This was a shockingly terrible experience I wish I had read reviews before driving 30 minutes to eat here. I ordered the chicken kabob gyro and my husband had the California wrap but they ran out of wraps so it was made on bread. It took a very long time to come out and each meal came with cold fries. The chicken on my gyro was cooked so much that I would compare it to jerky. It was like it had been microwaved 6 times or sat out for multiple days. My husband did not enjoy his extremely small sandwich that had barely anything on it and we were charged $38 for just those 2 sandwiches no drinks or anything. Such a great concept and filling a long overdue niche. Nice interior comfortable and very friendly and accommodating staff. Now for the good. Well everything looks beautiful and enticing. The basic salads and eggs , avocado etc are fine. The French fries great as no worries of cross contamination but the pastries another story. Tried a few. The black and white well presented was rubber and no flavor. The cupcakes ehh , box cakes like simple mills far better. The cigar just ok nothing to go back for and same for linzer tart which had a little flavor but a little rubbery and soggy. So disappointed!! There are some not Gluten free bakeries that do an Awesome job at gluten free , dairy free even though perhaps only an offer or two. I just don't get it. Ever since this place moved to it's new location (one door down), it has been in disarray! There is no menu posted in the store anywhere. You have to pick up their paper menu printed in tiny font, which has minimal descriptions and requires you to ask tons of questions (e.g., does the bagel with lox include onion and tomato? The young girl who helped me was very patience and sweet while I picked what I thought my friend may like. I called around looking for someone who could make me a gluten free and dairy free birthday cake for my Birthday, which is today by the way. This bakery made me a triple layer chocolate sponge cake, with vanilla custard layered with bananas, chocolate custard, and chocolate ganache frosting. It was great! Also, there is an entire case of gluten free and dairy free cookies and cakes, including brownies and coffee cake. They also have different kinds of gluten free bagels and loads of gluten free bread for sale. For breakfast before we head out, my family stopped by the bakery and had coffee, coffee cake, and egg sandwiches on their gluten and dairy free bagels. I suggest that you come here. Not many people know about this place. It's not a place where you sit down and have breakfast, but more like a place where you sit down for 15 minutes at one of their small tables and grab a sandwich or a piece of cake with some of their coffee. Got a mini vegan strawberry cake that looked beautiful but the taste wasn't quite what I was hoping for. The cake was a strawberry flavor and was very dense. Now this could be what vegan cake consistency is like, I'm new to vegan baked goods (became dairy intolerant recently, so was looking for a dairy-free cake/frosting). The frosting consistency on the outside was similar to butter frosting, but the frosting in the middle of the cake was very liquidy and extremely sweet. Again, perhaps just my taste buds, which don't like super sweet stuff. First, let me start by saying I am a restaurant owner (and avid gf baker) and understand what yelp reviews mean to a business, but also feel that a truthful review should help perspective customers... good or bad. I've been gluten free for well over 10 years and in that time, my family and I (who are all GF) , have travelled all over the United States to explore and try the various GF Bakeries that we are lucky to get to. At one time, a few years ago, Bare Naked Bakery was one of the best we'd ever tried, before in my opinion, taking a big down turn in quality and taste. So, we were excited when Bare Buns opened next to our favorite burger place, Dirty Burger. What a disappointment. Not only is it lost in the back of a big parking lot that can't even be seen from the road, but it shares many of the bad characteristics of Bare Naked. The decor, although meant to be warm and inviting, feels cluttered and not inviting. Maybe a bigger disappointment, when we visited, like it's sister store, was dirty. Again, as a restaurant owner, I take notice in cleanliness, maybe more then others. As we do with all gf bakeries we try, we as a family sampled almost one of everything they offer. DISAPPOINTED!!!! There was not one thing we sampled that any of us would actually want to purchase again. Not one!! In our opinion, most were simply lacking flavor! Plain and simple. I will say this, the cakes which we actually didn't try, were decorated beautifully. Credit to the cake decorators. No credit to the bakers/recipe makers. In this day and age, for anyone who doesn't know, just because it is Gluten Free, there is NO REASON whatsoever to sacrifice taste. Apparently the owner hasn't learned that. You should never have to say... it was good, "for gluten free" It should just be good... and this was not. It's a shame, because there is clearly a needed market for more GF bakeries and Plainview lost one of the best I've ever tried, Jac's GF Bakery, a year or so ago. Since my wife went vegan we have been searching for a bakery with vegan/gluten free options that actually have taste. We have now had several items here and enjoyed very much. This includes the chocolate cigar, cookie-wich, cookie cake, linzer tart, and grilled cheese. The only dessert that could of been tastier was the chocolate babka (a little dry). While we have not tried everything in the store it would be appealing to see some special or additional items sprinkled in occasionally. That said we are very happy coming here. read more

I really wanted to like this place, really I did. If you are reading this review then you obviously know how hard it is to find gf or even vegan somewhat "fast" food or even food on the go. When I first discovered it about a year ago I swear there were different owners, ones who paid closer attention to detail. Since not seeing them, I have seen the quality of the food take a huge dive. Ive been served food cold (as in still somewhat frozen), burnt, completely wrong and finally the last straw, I had a hair in my burger. I tried contacting them to tell them about all of my experience. I called THREE times and left messages for the owners to get back to me and after a month, here I am writing a review. I ordered a cake for my son's four year old birthday, gave very explicit instructions and even sent photos from Pinterest (the owner asked me to do this). When I picked up the cake I was pretty astonished - honestly, I could have decorated it with more precision, not to mention I could not make out my son's name. The piping was terrible, and sloppy. The worst part was that I had to pay $10 over the regular decorating cost of $15. It looked like it had taken 5-10 minutes to do the pipe work. I Ironically, the owner had asked me to tell her early on what design we wanted so she could make sure the right person was there to do the decorating. On top of this, I was asked what I thought when I was shown the cake and I was honest and said I can't make out the writing - the response was - oh, yeah, it's in black. No apology, no nothing. Then she said, when do you need the cake for because we just took it out of the freezer. I didn't know it was standard practice to freeze cakes, and I would have appreciated knowing this ahead of time so it would have been thawed out more. This is the last time I get a cake from Bare Buns. Next time I will save myself the hassle and bake it myself. Very disappointed. read more

In love with their bagels! Best I've ever had- it was so exciting to see good food that was also gluten free. I got a carrot cake for Easter which was also really tasty. My family didn't even know it was gluten free! I also frequently get their loaves of bread- lots of delicious flavors. My boyfriend is a fan too, even though he is an avid gluten-lover. I've had their coffee cake, cake balls, and some other treats, and although they tasted good, they are very pricey. Staff are nice for the most part. We ordered 2 vegan sandwiches and asked specifically if they have the ingredients for them as in the past they had run out of or couldn't get one of them. We were assured they had all the ingredients so we went ahead and put in our order. We took our purchase home and unwrapped the sandwiches. The first thing was there was no usual pickle, humus or carrot sticks but in their place was a cello bag of stale chips that were so hard I couldn't break them in half. Today I had their onion bagel with butter. It was unbelievably good. One of the problems with gluten free bagels is you have to toast them to come close to tasting like an actual bagel (which it never does) This bagel was not toasted , it was very fresh and the texture and consistency of the bread was like a regular bagel Chewy, it had nice bounce back when you bit into it. I visited this bakery a couple times when I am visiting Long Island and have tried their online orders. The bagels are tasty and finding a place that caters to dietary restrictions is like an oasis in a dessert. Unfortunately, this place needs a feature on Kitchen Nightmares. Much like their cannolis that sat filled going stale on the counter, so echoes their management style. Whoever is in charge gives the impression they do not want to be there anymore and it trickles down to everyone involved. Their quality control is terrible. The first time I had their linzer cookies they were delicious. The second time they sold me very burnt, stale cookies that were impossible to chew. I was so disappointed I will never buy them again. Nothing burnt and edible should ever be sold to anyone, anywhere, but especially gluten free. I had a customer service issue after ordering bagels online. They were not eager to listen to the issue at all, return any of my calls or emails, or make an effort to maintain my business. Especially when the issue was an error on their end with their online ordering system. I was charged a very high price for fast shipping on their bagels and they were shipped free ground and arrived moldy. It was a huge hassle for me to resolve and they offered no compensation whatsoever. Perhaps they feel since they are providing such a niche service and have been in business so long they have grown confident and comfortable they will retain their customer base. When I finally got in touch with them I was treated with confusion, rudeness and hostility. Their website needs an overhaul, on top of the design itself looking outdated, their product descriptions contain misleading information such as advertising their BAGELS ARE VEGAN AND CONTAIN EGG WHITES, which makes me question whether all their products are what they claim to be and are actually safe. While you can go here and have a random good experience and enjoy some delicious bagels, or whatever item might be lucky to taste fresh that day, it feels like they are heading for disaster in the long run and will struggle to maintain new long-term customers unless they make some radical changes. Perhaps they need to see what a positive place a thriving gluten free bakery really can be because there are some amazing places out there that are so delicious they cater to the general public, take pride in their food, and even make their customers lives better. I know they won't care about this review from another dissatisfied customer because that isn't their style, but I hope if you are thinking of going to this place you are not fooled like I was initially by my first few oddly pleasant experiences because at the end of the day this business is very unprofessional and has lot of room for improvement.
