Great little escape in the old Financial District in the Maritime Plaza Building next to the Embarcadero. This unique space is up off the street level offering a beautiful setting with floor to ceiling windows which makes you feel almost as though you are dining al fresco except without the wind. I used to work in this building and this space was an open air plaza that you stood under to get out of the rain. The bar is a great place to meet up with friends and if you are big into Negronis this is the place to go. The crowd is very Euro San Francisco and high-brow. Dress is chic. People dining in fancy hats, glittery pants, skin tight suits etc. Bright and airy the dishes are small and not too expensive although made to share. We had an heirloom tomato starter, an Avocado with focaccia appetizer, pesche and caviar appetizer a branzino crudo. and an agnolotti dish. As it was a special occasion they comped us a pistachio cake with a yummy pistachio ice cream. We had some comped champagne to start, negronis and some wine all for under $200 which was not bad. Small details. Some people don't like negronis, seating is very loungelike and low so if you have a bad back, get a seat at the bar, and on one dish there was a small ingredient missing that we noticed and the waiter didn't even know. I think it's unfortunate that too few diners talk about a restaurant's ability to recover from a bad service incident. I'd like to break that trend. My dinner partner and I had ordered apps before our entrees. My salad came out on time. Her beets were delayed,...and delayed,...and delayed. Being a gentleman, I waited to start. Finally, we spoke to our waiter, who told us that the items would be right out. Wrong. Finally,....our entrees came out! I was furious. Where was her app?! They offered to take the entrees back, but my friend was hungry, so we decided to just power on. A few minutes later, the manager came out. He profusely apologized. We thanked him. Later on, when we got the bill, we noticed that they had comped us the entrees! Well done!!!! I had made it a point NOT to ask him for anything, so I was particularly impressed that they comped us the entrees without our asking for the accomodation. I should add that I'm an African-American male and particularly sensitive to service slights. I was very, very pleased that the manager took care of the problem promptly and appropriately. My friend and I came here on a Thursday night for a celebration! We came a bit earlier than our reservation. We were directed to wait at the bar and given complimentary champagne. We didn't wait for long though before being seated. I loved the ambiance! The chairs are more like comfy couches, and the general vibe of the restaurant is quite nice. My friend and I got a drink each (from their house drinks menu). We also got the pistachio mozzarella as an appetizer, shared the red shrimp scampi, and got pistachio cake for dessert! Overall, it was an excellent meal. The scampi definitely stood out for us and was the star of the night. The lady at the front desk was just barely friendly enough to qualify as customer service. The guys at the bar looked like they were counting down the minutes until their shift ended. The passionfruit mule was disappointing, it didn't really have any fruity flavor and leaned more on the bitter side. The Bigoli Freschi (duck ragu) was unfortunately a letdown. The sauce felt very heavy and didn't pair well with the minced duck, which had a strong organ-like flavor. I did enjoy the texture of the noodles though, they were nicely done. If you like ramen-style noodles, the Scampi alla Veneziana (shrimp scampi) might be more your thing. Personally, I didn't love the noodle texture, it was very slippery rather than doughy. The sauce had a nice seafood punch and the presentation was eye-catching, but the texture just didn't work for me. We went on Wednesday at 6 pm with my husband and daughter. The place is on the fancy side, but it didn't quite meet my expectations in terms of food and service. We ordered a selection of cicchetti (small Venetian-style bites similar to tapas, inspired by the tradition of Venice), including the forest floor, the polpo, and the broccoli one. Price-wise, they aren't cheap compared to Venice, but that's understandable given we live in San Francisco. My main issue was with the flavor. Pleasantly surprised by both the food and the vibes at Bar Sprezzatura! We had a Friday evening reservation after visiting the Exploratorium, and it was the perfect spot to wind down. Loved the lounge vibes at this restaurant. Super aesthetic inside and service was wonderful-our server went through the menu with food and drink recs and checked on us throughout the meal. Plenty of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, which was a pleasant surprise since usually the non-alcoholic drink list is very short. Can't really go wrong with any of the drinks. The shrimp scampi was by far the best dish of the night. It was super creamy and had so much shrimp in it. Portion size was pretty big. Only reason I have a 4/5 stars was how slowly the drinks and food came out. Luis which is our bartender he was very nice and generous and made us a special cocktail which we will never forget because it was very tasty and he made it with love which is the secret ingredient to all the drinks that we try. . We got a dirty martini and a gin cocktail which was really good because it has out of flour and blood orange and it has a basil on top for garnish and it was purple and it was so fragrant. Also the gin cocktail was amazing and the food was very unique like I was drinking strawberry but it's not strawberry. The dirty martini was very strong and classic and can never go wrong with some blue cheese olives or regular olives of your choice. . They even surprised my friend after we told them that we were there for some birthday drinks and a Tiramisu was brought out with Grandma's recipe which came from Rome and it was amazing. One of the best Tiramisu and I keep on thinking about it now and I might have to just go back and get another one because it was that good. I am a sucker for tiramisu but not everyone has a good one for sure. . Overall I am so glad my friend brought me here and just not a place that you would think existed till you walk up a stairway. Bar Sprezzatura is a great place to stop by for dinner! I stopped by with a friend before our comedy club night. It's cozy, and has nice plush chairs and great ambiance for dinner or drinks. But they didn't take my name or number--I felt like they didn't want me there or care about my business when I had to ask about putting my name down on the waitlist. Then, over 30 minutes past and we kept walking in to check. I think they got preoccupied with a large corporate event that rented out almost half of the restaurant. Located in 1 Maritime Plaza, it was slightly hard to find. My partner and a coworker walked and Ubered and they were like, "where is it?" I was all, "walk up the stairs." It didn't help that they were undergoing some renovations so the entrance was through an office building, not the usual entrance. Me and my coworker both ordered the Bagoli. My partner ordered the Agnolotti. We shared the Little Gem Salad and meatballs to start. She got the regular aperol spritz, and I got a honey dew spritz. We were amazed at the amount of different spritzes they had--it was actually kind-of intimidating. The bagoli was delicious--that part was not overhyped by some reviews. The agnolotti was also very good--warm, fresh, flavorful, quite a bit of meat. The meatballs were fine. I liked the large portion of salad we got. Overall, slightly pricey for the food compared to other comparable Italian restaurants. The seats are plush, the lighting decor looks cool. I came for a late weekday lunch so it had a very relaxed, calm vibe. There were a few tables occupied and some patrons at the bar, otherwise a quiet space. It's an absolutely beautiful setting, so hats off to the designers. It was a good experience after an initial poor impression. She looked at me unsmiling as I approached the desk and quickly looked away though I was obviously coming to speak with her. She never looked up until I greeted her. Very strange. I hosted an after work farewell party for my manager here and they absolutely did not disappoint. I worked with Shannon and from the initial contact to the final payment, the service here was amazing. This restaurant is absolutely beautiful. Breathtaking even. When you walk in, it feels like you've experienced a time warp into the 50's. The furniture, the lighting, the bar design. Amazing. They sectioned off a small area towards the back of the restaurant for our party of 40. We had one designated bartender and he was at the top of his game. He kept our drinks and our appetizers flowing for our entire reservation. No hand was empty. Now that is my type of "carrying on." I have been very eager to visit Bar Sprezzatura. It was around 3pm, an hour before dinner service that I was finally able to visit. The experience would end up being lighter fare and drinks on the lunch menu, so take this review with a grain of salt as I did not order entrees. Firstly, the bar itself is constructed on what appears to have been the ground floor of a building atop dark sanguine bricks. Floor to ceiling windows give the appearance of an indoor space, but you can see the exposed bricks peeking through parts of the floor. The massive wooden bar reaches up toward the ceiling and covers nearly the entire width of the restaurant. There's a scenic view of the iconic Transamerica Pyramid just outside the windows. It was etched inside a Collins ice cube included in my first cocktail, the Fumo Rosa, which is made of Siete Misterios Doba-Yej mezcal, clarified grapefruit sancho-yuzu Japanese bermutto, pomello cordial, ruby grapefruit with Sal de Gusano aka worm salt brushed on the glass. It tasted a bit like a flat Paloma. The worm salt gave it a bit more complexity and weight, but what was in the glass tasted a bit diluted and light on flavor. My partner ordered a mocktail that was a lemon-based spritz with a ton of lavender. The appetizers we ordered were all very minute in terms of portion size. We ordered the Stracci & Caviar, Seared Ahi, Deviled Eggs, Roasted Beet Salad and half-a-dozen oysters on the half shell. The Stracci & Caviar and Seared Ahi arrived side by side on one plate. They were literally bite size portions for over 20 dollars each. The flavor was unremarkable. The classic unfortunate dish which does not add up to the sum of its parts. The stracciatella lacked flavor and the caviar and ground pistachios did not accent it enough to stand out. At least not with a single bite. Maybe after 3 or 4 of them you'd get more from it. The seared ahi tuna on crostini was even less memorable. I've had similar appetizers at upscale hotel buffets but obtainable by the plateful. The deviled eggs had cured anchovies and were decent. The oysters were immaculately shucked and topped with a prosecco mignonette. No issues with those two dishes. The roasted beet salad was loaded with the bitter taste of radicchio despite the fresh goat cheese and citrus ingredients. In my opinion, more citrus and beets and less raddichio would've helped balance the dish out a bit more. The appetizer and cocktail-focused experience here was disappointing and fell short of my other recent cocktail and appetizer experiences at Bar Crenn, Anchovy Bar, Dalida, Protégé and Horsefeather. That said, I would like to try their pastas and other entrees some other time and would be willing to update my review if they are an improvement over the appetizers. read more

I organized a large group dinner for 16 at this restaurant this past week. Leading up to the dinner, their staff was very communicative, helpful in navigating allergies, etc etc. Upon arrival, the space was even more beautiful than I anticipated. The decor, floor to ceiling windows overlooking a green space, dramatic lighting, etc. made for a fabulous atmosphere. Not to mention the fabulous tiles and decor in the bathroom. Our group enjoyed a variety of cocktail and mocktail beverages ahead of our three course family style meal featuring a spring salad with asparagus and avocado, duck bolognese and a spring tortellini with pea shoots and buttery sauce. I can't decide which pasta I loved more- they were both fabulous. Dessert featured a tiramisu and a pistachio cake with marmalade. What I loved was at the end they had desserts for us to share like tiramisu and rice pudding as well as cake and ice cream. The only thing I fretted about as well as some of my friends, was how to get to the restaurant as it is not at street level. Even my Uber driver was confused where the entrance was!! It is on the Clay side, with sliding glass doors and escalators, very easy! But if you have never been here it's confusing, we walked up stairs on the Washington side. I'm not sure that there is an entrance on the battery street side and parking might be challenging if you drive in. read more

I've been here twice - once earlier this year for a fancy date night, and again today for a birthday lunch. Whoever manages the staffing at this place deserves a raise. The service is 10/10. Unlike other upscale restaurants in sf, the people who work here don't seem overwhelmed and stressed out. They actually have time to get to know you a bit, discuss the menu options, and check in regularly - which is so refreshing in this day and age. My server today Jim was great - he helped us make smart choices based on our personal dietary restrictions and how much we wanted to eat, drink, and spend. The vibe is also 10/10. I tried quite a few dishes all were delicious but I could of eaten multiple of the Scampi Alla Veneziana. The noodles were nice and thin which is my favorite and the flavor was creamy and delicious, shrimp came de-veined and cooked perfectly. We also tried the meatballs there are little meat pieces on top that are really the star of this dish I could of eaten just a serving of those the meatballs themselves had a strong fennel taste so not really my favorite. Halibut was well cooked but its a very light dish they should definitely add more cauliflower puree its just drizzled. Beef cheek was delicious I could really taste the fava in the sauce which I love fava so I enjoyed and the meat was falling apart, and the little potatoes were flavorful and tasty. We ended with the creme brulee rice pudding dessert it was OK but not my thing and then I also order the gelato you get 3 scoops so I picked 3 flavors... salted caramel was my favorite but I also ordered the pistachio which had chunks of pistachio in it so delicious and also the passion fruit sorbet which is very tart but it was also delicious. This experience did not disappoint, but do the reservation they were a little weird because we did not have one even though the place was not full and told us they needed the table by a certain time. This place is absolutely gorgeous and so was the food but I really wish we could just eat with our eyes. Right off the bat this place's location is in the middle of fidi and it really sets the vibes. Came here for dinner with a friend and she said she felt really judged by the hostesses at the front. For food we tried the Oysters: fresh, great Roasted Beets and Radicchio di Treviso: standard salad just ok Some pasta off the seasonal menu: cannot even remember what was in it but not awful The best part of our meal was the pistachio cake (which again was kind of dry but at least there's ice cream) and the italian coke. At the end of the meal I paid in cash and asked them to break a $100 bill and it took them 20 minutes to get back to me and they said it was only partial change and they needed more time to break the cash. Is cash that obselete nowadays that it takes over 20 minutes and two tries lol? Not upset over that but did find it weird that they did not give me my receipt back after the cash so I just had to take their word for it that my change was correct and also wish they could've said cash was inconvenient so this could've been avoided. Office lunch on a weekday for a party of 5. I got the BIGOLI FRESCHI: Liberty Duck Ragù, Orange, Clove $28 which was good! I wish it was a bit bigger but definitely tasty! We also got a HAWAIIAN BIG EYE TUNA CARPACCIO: Castelvetrano Olives, Preserved Tomato $23 I don't remember what the rest of us got but I don't recall any complaints. Attended a private event at Bar Sprezzatura and was thrilled. Staff was extremely attentive, food was delicious, and drinks were straight up awesome. We were mostly on the patio with heat lamps. Servers were on it with orders and timeliness. Highly recommend for semi private event space for drinks and apps. Looking forward to going back to have a meal. read more

Bar Sprezzatura has a very chic vibe with beautiful big golden lights throughout the restaurant which makes the place seem very classy and warm at the same time. Food is okay. Nothing out of the ordinary and in fact very expensive. The drinks are good and look fancy keeping up with the ambience. Service was good. read more

I had no idea such a beautiful and luxurious, spacious and cozy bar existed in San Francisco, what a true gem of a find! The bar is above street level and appears to be part of the One Embarcadero shopping center overlooking an enclosed park area on the second floor. It's so quaint and nice up here, you can totally unwind and forget about being in the heart of the bustling and loud downtown area of the city. We had a ladies lunch on a Friday some months ago, and everything from the waiting staff, to the food and drink, to the ambiance and decoration of Sprezzatura is amazing! My friends and I all got the Espresso Martini, a must at here, and just looking at the drinks coming out of the bar and being served to different tables makes me want to come back and try other cocktails next time.. We got the Burrata and Caviar appetizer, which had a generous helping of caviar over the creamy, soft burrata. We also had the Italian Meatballs, which we could have gotten two orders of but we happily shared amongst three, so we could try even more dishes. I've been wanting to come back here again but just have not had the opportunity since this ladies lunch... It's definitely on my list of must do's for 2025! read more
