FOOD POISONING / STAY AWAY --- UPDATE (2026): Almost ten years later, I still stand by what happened here. After my original review and after providing my contact information to the email address given by Bar Louie's representative, I never received a single call or email. Not once. What bothered me then--and still bothers me now--is not just getting sick, but the gap between what was said publicly and what was done privately. Posting "we hold ourselves to the highest standards" and "we are incredibly concerned" looks good online, but it means nothing if there is zero follow-up with the guest who reported a serious health issue. Mistakes can happen in any restaurant. What defines a business is how they respond when something goes wrong. In this case, the response was purely performative. I still tell friends about this experience, as my very first food poisoning in my life (and in United States as it was not just the only one, unfortunately), not out of spite, but as a cautionary story: pay attention not only to what businesses say publicly, but what they actually do when there's a real issue. read more

We didn't realize this location was inside the hotel when booking, so we were pretty surprised how empty it was on a Friday night but that meant our orders came out quickly! We enjoyed our drinks and food before our next stop, our server, Anne was nice and took great care of us. It's actually pretty big inside but the bathrooms are in the hotel lobby not the restaurant - the power also flickered on and off a few times, it was an experience in its self to say the least! read more

She did not say she could modify, when asked for manager not avialable. when I gave her my credit card, she wanted to add additional tip. on top of it she put tip on whole amount and not discounted amount, was happy hour. would not go back and have already told 5 people who agree with me read more

Bar Louie - O'Hare is a fun bar to go have some food and drinks at. This bar is inside the Holiday Inn hotel. I went on a Thursday night - it was very quiet inside and not too crowded it was very enjoyable. They have a wide selection of beers on tap so you'll surely find something for everyone. I tried the Buffalo boneless wings, spinach artichoke dip and beef sliders. The boneless wings were not very good - very tiny portion and hard as a rock. The beef sliders are very good, and the artichoke dip was also good. The drink prices are a bit expensive so just keep that in mind. Overall, a nice bar to come check out. read more

Had a reservation at 4pm, walked in on-time only the bartender working. We grabbed a booth and waited, the manager of the hotel takes our drink order and food order. Very easygoing person. He brings us our food it's warm at the best , the taste is off but we stay and eat. The manager disappears and a young woman shows up and asks if there is anything that we need? The whole experience was bad, no one in the place and no one to wait on your table. Cost was not cheap ,not worth what we were served. Never return or try Bar Louie again. read more

The service was awful. Both servers ignored me for 10 minutes maybe longer, then acted as if me ordering was a problem. Bland rude tone, not friendly at all. Never came back to check on me, got food and still never came back, had to wave someone down for something to drink, then walked past me multiple times purposely not looking at me (at the bar). Ate 90% of my food before I got a drink and ketchup. Literally worst service I've received in years. By both women bartenders. Feb 16 5pm. Went here on tue for advertised half off burgers. Happy hour was going on so some apps were half off and I think Flatbread pizzas were too. Burgers were pretty gd for $8, I'd have been disappointed if I paid $15. Apps were meh. Waitress seemed bit disappointed we weren't drinking and it showed as she never asked if we wanted any more tea or soda. 18% automatic tip was added to the bill on everything at full price and we were only party of 3 so... All I can say is burgers are worth $8 and if you want gd service maybe sit at the bar. read more

I was staying at the hotel and looked at the menu. I thought I would order something to take back to my room. So I ordered the fried pickles. They look amazing on the menu photo but they don't look at all like the ones pictured. They were nothing special. Regular breaded pickle slices. I also ordered a Guinness. It tasted watered down. After driving by again and again, I finally stopped in for the $5 craft burger deal. Sitting at the bar is a no brainer here. And a very nice and polite server Jessica took my order and told me of the most outrageous things she has experienced while working here. And FYI she wants to go check out Jamaica. So the burgers are worth It and the beers on tap are outstanding. Maplewood, 3 Floyd's, half acre, and the usual favorites too..pbr, coors, bud, and even Truly on tap! Whoa. I'll be back again, as I'm not staying at the hotel, and sit at the bar again and have a beer! My friend and I stopped after work for a few drinks and appetizers. We sat at the bar. The drinks and appetizers were very good!! We had Grand Lemon Drop and Chicago Ave martinis and the Thai crispy calamari and Truffle Mushroom & Asparagus flatbread (All fabulous!) Everything was wonderful until I got home and checked my receipt. An 18% gratuity was automatically added to our 2 person bar tab. I did not notice and had tipped on top of that. My fault, but who adds an 18% automatic gratuity to a 2 person bar tab?!?! Shady and unethical thing to do. We enjoyed the food and drinks, but are dissapointed this had happened. Not sure if we will return, but if we do, I'll be very cognizant of this "gratuity" practice of Bar Louie. read more

Horrible experience!!! On Tuesday, Sept.30th, my friend and I ate at Bar Louie's. We were there about 2:15, waited at the hostess station for quite awhile. We both saw a woman peak around the pole at the bar but then never came out. So we went to the bar and told her we have been waiting for someone to seat us. First thing she said was "oh well I am all alone here and proceeded to talk with a couple seated on the other side of the bar. So we had to ask her again if she was going to seat us! So after huffing and looking like we were bothering her she grabbed 2 menus. We asked to sit outside. It took her a long time to ask for our order. She then brought out our drinks. After awhile she brought our food and practically threw the plates on the table ( not asking if we wanted anything else or saying enjoy) and hurried off. She never came out to see how we were. I needed to go in and ask for a refill of my drink. Again looking perturbed she said ok. There was just the couple at the bar!!! And then 2 minutes later she came out and said "do you want boxes?" We were still eating and I had just asked for a refill. She acted as though she couldn't wait for us to leave! About 10 min. later, she brought the check. She came out again quickly and I said I am not ready yet. So I looked at the check and we could not believe that she had the audacity to add an 18% tip!!! we crossed out the tip and left enough cash to pay for the bill and walked out! Never again!! It's a shame because they do have good food!! We never knew her name but she was the only one , primarily at the bar. read more

I would like to leave a proper review of this bar & restaurant, but I can't. The closing hours are listed as midnight Sundays thru Thursdays and 1am Fridays & Saturdays. I was more than a little peeved to find the place locked up tight at 11:45pm when I got back to the hotel from a long day of work on a Saturday. Your hours are your hours, guys! Came in during a Wednesday happy hour. Some food (not listed on the menu) is half priced during that time. Ask the server for details. Very quiet time (6:30) and was able to get quick service. The food was just okay. The drinks were great! If in town for work, like myself, and looking for something east, I encourage you to drop in for a quick meal! read more

Absolutely disgusting place. The draft beer tastes moldy and stale like they haven't cleaned in years. I've seen cockroaches crawling on the bar. This review should had been done a very long time ago. I reserved a night for a birthday party, with entertainment. The staff in charge from day 1 was a professional at all times. We worked together and up til the date of the party everything went v quite well. On the day of the party as vendors were prepping my area and the dj was setting up, my sisters and children were prepping for party. Unfortunately my partner passed that afternoon and was completely heart broken. My heart was just ripped off me, I turned to my family and guest that had arrived of the horrific news. The staff was aware immediately and handled and made it very pleasant and we made it a memorial event that went quite smoothly. I want to thank all the staff for there accommodations with us. So my friend and I were having lunch before she caught her flight. We ordered the pork wings- Carribean honey, spinach and artichoke dip, the bourbon barbeque and the hot chicken sandwich. All and all, the pork wings were the winner. The hot chicken sandwich was dry. The jalapeno honey was great. My spinach and artichoke dip had a white hair in it so that had me . My friend liked her burger. I don't frequent this area. I do however frequent the Bar Louie on Halsted in the city. This experience won't deter me from that Bar Louie but I won't order any of the above items again. read more

For a hotel restaurant, this is definitely fantastic! The food here is soooo good and they have happy hour during the week till 7pm! The drinks here are just OK, nothing fancy and they don't have top shelf stuff but pretty decent for a hotel restaurant. You really can't ask for much more. I would definitely recommend dining here. I've been here more than 5 times and have not yet been disappointed by the food. The bathrooms are outside of the restaurant down the hallway to the left. read more

I really like this spot. I'm staying at the Holiday Inn and this restaurant is attached to the hotel. It kind of put you in the mindset of a Chilli's or Bennigan's. I went twice. The first time I ordered the BLTT (bacon lettuce tomato turkey). OMG. That was so good. The next night I had a burger. I didn't think it was all that great. But maybe it was just that particular burger that wasn't that good. The service here was great , and both times the waitresses were so friendly. I notice that they are really crowded for happy hour. M-F for happy hour they have half off appetizers. And each day there are different drink specials. It's really a cool spot to hang alone or with friends. read more

Still just as bad as the first time i came. I figured it would of been better with the new year however no, it's bad. Asked the server how much a well drink was, was told $10. Got a "seasonal" beer which the server told me was oktoberfest in january? The server did a great job telling me that it wasn't after he came with a beer saying it was the "sam adams cold snap" and asked me if I wanted that still. I wanted the oktoberfest. 18% automatic gratuity is absolutely ridiculous. I have no issue leaving a great tip if I get great service. However, that was not the case. We placed our order, drinks took quite a while to come out, food was on the cold side when it was brought to the table. It was not a busy night. Our server did not check on us once after the food was brought out and now I know why, because she already knew she was getting a tip. Had I known about the automatic tip we would have left the hotel and eaten somewhere else. The manager came over and all he said was, sorry I'll talk to her. It was Robin's second night here from a different location with an all new staff and she was still HIGHLY attentive while adjusting to a new bar and learning the layout of the place. This is a great local bar. Folks from my office come here for lunch. Pretty good food and great service. I've only been here for lunch once. I usually come out for drinks, appetizers and dinner. One of the better beer menus in the area. They regularly rotate what they serve. This time out we tried the several seasonal they had. Our favorite was the Brothers. They have a happy hour special with cheaper drinks and appetizers. The spicy boneless wings are great. The flatbreads are all very good. My favorite is the calamari. This is a great place and the service is always exceptional. When the weather is nice, they have outdoor seating. read more

The food was terrible. It was only the two of us. It's been years since I've visited a Bar Louie restaurant. I ordered the artichoke spinach dip out of nostalgia. It was terrible. The chips lacked salt and the dip was mushy and tasteless. I also ordered the Hot Honey Crispy Chicken sandwich with fries. The chicken sandwich was thin, a tough chew, hard, and dry. My son ordered the Patty melt. It was greasy and lacked seasoning. To top things off they surprised us by forcing an 18% gratuity. I could only laugh when I inquired about it and the server pointed tiny print at the bottom of the menu that informed customers that their food will be 18% more due to forced gratuity. I should have followed my instincts and turned around upon my arrival to the restaurant. It was late afternoon and no one greeted us at the door. Instead someone yelled out "sit wherever you want". We weren't even met with a sign that said welcome. The sign said something about having the right to deny service to whoever they choose.... LOL... needless to say I am never coming back and would warn anyone else who is looking for an enjoyable meal to look elsewhere!!!! By the way the service was subpar but I normally tip because I understand waiters work hard and receive little pay. I HATE being forced to tip. I say again the service was subpar and it was a lack luster environment... just meh :| I wish I had photos of our food but what can I say... it didn't inspire us to snap a photo. read more
