Let me start by by saying that I haven't been here in quite some time and now I can see that I've missed nothing. First we get seated and the server says "the kitchen is behind so if you're looking to get your food quickly, it's not happening." What? Who says that? So we order cups of clam chowder but there's no silverware. So we waited another ten minutes before we had to get the attention of a different server to get us silverware. Meanwhile, we're waiting for our waitress to come back by to take our order, but she is just walking around while we see other tables that came in after us getting service. Waitress finally comes over after about 20-25 minutes and tells us she was waiting for the kitchen to catch up before taking our order. Again, what??? Mind you other tables were getting their orders taken. After another half an hour, our plates arrived ( we ordered baked stuffed scrod). Scrod was dry, sauce had no taste and the sides (mashed and corn) tasted as if they were just reheated in a microwave. My son orders a cheeseburger and fries and the cheeseburger was burnt and like a hockey puck. Two sprites to drink were flat as well. Overall, we were there almost an hour and a half. One of the worst experiences we have had a restaurant in a long time. We will not be going back for a very long time and I would not recommend this place to anyone at all. Tried this spot as part of our local Portuguese restaurant dining "tour" and had a great experience. The dining room was quiet on a weeknight, but the bar was buzzing with activity. The extensive menu and attentive staff stood out, and both the cocktails(less than $10!) and wine were generously poured. We started with garlic shrimp, followed by Cajun scallops ($29) and grilled salmon ($22)--all flavorful and satisfying portions. I've been here twice. Once to dine in and once for takeout. It's a beautiful restaurant with top notch servers whom make this a great local place with upscale class. Both times I've gotten the prime rib (MR) and it has been good. This most recent time they offered but just two sides - corn and butternut squash (as well as the obligatory potato) I don't know I think o was just hoping for something green with my meat and potatoes - broccoli, asparagus something. Consistency is key and this is why they earn the 5 stars. Never get a disappointed meal here. The food is always served hot, the servings are great and the food tastes delicious! Our waitress Aggie was like having your grandmother wait on you, so you when you told her what you wanted, if there was something better on the menu, that's what she talked you into ordering. Barcellos is always a reliable place to go when you want something good and want to stay in Tiverton. The food is always consistent and the service is great. They have two sides to their building, a traditional dining room side and a bar side (with tables as well). The whole setup is very roomy and you never feel crowded. They are not your typical Portuguese restaurant at all; they offer tons of options for local RI favorites, of course including lots of seafood as well. Pretty much something good for everybody. My personal favorite is the baked stuffed chicken breast with their delicious gravy. Their soups are very good as well, and I can never turn down a cup before my meal. Have them pour a good glass of wine and you are sure to be impressed by the whole experience! Overall this is a great local restaurant and bar. There is something to satisfy whatever it is you are craving and it will likely be very good! This is the type of place you will definitely look forward to coming back to. read more

I've been to this place twice, once for lunch a few years back and once for dinner last night. The place is remarkably consistent: a nice casual family style place with good food, varied menu, and a really friendly atmosphere. While the bar side was recently redone, the restaurant side has basically a function hall aesthetic. It's casual and large, we had no trouble getting a seat on a Sunday evening. The waitresses all seem like they've been working there forever and are friendly and professional. This is more of a "linger over your meal and talk" sort of place, so service isn't speedy but it's also not inattentive. You won't get hustled out the door. We had the chicken kebabs (I ordered mine with cajun sauce that was nicely spicy) which came with corn and yellow rice, and the veal parmesan over pasta with a chowder starter. The red sauce was more sweet than spicy, everything was cooked perfectly and portions were good. Nothing surprising which was basically the experience I was looking for. I live in Boston, but grew up in the Tiverton/Fall River area. I was just in town visiting, and popped into Barcellos with my spouse for dinner this evening. This was such a breath of fresh air. The service was very friendly, and the food was fantastic. We both got the kale soup. The broth was so tasty; it was clearly made from scratch and served piping hot. I opted for surf and turf. The tips were perfectly seasoned and cooked as ordered. The portion was gluttonous and could have fed a family. I also hadn't enjoyed baked stuffed shrimp like the ones I had today in YEARS. My spouse got the clam boil with lobster. The amount of food we received was incredibly generous, but it was also quality. I do believe the lobster was about 1.5 pounds. DELICIOUS! We were both very impressed, and agreed that this was the best meal of the weekend. We will definitely be back to this Tiverton institution. read more

Went got a birthday party. Had reservations for 7pm but didn't get seated til almost 7:30 even tho our table was empty and ready. The host was super slow and seemed completely out of it. I want to give this place a good rating simply because the staff is so nice and sweet and you may want to take my review with a grain of salt because I'm not obsessed with Portuguese food like most folks in the area. Compared to the other great Portuguese restaurants around, it's pretty pricey. Most places, you can get a grand 'ol steak doused in garlic cloves and topped with half the sliced potatoes in Idaho and it'll still cost you under ten bucks. I've always admired the value of Portuguese food more than the flavor - though I've had some pretty good meals. Here, the Portuguese steak is about $15 bucks and comes in a little bowl topped with the egg, the fried potatoes, but NO garlic? What gives? That's my favorite part! Chicken Mocambique was spicy but with little flavor otherwise. The portion was large enough for two meals, but I didn't really want the leftovers. Salad had about two leafs of lettuce in it (I know it's complimentary, but c'mon I love salad). I didn't try the Kale soup, but my boyfriend who is biased towards Portuguese food said it was great. Overall, I just wasn't impressed and maybe I have all the five-star reviews on Yelp to blame for that but I wouldn't come back except maybe to hang out in the bar which looked like a lot more fun than the quiet ballroom style dining room. read more

Good, high quality BUT very small portion and expensive. Big irritant: We both got diet Cokes. Unlike every restaurant we've been to in the last 10 years, no free refills. Never thought we needed to ask. Two refills each for glasses of ice with a shot of soda and $15 later means we won't be back. Hey Barcello's, food cost on soda is peanuts. I always write reviews with the " for what it is" point of view, so here we go. I grew up in Tiverton, went to Ranger school ( now gone) and had driven by there my whole life and never went, never knew anyone that went and never heard anyone talk about Barcellos. I just bought a house down the street and decided, 33 years is long enough. From the outside , you don't know what your getting yourself into. Apprehensive at best, we walked in to find a recently remodeled restaurant. It's not fancy. It's straight forward, no fluff family establishment. We were greeted with a smile and we're seated immediately. I opened thr menu and thought 2 things. This menu is way too big for them to be good at cooking all these things and that the prices were very reasonable. Our waiter came over and took our orders and the food arrived in a timely fashion. Kale soup was excelent! Entrees were shrimp mozambique, Prime rib, and seafood extravaganza! All 3 of us were ecstatic with our food! 5 stars because I am shocked at the value and the quality !
