Ambiance was good. But our server Taylor was not as tentative as I would have liked her to be. I appreciate the attempt. Not impressed for a 140.00 bill for 2 people..... My other party person that was with me, noticed that all the surrounding tables were mainly tended to, but ours just was not up to par. Food was mediocre, not as impressed with the salad, drenched in the dressing as if they dumped 1 full cup too much, on a small side salad, pizza was tasty, but green habanero rice pilaf concoction was a mishap that was served with the dry, overly enlarged piece of pork chop( pigs could fly bit), that was pretty tough. Been to BARBACOA  now 4 times and eh, still not as impressed as I was the 1st time. Maybe I shouldn't try anything new and stick to guac, rib eye steak and baked potato....nothing else on menu is worth paying for....... Won't be going back until the menu gets revamped and NOT suggesting BARBACOA to friends/ family any time soon. Eh. I visited Barbacoa with a group from work about a month ago. The outside has a bit of a "castle" vibe to it and the entry door looks like a gate to enter a castle (but it is a couple regular doors). It is dark inside as that is part of the atmosphere. It has a very "medieval"-esque look. Unusual decor and a red and blue colors. It looks different and a bit eclectic, but it may appeal to some people. My group was put in a side room. The place was busy and we had a large party. I ended up sitting right under a heat lamp. Probably useful in the winter, but it wasn't that cold, so it got pretty hot. We could see the lake outside, even though there was a sheeting to the room to keep the heat in. I must say that the servers are the star on this place. I don't remember our waiter's name or the other gentlemen who brang out food to us. Both were accomodating, friendly, and quick to get back to us. They are the stars in the review. The food and the prices are why there are two missing. The food is ridiculously overpiced. You are paying for what they set as their atmosphere. The rack of ribs with the "proprietary" tequila BBQ sauce ia not worth the $36 they charge. This is maybe, at most anywhere else, $25. And it is one of the lesser expensive items on the menu. It also isn't very good. I don't think any measure of tequila should be fused with BBQ sauce because it comes off extremely bitter. Realizing that you not only ordered something that isn't good AND you overpaid for it by 40% does not please most people. It didn't please me. I have zero desire to go to Barbacoa again. I may as well burn my money and go hungry and I'd be ahead of the game. The staff is excellent, but I'd rather eat at Jakers for 1/4 of the price and get 10x better food. read more

I proposed to my girlfriend here, best service that we have received to date! That is a high bar too, the service here is ALWAYS bar none and they outdid themselves. First off when my now fiancé went to the powder room when we first arrived I rushed to the hostesses and shoved the ring in one of the girls hands and spat out the words "Impropsingtomygirlfriendtonighttakethisandgiveittoourwaiterorwaitress!" All in one rushed breath. All 3 girls jumped in to high gear and gave the appropriate sounds of adoring approval. "We will get our best waiter and he can bring it out at dessert!" Next they sat us at the exact table that we had our Valentines dinner at, (no we didn't request that table that's just how telepathic they are) and the magic was just starting. I kept giving 'the look' to our waiter saying with my eyes "Bro! You got the ring right?" And "Dude that was expensive, tell me you have this all under control." To which his eyes replied, "I am the best waiter in the world and I love my job." Which is nice and all but did not answer my non verbal questions. After the guacamole, after the flaming hot rock steak, after the few drinks, he brought out the dessert menu. We chose the something or other, my mind was mush at this point. My soon to be betrothed dismissed herself to the powder room once more, (divine intervention), and as soon as she was out of sight our 'Too cool for School' waiter arrived disheveled and out of breath "WE HAVE THE DESSERT READY TO GO AROUND THE CORNER I HAVE THE STAFF HIDING WITH THEIR PHONES TO RECORD IT DO YOU WANT THE BOX OPEN OR CLOSED?" This place has an amazing ambiance. It's a fun, hip yet relaxing all at the same time. The staff was wonderful, Cole was professional with his expertise of wine, and bourbon selection the restaurant had to offer. We were bummed that we ordered table side guacamole and had to have it made at the bar due to the "cart"not fitting through the tables. The food was delicious, the table presentation was mind-blowing! I understand why people love the the presentations, and why its so had to get a reservation. I would say the food is average. I'm adding back one star, as last time the server dropped the ball, but this time it was management who initially made the same mistake, but ultimately over corrected to our satisfaction. As we weren't given the cotton candy tower on the last birthday visit, having spoken to management, we were invited to return to "take care of us". I mentioned that we would return on my actual birthday and was promised a better experience. As usual the service and food were top notch! The fumble always seems to come at any special requests. I spoke with the previous manager when making this new reservation and again mentioned my birthday, however it was not celebrated with a cotton candy candle (again), so after the check was dropped, I asked to speak with the current manager. He stated that he was unaware of my birthday request and that the note on my reservation only said that we had an issue previously. If this was a regular night, then the entire experience was phenomenal, but since it was the second fumble on the same request, we again were disappointed. I did mention that the new manager made an overt gesture to correct the situation which we greatly appreciated and enjoyed. He sent out a dessert sampler which was very good, although we did have to ask again about the cotton candy tower, it was later sent out. On of that, our bill was completely comped, which was very generous. Ultimately we were happy with the restaurant and service, but if you are celebrating an event, be sure to verbalize it to your server, even if you have already mentioned it on your reservation. read more

The food, the service were absolutely the best! The only bad thing was that in 104 degrees they had the back patio door wall completely open, making it unbearably hot inside. I made a reservation knowing that without one you usually get the outside or bar seats and knowing how hot it was going to be, was looking forward to sitting in a nice cool restaurant. Told the waiter who spoke to his manager; however, nothing changed so we had to cut our special night out due to the heat which was really a shame. Our server Zoe made our dinner worth it. The entire staff was phenomenal - you can tell they have very specific training on hospitality - but Zoe was above and beyond. She was funny and engaging, making us feel like we were good friends. She suggested we try their new tequila sampling flight, which we did and recommend. The food and ambiance were exceptional as usual, but the service is what stood out. Even little details that are typically missed at most restaurants, such as immediately refilling the water glasses each time they were even close to empty, were given first class attention by a watchful wait staff. We got some recommendations to check out this place. I am glad we did! This place is AHHmazing!!!The entrance outside has this welcoming vibe. I suggest to make reservations just to make sure you get a table. It does get pretty busy. As soon as we checked in, we just waited for a few minutes and we were seated. We started off with drinks: La Pina - delicious but a tad sweet. If I were to get this again, I will ask for it to be less sweet. Huckleberry vodka - served in an ice molded V glass. How cool it this! Great favor. and then more drinks... Heat Margarita and another beer Appetizers: Table side guacamole - prepared near your table and delicious! I cannot believe we ate it all!!! Kumamoto oysters- fresh and sweet. Octopus - grilled, tender and tasty. Main entree: Seafood Mixto - WOW! Depth of flavors here...tons! Lots of fresh and sweet tasting seafood. I am a sucker for seafood can you tell?! Dinner special (Veal chops) - hubby got this and it is cooked perfect! Tender and delicious! Dessert: Yes, we had to end the meal with something sweet. First visit here and it did not disappoint. We sat on the patio and could not be happier, view, seating, atmosphere and peaceful overlooking the pond. The food was delicious, seafood and carne asada was the entrees we picked. Presentation was A+. I was not over the moon with the dessert Black Forest cheesecake which was a recommendation from the server and a special of the night, very bland. The staff was friendly but not overly helpful. WOW! WOW! WOW! I'm not being dramatic! Ok, maybe just a little;) This restaurant is truly beautiful. It has a very exotic latin feel to it. The detail in every square inch of the restaurant is impressive. And the Gypsy Kings playing in the background... wonderful! It's definitely the kind of place you want to bring friends and family from out of town to. Once you get past all of the visual stimulation, you can focus on the unique menu. I will admit, I was a bit overwhelmed. Our waitress was a little snippy which surprised us, but being that she was clearly busy, it didn't really bother us too much. In the end she did a pretty good job of serving us. We asked for two appetizers, the octopus and the spicy shrimp. We only received the spicy shrimp, but it was so yummy that we forgot about the octopus! No biggy! We finally settled on sharing the Paella as our entree. What a great choice we made because it was so delicious! Being that I was born in Spain and having tasted many Paellas, this is quite a compliment;) I highly recommend this dish for a romantic date night. Something about Paella that just sets the mood. Crystal told us about all of the unique decor throughout the dining room, bar, and even the restrooms! The owners thought of everything. Ladies, make sure you stop in the ladies' room. It's over the top. Gentlemen, if you're in the men's room look through the peephole (I've been told ). We mentioned to Crystal that our son would be graduating from BSU in a few weeks. There is a lot of hype around this restaurant. It's very large and gaudy. Walking in reminds me of the cheese cake factory. Everything is large! Including the menu. It took us a while to pick what to eat. The crab cakes were tasty. My husband enjoyed his hot rock fillet mignon and I liked my salmon special. We felt the cocktails were lacking. Heavy vodka selection and the rest weren't that intriguing. Our server was very nice but also was very busy. Our table was beautiful and comfortable. Overall we had a nice dinner celebrating my husbands birthday but we felt like it wasn't worth the hype or the price. There are other restaurants in the area that I would choose over Barbacoa. Amazing experience. I went while visiting my family to celebrate my and my boyfriend's birthdays. We started with 2 table side guacamoles - one mild one medium. So fresh and delicious. I ordered the huckleberry mojito and my bf had an old fashioned. Our waitress was kind enough to put our drinks in so we could take advantage of happy hour! For our meals, my uncle had the carne asada. My father had ribeye, my mother had the short rib pappardelle. My grandmother had the 'when pigs fly', my bf had the baked salmon, and both my aunt and I had the Hot Rock filet. All said was delicious! My mom said the pasta was on the spicy side, which was unexpected, but still tasty. The HotRock was a cool experience and definitely a fun way to eat a steak. For dessert, my bf and I shared the chocolate mousse cake. Phenomenal! My dad ordered the flan. My aunt and grandmother shared the fried cheesecake bites. They said that there was mostly dough, as it seemed the actual cheesecake leaked out while frying, but the dipping sauces were good. For our birthdays, my bf and I were served cotton candy with a candle inside which was fun! (I blew out my candle before taking a picture) The restaurant has a great vibe. Very unique and fun. We were sat in the back room, which was quieter. We enjoyed that so we could hear each other. The main dining area was on the louder side, but probably find for smaller groups or a date nite. Not a great experience. This place was recommended to us by two Idaho natives, and maybe we just have bad luck. The drinks were very good. As a Wisconsin native, the sweet bourbon old fashioned was excellent. The espresso martini was also delicious. The steak was severely undercooked and very disappointing. We got the filet mignon hot rock ($60) and asked for medium, came out extremely rare. The hot rock did not help to cook it as the meat was too thick. The rock itself would've been better if the meat slab was thinner. The service was also below mediocre. The waitress seemed upset at us for expressing our disappointment with the food, and even blamed us for the steak being too rare, which didn't make sense because that was beyond our control. We barely got checked on, had empty drink glasses for extended periods of time, and left the restaurant with no goodbye or "have a good night." Not impressed. Wow I can't believe it took us so long to check this place out! I randomly decided I wanted to come here and when I looked for a reservation they were 6 weeks out unless I wanted to go at 11pm. 6 weeks came and went and we arrived for our 4:30pm Saturday reservation. We were seated outside on the patio and although it was hot, it felt perfectly fine with the misters running. This restaurant is really hip and beautiful. We ordered the black Manhattan and lily cocktails on happy hour. The drinks were great! We ordered the bbq ribs and duck for dinner and the campfire s'mores for dessert.
