Expect a nice, clean, safe and friendly location. Great for families or a nice romantic evening. Parking structure has a fee, but you can get validated at the Whole Foods Market. I like to eat here and then see a movie at Cinemark. This is the only Chinese restaurant I'd recommend in Playa Vista. The dumplings are great. The vegetable dishes are superb. I will order their Chicken Dan Mein noodles next time. Zài jiàn!

This place is always busy, but the wait is never too long. Service is okay, nothing that great. Food is pretty good, I feel like they have dishes you can't get at other typical Chinese restaurants. I like the chicken dish (forgot the name), it's spicy and flavorful. although pretty salty. You'd need to eat it with white rice. We also got the chicken fried rice which was tasty, not too salty and very simply done and tasty. And the stir fried noodles with chicken, it was yummy but again too salty and saucy. It's too much in combo with the chicken dish, but all tasty nonetheless. Of course they're all a bit oily, but those dishes in particular are probably oilier than others. I've been twice so far, and will be back if I'm craving Chinese food.

Had an amazing time having dinner here with my friend. Melissa was our server and she was the absolute best! Super friendly, attentive, and helpful in giving recommendations. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Clean and modern open aesthetic space and they offer a variety of food and drink options.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Had high expectations for the chicken and shrimp soup dumplings but it wasn't my all time favorite. I did absolutely enjoy the pork mapo tofu, full of flavor and paired perfectly with an order of white rice. The baby bok choy was flavorful and went well with rest of the food.

This was my first time here, and I really wanted to like it more than I did. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space itself is beautiful--modern, open, and thoughtfully designed with high ceilings, warm lighting, and a semi-open kitchen that adds to the energy of the room.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It definitely feels like a great spot to meet up with friends or enjoy a lively meal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Unfortunately, the food just didn't live up to the setting. I ordered the veggie dumplings, and they were underwhelming--they really should have been labeled spinach dumplings, because that's pretty much all the filling tasted like. The scallion pancakes were another miss, lacking any real scallion flavor, and the salt and pepper crispy tofu was neither crispy nor particularly seasoned. If there was salt and pepper on it, it was barely noticeable. On the positive side, the service was excellent. Even though the restaurant was clearly busy, everything came out quickly, and the staff was friendly, attentive, and efficient. My glass of wine was also a highlight and honestly ended up being the most enjoyable part of the meal. Overall, while the ambiance and service are strong, the food just didn't hit the mark for me, especially for the price point. I don't see myself returning, but I do hope they tighten up the execution because the space really has a lot of potential.

This is easily one of my favorite restaurants in LA. We used to order from dan modern when we lived in Pasadena but were so thrilled to see a location in PV. Everyone is always friendly, restaurant is spotless, tables have a lot of room, and despite always being crowded the wait is always minimal. I am terrible with names but the server who took care of our table when we sat outside with my parents who were visiting and she had our table again this evening is fantastic, attentive, friendly - I will update my review when I get her name! The food (not all ordered in one visit): XLB - any version is super tasty, light, delicious! Scallion pancake - light and flaky, great to share but a decent portion so might be a lot for two if you're getting other food! Popcorn shrimp - not overly fried, really tasty, love the spicy mayo. Mapo tofu - i thought the mushrooms overpowered bit on this one. String beans with garlic - I've had this at a few places in LA and this is by far the best version, these green beans are amazing! Short rib Dan mein - Savory, sweet, the short rib is super tender yet fatty - highly recommend! Chicken noodle soup - my go to takeout order, gingery/comforting it feels very nourishing. Dungeness crab fried rice - just order it, it's our favorite thing in the world! It's our go-to favorite spot and I highly recommend you give it a try!

Love this place! Everything is delish. There isn't a dish I don't like. I normally get chicken soup dumplings and seaweed/ tofu salad. When I'm hungrier or with other people I venture out to the beef roll, Dan Dan noodles, and the spicy oxtail soup. All amazing and highly recommend. Service is lovely as well, everyone is very kind and welcoming. Tonight Isaac was our server who was very attentive and gracious. I will be back!

I can eat at Dan's everyday. The food is always so good and the customer service is always even better!! Today my server Isaac went above and beyond for me. After a tough day at work he suggested some great wines and new menu options. Thank you Isaac for being such a gem. I'll definitely be back soon!!

I came for dinner last week with a friend, and the place was quite busy! The waitress gave us plenty of time to order, and was friendly about us taking a long time to decide. I went with the spicy pork soup dumplings as an appetizer, which were soo good and came out piping hot. I also ordered the short rib Dan mein noodles. Honestly, they tasted like pretty standard thick noodles. It was good, but I wasn't crazy about them.

Delicious green beans and dumplings! Serving size was a little smaller than what I was expecting for the price, but it was definitely a delicious choice! Parking can be a little tough: it helps to come with company for order pick up. Service was speedy, and the entire mall decor was very nice!

We were disappointed with our experience at this restaurant! As for food: We ordered Dan Dan noodles (note restaurant is called Dan) and the noodles were horrible. The noodles did not have taste. They were bland. The beef roll was also tasteless. The pork and shrimp dumplings in chili oil was slightly better in taste. None of these food items were worth the price of what we paid. If I came back, I would not order these items again. As for drink we ordered boba Thai tea and beer. The Thai tea was ok. The beer came in a pint class but was only 75 percent full: we later found out that it was due to the beer not being on tap, but in a bottle. The beer should have been served in a smaller glass so it didn't look like customers were being ripped off. As for service: we felt our service was poor. When we were looking for the server, we found in the kitchen when we needed him. And he was on the phone. When we looked for him again, we saw him walk outside of the restaurant . I guess it was end of his shift but there was never a hand over. Odd! And when we needed assistance ordering drinks, we had to get up from our seat and go to the bar. We left still hungry and thirsty, but at this point we gave up ordering anything else. Also we did not want to pay more for poor service and food. As for bathroom: dirty. Toilet paper and seat covers on the floor. Plus the bathroom stall did not have toilet paper.

The service was friendly, helpful, & enthusiastic without being "overly around" during an obvious girls night much needed catch-up. The salsa was nice & smokey, and the (huge cauldron of) guac was very satisfying. It was fresh, incredibly flavorful, and beautifully presented. The watermelon aguachile was equally impressive, with bright, refreshing flavors that were perfect for a warm afternoon. Prices are what you'd expect for a rooftop hotel restaurant, but the quality and execution make it money well spent. The setting is what really makes Butterfly special. The covered outdoor dining area sits next to the rooftop pool, creating a true resort atmosphere. Once you're up on the sixth floor, it's easy to forget you're in the middle of Culver City. You can disappear from the city below for a few hours and just enjoy the atmosphere. On Sunday morning, after my daughter's wedding, our family gathered there for breakfast before everyone headed home. I had the open-faced omelet with wild mushrooms, poblano peppers, Monterey Jack, salsa macha, queso fresco, avocado, and micro cilantro. It was outstanding. I also sampled my daughter's pancakes and ordered a side of the smashed fingerling potatoes, both of which were excellent. The only hiccup came when the server accidentally dumped my side of breakfast potatoes into my brother-in-law's lap after the chrome fry basket tipped off the tray. He had already eaten elsewhere and had just sat down to visit with us, so it was an unfortunate way to say hello. The staff immediately apologized and brought out another order of potatoes, which was appreciated. Mistakes happen, and they handled it professionally without letting it overshadow an otherwise excellent meal. Overall, Butterfly serves high-quality food that is thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented in a fantastic setting. Whether you're staying at The Shay or simply looking for a rooftop meal in Culver City, it's well worth a visit. 5 stars

We were sitting in the bar area, and I think on the other side of the outdoor host area is more traditional restaurant seating, though I can't be sure. Jesse was our server and he was very kind and, by his own admission, new to the place. He worked hard to make things right for us. We started off with two glasses of happy hour pinot noir ($6) which were served very warm. When I inquired about it, he told us that they serve wine at "ambient temperature," but he would mention it to management. When it's over 80 outside, you should not be serving wine at that temp. He brought another glass in a little carafe on ice to try to remedy it, which was kind. I ordered a Watermelon Mojito on happy hour, with no agave ($10). It was fine. Other drinks our group ordered were a Lagunitas IPA ($8), a Pacifico ($8), and cold glasses of champagne (I asked before ordering to be certain; $12). As for the food, it was also ok, not bad, but fine. We shared the happy hour vegan Brussels Sprouts ($10)--no one is vegan, but that is how they come--the happy hour Margarita Flatbread ($10), the Lamb Bam sliders ($17 for two, add $6 for a 3rd), the Short and Saucy Tacos ($18 for 3) short rib tacos, and the Bone to be Wild ($18) for two large pieces of bone marrow with a few small toasted squares of bread. All of it was fine, in some cases a bit overpriced, especially off of happy hour. Many people seemed to love it, but our group was all of the opinion that it was fine. We stopped in for a late lunch and ordered the "Eggcellent Lunch" prix fixe, which included the following: *Tuna Tataki Handroll ~ seared wild caught tuna, tomato & shallot salsa, rayu chili oil, ponzu, micro cilantro *Seaweed Salad ~ w/minced garlic. Served alongside the Tuna Tataki Handroll *Squid Ink Karaage ~ 2-day brined fried chicken thighs, squid ink, house pickles, grilled lime, black garlic ranch *Chicken Breast Skewer ~ char siu marinade, black sesame *Bacon Shishito Skewer ~ applewood smoked bacon *Chicken Meatball Skewer ~ sous vide egg yolk & tare dip Bottom line, everything had visual appeal and was packed with flavor! If we lived locally, we would definitely return for dinner. I have no doubt the rest of the menu would be just as tasty, and I can only imagine the restaurant coming alive in the evening with a lively crowd, happy diners, and a well-stocked bar.

Porkbelly- 5/5 another classic very yummy and i liked the wasabi? they put on top white prawn- 0/5 : this was NOT good. my only skip of the night left a gross fishy flavor in my mouth. I did not enjoy mushroom party- 5/5 i love mushrooms so I adored this one. Great assortment. Ribs- 4/5 very sweet would suggest getting a veggie to cut the sweetness and richness. Overall very yummy. I LOVE DAMA. If I could give this place more than five stars, I absolutely would. I've been coming…read morehere for the past six years, and it has truly become my favorite restaurant. From the exceptional food and drinks to the warm hospitality and beautiful location, every visit is a wonderful experience. the service is always welcoming and attentive. I've recommended DAMA to so many friends over the years, and it has become a favorite for them as well. It's rare to find a restaurant that maintains such a high standard year after year, but DAMA does exactly that. I truly love this place and can't recommend it enough. I have several favorite dishes and celebrated many birthdays here. Thank you for six incredible years--I look forward to many more.

Was brought here by a friend as they knew I was a foodie and wanted to show me their favorite tapas…read morespot Downtown in the Fashion Distric for an early birthday celebration. Cute building with lovely patio seating: from the trailing hanging pothos plants, Spanish tiles, to relaxing latin-house music the vibes were welcoming. I'm not much of a drinker though, when asked if I wanted to make my pina colada a "float" I thought incorrectly about ice cream. It was graciously explained that you take an additional shot of rum and float it on top of the drink or mix in to make it extra boozy. The pina colada is top notch they hollow out a real pineapple to make the drink and it's the size of your face! The watermelon cocktail was delicious and there is also a mezcal option. Tasted like if a watermelon aqua Fresca was combined with a margarita, there is a hint of salt that brings out the fruit sweetness. We special ordered a bunch of different proteins and vegetables at half portions to make a feast: Aguachile- Light refreshing starter, kanpachi perfectly marinated and great for the summer heat. Crispy potato- Phenomenally done fingerling potatoes. Whipped beans- Carnitas on top made this dish. Fried chicken tacos- Found the chicken slightly on the dry side, if there was a creamy/thicker sauce would be even better... nothing wrong with flavor, good mild heat. I did enjoy the fresh shredded cabbage and carrots, reminded me of bahn mi. Empanadas- Loved the acidity of the sauce that cut through the fattiness of the ground meat. Light shell. Crispy Squash flower- Delicate crunch, like an angelic version of a jalapeno popper. Lamb chops- Definition of "treat-yourself" luxurious meat lollipops. Celery salad- Simple dish but the lemon flavor and tartness really helped break up the richness of other dishes. Churros- Light crunch and small, petite dessert. The thin caramel sauce is addicting. Fine dining, for those special occasions or if you just want to splurge for a morale boost highly recommend this restaurant. Valet parking or park across the street or around the corner in a lot for $5-10.
