A little dinner before my first Columbus Crew game. Also first time, dining here. It was within walking distance to the stadium so we made reservations for an early dinner. None of us had ever had bison so we all got different bison dishes. I went for a bison blue salad. It was delicious. Everyone else at the table said thumbs up on their choice. The service was ok. Ketchup was brought out for one person but everyone had something that requested ketchup like onion rings, French fries, hamburger, etc. This simply meant we had to wait awhile to actually get to start into our food. Regardless, we still enjoyed our meal. Would I be back? I would come back here if there was an event downtown again, but I'm not sure I'd be back just come here as my destination for the evening. read more

We went on a weekday and had excellent service from Collin. He was attentive and genuinely kind, which made the experience even better. We ordered the BBQ burger and the bacon cheeseburger, and both were delicious! For dessert, we shared the brownie with ice cream, and it was so big we could barely finish it. I have dined at a few different Ted's locations in my travels and this one consistently provides one of the better experiences. Aside from the usual food fare, I especially enjoy the ambiance here. Dark and comfortable, a fine place for an intimate dinner or an after work gathering with colleagues. I enjoyed the bison meatloaf during my last visit, which was flavorful and filling. The lemonade here, by the way, is a delicious non-alcoholic option. Things to know: * This location is across the street from the arena making it a prime location when there is an event there or at the nearby stadium. * There is no street parking or parking lot. * Ted's is an easy walk from several downtown hotels. read more

My family and I were in town visiting the Cosi science center, and reason that this place was within walking distance. I've been a fan of Ted's Montana grow for many years, and in the past made a point of visiting wherever I could. Unfortunately over the years the experience has lost a step or two. On this particular occasion the server was terrific, and the wait time for our food was more than reasonable. What didn't go quite so well what's the preparation of my meal. I found that the ranch sauce prepared was a little too thick, and applied a little too heavily. I had thought it was going to be a more subtle application. I was delighted to learn that brussels sprouts were available as a side item, but unfortunately when they came out they were a little too undercooked. I certainly could have complained about this, and in hindsight I wish I had. The staff seemed very friendly and I'm sure they would have made things right. In the end I walked away full and that's what counted. Overall I'm not sure I would want to go back to this particular location, but then again maybe I will. read more

I went here before a CBJ game. We had a reservation but still waited 20 minutes for a table. Once sat, we waited another 7 minutes for our server to introduce herself. Service was extremely slow, it took forever to get a drink refill and the food's just ok. I understand they were busy, but it seems like they didn't plan for it, or maybe are low on staff? I'll give this another go when a game isn't going on. Super small in there, but cozy and promising. I had the bison burger of course and half and half for my side, which did like. Being not at all familiar with Ted's and not a big steak and potatoes type person, I had no expectations walking in. I was delighted and surprised at how much I enjoyed the experience, the food and drink, and the service. The Avalon burger was simply outstanding - it was the server's suggestion. The meat was perfectly cooked, and the combination of Gruyere, bacon, caramelized onions, garlic aioli, and arugula gave the dish such a distinctive and flavorful bite from beginning to end. I told several people over the following few days that the Avalon was the best burger I had eaten in a very long time. I paired it with not one, but two huckleberry mules because they were so delicious and different from a regular moscow mule. It was also one of the best cocktails I've had in a long time. But there are two small details that sent this meal experience over the edge: 1) being served a small dish of half sour pickles - my absolute favorite type of pickle - was a great sign of the meal to come; and 2) whoever thought of putting half fries/half onion rings on the menu is a genius. Why don't all restaurants do this? It solves the perennial conundrum of ordering fries or onion rings that I know I've experienced for a better part of my adult life. Not only was it a superb decision, but both were perfectly seasoned. I left the meal stuffed to the gills and still wanting more, which is the sign of a great restaurant! read more

I took my fiance here for his birthday last month. I had only been there one other time and I couldn't really remember my experience. I was very happy with the service we received, but the food was just okay. The pickles they brought out were absolutely terrible, almost repulsive. They tasted like just cucumbers with salt water. They don't have complimentary bread like other steak restaurants. We got steaks and mashed potatoes, and he got the brussels sprouts and I got the broccoli. My broccoli came out in a few giant pieces, the potatoes were cold, and the steak was undercooked in some spots and overcooked in others. Nothing was very seasoned, either. For the price of the steak, we were hoping it would be better. The room was very dark, but I could still see dust on the little table lamp. Overall, not impressed with my experience. read more

Great service and a warm welcome. We made reservations to celebrate a birthday and they were kind enough to remember and gave the birthday person a free dessert. We ordered the bison nachos. They were fully loaded and worth every bite. I ordered the bison ribs and so glad I did. It was the perfect choice. It came with buttered carrots. Well, I have to say I have mixed reviews but I still bumped it up to 4 stars. Overall everything was pretty good. I had the Ribeye (It was undercooked, however still good). The broccoli was very good. My son had chicken tenders and they were good. The Ambience was nice and I don't think the music was too loud at all. Wife and I had been here after Blue Jacket games twice before and enjoyed both. Recently, it's been next to impossible to get in, but this last time we literally got the last two seats in the house. Sadly, very disappointing. Had to ask after half an hour for the famous pickle chips, then suddenly the entire bar area realized they weren't offered any either. I feel like the choice of fancy burgers had dramatically shortended and quite frankly once served, both our burgers were terrible. When you pay nearly $20 for a burger, you expect something tremendous. Couldn't hardly taste the meat, just the toppings. I wouldn't be surprised if they were mixing the meat with some cheapy filler. But when I reached out to the email, it was returned as undeliverable. Then, I sent a message to the owner who commented, and I received NO response. THE FOOD WAS SPECTACULAR! BUT I can't help but talk about a few things that should be addressed. We Reserved a table for a Family of 5 maybe 4 days prior. We was put in the very back table, closest to restrooms and kitchen. Very noisy (but so was my daughter), and had a different kind of weird smell that you don't get walking in the front door. Our waiter didn't seem to be too involved and didn't wait very long for a response before leaving our table. There were flies or fruit flies all over the picture hanging over our table as well as the vents looked as if they Haven't been cleaned in over a year that was directly over our table as well. Stopped by Ted's Montana Grill before a Columbus Blue Jacket"s game and had a pleasant surprise. I haven't eaten at a Ted's Montana Grill in a long time and just fell back in love with this place. The service was fast, friendly and they did a great job explaining different items on the menu. I had the Avalon burger which was served with Gruyere, blue cheese, bacon-caramelized onions, roasted garlic aioli, and baby arugula. What a delicious combination of flavors on this juicy burger. Professional foodie tip: get the onion rings with these burgers and ask for extra garlic aioli to dip them in. Overall: great experience, great service, great food. Service gets a 2, food a 4. Let's start on the positive. Ordered a 1917 burger, or something like that. Beef, cheese, sautéed onions, mushrooms, and a shit ton of bacon. If it hadn't come to the table luke warm, it would have been a 5. However, I did ask for medium, and it came out well. Also had a side salad, that came out when the burger came out. Not happy with that. Service was really slow. Stood at the hostess counter for a few minutes before deciding to sit at the bar. Then watched the bartender run his ass off for 10 minutes before he could acknowledge our presence. After dinner, a bar back cleaned up our plates and asked if we needed anything else. I asked for the check, but she never bothered to tell the bartender. As we were leaving, a party of 10 was waiting to sit, which freaked out all the hired help. I visited this Ted's while in Columbus for a conference. I have been to a Ted's once before (in Colorado) so I made a reservation to avoid any wait. My co-worker and i arrived on time and we were promptly set. The restaurant was very busy. Our waitress was running all over and she was also tending to a small child who was seated by herself at a booth playing with toys (it seemed to be the waitresses child and she was waiting for someone to pick her up). We ordered drinks, placed our order and then ordered another round of drinks. While waiting for our drinks a man came and picked up the child. We hadn't seen our waitress in a while so we flagged down the manager and asked him if he'd retrieve our drinks from the bar (we could see that they were ready). He gladly did and apologized for us for the service. He said they were swamped as a result of the conference that was happening in Columbus. He said that they weren't expecting the crowd so they were struggling a bit. We told him it was no big deal and we were in no hurry. A while later, our food came out. My co-worker ordered a burger and he said it was amazing. I ordered a bison filet, and it was cooked well done and it was dry (i ordered it medium). After receiving our order, it took about 15 mins for our waitress to return. I showed her my steak and explained that it was overcooked. I then told her that i was still going to eat it since i didn't want to wait for another one to be prepared, but that i wanted to make her aware and show her before i ate it. she said she'd talk to her manager about it and that he may take something off our bill. A while later, she brought our bill and they ended up taking my steak off of the bill completely. I did appreciate that. I will go back to another Ted's and try to get the bison filet again and see how that goes. The first time i went to one, i got a burger and it was phenomenal. read more

Favorite burger I'm the city. I've been stopping by here for years. The seasoning and taste of the burgers is very good. People will think twice about bison. It's delicious. Not gamey at all. Walk in the door and a server is standing there smoking a vape. Not a great way to enter a restaurant at this level. Lemon drop martini is excellent, just on the verge of tart with large crystal sugar rim. Sitting here 7 minutes after dinner order went in with empty glasses. Bathrooms are filthy, you aren't busy tonight, put your staff to work cleaning the place and split the tips. Saw server sitting at the bar on her phone. Meanwhile we were waiting on drink refills and our salad, which of course came out the same time as our $41 steak. The blue cheese dressing was phenomenal. We brought our issues to the attention of the manager, which I hate to do but, at the price level they can't fix it if you don't open your mouth. He corrected he cooking on hubby's bison delmonico, unfortunately you can't correct the cook on an overcooked steak. 2nd time around was fantastic! He comped our steaks so for that I'm grateful. Not sure I'll return. At this price point I expected so much better. Server needs retrained, quit blaming others. The salad should have come out first, no excuses. I really wanted to like Ted's, but .. I just feel as though they may be a little past their prime, and there are so many different options nearby I could spend my money. I came in just before 6:00 on a weeknight and sat at the bar. It was myself and another table seated outside. I remained the only person at the bar the entirety of my visit. I can't really pass judgement on the vibes as I'm sure it's much more lively with a packed house on a weekend night. The bartender was very friendly and accommodating, however he was the only one handling wait duties so when two other tables were seated, things were slightly delayed. Again, no big deal as it was prior to dinner rush. The overall look of the restaurant is cool, I guess. I understand what they're going for. Somewhere in between steakhouse aesthetic and upscale burger joint - and when first introduced, I'm sure it was really something. It all felt a little dated, a lot of wood everywhere - maybe a little gimmicky. I like the overall theme but I think they may just need a facelift and / or provide some TLC to the finishings. I came in HUNGRY. So I ordered quite a bit. First up, I did a side wedge. The waiter asked if I would like bleu cheese dressing and bleu cheese crumbles. I'm a BC fan so I said yeah, sure. Traditionally, wedges are served with bleu cheese but that is all I could taste. The salad seemed pre made, which I could be wrong and I know that's standard at restaurants, but it was fairly bland and the lettuce didn't seem too fresh. Even the bacon had little flavor. Definitely not my favorite wedge. Side note! The bleu cheese crumbles were a $1 up charge. Not that I'm hurting for that buck, but the bartender didn't even mention that it would be an additional charge. Instead, I noticed it on the bill. It's fine, just think customers should be informed of any additional charges when they are offered. Next, the crab cake. Served warm with a large kale salad that had some sort of light vinegarette, topped with a corn like slaw. Also, a dollop of guacamole I believe? A lot of flavors going on here. The salad was huge, and kind of up staged the crab cake, which again, was somewhat bland. The salad was refreshing. I wasn't sure what to do with the guacamole so I ended up mixing everything together. Went with the 1977 America's Cup Bison Burger. Beef and bison are offered for every variety I believe. This burger costs $18.50 - it's a generous amount but still somewhat on the pricey side. It comes with a side and I decided to go with the half and half fries and onion rings. Which turned out to be a pile of fries and 3 total onion rings. So didn't really equate to 50/50 IMO. The fries were cold, needed salt and had no rigidity. Think floppy. The bartender recommended I order the burger medium, so I did yet there was no pink center. It tasted pretty delicious and would be the only reason I'd return to Ted's. With all of the toppings, the bottom bun did become soggy and split in half. Ted's is a great place to pop in for a quick beer and a burger. As for it being a sit down steakhouse for a fancier occasion, I think it may be stuck in the early 2000's and I would definitely head somewhere else with slightly more class. read more

This was our first visit here and we were super impressed. Our son was having practice over at the ice house across the street so we meandered over to Teds since it was the only place open in the area. We already had lunch before we left so this was our second lunch. The restaurant was decorated nicely for Christmas and our waiter/bartender greeted us and sat us as soon as we walked through the door. We ended up getting the salt and pepper onion rings which were hand breaded and seasoned perfectly. Seriously. Get the the onion rings. I got the dirty martini and I saw the bartender hand stuff my blue cheese olives. It was amazing and Adrienne's wine was also really good. The menu looks really nice and there is a ton of Bison items on there. We will definitely be back to try some more. Nice job! read more

First of all, understand that I love Ted's Montana Grill. I love sitting at the bar, kibitzing with the bartender, and getting attentive, one-on-one service. I love the food, especially the Bison burgers, which are incredibly tasty; the salt-and-pepper onion rings and fresh-cut french fries are amazing, and Karen's "Flying D" Bison Chili is the bomb. Being able to order the 50/50 fries and onion rings as a side is a treat (and for the same price as fries). Starting with a dish of homemade, sliced dill pickles signals you are on your way to having some great food. There is no freezer, frozen food, or microwaves - everything is always fresh. So, what's not love? Well, for one thing, the service can be slow, but what's new in the world of restaurants these days? I thought we would all get used to slow service after COVID-19 wreaked havoc on the restaurant industry and staffing. But maybe not. What everyone should understand is that short-staffing is a problem that isn't going away anytime soon, so we might as well accept it and deal with it. We hope that it will get better in the future. Slow service shouldn't ruin your dining experience - sit back, enjoy being with family and friends, and give the staff and management a break. They are probably trying as hard as possible to get the job done. Ted's in the Arena District and other restaurants and bars in the area are used to getting slammed during hockey games, baseball games, concerts, conventions, etc. But occasionally, they get slammed on what should be a slow night without any arena or convention center activities. Wednesday night, March 27th, was one of those nights. 6:00 was moderately busy for non-event Wednesday, but by 7:00, it was jam-packed with people waiting in line for a seat. There was no way the staff on hand could handle that rush, but that didn't stop them from trying. That night, we sat at the bar. At 6:00, the restaurant was moderately busy, and service was a little slow. When the slam hit, the staff was hustling, managers were working multiple stations, and everyone was pedaling as fast as they could, trying to keep their heads above water. The bartender was delivering drinks for the servers, and a server jumped behind the bar to help the bartender mix several drinks. Even the managers were jumping behind the bar and entering orders between expediting food in the kitchen. The kitchen staff was hustling, too - three cooks preparing dine-in meals and to-go orders. Our bartender, Jeff, looked at us wide-eyed and said, "We're not even remotely prepared for this." We stopped by the kitchen expo line at the end of the bar and told the cooks what a great job they were doing, making great burgers and food. That got a smile from the cooks and the managers that were expediting. We left a hefty tip for the bartender, hoping it would ease his pain and that he would be there the next time we visited Ted's. Next time you are at Ted's, or any other restaurant for that matter, and experience problems or slow service, stop and remind yourself that problems happen and you simply have to deal with them, hopefully in good spirits. Please don't be angry or rude to the staff; they will probably do their best with the available resources. If I wore a hat, I would take it off for the crew working at Ted's that night. They made a valiant effort under nearly impossible circumstances, and I applaud their effort. I'm assuming that many of the guests did not. So, next time you have a problem or slow service at a restaurant, relax, sit back, and enjoy the company you keep, some good food, and a cool brew. And remember, it's probably not the staff's fault. Please don't take it out on them. I'm still loving it - I hope you do too. read more

This Old West themed steakhouse has just about everything you could want: Beef, bison, burgers, steaks, chicken, seafood and a pretty impressive set of dessert offerings. Over the years, I've enjoyed many of their recommended dishes such as their Bison Burger, Red Rock Chicken Sandwich and their Pecan Crusted Trout. Lately though, I really haven't explored the menu all that much since one of their servers, Thomas, got me hooked on their Starter Menu. We're talking crab cakes and onion rings here folks. The St. Phillip's Island Crab Cake Starter is a flavorful hand-formed patty with succulent crab meat with just enough filler to hold it together. It's seared to that golden brown perfection and I got to tell you, it's delicious. It also comes with a small dab of tasty guacamole and a small yet interesting side of kale salad with a lemony vinaigrette dressing. For just $14, you've got a lighter enjoyable meal. For those wanting more, their dinner portion has 2 crab cakes for $28. Ordering from their starter menu leaves me room for their Salt and Pepper Onion Rings Starter ($4.50) with several rounds of real sweet onion encased in a crispy golden batter. It comes with a ramekin of tangy horseradish sauce. It compliments the rings just fine but then again, I wish they offered some chipotle sauce too. Just sayin'. All in all, it's pretty good here.
