But I ordered a Salty Dog drink, they charged me $3.00 for the salt around the top of the glass, $6.00 dollars for the grapefruit juice, in addition to the $9.00 for the vodka !! $18.00 drink !! Never ever been charged for salt and the mix extra in my life. they tried to hide it in the charge for the drink. I'll tell everyone I know to watch their charges there. Short version: Hostess area on the ball and had a system, the atmosphere vibrant, the food was tasty, prime rib and bone in rib eye were not available at 7:00 PM, they missed the small service details you expect at a higher end steak house. Long version: It has been nearly a year since we have been at Bare Bones (Sorry with a large group (8) and forgot about pics.) We sat upstairs and the place was already packed at 7:00 pm on (labor day weeked) Sunday night. The hostess got us to the second floor quickly, where another person was waiting for us and took us to our table. This is/was a well thought out hand-off system. Our waiter had already taken drink orders so we ordered drinks. They were already out of prime rib and bone in rib eyes. We ordered salads, I had the wedge she had the Georgia mix. Both were tasty, but no pepper offered on delivery, and we had to work at getting someone over to our table to get pepper. No one in this dining area seemed to be on the lookout for someone obviously trying to get their attention. This and some entree misteps cost them a star on this visit. Once she got pepper, the salads were good. For our entree, I ordered the sea bass, with collard greens and a baked potato, and she ordered the salmon with greenbeans and mashed potatoes. Our fish was perfect, and all the sides had great flavors. The collard greens likely would have been better with a touch of hot sauce but not offered up at serving time. Once the severs walked away from the table, they disappeared again. For dessert, we had the flourless brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and it was tasty. Once dessert arrived, we had to ask for spoons. It seems like the small things got missed tonight. Our waiter was friendly but some details were missed throughout the night. It's not terrible, but you go out for great service at a high-end steak house. So you may ask, why not order steak at a steak house? We love the prime filet, and they had 8oz several years back, now only 12 oz, which is too much for one of us and not enough for two of us. Our server, Aaron, was amazing. He greeted, smile, and was patient with us. He explained the menu and specials well too. The tomahawk steak hit right on point for my father. Bare Bones steaks, sides and appetizers are always excellent at a fair price point. Make sure you call and set up a reservation because they are often booked. If you have 3 or more people make sure you ask for a bigger booth. Their smaller booth is a bit tight qhen you have 3 or more people joining you for a meal. Their staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, never had had any issues. Their onion rings, carrot souffle and Mc&Cheese are EXCELLENT and should be ordered every time you're there. I've never been upstairs but I've heard they still have the original basketball floors from a very long time ago (like the 30s or 40s!!). I just came from the Château Elan with some friends and we wanted a good steak. We had onion rings and shrimp for appetizer which was good. I had a prime filet, green beans and mashed potatoes. I understand it was more wood fired but I didn't like the steak AT ALL. The green beans had little to no flavor the only thing was good on my meal was the mashed potatoes. I had a white sangria which wasn't the best tasted more like watered down fruit juice. Our waitress, Madison although nice, she seemed either nervous or overwhelmed, she spilled something in my mashed potatoes while I was eating. She offered to bring me more but I was midway through my meal and already didn't like it. The kicker that annoyed me is that I actually had to ask her to remove it as I didn't get to finish and didn't think that was something I should have had to ask. Birthday dinner for me, we made a reservation for 6:45 on a Wed, they had our table number already on the res and seated us immediately. As others have pointed out the seats in the booth are too short and lacking leg room which makes for an uncomfy long meal that you definitely want to linger over. We came on a whim for my husbands birthday and I'm glad we did. It had been years since we'd been here because of an unpleasant experience but boy am I glad we came back. Love this place!!! Patty of 16 celebrating my 14 year old niece's birthday. Her taste for her birthday shenanigans definitely are aligned with her taste! I was starving when we got there. 4 tomatoes and cones with 4 pieces of fried okra as well. Of all the food I had, this was my least favorite. Lacked flavor on the tomatoes as well as the breading. I tend to be picky about foods I can make really well. The spicy mayo they gave us was the star of the show. Portobello Prime Filet - 12oz and comes wrapped in bacon, on a large portobello mushroom topped with blue cheese crumbles and shrimp skewers. I ordered medium rare and it was cooked to absolute perfection!! The steak could have stood alone without all if the toppings but everything all together was phenomenal. (I had leftovers and I will say that the texture of the steak wasn't the same the next day.) You can order individual sides or shareable sizes. Grits - Can't lie, I was hesitant to order because I'm a southern girl who can cook grits. They were good!! Thick, yet creamy. Tasted like they maybe added cream cheese but they were seasoned very well! They were out of mashed sweet potatoes but had sautéed carrots, which wasn't on the menu. It was soo good! This is one of those dishes that I've been telling my mom that she needs to try and make. Do yourself a favor and order it! You can choose if you want marshmallows on top or not. We had a reservation for 6 people for our monthly friend dinner. Dinner was decent; I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back but I also wouldn't be opposed if my friends wanted to come eat here again. Ambience - More casual, laid back feel. I noticed there was a 2-top table in an old elevator and that was pretty cool. I wore a button-down collared shirt and dark jeans and didn't feel under-dressed. I personally like booths because they feel more private and intimate, but it was a little too cozy for our party of 6 people. Would be more comfortable if the booths were not so close to the dining table, but I understand from a business perspective the need to maximize the number of available seating. Cocktails were great! I got the cranberry mule, and it had a good amount of alcohol in it and festive, holiday flavors. Not sure if this is a seasonal or permanent cocktail on the menu, but it was so refreshing and fun. Delicious. 3 people at our table got the cocktail that had jalapeno tequila in it; you can smell the jalapeno as the drinks were being placed on the table, and it was also pretty good. 2 people got the eggnog cocktail, and it was a very alcohol-forward, boozy-tasting beverage; they both liked it. Espresso martini had one of the beans cut in and angled in a way where it looked like the drink was smiling at you, which was cute. Tasted pretty good as well. Apps were ok. The fried onion rings were good. The touch of honey was lovely. If I had one critique for this dish, it would be that it was a little on the greasy side. It tasted almost like the chef didn't give the fried onions a hard enough shake to get rid of most of the oil as they were coming out of the fryer. I think this dish would be phenomenal if more of the oil got drained off. The fried pickles were spears. Good batter, but I think I prefer pickle slices instead of spears. The sauces were good. I got the prime ribeye. Good wood-fired flavor and lovely crust on the outside. Unfortunately, it came out medium instead of the medium-rare I ordered, which was a shame. Several of our group commented the temperatures on their steaks were also a little off. A filet mignon was requested medium rare and came out more rare; this cut of steak is notoriously difficult to cook due to the low fat content, but I'd much rather have a steak come out under than over like mine was. The salt level was a bit on the heavy-handed side. A second prime ribeye was requested medium rare and also came out medium. The NY strip was cooked to the correct temperature. The Chilean sea bass portion was generous and cooked well. Steak portions were generous, but it would probably be nice to have the option to order smaller sizes of the same cut. For example, having the option to order a smaller portion than a 16 oz. prime ribeye; I had leftovers that I made into steak and eggs the next morning for breakfast, so I'm not super upset about it. Sides - Since we had a large dining party, we were able to try multiple sides. The asparagus was cooked perfectly. Sweet potato souffle was good but a tad too sweet. Green beans were cooked southern style with pork; the green beans had an almost canned, soggy texture with not a lot of pork flavor, which was a bit disappointing. The garlic mashed potatoes were a little too salty. Dessert - We ordered the flourless chocolate brownie topped with brown sugar ice cream. This dessert was delicious - tasted like dark chocolate, rich and unctuous, but not overly sweet or heavy. Perfect. I ordered my usual after-dinner coffee for heavy meals, and the coffee was nice and smooth, not too acidic. It paired well with the brownie. My suggestions for the coffee would be to include a natural, brown sugar option among the different sweeteners offered and a stirring spoon (maybe it was accidentally left off?). I ended up stirring my coffee with a clean knife that I had on the table. Service was pretty good. Our waiter came in and checked on us several times, which was appreciated because some of the food took a little time to come out. Most of his recommendations were good including the red wine that a couple of us had ordered to go with our entrees, but these came out a bit after the steaks. We felt like the green beans were a miss, and it was sent back with our plates mostly uneaten. One of our diners commented on how he didn't really care much for our waiter's attempt to upsell the toppings with our entrees; he was asked if he wanted to add the lump crab meat and bearnaise sauce to his Chilean sea bass dish, which he declined, but he also commented on how another one of our dining mates was asked if he wanted to add a lobster tail to his steak. It's possible that's how our waiter prefers his own steak, and I do like knowing what options are available to me in case a combination sounds good that I haven't considered before. I wasn't overly bothered by it. There was no fuss about splitting the checks multiple ways, which was great. read more

Went with a large group, about 40 people. They sat us at 2 large tables that allowed us to sit on all 4 sides creating a more close environment. We had 1 server with several assistants and at least one of them was at the tables at all times. The host of this event ordered fried pickles, onion rings, shrimp cocktail and fried shrimp for each table. The only item that was not huge was the shrimp cocktail and this was still at capacity for the dish it was served on. The flavor of each app was over the top. To get a salad as a side is an upcharge here. It frustrates me sometimes that we have to pay extra to eat healthy but whatever. I chose the Chilean Sea Bass as my entree. This was an excellent choice, it was thick and cooked perfectly. I have found that any higher end steak house that serves this really knows how to do it and should be considered over the steaks. We were seated upstairs in the private dining area, however there were two other parties going on, and it was LOUD. Typical steak place with a variety of steak options, sea bass and salmon and chicken options for those who don't want red meat. I think the waitress was really scattered, but she had to be, because it seemed like she had to manage all three parties. It was my boyfriend's mom's big birthday dinner, and we were a table of 16. We got some appetizers, but I don't like most fried foods, so the only thing I tried was the spinach artichoke dip, which was too cold for my liking. Most people got steaks, but my boyfriend ordered the steak burger with green beans and mashed sweet potatoes. I got the chicken with mashed sweet potatoes and kale caesar. The salad was the best thing there. The kale was nice and soft, and not tart. The dressing was not heavy on the anchovies, and it was nice and creamy. They also use real parmesan, a must! The chicken was pretty moist, too. My boyfriend thought his burger was just "okay", and no one was exactly raving about their food. The mashed potatoes were okay, but I've had way better at other steakhouses. It's definitely not a place I'd likely return. The food was decent for me, less decent for my boyfriend, and service was just okay. The ambiance is nice. I loved the industrial feel of the restaurant. I was seated at a booth which was nice that I was dining alone. The waiter came by in seconds and took my drink order. I had not had time to even open the menu, so I did not order anything else yet. He came back with my drink and I had just started looking at the menu. I said I would like a wedge salad definitely, but was still working on the rest. A minute later, I ordered the prime ribeye. BTW, everything is a la carte so each item has an individual charge. The salad came out a couple minutes later. I actually wanted it with the steak as that was all I ordered, but it was there so okay. I started on the salad expecting that my steak would be brought out within a minute or two. I finished the salad and waited. And waited. And waited. The steak finally came out 20 minutes later!! Yes, it was literally over 20 minutes, I timed it because I was hungry. And even with how hungry I was, the steak was a total disappointment. I ordered a prime ribeye, and quite honestly, I've seen better choice strip steaks. The cut itself looked terrible. As far as the texture, I ordered it "rare enough that a good vet can resuscitate it", but it was closer to medium than rare. The waiter then told me they had to do a new steak because they burned it the first - which is also why it took forever. As an apology, they offered me a free dessert. I ordered the ganache with strawberry ice cream. I said I wanted to eat some of the dessert there, but would take the rest home. A little while later, a different server furtively put a bag with my dessert packed up on my table and left before I could say anything. Okay, I got the hint. I waited for my waiter to bring the check. And waited. And waited. I asked one of the other servers to ask my waiter for the check. A minute later, he came out - with my dessert in a dish and not packed up. The ganache was very good, and I wound up with 2 free desserts, but quite honestly, it was not a good night. My waiter was good, but overall not good and he should not have to apologize for so much that went wrong everywhere else. TLDR: 1. Food quality was not where it should be for the price. I could have gone to Outback or Texas Roadhouse and had a similar steak for a lot less money. 2. The service was okay. Good but not great. 3. The ambiance was good, but I almost forgot.
