Where do I begin?! I absolutely love this bar. I visited here from Atlanta. I'm big on experience. And this bar delivered it all. The ambiance and atmosphere stands out. It's like walking into a boozy fairytale lol. But it's not too much where you don't get the vibes and fun of the bar. The service was wonderful. We sat at the bar, our bartenders were knowledgeable and relatable. We laughed and made connections about the city. We didn't eat much but was served delicious fries as a snack. But I saw several patrons dining and looking like they were enjoying it. The drinks were crafted and cared for. It's an art in Chicago for great tasting cocktails and Bar La Rue is part of that. I will be back and definitely share this literal gem with anybody I know that's visiting Chicago. Also if you identify as a lady visit the ladies restroom, so cool and the Hollywood Glamour aesthetic is so fun. read more

Super disappointing, would not recommend. I never leave a review but this experience was not good. Management never came to do rounds otherwise this would have been done in person. Management seemed very into the influencers and less into the actual customers who were there for food and drinks. We ordered appetizers and held off on entrees so we could snack and have drinks. 35 minutes later I asked about our apps and waitress said she forgot to put in. At this time we went ahead and ordered a bottle of wine and our entrees as mistakes happen. Welllll, they come back to tell us the bottle is sold out....again fine. But then my burger comes out before fondue or the apps. The fondue will not stay lit and waiter brings over lighter fluid and spilt it all over the table, living the entire table on fire. The steak frites came out last for my friend.....no steak knife. Offered a free dessert to comp the issues and then was never brought that either. read more

No more drinks, by the end of the meal we were completely out of water. We had to go get someone else to get our water refilled. Bar La Rue opened earlier this year, and right off the bat this place is stunning and celebrates the fusion between French and American cuisine. We started with the chicken nugget caviar bites, and I personally think it was fun to try but I won't get it again because I think caviar would be better on the blini with traditonal accroutrements, less salt overall so the flavor of caviar can be more noticeable. The Little Gem Caesar was fantastic, great ratio of everything and outstanding crunch. The tuna tartare was also really yummy, and refreshing. If you're an escargot person, try these because these were so garlicky and I could've easily ate another round of them. For the mains, we had the steak frites with au poivre, the cut choice was the 7oz filet cooked perfectly to medium rare. The Royale burger with cheese was upgraded to provence style meaning it's served over grueyre cheese fondue, this is a decent burger but I would go with the steak frites here for sure. I ordered the secret menu item "The Frenchy" which is basically steak frites as a sandwich and this was my favorite thing I tried out of the mains. It was fun and still had all the goodies from a traditional steak frites dish. Their crispy tater tots were delicious, and I think they're better without the smoked ketchup. I could see the tots working well with a garlic aioli or spicy ketchup instead. For dessert, we got the Chocolate Hazelnut Mille-Feuille, I liked the creamy layers and crunch, it was basically a large format ferrero roche and the brown butter gelato had a grainey texture but tasted on point to description. read more

Brunch is such a lovely time at Bar La Rue! I recently tried this spot with three friends and we really enjoyed it. The patio and interior of the restaurant are both gorgeous. I had the truffle mushroom scramble which was really delicious with the gruyere fondue but not overly rich or heavy. Our favorite cocktail was the hugo spritz which was so refreshing. Service was very friendly as well. I'd definitely come back here again for brunch. read more

Came for dinner w my girlfriend; got seated at a table that was dead in the middle of traffic for the rest of the bar/restaurant. Our table got repeatedly bumped into several times. Asked to be moved to a table away from traffic (there were 4 other tables open) and was told they were "reserved". No one showed up in the time we were there. Service was slow; not very attentive. Saving grace was the food and drinks which were outstanding. The half roasted chicken was great and the steak frites (flat iron) was chefs kiss. You know after trying La Serre, I didn't really have high hopes for Bar La Rue but I always walk past and you really can't deny how cute the decor is. Had a girls dinner here on a Saturday night and it was fairly crowded. For the table, we shared the shrimp cocktail, tuna tartare, steamed mussels with frites, burger with fondue, and burger without fondue. The shrimp cocktail was really refreshing and a good starter! The tuna tartare fell a little short for me because it didn't have much flavor and the crisps that came with it tasted stale. The mussels were submerged in a creamy cajun-like soup. Definitely dip the fries in it - thank me later! Though the flavor was delicious, the mussels were too soft and soggy. Not sure if this is from being overcooked but the texture was just off. Now for the main part.. besides being such a cute restaurant, I was drawn in by the fondue burger. I mean, who wouldn't! I love a good burger and the more cheese the better. Unfortunately, this also fell short for all of us. The fondue was a bit sickening if I'm being honest and the burger itself was very mid. Not a lot of flavor or anything to make the flavor of the patty pop. Would have enjoyed a nice burger from small cheval for half the price. Took nearly 10 minutes for initial server contact. Apps came out and another nearly 10 minutes for her to appear so we could ask for napkins and silverware. She claimed they were shirt, but the staff was plentiful at the end of the bar chatting, only 3 table outside with patrons and 2 inside and she kept disappearing. It was very warm in the atrium outside area but the fans were not turned on. Food was just ok - nuggets were hard/overcooked and fries were fresh and hot but nothing special at all. What a fun addition to Fulton Market! Not surprising, but another slam dunk by Dineamic Group. The food and drink are as consistent here as they are at their other establishments but with a fun French twist. The mussels are to die for- I could drink the broth! Other standouts were the burger and the fondue, especially with the pickles and croutons. I don't need the shrimp with it, but maybe that's just me, everyone around me seemed to be enjoying and it's obviously a great photo op and fun to share for a group. I also love that they have fun N/A cocktails to choose from and that this is becoming more of a trend. I don't drink but it's still nice to have a thoughtful and tasty beverage to enjoy with my meal! Went to this place for a late Sunday dinner and the service was top tier. We made reservations last minute on open table and honestly the kitchen was closing but the care and consideration of our hunger was unmatched. We arrived and were seated and serviced by the staff who had such positive dispositions. The ambiance here is so beautiful, upbeat yet elegant and serene. On to the food....!!! We tried duck wings for the first time and the flavoring and tenderness was so good. A must try. We also had a burger, lobster roll, fries and drinks. In fairness, I came here with my four well-behaved kids on a random July day around noon. They are 3 teenagers and an 8 year old. I think this is more of an adult establishment that must do most of its business at night. I did ask the front hostess if Bar La Rue would be appropriate for children and I was told, "of course it is!" and was given a children's menu. The restaurant was less than half full. We were seated at a lovely booth and the atmosphere was beautiful. There were flowers hung above us and the bar had a beautiful selection of drinks with a large TV. There's also a nice outdoor patio area. We only waited a few minutes before a waitress asked what we wanted to order. The kids each ordered soft drinks, and they were given small glasses of them. When they were empty, the glass was taken away by a waiter, no asking if they wanted a refill. They were just removed from the table. My daughter and I got coffee and nobody ever circled around to see if we wanted more. When we finally asked for a coffee refill, you would have thought that it was the end of the world. The wait staff seemed very irritated with us and he had to go to the back to the kitchen to bring us the coffee. I take my coffee black, but my daughter asked for milk and sugar; we were only brought milk. No sugar. My daughter ordered a burger with fries; the burger came without fries. Just a burger on a plate. We asked to leave the garlic aïoli sauce off, and it was slathered in garlic aïoli sauce. We asked the hostess if we would be getting the fries eventually and she said they forgot and she would get on it right away. 20 minutes later still no fries. She returned to check on us and we advised her they still had not brought the fries. Our waitress was very nice and apologetic and she returned once again and offered to bring us dessert as a peace offering. This was a nice gesture. She put half a dozen dessert spoons and napkins on the table and told us that some lovely desserts would be arriving shortly. We patiently waited another 20 minutes and the fries eventually came out, but the desserts never did. We left irritated. Would never recommend due to abysmal service alone. My girlfriend and I came in for a nightcap after dinner and was welcomed by a friendly hostess and sat in a booth in a quick manner. It was a Monday night, so was not super busy, but the vibe was on point with music (that wasn't too loud) and good service. Our bartender, Austin, made us some great cocktails to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday, and treated us as we were longtime friends!
