I was able to come in to dine on opening day and what a treat to me! Five stars for Tulia's newest edition in Mercato. As just a local connoisseur of in-house made pastas, and a big fan of Osteria Tulia, Bar Tulia on Fifth Ave, and The French, the experience met all of my hopes and expectations. Looking forward to dining here many more times. Becky was my server and was very attentive, refilling my Aqua Panna several times and checking in with me how the quality and taste of food was and even timed my second course according to the completion of my first course. Each meal begins with complimentary fresh baked warm bread with a eggplant tapenade or you can opt to use the olive oil which is provided on the table. To start, I had the watermelon salad which was so refreshing, it consisted of ripe watermelon with pistachios, black olives, thinly sliced red onion, cucumber slices, halved grape tomatoes, feta crumbles, and mixed greens and a lovely vinaigrette dressing. The pasta dish was in house made, spinach ravioli, served al dente, which is really the only way to serve pasta. The homemade sauce was incredible with fresh cheese on top. For dessert, the sugar roasted pineapple which was suggested by Becky and was a great summer lunch dessert option as it wasn't too heavy. Seriously 5 stars all the way around. As part-time residents of Naples, we search every year for good places to eat. We fell in love with Bar Tulia at the Mercato this past spring because it provided high level food and service in a somewhat laid back environment. We returned to Naples over the holidays and eagerly awaited our trip to Bar Tulia just the other day. While not dissatisfied we were, admittedly, a bit disappointed. Let's be clear that the food, service and atmosphere were all very good, though the food quality seems to have slipped a bit. (Still good, but not "wow".) There were, however, a few things management needs to review. 1. Service: Greeters were friendly and polite. Everyone inside was working hard and running around to help. Our server was polite, professional and our order was correct. I may be nitpicking, but he didn't come back to check on our food until we were nearly done. No offer of grated Parmesan or even to make sure there were no mistakes or to see if we needed a drink. 2. Food: The food was good, though maybe not a good as it used to be. My biggest concern here is that the portion size seems to have decreased by 10-15% while the prices certainly have not. This after having to pay for bread service at an Italian restaurant. 3. Drinks: If there is any advice you should take to heart it is to never order a mixed drink. The drinks are well-crafted and tasty but poured into thimble sized cups. Having been there before and knowing the martinis (my preferred pre-dinner drink) are served in stupidly small glasses (but still pricey) I decided this time to try a signature whiskey drink from the menu. I expected a lowball glass and, instead, received an aperitif glass with two or three sips, all for $18. Shameful. In all, we still like Bar Tulia and will return but with a somewhat jaded eye. I don't often after a first visit rate a place beyond 4 stars...And I will not assume that the next person who visits Mercado will have the same experience, I can only speak for us. Usually first time impressions are often influenced by ambiance, quality of the food and drinks, and finally, the staff and their level of interaction with the customer. On this occasion, it would be appropriate to describe Mercado as a truly a great place to be in based on a first time visit! Adam and Andrew are absolutely amazing with their customer service, and eagerness to make sure that everything is just right. Their presence contributed to the ambiance of the place. There are far too many mediocre Italian restaurants in town. I get it. Lots of tourists and mid-Western snowbirds with conservative taste buds so it's practical business to boil some pasta, toss up some sauce, throw in a pizza and boom, Grandpa and the kids are happy. If you're looking for more..here's one that tweaks the standard with a playful take on rustic Italian. Pizzas are always great, but my favorite is the grilled sausage which may be one of the five best dishes in town. Add in some terrific music you don't always hear in town (I'm pretty sure I heard Kraftwerk bleed into Donna Summer) and it's not a place for people with boring tastes. Oh, and the staff has shirts that say "Legalize Marinara" 'nuff said. In a land of yacht rock, these guys are blasting The Clash. read more

We ate here for the first time last night. Our server, Nathan, was great. The bread was delicious and served with a spread. I ordered my son the 4oz kids steak to start and we ordered the Tuna Crudo and Brussel Sprouts as well. As I browsed the Yelp photos for some inspiration, my son saw the Bucket of Chicken and was begging me for it. My boyfriend had the pasta special with goat cheese and mushrooms, which he loved. I ended up ordering the chicken so my son could have some and the gem Caesar salad. Everything was delicious, my son loved the chicken bucket with the corn and his steak. I don't eat chicken often, so I truly enjoyed the appetizers and the Caesar salad. We ended the meal with 2 espressos and split the pistachio cake. We will be back. We've been to Bar Tulia a couple times in recent months during quick visits to Naples, and each time it's been a five star experience! The restaurant and patio are both lovely. Service is professional and friendly- they were stretched thin a bit the last time, but still did a very good job. The menu seems to change with some frequency, but we've never had a bad dish here. In April my husband and I both had different stuffed pasta dishes that were to die for, and neither was still available in May, but the alternatives were still appealing. My cacio de pepe pasta was quite good in May, and his "bucket of fried chicken" was excellent. My in-laws spoke highly of the shrimp salad, the salmon and a chicken dish. The beet salad is amazing. It's on the pricey side ordinarily, as to be expected in Naples and especially in Mercato, but they have a summer pre-fixe lunch menu that's an amazing deal, so if you're ever going to check it out, now's definitely the time. read more

I read your comment. It is very condescending to say go to Bravo if I do not like your price structure. It is insulting to say, have I been in a grocery store lately? I do not care what the price is as long as there is a perceived value for the quality. Like I said, the pizza was excellent, I did not mention the price. So, I perceived a value that it was worth the price because it was so good. The sea food salad was also good, but definitely not worth the price because the portion was ripoff miniscule. The sausage was over cooked, it was dry. Should a glass of house wine at $18 be perceived as value? I also stated that the pasta was very good but the portion was also small for the price. We came to this location versus the one on the Avenue because it was closer to the Ritz where we were staying. But if you can I recommend you go down to the original location. The atmosphere is really nice but it lacks a little intimacy. The food was good but not as good as the original. Cocktails were tasty. We started off with a Caesar salad. Then went onto our main courses. I had the pasta dish which was actually the best thing we had that evening. We also had the special veal Parm which I do not recommend, it was very fatty and tough. They also have an amazing bar staff and management team. We've been coming here a few times a week for the awesome steak and mussels. All of the bartenders are super accommodating and the craft cocktails are amazing! Andrew made us a banana bread old fashioned that blew our socks off! The manager George is always friendly and meets us each time to thank us for our patronage. It's such a welcoming establishment. What's more? I went for the grand opening last night and it was fantastic! Our waiter had been serving the table since about 4:45 and he continuously did a fantastic job. As soon as we got there he asked if we wanted bread and water. We hadn't even sat down yet. I had spinach ravioli and my boyfriend had pizza. Our cocktails were amazing. My boyfriend and I actually got there quite a while after everyone else did, probably around 8 or so. So for our waiter to still be doing so well serving was extremely impressive. Visited this place on Thanksgiving as there were limited options open for dinner service at other restaurants without reservations. Called ahead to confirm the menu options and that no reservation was needed. We were seated immediately upon arrival. We were served complimentary bread soon after, but then walked a little while before being acknowledged by our waitress. The two star rating is because the drinks were good (but pricey even for Naples) at $16 for a lemon drop martini and $20 for a glass of red wine. We also enjoyed seating outside. The husband said his fish was mediocre. My steak frites at $54 was such a disappointment - lacked any flavor whatsoever and was very fatty for a NY strip. I asked for well done, but instead got some pieces that were cooked through and many other pieces that were clearly pink/red in the center and was clearly visible when brought to the table. The fries were also a huge disappointment! They were soaked in butter and soggy on the bottom of the plate. They had so much butter I couldn't eat them all and had to take breaks in eating them because they were way too buttery. So disappointed that our meal was about $150 for two entrees and two drinks that we didn't even enjoy. This place is definitely on the upscale, pricey side, which would have been fine if the food quality would be up to par but it is not. Skip this and spend your money at some other quality restaurants in the area such as Ted's or Seventh South. read more

Everything I had was very good, the oysters tasted fresh, not frozen; the Octopus was cooked to perfection by far one of the best ones I've had, if you are here, try it. Toast was very good, it was a little messy to eat but really good. The pasta was sincerely amazing, the noodle was a little big for my taste but it was really good, fun fact; they make the sauce with a little water from the pasta and add it to the sauce. My wife and I have been wanting to try Bar Tulia having heard so much about it. We chose the Mercato venue for our mutual birthday dinner. To be honest having checked out the menu before hand on what was on offer I was not expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised- we opted for the special three course menu at $39 pp. We both had the mussels to start and each had a different pasta dish- my wife the lamb base and I had the homemade sausage base. As it turned out I made the right choice. We both had the pineapple dessert. The was well prepared and tasted delicious. The staff are very friendly and our waiter , Nick, was exceptional. As it was our birthdays we were treated to an extra dessert. The atmosphere is vibrant and the decor is well appointed. Some items on the menu run quite steep, but there a lot of less expensive options. It is certainly worth a visit. read more
