This establishment is a ways to get to but it's so worth it. The place is clean which is very important. The waitress was amazing. She had a great sense of humor and that is so needed with the group of people we were with. We (6) all ordered different dishes and everyone enjoyed the food immensely. The cost was reasonable. We'd heard the ads on the radio so drove down from the UP. The hour and half drive was well worth it. The prices seemed high until our order arrived. The portions were huge! The waitress convinced me to try the onion rings and I was not disappointed. I even snagged a piece of their homemade peanut butter pie to take home. It was incredible. This is a quintessential up north bar/restaurant. There's not a lot of options in this part of the world and the food was surprisingly good. I had the Jaw burger and the table ordered the moose jaw poutine. Burger was cooked well and their "special sauce" was a great compliment. The poutine rocked with smoked brisket covering fries and a beef gravy that wasn't overly salty. My biggest complaint was the service. We waited for over 2 hours for our food, the server didn't clear a single glass or appetizer plate during our meal. By the time we left the 8 of us had 31 glasses on our table. It was like eating at a garage sale table full of father's day coffee cups. For northern Michigan, an outdated bar filled with locals it was great food but make sure you have a ton of time to wait. read more

Our vacation rental in Northern Michigan was in my words, "in the middle of nowhere". Imagine our surprise finding a good restaurant about eight miles past the middle of nowhere! Moose Jaw Junction is located as the sign says in "Downtown Larks Lake". I'll admit I had low expectations when I arrived but the only negative I could come up with is there was no cell phone coverage! Moose Jaw is both a popular bar and restaurant that from my impression serves locals and vacationers alike. There is a great menu with daily specials. Ribs were the special so I had to try them. They were meaty and flavorful with a really nice sauce. While I prefer the type that don't "fall off the bone" these did and were still quite good. Others in our party had whitefish, perch, and chicken fajitas. All enjoyed their meals. In fact, we went back two more times-once for lunch and another night for dinner. Service was outstanding all times we visited Moose Jaw. My feeling has been when you're located in a mall, crowded area or "in the middle of nowhere" you can relax your standards because by necessity, people will still beat a path to your door. Absolutely not the case here. Ok this place has been on my list for a long time, because the Moose Jaw Club reminds me of the Big J Club at the now extinct Jullirettes of Harbor Springs. . I finally went and ordered it. Ok well first the bacon was over cooked, but that was not the main issue. This sandwich is screaming for thousands island sauce, nit the over powering spicy sauce they use. At least give us an option. Love this place and the staff, just fix the sandwich. read more

A friend of ours who visits Cross Village often recommended that we try this restraint while camping at Wilderness State Park. The drive was worth it even though Mackinac City eateries were half the distance. We really enjoyed the small town, down to earth, friendliness of this restaurant. We visited in a Tuesday early evening. There was a table of about 10 locals enjoying their weekly hangout. Anywhere the locals go on a regular basis is good by us. My husband and I both ordered the fried walleye basket which came with coleslaw and fries. The fish was fresh, flavorful, and tender, with just enough breading and spices to be appealing. I tend to feel disappointed with greasy and overly battered fish-and-chips. This entree was perfect. It is unusual for me not to think of taking a photo. We began digging in before I remembered, as the food looked wonderfully hot and fresh. We are cautious with COVID and appreciated the option for outside seating though we chose indoor as there were very few guests inside when we arrived. By 5:00, an hour later, the place was hopping with new arrivals and we were glad to be heading out. Staff wore masks and tables were spaced apart though the building feels like it could be stuffy and confining when filled, with lively laughter and conversation. Isn't this a weird time in our lives? Laughter and lively conversation usually adds to the ambience of a bar-and-grille. In the time of COVID, it's a deterrent. Staff were friendly and attentive. The food came promptly. The tab was very reasonable, allowing us to leave a nice tip. Wish we could give 4.5 stars as our overall experience. The Moose Jaw Junction is an awesome choice for the area. read more

Moose Jaw was an awesome place to go when Kevin owned it, but since then (even before covid), the prices have gone up so much it isn't worth going. A simple cheese and chicken quesadilla for $18 is insane. It was good but glad I wasn't buying that night. A guy is kicked out after he is sucker punch in the back of the head, his son refused service for take out, and now hearing about tires being slashed, no thank you. There are better places to go in the area. read more

If you are not a local, you'll definitely need your GPS for this gem out in the middle of nowhere! I had the Larks Lake burger and it was delicious, with grilled onions and a special sauce. Fries were flaky and hot. My husband enjoyed the perch sliders, served on pretzel roll buns. On the menu: Something for everyone! Pub style appetizers, salads, soups, sandwiches, pizzas, fajitas, dinners, beer and wine. Sadly, they were out of the peanut butter pie, which speaks to its popularity. Plenty of hunting photos and antlers on the walls. Fast friendly service, plenty of parking, and a playground for the kids. Our GPS took us back home to HS on a gravel road! We have been going to Moose Jaw for over 12 years . It was our go to place especially in the winter when everything is closed - during Covid we ordered take out to help them survive. Tonight we went to hoping get our Moose Jaw "fix" Our dog died on Tuesday and we went to the UP to heal our hearts- on our way back to Cross Village decided to stop in to get a beer and pizza - salad. What a mistake- The bartender was extremely unfriendly and condescending- she barely could take our order- She finally took our beer order - we ordered our pizza and salad- One of the servers dumped a beer on us spilling all over the counter and down the front of us. The bartender tossed a towel at us to clean up the counter- and some napkins - we wiped ourselves down and sat there with no acknowledgment from the bartender- nor did she bring another beer. We waited forever for our pizza. When it finally came out it had a burnt crust and no salad - we said to the bartender we haven't gotten our salad she said "Oh-- I didn't notice--- " She finally brought another beer - and then the salad. We got the bill and they didn't comp the beer nor even offered a discount for the trouble. Such a disappointment- we used to loved hanging at the bar on a cold winter day or go over for an alternative to Legs Inn. Not sure we will be back. read more

I was in town over the weekend and someone in the Cross Village area had highly recommended Moose jaw, so I stopped in Sunday to have a drink and a bite to eat. Although the food was excellent, my experience was not. As I sat at the bar waiting on my meal, I witnessed one server shouting at another server, she didn't stop, telling her "she wishes she would quit." That was just one thing I overheard. She had her so upset the poor girl started crying. I don't know where management was in that moment, but no came out to handle this as far as I seen in my time there. I watched the girl wipe her face, grab her drinks from the bar and go to her table and continue to work. The bartender and server were talking poorly about her as she was taking an order at the new table she had just gotten. The bartender was extremely rude. I will not recommend. read more

They ran out of food! We called ahead and they said seating us would not be a problem. Joke was on us. We sat at the bar for 90 minutes and then we heard the cook come out and tell the hostess to stop seating people because they ran out of food. They did not tell us. They offered no compensation to anyone and we asked. About 20 people, who waited longer than us, sitting at tables with no food is what I saw. 7/3/2023 Saturday night at 9, we went home to find what we could because by then everything was closed. Hostess and manager were both rude. Bartender was great. She was the only professional in the place. It was good before it was sold. I'll never go there again. read more

Anniversary dinner ruined! Service was horrible....the big guy in charge sat his buddies and left us sitting to wait no acknowledgement/ eye contact from him. Our server was totally distracted because her 6 day old baby was in there for dinner with dad, so our Service was beyond shifty. And the world famous fish fry was definitely lacking the greatness it once had. I am not sure who's the owner these days but they need to fix what ever has changed because it is not what it use to be. We won't be back and won't be recommending it to no one. read more

Well I came here at the right time! Fried fresh smelt, not on the menu; just currently 'in'! Generous serving over nice fries with a side of slaw. Off the main roads, but known to locals since 1946.. Friendly people and excellent waitress with speedy service at about 2:30 Tuesday afternoon. several local patrons were eating and enjoying 'comraderie'. About 20 minutes from Mackanaw and same(?) from Leggs, this would be my recommended stop. read more

On a whim, traveling from Mackinaw to Travers City, we stopped at Moose Jaw due to a "pure Michigan" sign. It is literally in the middle of nowhere. Boy were we surprised. The food was simply amazing. We arrived about lunch time and beat the rush, the single waitress had about 5 table plus us come in at the same time. She handled it perfectly and had the rest of the staff pitch in to help too. The Larks Lake burger is literally one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. I'm not sure why, it was good, it was hot and full of flavor. The rest of the food was out quick, it was hot and really tasty. I can't tell you how impressed I am with this gem of a dinning center. If it wasn't 350 miles from my home, I'd be a regular. The cost was on par and the service was good for how busy they got so quickly. Our server Asha did a really amazing job. For a restaurant/bar that is located in the middle of nowhere, I make sure to bring my family here when we are on vacation. We came in the middle of the week on a rainy day and had to wait around 30 minutes to be seated, again I want to state this place is in BFN. My kids and I both love this place from the wonderful staff to the fish and chips and burgers this place delivers. I hope anyone visiting North West Michigan makes a special trip here. read more

The all-you-can-eat Friday fish fry at Moose Jaw Junction is your typical cod fish, fries, and slaw but it is really homey. The restaurant is literally in the middle of northern Michigan with nothing else but deer and bear for miles. It a "locals" joint where everyone knows everyone. My daughter ordered the hamburger club and we had blackberry crisp with ice cream for dessert. It may be a drive but the "everyone's welcome" atmosphere is totally worth it! Don't mind the buck pole in the lawn. read more

This was honestly the best restaurant experience I've ever had, the staff is extremely attentive, from the server to the manager and busser. They were constantly removing plates from our table and checking on my group of 5 to make sure everything was good. Coming from Columbus, Ohio and being a server myself, you wouldn't even get this kind of service in the city. The food was good as well, I got the veggie sandwich and the others in my group got the daily special, I believe it was fried walleye. The only negative is that the pineapple juice in my drink tasted stale, like it had been open in the fridge for too long and gained a strange taste. But I would definitely return again if I happen to be in the area again! read more

You can tell this is where the locals hang out and after eating there we can tell why! The food was amazingly good! Some of our party got the fish tacos and found them very tasty. The burger was perfect and my husband and I both had fish. I had the cod and he had the walleye and it was some of the best we have ever had! They had a good selection of beers as well. Our waitress was quick and friendly. Definitely recommend this place! read more

Our shrimp tacos, which we shared, were enough for two or one very hungry person. They looked appealing, served in a casual "basket" plate. Though everything was fine and satisfying, we both felt there was a lack of seasoning that would have made our meal next-level. We are from Southern California and may have higher standards and more experience with Mexican cuisine than most. The level of flavoring and spice would surely appeal to the palate that does not crave much heat or traditional spices. We picked it up at the window in the long hallway on the side of the distillery and ate at a picnic table with our bottles of Mexican Coke and Lime Jarrito in the big hall. Although the price is a bit more than we usually spend for a top-notch quesadilla, we probably will return for fish (cod) taco $6.00. The only major drawback is the distance between the parking area and the restaurant and distillery. It's up a myriad of steep steps, although there is a drop-off area near the building for those who are physically impaired.
