Always crowded (especially after the demise of Habana across the street), Barcelona is fun, social, and energetic. We have dined many times at Barcelona and have never had a bad meal (at this location at least). Red sangria is excellent. Faves are the roasted garlic, empanadas, duck confit and octopus salad. There's a reason Andy Pforzheimer's Barcelona Wine Bar and Restaurant lasted past the tapas bar craze in the '90's and has expanded since then -- it has always done this much better than most. The food is fresh and tasty, especially the seafood. I love their sangrias, and they have a great selection of wines by the bottle as well. The tapas approach to serving -- a variety of small dishes you share with the table -- is very much consistent with the current move to "snacking" rather than having a full course dinner. It also makes it a great place to go with a group. The Norwalk location is right in the heart of SoNo, nearly across from the cinemas. Start at Barcelona, take in a late movie, then walk over to Chocopologie for a dessert. Mmmmm. Barcelona also has a terrfic catering business, and catered a 60 person affair for me. The food and atmosphere here are phenomenal. I've been here for an anniversary, a birthday and taking my soon to be "in-laws," and have yet to be let down. Ryan, our waiter twice now, has been extremely friendly (and even remembered us after eating there 2 months ago - wow!) and is very knowledgable about the menu and the food. He was able to guess my drink based on my description of "it was colorful and had a funny name." The food here is tapas and great to share, we're typically satisfied with 6 plates between 2 people, or 12 between 4. It was all delicious, and the portion sizes were pretty decent (always wish there was just one more empanada.) Their bartender is a pro, and they have a really great wine selection in the back room. They have people who are wine connoisseurs on staff that can help you pick the best tasting wine, or pairing for your dishes. This is a great date place, or a place to take someone you want to impress. This is a suuuuper 5 stars spot. And actually better than the other Barcelona locations. ( I've tried some of them.) Very cool enviroment, looots of wine options, and the tapas are great! ( Try the beats... they are amazing!) But what maked this place so wonderful is the service. The staff is super helpful and friendly. They usually have good wine knowledge and can help you out with your choices. Thumbs up for the manager. Really cool guy. Everytime I've been there he was just great in his atitude towards me and my friends. That is the type of manager you want to take care of your business. Any little doubt I had with my bills he was cool about it. The only thing about this place is that the tables are too small and so are the portions. But woth a visit for a friday or saturday night. Barcelona is always delicious! The way to do it is to go with a group so you can get tons of tapas and taste a little of everything. Each time we go back we find ourselves loving the shishito peppers and potato tortilla. The sunchokes were sooo good but they seem to be off the menu. If you aren't doing tapas, the steak with chimichurri is amazing. We were completely in love with the olive oil served to dip the fresh, warm bread in- it tasted exceptionally good. I've lived in Fairfield for 2.5 years now and have been wanting to try a Barcelona location the entire time, finally got the chance last night after my 2 girlfriends and I stumbled out of a sip n' paint class in South Norwalk, hungry and not ready to go home, and walked by Barcelona just as the GM stepped outside onto their patio seating area. We asked how late they were open and he was very friendly and welcoming and reassured we had plenty of time. Wandered away to find some grass for my friend's service dog with the promise of returning, which we did.......when we came back we were given a table in the corner of the bar area that was thoughtful and perfect as it gave us a slightly more private space for the service dog to chill under the table against a partition without strangers' legs and feet being of any threat to his comfort. For the sake of full disclosure, we were already a bit tipsy and a bit ridiculous but the staff were nothing but professional while also having fun with us. I made a comment that since we were in a Spanish restaurant we should have Spanish wine and I asked Jason the GM which Tempranillo was his favorite. He came back with 3 bottles that were offered by the glass and had us do a mini tasting. We ended up choosing the 1998 (and later got a bottle of the 2009 as well). I love that he did that for us without me even asking. Once the wine was ordered our waiter Victor came over to pour it and we started talking food. We were so hungry and had no idea what to order but he took charge and made some great recommendations. The tapas he recommended actually ended up being our favorites. We had empanadas, mini croquettes, meatballs, mussels, and mushrooms with goat cheese.....the latter was the major winner. The empanadas and meatballs were also my favorites, all served with generous amazingly chewy crusty bread. Having a girls night out on a Tuesday- we were a whole lot to handle but everyone was so wonderful to us. Additional shout out to bartender Amanda. Overall, wouldn't change a thing. The restaurant is very clean, decor is subtly hip without trying too hard. I love the stainless steel floors in the bathroom (of all things to mention, ha). I went there with my husband one night. It was packed inside and we sat outside even it was little cold. The service was good. The waitress was very friendly and couple other staff came by to make sure everything is ok too. The food was just ok for me. Everything was a little bit dry and seems to be less than what it could be. I would go back for a 2nd try, and see it will be better or not. read more

This is the best tapas place ever in my opinion. My boyfriend and I go to Barcelonas once or twice month, or everytime we have family visiting. The food is to die for and the wine selection great! Specially on Sundays when they have half off the wine bottles. This is not a cheap place in general, but considering the type of food, service quality and wine selection this is a very well priced place. The food was really good. I was pleasantly happy with it. The service could have been a little better though. I ordered and apple cider but got a pear cider. When I found another server to correct the issue, they went back to check to then tell me they were out of the apple. A little communication could have saved a step there. So happy to have Barcelona back in Norwalk! And what a beautiful restaurant! Very modern with a bit of European Wine Bar thrown in. They are in a class by themselves for tapas. Thanks for Brandy and Zach for ensuring our large Foodie group's experience was wonderful. We squeezed into the bar but were able to move about and chat among all 21 of us! The drinks (including 1/2 price wine bottles on Sunday night!) were great while the food all came out to perfection! To be honest though, some of the food trailed a bit but as they work out the kinks we all hope Barcelona is back to stay in Norwalk in the Waypointe! It stays on our foodie must go list! read more

Short version: tasty food, a bit on the expensive side with a hipster 30-something feel. Expanded: Very tasty food with a wide wine selection. They are helpful when picking out a bottle of wine without being condescending. The best deal is definitely the calamari, I highly recommend it. It was light, crispy, and not oily at all. The tuna tartare was good but heavy on the capers and I've gotten more for less at fancier restaurants. Every one that we encountered was very nice and eager to help you make a selection, since the menu changes frequently I would recommend using them if you need direction. The only reason Barcelona is getting 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the quantity of food you get for the price. For two hungry adults we split 6 tapas along with two bread baskets and a bottle of wine. read more

We (6 people) had a great experience here. We went with their suggestion of 10 dishes and added a couple late ones and were well fed. The quality of food was excellent and well prepared. Their grilled octopus was the best I have ever had! Highly recommend it! It was a nice evening and ate indoors (in the large room) with the back garage type door fully opened. A nice breeze came through making it feel al fresco. Lots of youth and all having a nice evening out (we were the oldest there, 50+). My family and I met here for a girls night out. (party of 8) My cousin is moving and we thought this would be a great restaurant to meet at. The food was really great, the wine selections were great and the atmosphere was nice. Our waitress was also super helpful and friendly and checked in on us alot. I would say its a reasonably/fair priced restaurant as well. Why do I give only 2 stars? We pay our bill and the ink barely even dries... and the hostess comes over to us and says... theres another party of 8 waiting to be seated and asked us to leave or go to a higher top table. A few of us awkwardly paused and shrugged and said we'd just leave. We all found this extremely rude. We just paid a $400 bill, ordered drinks, apps, main dishes, desserts, tipped well. It's highly inappropriate to ask us to leave/move especially because we literally JUST paid the bill minutes ago. Its not like we were there 2 hours after paying. Literally minutes. Also, if we would fit at the higher up table - why couldn't they seat the waiting-party there? why ask us to move? it was really rude and a complete turn off. On top of that when my cousin addressed it-- the hostess had the nerve to flip it on us and said "well u shrugged and agreed to get up": We are from NYC and this just would absolutely never happen. I want to emphasize that our waitress was great and so was the food/drink selection. But this really put a damper on our evening. We were cut short and my cousin is moving away across the country.. we were not ready to say goodbye.. Service makes or breaks the restaurant experience. Hoping something can be done to remedy this. So tempted to give 5 stars, but that would be injecting the joy of having Yelp and an iPhone. Also note that even when in a bit a of a rush, I still try to find something interesting, unique, etc. While on our way to NYC from Boston, we were looking for a place to grab a quick bite. Passing through New Haven, I fired up Yelp and did a search of restaurants in Norwalk. Scanned through a few places right off the highway (I-95) and found Barcelona. I noticed there were a few other locations along the route (Fairfield and Stamford) and did have a brief hesitation with the thought of chain restaurant. But after reading the reviews it seemed like a cool spot and we're big fans of tapas. We walked in and sat right down at the bar. Lively, softly lit atmosphere in a brick and dark wood bar and just enough Barcelona feel without trying too hard. The bartender immediately greeted us with menus and water. We ordered a glass of wine, a charcuteria plate of Manchengo, Drunken Goat and Jamon along with and Chicken Empanadas and Grilled Lamb Chops with Rocket and Remesco. Within minutes the food started coming along with an order of Albondigas (Meatballs in Tomato Sauce) from the kitchen. Everything was delicious and probably just a little more than necessary. With bellies full we were done and gone in less than an 60 minutes. Back in the car and 10 minutes down the road we both said, "How perfect was that?"
