Bari Foods is an excellent Italian spot. Their Italian sandwich is fire! Bread is toasty on the outside, but soft enough for a good chew on each bite. Distribution of veggies, meats, and cheeses are well balanced and fresh. Most Italian subs tend to err on the side of being overly seasoned or salty due to the usual cast of ingredients, but Bari did a fine job in balancing the flavors and saltiness in this sandwich. There is also a large selection of Italian products that are hard to find other places. I had no idea Marconi made so many different items until stopping in here. This place has all the food I crave for. I highly recommend trying this place especially those who really love Italian foods. They won't disappoint you guys, in fact, they will give your taste buds an awesome experience. Everything on the menu is worth a try! Prices are reasonable and serving is generous. I headed straight to the back and the deli guy told me to take my time. I ordered the Focaccia Italian Sub, it was made in about 5 minutes, paid the lady at the register and took this BEHEMOTH of a sandwich home. Firstly: this is enough food for a family of four maybe five not exaggerating. The meat and cheese were plentiful and the toppings were perfectly placed. Got a beef sandwich from here on my way to the airport and it was so good. Ordered it online first and it was ready when I arrived. I had told my husband I would save half for him but I regretted that meat was tender, juicy, flavorful, and plentiful. I had asked for peppers on the side, but I regretted that too. The peppers added some much nice acid and spice, and getting them on the side definitely did not provide enough for the whole sandwich. Went to Bari on a Sunday afternoon. The line was very long but the Italian sub was very much worth the wait. It is a small Italian grocery store and Deli- so the sandwiches are to go. It was very crowded and difficult to place an order. I recommend ordering ahead if going on the weekend. The bread was fresh, toppings tasty and the meat to bread ration was . I have a THING for real Italian delis. Used to go to one (Claro's, legit) almost weekly for about 5 years living in Orange County, CA. And on our last visit to NYC, Faicco's, a locally well-respected Italian market, was literally my favorite "restaurant" of our entire week there - so much so we made the effort to visit three separate times just to keep trying things. I love good deli sandwiches so so much. SO MUCH. And given the vibe of this one and the fact that it felt like a lot of locals like to eat there, I had high hopes. But man, this was really disappointing. The Italian had so little meat, cheese, or any semblance of flavor. The meatball sub was utterly lackluster, with tasteless meatballs and shockingly bland sauce (and very little of it). Italian sausage sub was better if only because the house sausage itself was good, but again, very bland sauce. No punch. No sweetness. I also bought a spinach arancini to eat later and it was suuuuper dry and crumbly. That is not how arancini should be. The staff was really nice and prices were okay. But I was truly hoping to get something very "Chicago" on this trip through the city (I am here a couple of times per year) and I thought Bari would fit the bill, as an "authentic Chicago deli," and it didn't come anywhere close. Loved this sandwich! Local grab and go spot with other homemade Italian dishes. Did go on a Monday during lunch time, but from ordering to leaving w/ sub in hand was around 5 minutes. We grabbed 2 9" subs, one italian & one turkey and cheese. One of these sizes is easily splittable, but nothing wrong for saving a half for the next day. This is my favorite sandwich shop in all of Chicago for a traditional hot fire sandwich. The prices are reasonable and the meat is fresh. It's a little bodega type experience and in the back they have a full deli. You can get some chips and some groceries too while you're at it. Even when there's a line I'm in and out of the store. Bread fresh from D'amatos, meats cheeses in house but the real game changer is that Giard. So insanely spicy but also flavorful. Got the Italian with habanero giard spread and it was a tantalizing experience. Had a coke on the side and I swear the sweats were real. If you want that old school spice + coke heater meal, search no further. Has some really neat items in the grocery on very part of the store like vodka sauce, tiramisu etc that seem heavenly as well. Will have to come back for a 2nd trip ASAP to get a picture. Update: Came for a 2nd trip and INHALED it before I could even take 1 picture. Im upset. I need another one. If you are curious, look at my review for D'amatos as the sandwiches look seriously identical given both use the same bread. The Italian is the sandwhich to get which has traditional Italian deli ingredients like Capicolla, salami, Mortadella, Provolone & Hot or Mild Giardiniera. I ask them to put oil and vinegar on as well and it is the perfect lunch sandwhich. The peppers add SO much flavor and the bread if fresh from D'amatos bakery right next door. This is a cute little Italian grocery with a deli in the back churning out delicious sandwiches! The staff is friendly, and the sandwich is huge even though I got the smallest size! Definitely 2 meals bc I'm completely stuffed after eating 1/2 of the 9in sub. The ratio of bread to filling was perfect, and the soft but not soggy bread was wonderful. Short and to the point review. I heard a coworker raving about their sandwiches and I stopped by! I got the Italian Sub (with all the other toppings) on Focaccia. DELICIOUS. I have had a few sandwiches on focaccia before and they were always half the loaf. They served the whole wheel of bread!! My sandwich was so big it was the size of a personal loaded pizza. Searched Yelp for "Italian Deli" as we were visiting my in-laws who tend to be more than authentic when it comes to Italian meats and cheeses. Needless to say, we/they were not disappointed. A small walk from the Morgan greenline stop, this little market had more than what I was expecting. Sliced to order meats, as well as sandwiches and ready to go options (including pasta, salads etc.). This seems to also be a corner store, with basic household needs as well as Italian imported brands of oil, vinegar, pasta, sauces, olives and jarred delicacies.
