I checked into the Moxy Hotel and I ain't kidding when I am say this was the smallest hotel room I have had in my entire existence BUT we are not here to talk about my hotel room but my A-MAZING experience at the Bar Moxy. I met my dear friend and colleague B and we mosied ( or moxied) our way to this bar. The ambience was jiving and our two bartenders - Ozy and Camillo were beyond brilliant - I had the It takes two to Tango and it was smoky, spicy and mangoey and B had the Foxy Moxy which had sweet notes of cherry all the way. We shared two apps - the fries with the truffled aioli ( super delish!) and the fried calamari - my favorite part was the batter fried red Fresno peppers which gave the app such a high kick - we will be back again tomorrow !!! read more

This is an upscale lounge located on the second floor of the Moxy Hotel. Note that the entrance is on 36th street, rather than 7th avenue as the address suggests. The lounge has lots of low couch seating for groups, as well as a bar. You can order drinks to your table and pay online (including tip!) via QR code service. I ordered the Got Moxy cocktail. It was sweet but not overly so. I enjoyed the strong berry flavor and it was complemented nicely by the fresh lemon wedge. We also got fries for the table which were tasty, especially with the mayo dipping sauce. They played dancey top 40 music which was fun but you could still have a conversation easily without shouting. Great option for a date or a night out with a few friends. read more

Moxy is a sporty little bar that lives up the its New York reputation. On any given night, there will be a live DJ and at least one or two activities taking place to entertain patrons. While I was there, Santa visited and people lined up to get their pictures with him. Each table has a QR code and a table number. You can order from your phone and have your food and drinks brought directly to you. I never ordered from the bar directly, I chose this option instead. The drinks were fine, nothing remarkable. A few people from my group tried to order off menu and were met with a little resistance. But stick to menu offerings and you'll be fine. Music is lively, upbeat and fun. It's not a quiet place to come chill, but rather a vibe that will get you in the mood for the New York scene. read more

Not bad for a night cap, but nothing special for the prices they charge! Got here on a Saturday night and were greeted by the attendants on the ground floor. The whole space is all funny - is it hotel? Is it a bar? Is it a club? Anyway...we went to the second floor bar/lounge place (access via elevator). It was pretty empty so moving around was pretty easy. There's a small area for photos that meets you off the elevator and then the large bar opens to the left. We grabbed two drinks at the bar - their version of a mule and their spiked pink hot chocolate. $40 (!!) later we had our drinks (pretty quickly) and were able to enjoy on the couches past the bar. The atmosphere was pleasant and the prices definitely speak to a certain clientele. Nice spot but the drinks are mediocre. Likely not coming back, but was otherwise fine with the experience. read more

Came here just to have a few drinks with friends after we had dinner. We was able to get in right away after our ID's was checked. It was a nice crowd, went straight to the bar and got some drinks. We was able to find seats outside. The view is amazing at nice and it happened to be a nice night to be out. There were no seats inside which was okay with us. We had some drink that comes in a pouch. It was okay just not for $23. So we ended up walking around and found a place to sit inside and ordered more drinks. The music was a nice vibe we didn't order any food just cocktails. We received good customer service, I'll come back to try out their food. I was invited here with a few girlfriends since one of them knew someone who had a few tables and wanted some ladies to join. Definitely a young persons spot.. as in just turned legal to drink. Also got the sense that it was a lot of people here who didn't live in NYC. Still, the music was good and it was super packed. Definitely recommend getting a table or knowing someone who has one. Staying at the hotel (which is great btw!), visited the bar twice. Hoping the second time would be better than the first. NOT! Out of quite a few liquors. Couldn't get any of the drinks I wanted. Had to settle eventually gave up and had bottled beer. Drinks were all made by different bartenders. Not consistent and not very good. Something you would find at a cheap TGIF or chilly's. None of the bartenders (encountered a total of 4) were friendly, all walked away while I was still talking, offered zero alternatives to the drinks I really wanted, and just seemed overall annoyed. Came to the bar bc the hotel offers a daily $30 credit, but in all honestly i would go out and pay! Which is sad bc the lounge has a great atmosphere. Major improvements are needed. Drinks are very pricey which is expected. Full service bar. Creative cocktails. The bartenders are great. Very personable and always check up on you. Don't have to ask twice for anything. They'll bring you water without even asking. Very helpful with answering any questions. The atmosphere is wonderful. Pretty snazzy and rather fun on a weeknight! Not sure why all the hating on the lounge area (2nd floor) nor on the upper floor/rooftop. First: drinks. Welcome to New York City. Any place for the drinks are between $12 and $18 seems pretty normal to me at this point. I don't consume alcohol myself, but my date had a lovely drink, made with high-quality contents & was happy. Second: noshes. Not the most delicious I've ever had, but not the worst either. The tuna tartare was pretty tasty and attractively served. The tempura was terrible. Really heavy and oily. It could've used a lighter touch. But what do you expect!?! It's a bar LOL. Third: vibe. We were there on a Tuesday night and I really enjoyed both downstairs and upstairs. we had a nice area to sit when we were on the second floor. There seem to be plenty of places to sit, in fact. It was just after work hours, and not terribly crowded so we could actually hear one another. Plus they had a live DJ which was a nice touch. I think they were doing that because they did have a special event there that night and lots of guests they wanted to impress. ;) The most fun was that they had a foosball table and my date and I got to challenge each other to a game. Sadly I lost. Last date with him ha ha! (Kidding!) When we headed upstairs, wow it was definitely a different vibe! It did feel very much like a "sexy hot night" type of club that one would go to trying to schmooze, pick up hot babes of either gender, and basically mingle and be single. I don't think I would go there and less I was going with a group and we wanted to dance or have some fun. It felt like it could become a meat market really easily. That being said, it was not very crowded when we were there and we had a good time checking it out. Service: yup. In some places we had phenomenal service, including how sweet everyone was at the coat check area and the security folks keeping an eye on who goes where and into what elevator and into what room. Everyone was extremely respectful and pleasant. Again, it could have been because there was an event going on and from what I could tell it was to entice people to book the space. Obviously everyone would be on their best behavior! But be that as it may I still got the vibe of generally acceptable but not fantastic service, which seems to be pretty typical in all of New York City. Overall: pretty good. It's convenient when in the Time Square area. Hopefully it won't get overrun by tourists! And if they do come here hopefully they won't go into sticker shock at the prices as some of them seem to have from previous reviews! Would I go back again? If I was in the area on a midweek afternoon or evening, wanted a sip & a foosball break, I definitely would. It took 45 minutes to get service, after being told that seating was first come first serve and that a waiter would be right with us. First things first, this bar and lounge is located inside the Moxy NYC hotel. It is on the second floor and has quite a large seating area with benches and tables. The ambiance is quite loud and the drinks are high priced. The service is slow as well. Other than that, the drinks taste good. When you do get service, they are knowledgeable about the drinks and they are attentive after serving the first drink. It also has an area outside of the main lounge where you could actually reasonably sit and work and enjoy a drink as well. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here; however, if you're a hotel guest or already in the area -- or trying to escape the rain for a brief bit, this wouldn't be a bad place to be. read more

To the Bar Moxy Employers: I just visited this bar on Fri. 5/11/18 and I had the most awful experience. As guests of the Moxy hotel, we checked in late on Friday night and the concierge gave us two complementary drink tickets at the Moxy bar as a welcome treat. After we put our things in the room, we came back downstairs about 1230 am to have a late apps and drinks. The bar was not that busy for it to be a Friday night: there were only 4 couples total (including us) and two bartenders working behind the main bar. When we sat down, the bartenders never greeted us. We thought at first that they might have been busy, but then they kept looking at us while they continued talking to other customers and to each other. At one point, they even left the bar together for 4 minutes, came back, and STILL didn't greet us! Just continued to chat it up with their other guests or laugh with servers! We also had empty glasses in front of us from the people that had gotten up before we sat, and the bartenders never come to move the dirty glasses or drop menus for us. Literally after about 10-12 minutes of them blatantly ignoring us, we finally flagged them down and asked if there was an issue or if the bar was closing soon. The one bartender simply said "no" and just stared at us. So then we asked about the complementary drinks. He was very rude and just responded saying they were "like bellinis" and so we asked for two. I watched him go to the back of the bar (because I was already suspicious of their behavior) and saw that he first poured the juice puree in both the champagne glasses. Then, he went in the refrigerator and pulled out a silver canister--just like the Starbucks milk cans that the baristas use--and he poured some light carbonated liquid into the drinks. Whatever it was, it was definitely not from a wine/champagne bottle. He then served them to us, took the drink cards, and left. At first, I figured since they were complementary they might have been pre-made. However, they were disgusting. The drinks did not taste like champagne but like flat seltzer water or ginger ale with juice, and the drink began to separate in the glass after sitting for 2 minutes. It was definitely NOT alcohol. After that, the bartenders never came back to us, never asked if we wanted to see a menu or anything, keep in mind that we came down for dinner. This whole situation occurred over 15 minutes, and it was an awful experience. I don't want to call this place discriminatory or racist, but we were the only two people of color at the bar, so we couldn't help but feel like there was something underlying going on. Eventually, a security guard started walking around the bar out of nowhere and so we definitely felt uncomfortable. Keep in mind, he kept stopping in places where he could see us directly and kept his body facing our direction. We barely touched the drinks and left. Immediately after, I went to the front desk of the Moxy for the number to a manager/corporate office and they also gave me the run around. So, my last attempt to report this was to create this yelp page to leave this review. I really hope someone from Bar Moxy and Moxy Hotel sees this and thinks twice about the people you have representing your establishment as employees. And it's really unfortunate because the atmosphere of this bar was very chic and the menu items looked great--could've been a much different experience. I have lived in NYC for years and worked in the industry at several restaurants so I know this was not normal and was the worst customer service you can get. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

It's complicated. First of all, the food and beverage at bar moxy is good. They serve (if you can call it that) some really good breakfast dishes. It's the service. Try flagging down someone to take your order even when the place isn't busy. Good luck. Oh and when you finally get their attention... you'll need to guide them on the basics of service and even cleanliness. The place seems to be run by millennials who likely live in filth. So, in their mind, there isn't a problem with not wiping down a filthy table before you put clean linen and silverware on it. Yikes!! read more
