We visited bar 65 last weekend on a trip to the city. We've been trying to get up here for a while now but on our recent trips the weather has not cooperated. This time the sky's were clear which made for spectacular views. We made reservation for a table outside but with the low temps and the wind we had to switch to a table inside. You can not stand in the north side of the patio/rooftop so getting a good north to north east view will not happen. South to south west is great! As for food & drinks. I was very pleased the Manhattan, enough to have a few of them. From first to last they were consistent. My wife ordered the Tuna Poké which was very good, the pieces of tuna were large and fresh. We also order the pigs in a blanket, which we both enjoyed. For dinner I had the four joint burger (rare). I was pleased to see it came out rare since many places still serve rare more cooked then I'd like. The 4joint burger was great, I really enjoyed the blend of the meats and the meat was very tender. I'd definitely order it again. I was tempted to try try clash of the titans burger but it seemed like to much packed into on burger. Maybe next time. read more

We got there right around 9 p.m. on a Saturday and we able to get right upstairs and a seat at the best table outside right in the middle. Best view of the skyline. Completely unobstructed. Drinks were good and around $17 a cocktail and $8 a beer. Pleasant experience. Only negative is sometimes service was slow but everyone was friendly. Came here for drinks and dinner the other night. I would say the crowd makeup was 1/3 tourists and 2/3 locals. I was glad the majority were locals, phew! The two of us ordered a bottle of the Silice Cotes de Provence rose which was delicious and super pretty. Shared the teeny tuna tacos, pigs in a blanket and the four joint burger. The burger was great, very well made with four different kinds of meat and perfectly medium rare. We finished with the chocolate dream dessert which was disappointing. For the price tag you would think you would have more than two tiny bites. It ended on a bad note unfortch but I will possibly be back as the space was gorge. Make sure to make a reservation and request a spot by the window. They seated us by a column which obstructed our view so we asked 2x for a new table and finally they were able to accommodate. I have some bars in NYC that come to mind that are so good and make it to me I'll-never-tell-you list. While this isn't one of them LOL this is definitely a stellar bar nevertheless. The Rockefeller observatory is a floor above- at this bar though, you get the same view for free. Granted yes, the drinks are truly around $20, but the observatory entrance fee is $30. Why do that to yourself? The bar won't let you in unless you're dressed well (YESSS, which means no gaudy obnoxious, mainland tourists with their selfie sticks). The crowd is a great mix of people and those who talked to us were super friendly- we went around 7- during sunset and during the time when most people would either be out for dinner or back home after work. We spent enough time there to see the sunset turn the horizon to saffron while the weather stayed kind throughout. read more

Dress up fancy and get yourself a cocktail at SixtyFive and you're literally saving yourself five dollars, with a 100% better experience.* Mitch ordered beers after that,reasonably priced. I ordered a vodka, lime and soda (trying to watch my thighs) but I was terrified to order it as the prices weren't on the menu, but other spirits have prices surpassing the hundred dollar mark... for one shot! I asked the waiter what the cheapest vodka was, and as his 2004 Oakley sunglasses suggested, he was cool about it. Mitch- I ordered the fried potatoes, and was more than surprised with the large portion of fried goodness that came out. Fluffy potato, crispy skin and a very salty seasoning. I went to Bar Sixty-Five last night to celebrate with my Mom. It was a rainy night but it was a great place to celebrate. After two bouts with life-threatening cancer over the last 15 years, she was given a clean record for a suspected third round of cancer yesterday. We were anxiously awaiting this news for several weeks. The food was very good. The Rockefeller fried oysters made the meal for me. I've never had oysters like that. Delicious! The service was helpful, polite and polished, as well as down to earth and friendly. I was impressed by each server and staff member who attended to us. The drinks were very good but not great. For a snack We had the chicken liver and foie gras pate with toasted truffle brioche and spiced quince jam with toasted bread crumbs. The helping of truffle in the brioche was generous and made for a delightful but not overwhelming flavor combined with ever so soft and fluffy brioche and that had the perfect flaky crust. The combination of the flavors of the brioche, pate, and jam as well as the textures of the toasted crust with the bread crumbs was wonderful. We also got a ginger beer with limeand a Vidal 2012 ice wine (Inniskillin, Niagara, Canada). The with ginger beer was a complex take on a typical ginger ale. Like most other reviewers, my partner and I made a reservation at Bar SixtyFive to avoid paying admission fees to the Top of the Rock. Even though we ended up spending more than the $34 we would have spent on the elevator ride, it was well worth it. The cocktails are fabulous and you NEED to try the Choco-Feller dessert. I started with the Silver Slipper cocktail which was essentially an aviation made with vodka rather than gin. I followed it up with the more bubbly Champagne Cocktail. Both of these drinks were delicious sippers, perfect for enjoying the panoramic view. The highlight though was definitely the Flaming "Choco-Feller" Alaska that we had for dessert. The Choco-Feller is essentially a ball of ice cream covered in chocolate cake and coated with marshmallow. When the server brought it to our table, he poured some kind of alcohol over it and lit it on fire which toasted the marshmallows. Amaaaazing! Absolutely worth the $15 price tag. I only had one issue with the bar. One of my pet peeves is places that try to maintain a faux-exclusivity. Both their website and signage in the building suggest a more formal dress code. However when we got upstairs we found that many of the patrons were wearing jeans and t-shirts. I also found that you didn't actually get a better view by reserving a table: those standing were able to get a much clearer view. I'd still recommend reserving a table to guarantee you get in, but definitely make sure you take some time to walk around and enjoy the view! read more

I've been to 21 rooftops in nyc before this one. This was my 22nd. Hands down, this is the best 360 view of NYC. Better than magic hour, better than 230 fifth better than any rooftop in the area. I was amazed that I could see the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn, New Jersey and uptown from the same roof. The drinks are super expensive but don't come for the drinks come for the view unless you're coming for the rose pop up shop. I did get two drinks and they were delicious just 20 bucks a piece(24 with tip)There's parking by st Patrick's cathedral so don't be afraid to drive. The view was unbeatable and absolutely beautiful at night and the ambience made us feel as though we'd picked a good place for a "fancier" night out. We ordered the cheese board, cocktails, and a few salads and I have to say the cheese board was to die for. I would go back for the cheese board alone... but the roasted root vegetable salad was good too. This bar is New York's hidden little secret! I am not sure why anyone would waste money going to the observation deck when you can go here and just have a drink for cheaper (unless you have underaged kids then I get it) The view is exactly the same. Bar 65 is on the 65th floor (hence the name - genius) and the observation deck is on the 70th. They have a fantastic outside area and a lot of bar space. They will make you check backpacks etc and won't let you bring in a cup of coffee or something that you are carrying - they are trying to be a bit more classy . Drinks are expensive!!! $10 a beer and $22 a glass of wine!! But that's still cheaper than the $35 you are going to spend on going to the top of the Rock. read more

Don't miss this experience! We got there on a Wednesday late afternoon at about 430... we were 2nd in line but it grew very quickly to over 100 people. They let those with a reservation in first (make 1-2 weeks before) and then in 5 minutes starting letting people in line go up but only so many at a time. According to "Merriam-Webster" the word reservation in this context is defined as "an arrangement to have something (such as a hotel room) held for one's use also : a promise, guarantee, or record of such engagement" We are traveling to NYC from out of town for a long weekend to celebrate a birthday and enjoy the seasonal magic that NYC has around the holidays. We made reservations more than a month in advance. A week or more passed before I was called and told they were cancelling my reservation because someone else wanted a reservation, which apparently has precedence over mine. The employee at Bar SixtyFive was kind enough to assist in making another reservation while we were still in town. Unfortunately, that good deed was undone as I just received a call from them cancelling my second reservation. Same situation, Bar SixtyFive pushed us away in favor of someone else who called later.
