Good ol' Bareburger did not let me down. I was thrilled to find out there is a Bareburger here after searching Yelp for a good takeout spot after a long, busy, no-lunch kind of day. I easily placed my usual order via the link on Yelp and by the time I arrived, it was ready to go! The site told me it would be 30 minutes, so I arrived ready for a wait, but the drive took a mere 10minutes and I was in and out with a smile from the host! Reheated in the toaster when I got home and everything tasted perfect as usual. My awesome 'be my burger' order in case you're wondering is: beef patty on collard green wrap with dill pickles, mushrooms, ketchup, and mayo with a side of the best dang sweet fries. Food was very good unfortunately the service made it bad. Out with another couple and the restaurant was very busy but a very short wait. Apps came two different times (one when the entrees came) each weren't hot. The burgers were awesome but would have been better if they were hot. Unfortunately the reason the food came out not as hot was the service. Our waiter couldn't have cared less about our dining experience. Didn't introduce himself, didn't tell the specials, didn't even ask what we wanted to drink, Zero personality. Overall, decent food. Piss-poor service. If you have 2 hours for a mediocre lunch. By all means! We arrived shortly after the lunch rush on a weekday. Not what I would call peak service time. The restaurant was about half full. We ordered to salads that took 30 minutes to arrive. No one checked in on our table and we had to get up and find someone to check on our order. The waiter and manager came over separately to inform us that a large party slowed down the kitchen. At that point, we were hungry but understanding. The food arrived as expected, nothing amazing but decent enough for a quick lunch. We then waited another 10 minutes after finishing our meal to get the check. Plus an additional 10 for it to come back to sign. When we talked to the host about our experience, he argued with us over why we had to wait. We were told it was "a first come, first served" type of place. We payed, left, and will not be returning. read more

We had lunch here on a Saturday. Nice atmosphere, not super crowded. You can't fault the menu - organic beef, local offerings, etc. But today was not there day. I ordered the "Standard" thinking it would be a good measuring stick. It, however, was a failure. Over cooked and nothing really to it other than a patty and cheese on a bun. We went during the Arnold Classic 2018. There were 15 of us, we were seated at different tables and received our food after about 2 hrs with no update on order or what was taking so long. After a convention, my group of three people decided to go to Bareburger. After five minutes of seeing no staff to seat us, someone finally came around the corner and easily gave us a table since there were only four other tables taken. Ten minutes later our water was given to us and our order was taken, we all three got a different kind of burger and fries as a side since they were not included. We had chosen to go there because we were hungry and not many other people were there. It took us an hour and a half to get our food. And that's when I compared it to a message I sent AFTER we ordered since I was discussing it with a friend who had wanted to go. Find somewhere else for a burger. Whether they recently changed management or they have a new chef, in one night Bareburger went from my favorite restaurant in the city that I visit frequently, to a place I will never return. We were first greeted with a changed menu that removed all the great dishes that kept us coming back to this place. They removed all the unique items and replaced them with more generic ones. Okay, whatever, I can get past that. It's the same place with great food, right? The appetizers came out, ehh, they were okay, not great. Maybe it was just a one off situation. Then our burgers came. All 3 of us ordered RARE burgers. When they came out, calling them "overdone" would be an understatement. They were grey with no pink. Im not the least bit picky, but they were inedible and we nicely sent all three back. They very quickly came back out a second time, and we were amazed to see that all three were equally overdone. Grey. No pink. Dry. The chef had SIX attempts at a somewhat rare burger and he couldn't. I can make a rare burger at home. It's one of the first proteins you learn to cook, and they couldn't. It was late and we were hungry so we ate, despite our clear frustration. They were horrible. And the "carmalized onions" they put on my burger was apple pie filling, not onions sautéed in butter. It was sickening. A joke. I don't know if I was more angry or sad that my favorite restaurant in the city gave me an experience like this. I enjoy Wendy's and McDonald's burgers far more than this. Our burgers were comped. We were given free burger coupons, but we will not be using them (unless we go to the other location which we didn't like the other time we were there). The waiting staff was amazing and I left a 40% tip after fearing sorry for coming off so snobby, but the burgers really were horrible. They can't help how incompetent the chef is. The beer was good too. Moral of the story, a once great restaurant of the city has failed in attempting to make unnecessary changes. I'm saddened that my Great Plains bison burger is a thing of the past and I will never have such a phenomenal bite again. But as they say, all good things come to an end. Bareburger came on a strong recommendation from some local friends while I was in town last weekend, and I was not only pleasantly surprised by the ambiance of the old Yankee Trader, but blown away by how tasty my burger was. I'm not typically one to rave about something as classic as a burger and fries, but after chatting briefly with the manager Erica I had an idea I was in for something special. The "Southern Caviar" burger had been recommended by my friends, and after confirming with Erica I took the plunge. The burger itself was incredible, cooked and seasoned well. I've had a lot of bison before, sometimes it can be pretty lean and dry, but this was outstanding, cooked medium rare to perfection. The bacon added a nice smoky flavor, and the pimento cheese spread on top was beyond tasty, adding a great bit of tang and creaminess. Flavors were excellently balanced, and before I knew it half the burger had been devoured. The sweet potato fries were also wonderful, light and crispy, not over-salted or greasy like some joints do it. No reason to screw up a good sweet potato! Perfect bit of sweetness to balance out the incredible amount of flavor the burger had going on, I might have been a little overwhelmed if I went with something more complex. The staff was really friendly as well, my waiter/bartender was definitely perky for a slow Sunday afternoon, and the whole place had a really chill, positive vibe going on. Wanted to try this new spot in Clintonville, so yes, we picked a Friday night. There was a 45 min wait and with no real waiting area as the cold sets in it gets a bit uncomfortable. We were told that everything in the kitchen was backed up due to a huge to-go order. We thought that was odd. There were quite a few unhappy guests expressing their...we'll, unhappiness. Luckily, for us, everyone gave up waiting so we got seated within 10 min. SCORE! We sat in the window enclosed space which is super cute, but I think they missed a few feet with the measurements as the booths are super tight and not real comfortable even for slim folks. We ordered immediately. Our server was cool and we liked her a lot. Grain bowl/ kale Caesar: perfect and yummy. Rings and fries with sauces: rings were crunchy and perfect. Fries were under done and not great for dipping. Tip: ask for fries a little done. Be a burger: make your own burger was not great. They say served Med. But it came overdone on the outside and mw on inside. We had a few bites and left it. We chalked it up to them trying to hurry orders to get back on track. I will tell you that this has quickly become one of our favorite places in town. If you consider the place for what it is - artisan, ethically sourced, high-end food with an urban, highly trendy setting, you can start to debunk some of the poor reviews here. Is it expensive? Yeah, kinda. But to come in here expecting mid-level pricing is missing the point of the whole experience. There is a world of difference between the quality of food and flavor of a Bareburger, and a $5 burger from Americana Restaurant X. In fact, there's really hardly a comparison to be made. For my money, I haven't had a better burger. Ever. I have had a few different things in several trips. Trending toward the veggie option - there is nothing better than the smokehouse portobello burger made with the quinoa patty. The flavor is out of this world. The smokehouse BBQ they use is absolutely legitimate. (And this coming from someone who grew up in the south). I've heard people fuss periodically that you have to buy fries as an add-on. Honestly? There is so much food that the fries are almost unnecessary. I've gotten them on several occasions, but have ended up boxing the majority of them up and carrying them home. If nothing else, you could absolutely get away with ordering fries and splitting them between two people. The sweet potato fries, by the way, are terrific. And then, the unexpected cherry on top: Bareburger features one of the best milkshakes I've ever had. I've actually gone into Bareburger just for milkshakes a couple of times after dinner elsewhere. Real ice cream, real ingredients. The vanilla shake is great, but the peanut butter shake is delectable. To sum up, if you're looking for a cheap burger and beverage, probably not your spot. There are a ton of places around Columbus that would fit that bill a lot better. Applebee's would be pleased to have you. But if you're searching for foodie-grade burgers that are ethically sourced, and a dining experience that feels like you've transported yourself to Chelsea, this is a great meal and evening out. Bareburger, the New York City export holding court in the old Yankee Trader Building, is a nexus of distinct bourgeois philosophies. An eddy of two contemporary currents, the rural free-range ethos of sustainability flowing into the urban gentrified trendiness. They specialize in gourmet, semi-exotic American fare that escapes the stale choices of the usual hackneyed bar and grill. More importantly, this grub is delicious and made with an eye towards natural healthiness. This was my second trip after being introduce to it at a Yelp event in which sliders, apps, and solid beer choices made the day. This occasion was to satisfy a growling stomach and a parch throat. The setting is small but open. They trade intimacy for communal conversation in the front as their seating there is at long tables. Cleverly, they make efficient use of space by varying the size of their booth-backs that line the southern wall; from short to large they step up in sequence front to back like a stairs. This keeps the front open and easily sunlit from the street side windows, while making more private booth in the back. The booth's are made by reused vinyl. The walls are lined with grey barn wood and rustic distressed fixings, recycled materials from fallen trees and destroyed buildings, follow throughs of its environmental philosophy. The paper products are mostly biodegradable. The ceiling clashes with the decor though, but that's ok; the white stucco moldings ( like the ones next door at Barleys) may be vintage to the old 1906 building. If so this shows they have a preservation conscientiousness as well as an environmental one. The food here is top notch. As anyone who has ever lived in the country like I have knows, free-range, grass fed beef is tastier than the mass processed goop that the chains serve. I could tell on first bite that this is truly free-range meat. It has that diverse flavorings throughout the meal that only natural feed beasts can produce. I choose bison well done, with bacon and toppings. With an order of fires and a couple glasses of North High brew my stomach and throat was satisfied. The bison was amazing. They also serve elk, beef, and duck bacon along with other dishes. Of course, the drawback with locally produced gourmet meals is the cost. It was near $20 for the fabulous burger; with fries, drinks, and tips, it ran the bill up to $30. It is worth it for a treat though, if you can spurge, it is not a rip-off. The bar here is also small, though has a wide selection of drinks. There is even mixed drinks here, a item not found in the NYC stores. ( Serendipitously, as I wrote this Columbus Underground came on a feed and announced a new Bareburger coming to Clintonville that will have a larger bar.) They serve great healthy food, in a great venue, and have a great environmental friendly operation. read more

I could not believe it when I heard about a gluten free AND vegan friendly burger place - this was something I had to see! So far I've been very happy with the food. I have the choice of GF bread or a lettuce wrap for my burger which is amazing. I've only done carryout orders and they are always SO busy that is it sometimes hard to reach them - but what would you expect from a new place? The staff makes up for it by being super nice. Are you kidding the folks at Bareburger went outta their way providing us with all different kinds of sliders and sauces and condiments along with French fries, sweet potato fries and onion rings. The service was spotty and the food was average at best. The fries came out cold and the bartender/server still charged me for them. Don't they know that just affects their tip?? It's their job to get food from the pass and he is so scatter brained he didn't remember. A bartender should remember your drink all night and this one couldn't even remember it from the time I ordered to the time he picked up the glass to put ice in it. My boyfriend had the Maui Wowi with elk and really liked it, but we didn't notice much difference in taste between the elk and beef patties. Get some of the extra sauces. They really make the meal. I got their blue bacon burger on brioche bun with elk meat (well done), country bacon fried onions, with the works and Wisconsin Amish blue crumbles. It was awesome. Sweet Potato fries were perfect. I had a nice time at Bareburger. My husband & I took our 6 year old granddaughter for dinner Sat. night because I wanted to check it out. We arrived about 7:00 after finding a spot at a meter out back. Our wait time was quoted as 25-30 minutes so we stood and waited while having a drink. A booth opened up after about 20 minutes and a lovely booth it was. Our server was very nice and efficient. The kids' menu had nice selections, including a black bean burger. My granddaughter chose the chicken strips, that come with carrots and apple slices, and one side (she chose fries) and drink (she chose the organic fruit punch). My husband had the California burger and fries (they are fresh-cut!). I had the Black Bean Vegan burger on a whole wheat bun with the fries. It was very good. I like that they also offer a quinoa burger. They offer several milkshakes that sounded good (Hot Honey) but maybe next time. It was a good meal, but it's not a place we will frequent because it is pricy. The fact that they service all organic food is fantastic, though. The menu is extensive. Keep in mind that everything is extra. The fries cost extra, and the dipping sauce, other than ketchup, is extra too. read more
