I walked into Bar Louie because I was enchanted by the front porch of the hotel. I stopped in for a drink because I was staying at the dude ranch In Milford and was so distraught by the poor service and bad condition of the place. Bar Louie was the best part of my trip, the bartender Melinda was awesome! She made me feel so welcome even though I wasn't a guest of the hotel, her service was exceptional. I went back the next night for dinner at the bar and had a really delicious dinner and of course my new favorite bartender Melinda was as gracious and perfect as the night before. I want to say thank you to the staff at the hotel who took the time out to make sure my night went perfectly. I look forward to staying there next time I come up! read more

This place has a sleek lounge feel (located at the basement level), but balances it nicely with some horse paintings, an exposed brick wall, and some Sinatra. I felt quite comfortable here on two different occasions while in Milford. We did not have a reservation either night, and the hostess sat us immediately. Service was fast and friendly. I highly recommend the Lamb Ragu entree (a bit like a fancy version of Hamburger Helper, and that is a good thing!). The carrot soup is also very good. The down side is that prices are quite high, probably 25% too high. As per the menu itself, there weren't a whole lot of dishes that jumped out at me, but that being said, they have great cappuccino and home baked cookies. My boyfriend and I came here for dinner for Valentine's Day. What an amazing experience!!! John, the manager, took very good care of us and was attentive the moment we walked in. There was a duo playing guitar and piano there that set an awesome Ambiance. We started our meal with two salads- crispy grilled kale salad and the harvest salad. The crispy grilled kale salad is so unique and the harvest salad dressing was mouth watering. We then had the steak frites as well as the salmon with potato perrichet. Literally the only place in Milford that I have lunch in. I love the ambience, the food is always delicious, and the service is always inviting. There French onion soup is my favorite! I had the distinct misfortune of dining at Bar Louis over the past weekend. One of my pet peeves is that if you are going to charge NYC prices in a dead end town like Milford, PA then you need to offer NYC quality food and service. Sadly, this wannabe establishment, failed miserably. In all honesty, the setting is decent enough and a bit unexpected for Milford. However, anything positive to report about this venue stops here. In summary: 1. Drinks are very weak (actually watched the bartender mix them....used about 1 normal shot for 2 drinks...seriously??). Of course, at $10+ per drink, what would one expect (insert sarcasm). I do not have an issue with paying for drinks, but again, I am taking location into consideration here and at the very least, I would appreciate some alcohol in my drink. 2. The bus service was totally erradict. Dirty dishes were not removed between courses, water was not refilled unless requested, bread did not appear on the table until it was pointed out that it was not served, silverware was not replaced after it had been removed between courses, etc. 3. The service was absolutely wretched. Our server was totally distracted throughout the evening. One quote that sums it all up, "Oh....I didn't even notice that you had finished your appetizers!" 4. The timing was ridiculous. It took 60 minutes after completing the appetizer to receive the entree. Finally, after multiple complaints to the server and the manager, only one out of two entrees were served. It took another 10 minutes to get the second entree, and by then, the first entree was cold. 5. The food was simply....meh. It was not bad, just not memorable. My guest and I shared the chicken liver appetizer, and we had the pork entree and the veal sweetbreads. All were done decently, but the nightmare of the overall experience could not make up for semi-decent food. We were ultimately comped two drinks, which was nice, but really didn't make up for the fact that we had a totally unfortunate dining experience. We actually had dinner reservations for the following evening at the more upscale Delmonicos (both restaurants are located at the Hotel Fauchere), which we promptly canceled. If the bar restaurant couldn't pull it together, I was not going to risk dining at the more expensive venue on the same property, managed by the same people. As a funny aside, my guest and I were out that same evening having drinks and ran into a party of four that had also dined at Bar Louis. They approached us and asked us what our problem was with our meal as they had observed some of the issues that we had endured. After we shared our little saga, they told us that they had their own problems that evening. The appetizer that they had ordered was apparently no longer offered due to a last minute menu change. The server on her own initiative replaced their order with another option without telling them. Is that crazy? The replacement was a scallop appetizer that was served totally overcooked. They were pretty upset about the situation, but they were locals and didn't want to make a big deal about it. Supposedly, the restaurant has a reputation among locals for being hit and miss....more miss than hit!. So...if any of you are traveling to the Milford area over the next several months, you may want to take this place off or your list of dining options. You've been warned! read more

Strange, rude service and over priced "gourmet" I got the impression that I was being had.

I've come here for drinks and appetizers before, and have always been reasonably happy, but my most recent experience was sad and disappointing. I brought my sister and niece here for dinner last night, and while the oysters and deviled eggs were wonderful as always, the rest was not. My sister ordered a burger medium, when it came out it looked beautiful! Sadly, the inside was completely uncooked, red and cold. I ordered the chicken breast, which was quite good, but came with nothing but some arugula on top. No side, no bread or rolls, nothing. Which would be ok if not for the pretty high price. French onion soup used to be great there, but was bland with a small bit of bread and wayyy too much cheese. Now I love cheese, but there shouldn't be more cheese than soup! The sushi pizza used to be good, but had too much seasoned mayo that turned it all to mush. Our waitress was lovely at first, then never came near us once the food was served, never asked if we wanted another drink, which we all did. Never came and asked if everything was ok, so we could have had the burger cooked a bit more. We sat there waiting quite a while just hoping for her to notice we were finished eating, we were still going to have another cocktail since we were celebrating a birthday. We waited and waited, finally gave up on having another drink as it was getting ridiculous at that point! We had each only had one, so it's not like we were rowdy drunk people! Had to flag her down to get the very hefty check. If it had been busy I could understand, but there were only 2 other tables with two people each! Doubt very much I will be returning or recommending anymore. read more

Two Visits - Bad to Worse This summer my wife and I had a very disappointing lunch experience here. Realizing that all establishments can have a bad day, I refrained from posting a negative review. We went back for dinner and went from disappointing to horrendous. Place was not crowded, well staffed, so there was no excuse for what followed. The space is marvelous, a chic feel. Beer list is excellent. I misspoke when I ordered my beer, giving the wrong brewer for the beer I named . When the waitress brought it she realized that she hadn't caught that and offered to take back the beer. It was my mistake that caused the confusion so I said I would keep it. (point is - I'm not overly picky and am flexible.) I realized waitress had never asked me whether I wanted the salad or french fry option, but again, didn't complain We both had Onion Soup - excellent. I was prepared for a good experience. My "Medium" Steak Frites comes out grey all through (they serve it thickly sliced). Cut it open - well done throughout. I quietly called waitress and pointed out that this was way overcooked. (Medium is generally warm pink center - there was NO pink in this grey slab). My steak comes out - slices turned up so you can see a really, really rare / raw steak. (Steak tartare came to mind). Both my wife and I felt the way it was presented that this was a conscious "in your face" by the chef. Also felt that the waitress should have checked it. Again called the waitress over and politely showed it to her and asked if she could please have it "fired again". (In retrospect , I'm now being WAY too kind and patient.) Third try - bus person brings steak out - 1/3 is still inedible, ketchup for fries not replaced, fries now well done. Waitress walks by doesn't check. Despite three attempts to serve steak correctly, neither success nor an offer to buy a round of drinks or dessert - they didn't care. On both visits, despite it not being busy noticed that they didn't get who ordered what right, and didn't check. My wife had ordered a Belgian beer, had discussed it with waitress (she had two tables of two at the time), yet it was served to me. Prior visit I had Fish and Chips, menu said 'with Malt Vinegar", when I finally got waiter's attention and asked for it - I was told "I'll see if we have any", was forgotten, had to hunt down waiter again and finally - who really seemed bothered by my audacity. He sent bus person, never came back to check on us. Having a wonderfully designed space, a creative menu and pricey food does make you good if the food isn't prepared correctly and if the service is poor. read more

I have visited this elegant yet charming restaurant on multiple occasions when I was in Milford, and have never experienced anything but excellent food, service, and atmosphere. The food is obviously prepared by passionate chefs who consider their cooking their art form. Once I tried their "sushi pizza", I fell immediately in love and am overcome with a momentary depression anytime I remember it and realize I am in Los Angeles and I can't have any. It is amazing. Same goes for the margarita with the jalapeño infused tequila and fresh mango margarita mix. So good!!! The service by the waitstaff and managers have always been superb, in my experience - welcoming, professional, and caring. They do everything they can to ensure you're having a great time. The bar downstairs is at the same time cozy and sophisticated, with seating on the porch upstairs for when the weather is nice and you'd like some fresh air. The Delmonico room is for a true dining experience with dinner courses created by world class chefs and servers who are the cream of the crop. I haven't yet stayed upstairs in the hotel, but if it is anything like the restaurants below, I'm sure it is a great experience. The members of the hotel staff that I've met while there clearly hold themselves to a very high standard and genuinely seem to care that their guests are enjoying their stay and have every possible accommodation. The rooms are beautiful as are the common areas, and there is a well kept garden outside. If you are in Milford, I definitely recommend a visit! read more

We decided to pay a visit to Bar Louis as a family for Labor Day. In the past we have experienced fantastic drinks and great apps. Our experience was lack luster to say the least. Service started out great as the Maitre'd engaged us about the recent beer collaboration with local brewery and discussed the recent menu changes. We ordered French onion soups, heirloom tomato salad, and Boston Bib Lettuce Salad... the soup was scorched on top so the burnt flavor resonated in every bite and the salads were very plain. As for the entrees, we ordered lamb ragu, cauliflower steak, duck , and skate. Not only did half the entrees come out 30 min after the lamb ragu was delivered to the table, the flavoring was non existent. I am so disappointed in the state of Bar Louis, as someone who seeks out solid culinary experiences, this was a miserable failure. For the slow delivery of our entrees they brought out Trout Dip, very random and not hospitable ... if anything ask us how we can make this experience better, perhaps a round of drinks. Waitress was not apologetic so this threw us off ...Needless to say I hope this catches the attention of management and they value patrons opinions because we as patrons value great experiences and even better food.... read more

What a lovely night to eat on a porch and enjoy sunset. Our waiter was very nice. He was not trained however. Here are the lapses and suggestions: 1. Once night fell we needed light. Even a few candles on the table would have made a difference. 2. Long time to get drink order placed. They were out of many wines and beers on the menu. When the drinks came, they were wrong. And the wines, in small carafes, we're brought but no glasses. They took 5 to 10 minutes to get. 3. We had to ask for bread. Then later we had to ask for more butter. It came at the end of the meal. We asked for additional bread. It came with dessert! 4. One of our guests ordered liver. It came cold. He sent it back. They redid it. The steak was good. The crab was good. The crepes had great filling, poor crepes though. 5. Had to ask for dessert menu. Desserts were good. 6. Had to flag down another waitstaff to pay as our waiter was AWOL for most of the meal. The place was not crowded. Lots of empty tables. Our waiter was so nice but so green. One member of our party was obnoxious to him - obnoxious all day to everyone, including us - because he had not pointed put the many things on the menu that they were not offering that night. Still, not an excuse....this is my second very unsatisfying experience here. What a shame as it has such promise! read more

We have been wanting to visit the restaurant at the Hotel Fauchere for some time and I'm glad we finally were able to visit. The outdoor porch is fabulous, but was a little too warm so we decided to sit in the Bar Louis downstairs. We had several appetizers - the bacon mac & cheese, deviled eggs and the cucumber soup (cold). All were delicious. We then had several entrees which were all very good. The desserts were phenomenal - the strawberry rhubarb crisp was my favorite. The service was also excellent. Highly recommend! read more

The decor in the restaurant is very hip/chic and modern. The food is good. I have been a few times. The deviled eggs are good. I have had the sushi pizza, which is good. The shrimp and grits I had were very salty. The steak frites was phenomenal! My wife had the short rib, which was also great. We had a late lunch there on a Saturday afternoon. It took a while for the french onion soup and beet salad to come out, but both were really good. We shared a chicken club sandwich and it was just Ok. The chicken had a strange texture and was not seasoned, while the bacon was undercooked and limp. The oddest thing was that he ordered a Yuengling Lager, $6 (brewed in Pottsville, Pa- about 2 hours south of Milford) and I ordered an Amstel, $5 (brewed in the Netherlands). Obviously, we are not in Manhattan, at a sports arena, an airport, or a foreign country that would warrant a charge of more than $5 for a domestic beer, but the fact that the local beer was more expensive than a beer that made a trans-Atlantic crossing was just weird. I would go back, but not sure if I will be able to convince him. read more

Arguably, my favorite place to eat in Milford, if not Pike County. I love the atmosphere, and the food (incredible burgers, YUMMY truffle fries, and either the chocolate chip cookie or red velvet cake for dessert) is top-notch. like everyone else is saying...cool, chic vibe. we were there for just drinks to rest up during a shopping day. Waitress/bartender was nice enough and gave us some time to really take in the bar menu. There are some really creative drinks here. She also checked on the holiday promotion being run by the village merchants (basically, you fill in 3 stores you went to and you're entered for a free night at the Hotel Fauchere). So far, not too bad. 2 of us had the Mexican chocolate. One of us (not me!) didn't realize that mezcal was tequila and was overwhelmed by the strong alcohol floating on top. Luckily about 1/3 of the way in, it mellowed out and was very good with cinnamon, the aforementioned tequila and chocolate. The hot buttered rum was awful, but to be fair my husband enjoyed it. I found it to be harsh and unpalatable. The real problem came with the 4th drink, the tom and jerry. It was ordered and AFTER the other 3 were served, the bartender informs us that the main ingredient needs to be made. uh...now you tell us? She said a couple of minutes, it was closer to 20. We were all done with our drinks and the poor guy was all but chugging his late drink. It was good (we all tasted), kind of like a very grown up eggnog with a righteous dose of rum. It would have been nice for her to take off a dollar or two for the silly wait. but no. I can't give the bar anything higher than an average rating, however, most of our drinks were quite good and inventive. Great French onion soup. However be aware of your drink orders we had orange juice which was sour and to top it off paid $3 for it. Dinner was veal, husband said meat was tough. I had the roasted chicken it was pretty juicy considering it was white meat. Overall it was ok, very pricy so be aware of what you order our bill for two was $80 no alcohol and no dessert either. Had dinner at Bar Louis this past weekend. Hostess and service were extremely nice (they even accomodated a last minute change in our reservation time). The decor is very modern and has a wonder ambiance. Very nice selection of beers. Wines list was somewhat small/limited. The only issue I had was that the food, while plentiful and nicely presented was a bit bland and lacked the "wow" factor you would expect for the price. Can't say enough about how great the food is here. My wife had the French omelette which was fluffy and delicious. I had the hamburger which was made from fresh ground beef and perfect fries. I picked Bar Louis for a birthday dinner based on its menu, which looked pretty solid. Unfortunately I found a small piece of glass (yes, no foolin' glass) in my appetizer. We didn't make a big stink because these things happen, but I could have messed up a tooth or, you know, eaten glass. After I brought the issue to my waiter's attention the manager came over and apologized and said they would "take care of us." At the end of the meal that meant comping an app and dessert, I think they could have done a bit more. As for the food, it was serviceable but I think this place is pretty overpriced for what you get. My steak came out more medium well than medium, but I didn't give the restaurant an opportunity to correct the issue so can't blame them there. Service was decent, no complaints there. My daughter brought me here for my birthday. I have traveled the world and this was the 2nd worse meal of my travels. We waited for 40 minutes before getting menus and then begged for bread, anything. We got that 20 minutes later. I ordered a vegetable plate and the entire thing came uncooked except the beets. I told my daughter I would have to complain and took a bite of her pasta. It was also uncooked. Seriously, uncooked pasta. The waitress offered complimentary dessert but my daughter had fled by then. The waitress didn't charge us for the meal. I go there now and then still. The wine is great and the atmosphere is one of the only pleasant places in the area to sit. The sushi pizza is greasy and only delicious to those who have never had really good sushi. Other visits the menu is a silly lecture pontificating on the virtues of pork. Bar Louis is A-OK. My partner and I went there in August 2015 for dinner. The service and the ambiance is wonderful. When we asked to change our seats after they already set up our table, they were very kind and accommodating to us. We sat out on the porch right near the red flowers, which was lovely. The only odd thing was that the lights on the porch were incredibly dim, that we couldn't see our food. We told the staff, and they did do their best to brighten the lights, which we appreciated. Ultimately, they ended up turning off the lights and giving us a candle, which was romantic but it was at this point very late and very dark that we couldn't really see our food. I'd say that if you decide to eat outside, maybe go a few hours before dark. Other than that, the ambiance was very nice (4 stars for ambiance and 5 stars for service) The food was OK. My partner and I are foodies and avid restaurant-goers, which I think might be why we weren't that impressed with the food. I had the trout dinner, which came highly recommended by the waiter. The fish was cooked perfectly, but the sauce, veggies, and potatoes were nothing special to me. My partner had the pork chop, which he felt similarly about. I also had the kale and quinoa salad to start, which was good and refreshing but had no flavors that I hadn't had before. I did have some wine, which was alright, but I have to say I loved their wine glasses. The rims were very thin, which makes the wine-tasting experience that much more palatable. The dessert we had was like a chocolate mousse type tart, and it was yummy but again, nothing too special. (2 stars for the food) All in all, a pleasant dining experience. read more

By far my favorite place! Love eating on the porch in the Spring/Summer! During the colder months my husband and I equally love the downstairs dining room. The atmosphere is great!
