This place is way overpriced for no reason. Don't get me wrong the views are amazing but that's about it. The food and drinks were underwhelming in all honesty. I got the new strip steak which I asked for medium rare and was pretty tough. We also ordered the crab appetizer which was literally a spoonful of crabmeat for $24 which was highway robbery. My husband and I went here for our anniversary which my husband mentioned when he made the reservation and it was not even acknowledged. The service was just ok nothing outstanding or above and beyond. Honestly there are so many other AMAZING places to try in New York that going here would just be a wasted opportunity. If you want a genuinely amazing meal with the upscale vibe and stellar customer service go to Delfriscos or Celestine way better options and spectacular service. read more

It used to be nice to go there for drinks and enjoy an outdoor space, now they ask you : - get a ticket to access the rooftop - to wait in line for 20 minutes before going out - to stay out for 20 minutes only - to share a tiny space with 40 other clients You only have access to the southern part as they blocked the rest of the rooftop with plants. I had made my reservation for 8:30 on a Friday night for just myself. I wanted to sit and enjoy dinner. It was made about a week prior to my travel plans. Most were dressed nicer. I didn't get how the females wore skirts, dresses, and heels in 40 degrees and rain, but more power to you gals. I chose comfort! I had a Malbec which was smooth and strong. We had a reservation for 5:00 right when they opened because we had theater tickets. We were seated outside on the patio deck in a small roped off section. A server promptly greeted us and made a little small talk before asking if we would like to hear the cocktail of the day. We do not drink so she said she would give us more time to look everything over. After a few minutes we decided to start with the cheese platter and the tuna poke bowl. This bar was referred to us from a friend and I'm happy we got to oooo to come out and try it. The drinks were Very pricey and the dress code is a little fancier than your normal jeans and T-shirt attire. The bar area is standing only, unless you have a reservation to sit down. My hubs and I got 3 drinks total and it was about $80 so I can only imagine the food being even more pricey. To make for a better experience I would say to make a reservation so you can actually sit and enjoy yourself. The staff was friendly and the place is very clean. Went here for my birthday yesterday. Experience was very disappointing and distasteful. Extremely incompetent and rude service. It was a task to figure their complicated and confusing system for reservations. We had 'reservation' for 4pm. On arrival in the lobby we were asked to stand in que. They let us up the elevator after 15-20 mins. by the time we got seated was 4.45pm. Nobody told us about the 45 mins wait time in-spite of reservations. Thankfully we did not have plans to go elsewhere, I cannot imagine how it would have gone for a toss after 45 mins of wasted time! My husband specifically mentioned we will be there for my birthday and the person stated she would make a special note of it with our reservation and assured we would get the best seating available. The hostess wrongly announced Happy Birthday! to 2 ladies who arrived before us in the que, the ladies looked surprised as neither of them had their birthday that day. She never bothered to say anything to us, barely managed to smile and directed us to just walk ahead. Not at all welcoming or friendly she did not have half the excitement that she had when she attended to a couple of other guests before us. We tried to reconfirm if we had a nice place for seating, she very disinterestedly sighed and said it is all the same. Our server was slightly better. She was prompt and helpful, again not friendly. We ordered champagne and 2 entrees. Flat bread was really good. Mushroom bites was a joke really. Could not imagine a place like this putting something like that together and put it on the menu. The Manager/Supervisor did walk by a few times, I tried to smile and speak to her she looked through me few times, completely ignoring us. Not bad. With location, view, and a perfect date night spot taken into affect - $150/pp with apps, main, and few drinks each isn't bad. The vibe is date night. The actual room reminds me of a cocktail hour at a wedding. They have a few tables to stand around while waiting to be sat, or you can stand on the roof, or by the bar. Because we had reservations right before they closed we were one of the last ones out. They didn't rush us or anything. Their bathroom is huge - and has mirrors all around with a comfy couch in the middle. Very upscale feeling. DEF want to return in the summer months and sit outside. What you're really paying for are the incredible views from the outdoor patio (tables are first come first serve but there is also plenty of room to stand and gawk). I went to this place as a fluke - my best friend and I needed to kill some time before catching a movie, and it was the nearest bar around us. Neither us were dressed for the fanciness of this place, but man oh man were we treated like royalty. There was a complimentary coatcheck, manned by the nicest two guys you ever did meet. Then when we made our way up the escalators to the bar, we were immediately greeted by a friendly hostess and a stellar view. Floor to ceiling windows give you an impeccable view of the Empire State Building as well as the gorgeous NY skyline. I highly recommend making it there around sunset. Cocktails were ON POINT and the bartender was friendly and knowledgeable about the extensive drink menu. I had the Black Orchid, while my friend had the Mama Rose. Delicious and the perfect level of strong - not so much alcohol that it overwhelmed the taste, and not too little alcohol that we didn't get slightly tipsy. The one con is the price. Very late review from May 2016. Came here around 10pm on a Thursday night and it was more than I expected it to be. It was not crowded inside and my bf and I along with two of our friends were able to order drinks right away. My friend and I tried their black orchid drink (very girly and sophisticated). The drink was sweet but it wasn't too sweet, it was perfect. My bf ordered the manhattan (which was too strong for my tastebuds that's for sure) and our other friend ordered a Long Island iced tea. After ordering our drinks we stepped outside to check out the view. If you have ever been to the top of the rock (my favorite view in NYC), you get the same view but of course from the 65th floor and top of the rock is obviously higher. The view is amazingly beautiful. We were able to see the ESB all lit up but since we were here at night time we were not able to see Central Park. The outside patio is definitely a lot smaller than I expected it to be, but it's worth checking out if you are ever in the area. I plan to come back here and when I do I would like to try their food and enjoy the view. Would I come back? HECK ya! Would I recommend this place? Yes!! Definitely check them out. We came 2 days ago. Nicely dressed before dinner reservations at another place. We wanted a cocktail and a view. We checked our coats with a very nice woman and walked over to the host desk near the elevator. The hostess didn't greet us, just barked "do you have a reservation". We said that we didn't and we're just going for a drink. She literally ROLLED HER EYES at us. She then held her finger up indicating for us to hold on a second. Another elderly couple came up behind us and she treated them just the same with the same question/response. I felt so terrible for this elderly man with a cane that she was treating so terribly... it was disgusting. The poor old man was so shaken by her he was stumbling over his words. My husband and I were in shock. We said no thank you and walked away back to the coat check to get our things back. A third couple came over asking for their items back as well and complaining about the host. This was a terrible experience. The elderly couple didn't make it up either as we saw them walking out by the Rockefeller tree a few minutes later. Yes, the drinks are overpriced. $20 for a glass of rose? Absurd you say. But hold on. For sweeping views of New York where just one floor above is the Rockefeller Observatory (mind you, the admission fee is $30), this place deserves a second look. I had a savvy NY friend who introduced me to this little hidden gem. Most tourists don't know about it yet, and the entrance is relatively discrete. Follow signs to SixtyFive, up the escalator, then up a quick elevator. Service is fantastic. Ask for a table outside if it's in the evening and not too cold. Bring a jacket, even in the summer because it's high up. They do have big glass panes that block the wind, so that's not a problem. On your way to your table outside, you will see sweeping views of Midtown Manhattan and beyond. The Empire State Building is straight ahead in all its glory. Perfect photo opportunity. On busy nights, it says that there is a two drink minimum, but I'm not sure that it ever gets that busy where they enforce it. In any case, the wines were great, as was the food, surprisingly. I was hungry, so got the fried chicken with waffles (an LA favorite for me). It was really nicely done. We also shared 2 desserts. A creme brulee with cherries at the bottom, and a chocolate mousse cup with I believe peaches at the bottom. I loved both. My friends loved the creme brulee more, but I loved the chocolate mousse. Our server told us the mango ravioli is not so great. If you have friends in town, and are looking for a place to impress, this is it! Unfortunately, I don't think it's open Saturday nights. This bar is located a few floors below the top of the rock, the view is amazing, the building is iconic. Apart from that, there's a lot of room for improvement, however. The service, drinks and food were just okay. The noise level was pretty high on a Monday evening. Both my husband and I got the grilled halibut, which was fine. The texture of the gnocchi was too soft, the sauce tasted luscious but was lacking dimension and the char on the artichokes and somewhat overcooked fish overpowered the dish. I had wanted some of the east coast oysters on the menu, but when I asked our server whether they were large, she answered that they were. I think she was selling me on more/ large is better than small, as I doubt the restaurant was really serving oysters from the Gulf (not even east coast) or the Chesapeake (both kinds are larger), which, incidentally, I think should never be eaten raw, because they're chewy and taste like ocean garbage. Again, the location of this bar does make it worth your while to check out, however, oysters or no oysters. read more

I would actually recommend going here if you want to skip the long lines and the $30 to go up to the Top of the Rock. A hidden gem on the Rockefeller center, SixtyFive brings you the exact same view as the top of the rock, but without the long lines and screaming children. Theres food and a full bar here, but we only opted for drinks outside at night as we wanted to enjoy the view after dinner. The drinks, at $25 a cocktail, are anything but cheap, but you're basically paying for the view you get. Instead of paying $60 for two to go to the Top of the Rock to take photos with a bunch of tourists in the way, you can pay $50 for two and get two drinks and a seat with an amazing view. As far as popularity goes, this can still be considered a hidden gem for how new it is and how little it still is reviewed on Yelp. While you can pay to go up on Top of the Rock, you could easily just dress nicely (business casual), get here free, no reservation needed and get a table and have better views of the city. We were seated right away and we didn't even have to order anything. The place was very lively and dim. We did decide to have some appetizers and a cocktail. The ham and cheese croquettes we ordered came with an onion jam. Pretty good. Our server also suggested these slightly larger than fries potato appetizer that came with a truffle aioli. Not bad, but the potatoes seemed a bit over-salted. Our drink was the rhythm & blues which came with blue berries in it. I thought the drink would come out blue but it was red. I wanted to try the sushi being prepared in the corner but it was hard to justify paying $24 for three pieces of salmon sashimi when I had no idea beforehand how good it might be. It sounded good from the menu, black truffle, truffle ponzu sauce. Maybe next time. Really though, the views are breath taking up here. The easiest way to see the entire city with the majority of the outside terrace facing the empire state building, times square, and the freedom tower. Take note though, leave the kids at home. We made a reservation and arrived before sunset but it was quite cloudy and intermittently wet on the day we went. Food and drinks are pricey but that is to be expected. The dress code is not very strictly enforced but it's probably best not to take chances as I did see someone being turned away. A collared shirt should likely see you through, perhaps not sneakers (though I did see people with sneakers on the bar). All in all, worth the trip, even if just once, for the amazing views. Since you're on Top of the Rock, there's literally nothing blocking your view, except of course, the couple next to you taking anniversary selfies. I came around 6pm so I can view the sunset on the Hudson and get a glimpse of the city lit up beautifully at night. It was already slightly chilly in mid September out on the deck, so be sure to dress appropriately. The indoor is very nice as well if you're more into that. Oh, and the bathroom smells glorious. The view is far better than anything any of the very good photos here describe, you get the same view as Top of the Rock with the amazing splendid view which makes 1 so proud to be a human, American, New Yorker, anything, you'll be glad you're there period. As for the drinks, just great, everything. Even the virgin pear water with ginger snaps is grand. It's super pricey but you get what you pay for. I had the Russeldorf beer from Cologne, Germany which was great. I feel that they super chill it so that it stays extra cold even after a while. The tips many say are all true: don't pay $30 for Top of the Rock when you can come here, pay either nothing at all or for some of the rather pricey cocktails ($18) though there are $10 beers which are still of a fine quality & selection. There's a sushi bar here which looked very quite since the prices are the top of the line ($7/piece, $22/roll type). The reserved tables on the periphery of the interior have a 2 drinks/person or $50/person minimum which 1 can easily skip by patronizing the balcony, the interior standing tables or no table at all. Unbelievably disappointed. I made a reservation weeks in advance to take my friends here who were visiting from out of the country. Less than 24 hours before our reservation they called to cancel my reservation because they booked a private event for the entire night last minute. Not only is the view amazing, as is expected, but the food shines!! I recently had a reservation to celebrate my friend's birthday, but it was forecasted to rain. I debated making a ressi at another restaurant (because we only really wanted to dine there if we could eat outside), for fear Bar SixtyFive would have sub-par food, as some places with a killer atmosphere can get away with. First off - while a table was not available for us at the time of our ressi, we were able to enjoy cocktails on the rooftop while we waited (there is a place for standing and enjoying the view, and a separate area for those seated for dinner). It was spectacular! Now, to the food. Every. Single. Thing. we got was a-mazing! Hummus - you could clearly taste the naan was grilled, it was very distinctive, and appreciated. The veggies that came with it were uniquely cut and beautifully plated. Parmigiano-Speck Fritters - delish, nothing more to say! Greek Meatballs - SO much flavor, not dry at all, simply fantastic!!! Kobe Pigs in a Blanket - the everything seasoning on top was out of this world. Note: pickup a bottle of the everything seasoning (at trader joes) and add to pigs in a blanket at home. High five! Finally, the staff was on point. While we only got a few minutes with Jane (it began to rain and we were moved inside), she was honest enough to point out that the amount of food we were planning to order was too much for just 2 people. Most servers would just let you order as much as you want, so as to pad their tip. We greatly appreciated her insight, and she was right. We were stuffed - which was unfortunate, as we were planning to order dessert as well. Overall, I would highly recommend this place - even if just to come grab a drink and snap a pic on the rooftop. I am so glad I got reservations for Bar Sixty Five for my recent trip to NY. I'd never been to the top of 30 Rockefeller and it was beautiful! It was a cloudy day, but it was still gorgeous. We got cocktails, the incredible shrimp/crab dish, and huge steaks! If you can share a steak, you should. It was way too much meat for one person. Came here for drinks and dinner the other night. I would say the crowd makeup was 1/3 tourists and 2/3 locals. I was glad the majority were locals, phew! The two of us ordered a bottle of the Silice Cotes de Provence rose which was delicious and super pretty. Shared the teeny tuna tacos, pigs in a blanket and the four joint burger. The burger was great, very well made with four different kinds of meat and perfectly medium rare. We finished with the chocolate dream dessert which was disappointing. For the price tag you would think you would have more than two tiny bites. It ended on a bad note unfortch but I will possibly be back as the space was gorge. Make sure to make a reservation and request a spot by the window. They seated us by a column which obstructed our view so we asked 2x for a new table and finally they were able to accommodate. This was ridiculous. Not a good experience at all except for a beautiful view, which could be had at many different places in Manhattan. I made reservations over a month in advance and still had to wait to be seated for over an hour!! Isn't that why a person makes a reservation to begin with? Then, since we had plenty of time to look over the menu we ordered right away after being seated ...and waited another hour and a half for our meal. What in the world? I politely asked the server a time frame after about an hour and 15 and seeing other tables seated after us receive their meals, he seemed surprised asked us a second time what we had ordered and how we had our steaks cooked!!! It felt like he forgot to place our order. My Cabernet came with a huge orange peel in it, so it pretty much just tasted like orange. When I ordered my second glass I requested it without an orange peel our server acted surprised and said that was probably an accident by the bartender. For a restaurant this expensive and decent minimum requirement charge per person, I'd expect much better service. Save your money and don't waste it eating here, it's not worth the terrible service and lousy treatment. It unfortunately made us late for other plans. Our reservation was at 7:45 pm and it's 10:45 and we are waiting for our check now after asking twice. After the meal the server offered us another beverage but we explained how things lasted with the meal timing a little longer than expected and we were running late so we would like to pay our check. Then about 10-15 minutes later he came back around again to check on us, so we kindly reminded him of our situation and again asked for the check, to which he then brought. It was all in all pretty awful except for the beautiful view. Don't come here, I felt tolerated at best, not welcomed. I'm just giving it one star instead of none if I could because of the beautiful view. read more
