Overall, I would probably come back, but if you're looking for a good traditional, Mexican meal... This will not be the place for you. If you're looking for a romantic spot for a date, this place will be great! The food was average. Definitely not bad, but it was much saltier than a lot of restaurants and was nothing super special. Like I said, not bad but average. The margaritas were very, very good, but the portions are extremely skimpy. Once you take out all of the ice, you probably have a half a cup of drink. Definitely a debate whether or not it's worth the price. Very good taste though. The ambience is fantastic. It's extremely beautiful and has a very unique and eclectic fancy Tex-Mex feel. They have very unique elements of Texas as well as Mexico built in to their structures and decor. Beautiful wall of candles and fireplaces. Make this a wonderful spot to take someone you love on a romantic date. The prices are very high. Everything is an up charge and everything is expensive. Be prepared to dish out a lot of money. My wife and I went and only got drinks and appetizers and we were already at $100... Without even getting an entrée or dessert. Again, if you're trying to impress someone on a fancy date, it's worth it... But for the average person, the prices will make it difficult. The service was super good. The people were very friendly and responsive to all of our needs. I very much enjoyed talking to them. In conclusion, I can only give full stars... Yelp does not allow half stars, but if I had to give this an honest rating, it would probably be at a 3 1/2 stars. I came to this restaurant when it first opened. I was excited to have a Mexican food restaurant in town. It wasn't what I had anticipated, and everything seemed to contain cactus. It's what I would call "shi shi Mexican." I didn't return for years. Last year my daughter said she and her boyfriend got amazing burgers from there. I went to pick one up for her one day and a basic burger was $25. So then I called the place "the home of the $25 burger" and had no desire to go back. When my daughter graduated high school, we were invited to join her friends and their mothers for a girls only celebratory dinner. Guess where they wanted to go... so of course we went. I noticed there wasn't as much cactus on the menu which was a step in the right direction. I had a chopped southwestern salad that was good. You had to pay for chips and salsa (whaaaat?). The service was ok. They didn't keep my water glass full and we didn't see them often. The bill was quite large despite my efforts to keep it reasonable. It's still shi shi Mexican/Latin fusion food. For instance they offer buffalo cauliflower tacos with shaved cabbage and avocado salsa. So if you're looking for a new flavor experience - come here. The food is unique and pretty on the plate. It has a nice outdoor seating area that is great in warmer months. You might like it. But this Texan girl prefers her Mexican authentic. read more

This place has a gorgeous sit-out area and a wide selection of cocktails. They are priced quite high but I think we knew what we are up for since this is a fine dining place. Please note, they have no beer on the tap though. The food had a good variety and was amazing. We ordered the chips and guac, they had about four different varieties of guac and all tasted amazing. The 2 of us got there early and although the place was all but empty, it took a waiter almost 15 minutes to get our drink order and another 10 minutes to bring it. The waiters certainly need training! It feels so haphazard. On another occasion , I sat at the bar waiting for a friend who was late showing up. This is beautiful spot to have a nice dinner! We ordered grilled octopus, chorizo quesadillas, shoshito peppers, shrimp, and calamari apps to share - everything was so good. The boys ordered their own dinners and the chicken fajitas got devoured as well as the paella. The mulled cucumber drink with Tito's was outstanding as well. Quattro leche cake (yes, quattro and not tres!) was so good and the perfect way to cap off a beautiful dinner. Lots of parking since it's in a strip mall, but it doesnt have a strip-mall vibe. We still couldn't hear each other because the music was insanely loud and was club like music. We asked the manager if they could turn it down, and she said no because they are known for their music. I probably wont come back here often just because it is a very pricey place - the cheapest cocktail was $13 I believe. What I like about Cactus Rose?- many things! I have been here a few times and always enjoy the food and drinks. Went for lunch this past Sunday and it reminded me I had not written a review of this place before. 1. First off, the layout of the restaurant is fun and offers a variety of seating options. My personal favorite are the high tables in the bar area which are great for couples or the outdoor covered patio area is very cool and have enjoyed when with larger groups. 2. The drinks are always fresh and balanced. I like sweeter drinks so tend to get their mango mojito or one of their specialty margaritas like the Cactus Rose (with muddled strawberries). My husband likes drinks less sweet and enjoys their caipirinha. 3. Service is always very friendly, attentive, and accommodating with drinks, water refills, and menu suggestions or substitutions. 4. Fourth and final- The food is great! I think what I appreciate most is they offer many lighter fare mexican options which is what I get most often. Stand out is the tuna tostada! I have also tried their corn chowder- definitely homemade and very balanced flavors, super good! They have a variety of good salads, vegetarian and other fish options too. Often their specials are worth getting. My husband just tried a special chorizo burrito with rice, black beans, avocado, corn, and cheese which was really good! Our waiter had actually recommended it and he was right, very tasty. Oh!....almost forgot- child friendly, has a kids menu. My youngest has always like their macaroni & cheese. We hesitated to try Cactus Rose after the 3.5 star average. However, we noticed that even the 1 star reviews commented that the food was good, so we decided to take our chances on the service. We're so glad we did! The service was very friendly and prompt. (Jeremy in particular was very nice.) The tequila selection was excellent! They had a whole display of lovely Clase Azul ceramic bottles. Yum! The food was very flavorful. At our table, we had guacamole as an appetizer and people ordered the BBQ salmon, the chicken enchiladas, and the kids tacos. All were excellent. This restaurant was such a pleasant surprise at the end of a shopping plaza. It must be family-owned because everyone is truly kind and the service is wonderful. I've been here a couple of times and it's always been a positive experience. This time we came for an early dinner on a Sunday and it was very quiet. My kids got the chicken tenders on the kids menu and they all said they were really good (clean plate club all around). My wife got the shrimp tacos and they were really good. I got the lobster enchiladas and they were also very good. I definitely recommend getting the Cuban mint martini. Oh, and the tortilla chips were some of the best I had. Definitely overpriced, but some dishes are true gems. Our go-to dishes are the guacamole fresco, gazpacho, ahi tuna tostada, goat cheese croquettes, quinoa salad, and zocolo corn. The ahi tuna tostada, in particular, is AMAZING! Other dishes we like are shoestring onion rings, truffle fries, shrimp al mojo, shishito peppers, crispy calamari, corn chowder, and empanadas ranchero are pretty good, but not quite staples for us. The dishes I would NOT recommend are the tortilla pizza and seared wild shrimp. The tortilla pizza is a tortilla with a tiny bit of marinara and cheese for $11. That's insane. It's the kind of dish you would make at home if your fridge is literally empty and you'r starving. It probably costs them 25 cents to make, so the price is insane. The wild shrimp doesn't taste bad, but it's very few shrimp for $14 and it's a little bland. Their drinks are amazing! I fave is the passion fruit mojito. It's a great local place for date night or when we crave those special dishes. read more

Also their mojitos are very good. They also do their drinks Virgin in case you don't want alcohol which is pretty nice. The Food was very well cooked and was out in a timely manner. Didn't have to wait that long to eat. For Dessert we got the Quattro leche which I like Because it was not too sweet so you can enjoyed with coconut flakes. Environment and place was great. Went there for Cinco de Mayo and it turned out to be a disappointment. Slow service. We almost left twice. First was when we waited more that 10 minutes for any server to come take a drink order. The second was having to wait another 15 minutes for a couple of drinks and chips, salsa and guacamole. Chips were stale. Salsa was more like a sauce. High marks for the guacamole. Entrees were room temp and got colder as we have to wait another 10 minutes for utensils and napkins. Enchiladas are no where near what's photographed on the web site. Small serving with very little tomatillo sauce, a spattering of pico de gallo and crema Fresca. Charging $25 for enchiladas is robbery. Hostess was very nice and was our server, but the server seemed unprepared and not trained very well to handle the volume of a busy night. There are better places. read more

If I were basing this review on the food alone then I would give 5 stars. Kudos to the chef(s) The food was great. It was the experience that will keep me from returning. 3 of us split 3 apps then had a salad each: Coconut Shrimp, Grilled artichoke hearts and a special app with lobster and avocado for apps and 3 specials salads, 2 with seared tuna and one cesar. A bit pricey but worth every bite (and I think everything is pricey now). Drinks were OK. The reason for 2 stars is that we were hounded about ordering our drinks the SECOND out butts hit the seats. We were celebrating our last day of teaching school so we had a lot to catch up on. We ordered drinks (after being asked 3x in10 minutes). We got our drinks and were catching some more while perusing the menus and were hounded again 2x to order our meal (meanwhile we were each sitting there drinking our $15 drinks=$45 for 3 drinks) Then the Host/Maitre'd had the AUDACITY to approach our table to say "Ladies, you really need to put in your orders because we have other people that will want to use these tables..." Meanwhile, half of the tables were empty and there wasn't anyone waiting (we were sitting outside on the covered terrrace and there was a huge thunder storm. That's when we should have left to go to Bianco Rosso (where you would never get that kind of service) I will not return and neither with the other two ladies that I was with. I am 100% certain that if we were three men sitting there, they would not have said a word to us! read more

We were a group of 6 and we were ready to try the drinks- my favorite was the prickly pear margarita! We ordered A LOT of appetizers for the table and my favorites were the figs and the octopus! Absolutely delicious. Extremely friendly wait staff! The owner, Maria, is kind and even delivered our group a special shot to celebrate the night, on the house. We had several desserts and the crepe with Nutella was amazing! You literally can't go wrong with any of the apps. We went so heavy on apps that we did not need to order an actual dinner- but we did try almost every app on the menu.... so that was fun! Apps are always the best part of my meal anyway. Food was very good except and great atmosphere. The one very serious complaint I have is that the staff does not take shellfish or gluten allergies seriously. Staff was told there was gluten allergies and not to bring bun or coated onions on burger. The waitstaff never thought to say there is a flour coating on French fries. The restaurant uses the same fryer for shellfish and all foods- including homemade taco shells. There is no where on the menu that about this. When suggesting to have separate fryers this day in age, the manager said there was no room. Fryers do not have to be side by side but I guess that safety is not an issue. Corn shells should be something safe to eat but I guess not there as well as French fries with a gluten coating and fried in shellfish oil. Sadly, I will not be back due to non allergen precautions taken. read more
