One of mine and my families favorite place to eat. I have never waited to be seated heck we barely have to wait on food it's like they know what we are gonna order before we sit down because as soon as you order it it's on the table 5 minutes later hot and fresh. The staff is some of the nicest people and the hardest workers. They are coming by the table consistently checking on us never letting a drink run dry. Super disappointed... been to another location and it was yummy.... paid $15 for a taco salad and it was horrible... asked for water 3 times never got it... Fatima needs to go through training again... The only reason I gave 2 stars is that their flautas are actually quite delicious as well as the hot green salsa. Other than that there was hardly any fajita meat on the $15 taco salad and the meat was flavorless that was on it. And the queso at $8 seriously folks you can make that at home and have a pot of it for what they charge for a roughly 4oz cup. We were asked smoking or non but weren't offered an ash tray in the smoking section. We arrived around 9pm with an hour of operation left and were treated like they were ready to leave. Bottom line is they're way over priced for what you get!! Go to Lunas or LA frontera! Way better food way better priced!!! Service also is way better at those 2 establishments!!! Found this lovely place on the way to the beach in a random plaza but the food is not random it's EXTRAORDINARY The inside is so colorful and the staff is so nice and lovely. Food was 10/10 can't complain. This place needs more recognition! read more

I have been craving Mexican for daaaays and with extensive googling for good ol' Mexican near me, I found this place. It's tucked in a small shopping centre that no one ever seems to go to, but it's nice that way since it's not crowded. We were immediately served complimentary chips and 2 kinds of salsa--warm and crispy chips and amaazing green sauce. We had two servings of it. I went for the los campanitas--deep fried bell pepper, stuffed and with delicious melted cheese. Our waiter, Lalo, was very attentive. He mentioned it came with ground beef, "but you can change it to shrimp, chicken", which I didn't know and couldn't have because I'm a pescetarian AND by the grace of my awesome genetic make up; allergic to shrimp. I asked if grilled vegetables were available, and he said yes. Free of charge! It came with their flour tortillas, beans and rice. The whole dish was delicious. I'd love to come back for it. My sister had the shrimp enchiladas--3 pieces with rice and shrimp. She devoured it. My brother had the Taxco dinner special. That thing can feed one very hungry man or 2 people that aren't too hungry. It came with 2 cheese enchiladas, beans, rice, a chicken taco, and a chicken tostada. My brother is known for his eating skills but he still had food to take home. The cheese and sauce the enchiladas were drenched in was mouthwatering. My dad had the menudo. They compared it to a famous Mexican resto in Galveston and they said they could beat it. Plenty of meat in the menudo. My mom had the cochinita pibil. Lalo described it as a Mexican version of a pulled pork taco. It came with a very spicy onion mix that my mom really liked. The attendants in Barcenas are very attentive and helpful. Our water glasses were always filled. If you're looking for a treat-yourself kinda meal, do go to Barcenas. The menu is extensive, the prices are great, and the people are friendly. And most of all, the food is delicious. read more

I've taken the family here numerous times and we always have a good experience. Prices aren't bad and I don't think we've ever had a complaint about the food. The only downside is the service is very hit and miss. Staff is usually great but sometimes we will get a waiter/waitress that is just terrible. Slow on refills, doesn't notice when we're out of chips and salsa, and just overall slow. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good local Mexican restaurant. read more

COLD BEER ON TAP...... let me start with that. They have a wide variety of margaritas and usually pack in a lively crowd for dinner. The hostesses and the waitstaff are always pleasant and never in a bad mood. The food is reasonably priced and the fajita meat is mmm mmm good. Now, that's on the non smoking side where the restaurant portion is. If you venture into the bar area, it is also lively- and VERY Smoky. Great COVID procedures! Felt completely safe. Staff is always friendly, everyone works together and is always attentive. My daughter got chilli in her eye and was in pain. I would give this place 5 stars but sometimes they can be to extra. Every three minutes, everything ok, did you need anything, can I help you. Of course you want that love. But sometimes it's an over kill. The food is great. Happy hour margaritas M-Th are good. There is this one guy who acts like he can't properly ask if you need assistance. They way he talks. Instead of saying would you like anything else. He says you gon want something else? It's how you say it. Other than that I recommend this space. My wife and I ate here this past Saturday for lunch. They had customers but were not too busy. The service was fine. She had a combination plate with a taco, enchilada, and tamale and I had the enchilada's suiza. The issue was, nothing had much flavor. Not the rice, charro beans, or either of our entrees. In fact the item with the most flavor was the guacamole appetizer. The meal wasn't "bad" per se it just wasn't...very good. There are much better options in the area. We ordered a chile con queso for the table and were impressed with this as well. For seasoned menudo consumers, you know you don't order menudo just anywhere. This menudo was to die for. Yum!! My daughter and I had chicken fajitas and my husband and son both had a steak dish (I can't remember the name of it!) with a Mexican sauce. Both were excellent, the meat was super tender. Stopped by here with three kids and a hungry boyfriend in tow after escaping the crowds of downtown Galveston. It was midday of a weekday, and this is in an unassuming location, so when we pulled up and got a look at it we started having second thoughts. Shouldn't have -- this place ended up being a fantastic part of our spring break! Troy served us and he was outgoing and super attentive. We have two picky eaters in our group and one of them asked if we could come back. When I told him we were hours away from home, he said, "I don't care, this is really good!" This is a kid that likes one out of every 10 meals, so for him to say that just wowed me. We got mini changas for an appetizer, I had myself a yummy frozen strawberry margarita, and we actually really enjoyed the outdoor seating area (we had a small dog traveling with us and were really grateful to be able to keep an eye on her while we ate). Not a luxury spot by any means, but definitely not fast food fare either. Just great, down home family Tex max food with something to please everyone. The last time my daughter and I went there, there was a roach in her drink. We told them about it and all they did was give a free piece of tres leche cake. WTF??? They apologized but i would have appreciated if they would have taken that off our order, better yet, give us the whole meal for free. That to me would have made it right. No. Just no. My mom came to visit and this place was close by. I love nachos and couldn't wait to try my sister's. I took one bite and put the chip right back on her plate. We told the waiter we didn't like them and he was very polite to ask if we wanted a replacement, as well as the manager. However, based on all three of our plates, mine a combination plate and mom the spinach quesadillas, there was nothing we wanted at all. The positive was they were great at refilling our water and both the waiter and the manager were very polite and didn't charge us for the nachos. However, we will not be back. :( read more

I'm surprised there are no reviews for this place, because it's been here a while. It's tucked away in the Gulfway Plaza Outlet Mall in La Marque, right off I45. They have a pretty diverse menu, a mix between Tex-Mex and Interior Mexican. I had a grilled quarter chicken and onions (on the comal) and a beef taco, and both were good. I intend to come back and try more items on the menu. Service was good too. read more

We ate here after leaving a place on the island. We were craving Mexican food and were not let down by this place. The staff was very friendly even though we had a super grouchy 18 month old. My husband had the taco trio he said it was delicious and had great flavor. I had the enchilada again very delicious. I got the sour cream sauce which was green and it was amazing. My daughter had the shrimp quesadilla and she to said they were amazing. We will definitely be back!!!! read more

Service was good. Food was bland and could have been warmer. I had the Texco plate. The rice and beans lacked flavor and were luke warm at best. The chicken in the taco and chalupa was stringy, like pulled pork. The chalupa was also covered in 6in of lettuce. Nothing was terrible it was just average Tex-Mex.
