Got charged $30ish $40 dollars without tip inside and got the same thing in the outside bar and had a $79 charge. Tried to dispute it but the bar lied to the bank, based on my credit card agent. There was basically no service at the tables when we went (8:30ish on a Saturday). You order everything including food from the bartenders. Around 10 they start unceremoniously taking your chairs and food/plates away to open the space into more of a club environment. And really put the pressure on to get you out of the table space. Disappointing Experience Despite the Ambience Unfortunately, our experience here fell short across the board. From the moment we walked in, the server seemed irritated and unwelcoming -even with simple requests like asking for napkins or our desert order. We had to ask for everything. Perhaps the server was having a rough day, but it definitely affected the overall vibe and we were made to feel like an inconvenience. We came primarily for dessert and drinks, my aunt was visiting from Cali Colombia, we just wanted to get out and show her around. We ordered all three desserts on the menu to share among three people, and the results were disappointing. The cookie was rock-hard in the center -- like a hockey puck but taste was fine so it was edible. The "Strawberry Shortcake" was essentially a stale Hawaiian roll topped with strawberry jam, very dry, shockingly priced at $16 we couldn't eat it but paid regardless. The only redeeming item was the ice cream, which is hard to mess up. We also ordered 2 lattes (not listed on the menu, but they accommodated which was nice) and while they were passable, they didn't make up for the rest of the experience. The ambience itself is the one highlight, but unfortunately, good atmosphere alone doesn't make for a worthwhile visit. Check was only $50 plus 20% tip which is decent, however I would have expected to have better tasting desert. I would have preferred to pay more to have a higher quality experience. I was staying at the Thompson Hotel and decided to go up to Bar Lis on a Friday night, after a wedding that I had attended. My party of 4, including myself, sat down at a table near the entrance to the dance floor. At the time there we sat, there were a handful of open tables because it wasn't terrible late. After about 30-45 minutes, we were asked to move, because someone has purchased the table we were sitting at. There was no signage that said that tables could be bought, nothing that showed as reserved. Nothing. How they decided which table was beyond me too. It was incredibly frustrating to be a guest of the hotel and to be told to move. When we moved there were no open tables, as they were taken by people who were there only for the night club. Absolutely terrible customer service. Beware if you are staying at the hotel. It makes no difference. read more

We ordered fries, the mezze, and the charcuterie board. The fries looked as if we got the tail end of the fry batch. Short mediocre and not warm but not cold either? We asked for ranch and two servers went back and forth (bless them) trying to secure some ranch. One said they didn't have any and another came back and said they were able to find some. The ranch was good, I will admit. It had fill in it. I'm a fan, but as for the fries, we weren't able to finish them. The mezze was a disaster. I will admit, the pita was good, but you get a small amount of pita bread for the amount of hummus and babaganush. Now this would be more of a problem if the dips were actually good. The babaganush was alright. Nothing spectacular but definitely edible. The split pea hummus? Atrocious. Lacked flavor. I'm not sure what they were going for but bringing a bowl of unseasoned peas to the table would've had the same effect. I really tried to like it. I picked at it as best I could. It just wasn't enjoyable. And finally, the charcuterie board. It's pretty difficult to ruin a charcuterie board as the whole point is to sample a bit of everything. There were 2 meats, 3 cheeses, honey, and a mustard on the board with 2 varieties of crackers. The items didn't exactly pair well together per their placement on the board, the placement also felt aesthetic, but it was pretty easy to me maneuver past that once I was able to get the better pairings down. I will say, the honey was absolutely delicious and I could drink that thing if it were societally acceptable. One last note, the bathroom: you have to go toward the hotel to get to the bathroom. It's the SECOND door in the right. The first door is some service elevator closet area thing. I definitely went a couple steps down that hallway thinking that's where the bathroom was as my only instructions were "through that door and to the right". After realizing the bathroom is probably not down some secluded hallway, I went back out to see some steps leading up to a gender neutral bathroom. read more

One of the most beautiful rooftop lounges in Hollywood! Cliff and Vlad are awesome bartenders and I love how it's actually quite toasty from all the heaters they have so no worries about rooftop cold! The walk to the bathroom through the rooftop pool is soo lovely The reason why 4 stars and not 5 though is because even they do have a dinner and dessert menu it is very small and quite pricey, even though I didn't try the food I have heard through friends it is very good If only they had some sort of happy hour that could make up for the prices, but beers starting at $8 isn't the worst but it does seem like there are some extra fees they add because bill was much more than expected for only 3 beers This place is quite tiny though so if not sitting at the bar or a party more than 2 I definitely suggest making reservations All in all this is a beautiful rooftop lounge that is great for special occasions and dates and girls night outs! read more

I was just there on 3/9/22 to celebrate my birthday with friends, after dinner nearby. There was a massive line outside, but we quickly learned that wasn't the line we needed to wait in for entry. Entry was smooth (and free). Once we got upstairs, the ambiance was so pretty! There were 2 rooms, the main room with a fountain and the bar. The second room had a disco ball and a lot more open space. (Bathrooms are outside through the disco ball room). I can't speak too much to the service since my friends were buying the bday drinks, but I can say everyone was pleased with their chosen drinks. No one ordered food. Big downside (to almost anywhere in Hollywood) is parking. Such a cool bar on Thursday's, not sure why it's so weird on weekends. Apparently there was a lawsuit because someone threw a drink off the patio but they don't let you take drinks outside anymore. I tried to leave my drink on the ledge to go to the bathroom, apparently it got "stolen" and then the security recommended I went to the bar to get a replacement and I had to basically beg for another drink. Brought some friends here from Costa Rica because they wanted to hear some jazz. One of the only spots I knew about was Bar Lis because we had an amazing holiday party here for work & that's when I found out about their Tuesday Jazz Nights. The Bar Manager remembered me at sat us at the best table in the house. So impressive to my guests, thank you for that! We basically sat right next to the pianist and you can see how close we were in one of the photos that I have uploaded. They were all great and the did a bunch of famous cover songs which I loved! They don't have much on the menu but that makes it easy to try a bit of everything. We ordered the salmon dip, shishito peppers, French fries, and the marinated olives. Despite my guests just having dinner prior to the show, we still finished everything! We didn't try any of the cocktails unfortunately because we bought a few bottles of wine instead of the cab. I kept asking if they wanted to try a different kind, but they loved to the cab so we stuck to it all night! It did get really packed so I highly, highly suggest getting a table there. You have to spend a minimum amount, but we spent almost double that minimum, so don't worry about that when booking! I know I'll be back with my husband! read more

We headed to Bar Lis with no reservations on a Tuesday night, Feb 13. Got there around 7pm knowing there was some kind of mardi gras concert that night (it was Matthew Grant) but not having actually explored the interwebs ahead of time, we didn't manage the process correctly. Had we asked the hostess when we arrived how it worked for the concert portion, we likely could have made that work....there's a table minimum...it was really high...but your dinner counts towards it so we could have met it, no problem. Sadly we asked as were finishing dinner, so would have had to start anew with the minimum. But they were super sweet and walked us in to show us where they had a table (shared...think Yoshi's in Oakland...) and we decided to pass because we can't drink that much to meet the minimum lol. Anyway, that snafu (our fault) explained...the service was very good all night. We went into the regular courtyard portion of the restaurant and had a nice seat...albeit not near the glass where the views are better (again...no reservations so that's on us). I didn't see a drink concoction speaking to me on the menu, so I asked our server to have the bartender make a rum drink that I had googled up - an Old Cuban. He did well. What I really want to call out here is my meal - the sea trout with roasted farro, butternut squash, arugula, and romesco. It was the best meal I had while in LA. And that includes my Valentine's Day dinner at Redbird. And frankly, I can't think of a better dish I've had anywhere else in quite some time. I was super surprised because we knew literally nothing about this restaurant. It was close to our hotel, had a rooftop bar, and that was enough to give it a go. Hubby liked his as well...I think it was a meaty meat meat meat cuz that's what he always gets...but I'm too focused on mine to care. The atmosphere was fun because they were amping up for the mardi gras concert so people came in wearing very stylish, LA garb and mardi gras girls in states of undress came to hand out flyers or something and they were fun to watch too. My friend and I were visiting from SF so we decided to have a fun night out on a Tuesday and thought this place would be fun and cute. We went up and went to the bar (mind you, no one had asked for our IDs at all since the moment we walked in) and got a drink and an appetizer. We enjoyed cocktails as we watched our surroundings fill up with beautiful people . some in costumes, and some just wanting to dance and have a good time... Vincent, the infamous DJ around town, kept us on the dance floor for at least three hours, until these four pretty little princesses had to say night night.... They do have bottle service at most of the tables. But they were so gracious to let us sit at the table past 11, after that it was dance dance dance. They have a very large outdoor area with tables and chairs and a gorgeous view of Hollywood. They only have a few food items on the menu but I was able to order the fries and the pita with eggplant dip (vegan). The food was good but there is room for improvement with the service. Our waiter kept telling us we were on a time limit and that we'd have to move once the restaurant began to turn into a club. There were maybe a total of 10 people inside and all the tables and seating were empty so we couldn't understand why they were rushing us out. The worst! Not the food or the views. The service. Absolutely the worst service ever. As a globalist, I often stay at Hyatt properties and Thompson is pretty great with service. But this restaurant inside Thompson Hollywood maybe the worst of them all. Absolutely the worst. While staying, came for breakfast. Roof top, good views. Already very hot before 10 am. It was still fine. Once we got seated, it all went downhill. All because of that one server. Not sure if she was just having a bad morning! Or a bad 9 am. I don't toast, but this horrible waitress lied to my face and told me that they ran out of croissant at 10 am. And it was a bad lie... watched croissants came out left and right for the next 2 hours!! Painfully! People came after: ordered croissants.. watched them all get it before my order came. Literally the worst server in history. She didn't bring water or menu for half hour. Then she forgot our coffee. But she did make a fake compliment at my dress as I walked out! I usually don't write these as I don't believe some yelp reviews are valid/necessary. I attended their New Year's event a couple days ago. This place was filled with under age kids. A few people came up to me and mentioned they were still in high school. I understand there will always be a few of these in clubs. The ratio of underage kids was at least 50%. These children were acting their age and trying to start fights for no reason. I'll be contacting the liquor commission with a formal complaint. This establishment's owner/leadership should take a look at the video footage and immediately fire the bouncers who let these CHILDREN into a club that people paid $100+ plus to get into. I will never go back to Bar Lis and will continue to share this story. read more
