the tv. Good food for a good value. We got to harbor springs after a long drive around 6, went for a walk, and stumbled into this place. I had the fried perch and loved it so I came back twice later in the week. If you're looking for something fancy this probably isn't the place to go but they have great food that's reasonably priced and a friendly helpful staff. We ordered fried perch at a couple other restaurants on our trip this was by far my favorite and a lot less costly. I think theirs is ~$13 when the other places were ~$25. If you want great Great Lakes fried perch in harbor springs this is the place to go. read more

We needed a dinner to go because our kids were sleeping and wanted takeout to eat while we watched the sun set. I walked in and got a takeout menu so that my husband could look too. We called to order 2 burgers, and some Mac and cheese for the kids. The person who answered told us to call back in 30 minutes. They were tooo busy to take an order. I had just walked in and there were empty tables...? I don't understand any business turning down orders no matter how 'busy' they thought they were.
