This is an experienced barber who knows how to give the perfect cut! He listens to what you want and makes suggestions before he picks up the scissors. He is also the nicest guy. He can talk to anyone and I guess more importantly listen to anyone while zoning in on his craft. The shop is easy to find, park, and is a clean, comfortable space. As good as it gets! I went to Phoenix on a recommendation from a friend after having some less than desirable cuts around town over the last year or so. In my opinion, a barber-client relationship is sacred. In many cases, these relationships last longer than most marriages, and of course this is for good reason. After all, one must trust the man or woman who wields blades of steel in such close proximity to major blood vessels, and at whose sole discretion can instantly transform one's head into a war zone if compelled to do so. Again, in my opinion, this relationship should not dissolve unless one of two things happens: 1) Either the client or the barber move to a different continent, or 2) Either the client or the barber dies. When I lock into a barber, I'm set with that person until one of the above scenarios becomes a reality. I only hope that I am not committing to a one-sided relationship! All kidding aside, my requests are simple when seeking a barber: 1) Be reliable. 2) Keep your appointments. 3) Communicate when you can't. 4) Love your craft. 5) Be consistent. Let me provide you some context: I had a place I loved going to. They were great, but after a good year of consistent service, the turnover rate started to become readily noticeable. I like to get my hair cut every two weeks, on the same day, at the same time, by the same person. Consistency and reliability are key for me. But before long, they were calling to change my barber, then my appointments, then my barber again, then my appointments again, etc. This went on for months. They were so busy adding new clients that not only did I lose my scheduled barber and time (twice), but I couldn't even get a new one as their scheduling process was exceptionally difficult and impersonal. So much for being a paying club member for two years. While I don't demand to be valued above others, it does feel good to feel valued, at the very least, above people with no history with the place. Ultimately, we had to break up. Then, out of the ashes, rose the Phoenix. He is amazing. He has a long-standing track record of reliability, consistency, open communication, etc. He is efficient, inexpensive (I have received horrible haircuts for 3 and 4 times more than what Phoenix charges to provide a perfect haircut), and exceptionally talented at his craft. I know exactly what to expect when I arrive and receive exactly what I expected when I leave: a brilliant cut. Every. Single. Time. I highly, highly recommend Phoenix. read more

I made it out to Dallas for a friend's wedding after enduring 10 days without power in Miami (thanks to Hurricane Irma), and found myself in the unenviable position of needing a haircut whilst far from home. After arguing unsuccessfully with my date for an hour or two about the many virtues of looking like a transient wolf-man, I finally gave up and checked on yelp for a decent spot to get cleaned up. Enter barbercraft by phoenix. I called at about 3:00pm on a Saturday to see if I could squeeze in an appointment before they closed at 4:00. Naturally, they were booked through. Nonetheless, when I told the proprietor about my circumstances he went out of his way to keep the shop open and offered to take care of me if I could make it there by 4:00pm. When I showed up I half expected to be rushed along (I was holding up his afternoon, after all) but couldn't have been more wrong. I was welcomed with a sincere smile, was offered a drink, and was showed to the chair at a relaxing pace. Not that it mattered too much, but it's worth noting that the shop was immaculate and well arranged. Overall it was a very comfortable atmosphere. When I was asked how I wanted my hair cut I responded with some noncommittal answer which is probably every barber's nightmare, especially when they're holding the shop open late for a jerk like me. To the best of my recollection I offered some general parameters with the caveat that he should exercise his own artistic judgement and do whatever seemed appropriate. I'm still not quite sure what possessed me to instruct a total stranger to do whatever they wanted with my hair, but I'm glad I did. The hair-cutting was about as pleasant an experience as possible (good conversation, hot towel, appropriate and skilled use of scissors/razor/etc), but the final haircut was hands-down one of the best looking I've ever had. While I avoid writing reviews online at all costs, I felt I'd be doing this guy and the broader Dallas community a disservice by not cranking something out about this experience. It was legitimately one of those rare occasions when everything just goes completely right. If you have hair that needs cutting, take a chance on this place.
