I come to Barley House 2-3 times a month on Tuesday night for their trivia. I always have a great time with all of my friends. They have at least 20-30 beers on tap that are constantly rotating and a very large food menu. All of the food is excellent. I've gotten burgers, wraps, salads, soup, sandwiches, poke bowls, etc. It has all been very good. The bartenders are nice as well as all of the waitresses. Food usually comes out in a relatively quick manner and drinks don't typically take too long to get. The only complaint I have is that each beer is $5 or more for a pint and sometimes less than a pint. Therefore when I go, if I get 3 beers and a burger I'm already at $25 pre tip. Love the selection and variety though so I keep coming back. Wish they had options for flights, but maybe something for the future. read more

Made reservations for a party of 10 during weekday lunch. Service was very slow, and food took over an hour to get out to us... half of the party was served, and finished their food before the 2nd half of the party even received their food. Wait staff hardly came by our table and never apologized for the wait. I was excited to try this place for the first time, but I definitely won't be back. read more

We entered and there was no one...actually, I can't say no one to be found: one server came inside from her cigarette break from out front to grab her phone and go back outside for another cigarette. I truly underestimated this restaurant. My boss treated us to takeout lunch from Barley House earlier today. The chicken wrap and french fries were great! I love how the fries were battered with the right amount of crisp. I will definitely be adding this place to my list of lunch spots in Akron. read more

Went for vegan Monday night. The pictures of their mock chicken fingers is what drew me here.. and they were great! I thought the vegan philly was delicious.. my partner ordered the impossible burger that came on a pretzel bun. Due to all the construction downtown we parked on the street on high st. I can't say much for the service... it's a huge place and they didn't have much business by 9pm on a Monday.. we did wait for a bit by the "please wait to be seated" sign until the bartender invited us over to sit at the bar.. and he was friendly and on top of keeping our drinks topped off. I hope to see some of these vegan items added to their regular menu.. I've been wanting to try their vegan menu.. but they have a lot of competition for Monday nights.. since so many restaurants are doing meatless Monday's these days. read more

Ordered through yelp before they stopped taking online orders. I arrived 15 minutes after I ordered my food around 10:30pm and the doors were locked. There were two people sitting at the bar staring at me drinking beer on shift, they never came to the door to explain why they closed early. I sat in front trying to find somewhere else to eat and an older guy with glasses came out I asked him what time they closed he said he doesn't work there but he walked out the locked doors. I checked my bank and the full $30 came out my account, not sure why their system was able to take money out my account or they are advertising the wrong hours but the workers are incapable of staying the whole shift to preparing the rest of the orders. If you are planning to eat here before a show at the Akron Civic Theatre, plan to get there at 11:00 when they open, and maybe just maybe you'll have your food before an 8:00 show. It took over an hour to get our food and it wasn't any good. Burgers come with potato chips, unless you want to pay $2 more for fries. The waitress sucked, she kept disappearing and could care less that we were late for the concert despite allowing enough time to have a few cocktails and dinner. Do yourself a favor and eat at home. Came with a group of 8 and while the night started off well, it didn't live up to our expectations. The staff seemed a little bit scattered and our waiter rarely checked in on us. I had the nacho burger and although the taste was good, it was so smothered in queso that towards the end I was unable to even finish it. Everyone did agree that the fries were very good! Someone ordered the bacon cheese fries but did not like them and said they were "dry". When we were ready to pay, everyone but one couple had a perfect bill. For some reason the staff had added another couple's order to my friend's bill. Then a soda was added (they both had water). Then another soda was added? The bill ended up being fine but it took way too long to do something as simple as taking a meal off. Not sure if we would come back. read more

I think the menu on Yelp needs some updating. I looked at it and had my heart set on a nice warm cup of the beer cheese soup. Only, it is no longer offered here. Everything else was fine. My friends and I shared the reuben egg roll appetizer and fried pickles. I had wings as my entree. They were meaty and good. I also had a side salad, which was fine. My one friend had his heart set on the Shepherd's Pie, and they were out of mashed potatoes, so they had to 86 that item. He was so disappointed. Nice beer selection. Good service. It's very sad to see how much this place has declined over the years. They were busy and the service was not too bad. But the food was whole other issue. I ordered the Smoked House Turkey Club with a side of cole slaw. The sandwich was missing the bacon looked like it was slapped together. The cole slaw was spoiled and smelled. I asked the waiter for some bacon and side of chips since I could not eat the cole slaw, never got them. Got the bill and noticed a $2.00 processing fee and I was paying cash. read more

Came in after a Ducks game. Should have known something was up, 4 people at bar and 2 tables were full. We had a party of 6, waitress came by and took our order. Ordered 2 beers and 4 waters, took 10 minutes( at the time she had only 1 table besides us with 3 people). 4 serving came and ten minutes later the other 2 arrived. Burger with egg had part of a sell in it with a burnt bun,2 orders had cold fries and 1 order was wrong. Told waitress about the order and ordered 2 more beers, she smiled and laughed and walked to the kitchen. She came back 10 minute later with the beer and an attitude and ask if anything else was wrong? Talked to the acting manager while B waitress kept sticking her nose in it. Manager took care of the problem. The waitress has no people skills was rude and bitchy. The cook should do a much better job or get another one. The place sucks!!!! read more

I don't know what happened to the Barley House, I used to really enjoy it, but it's clearly gone down hill. I know places are understaffed right now, but the service was unbelievably bad. There was only one other table when we got there, but it still took us five minutes to get seated. Add ten minutes to get waited on, and another ten minutes to have our waters brought to us. After ordering food, it took almost an hour to get four burgers. The waitress never refilled my water and was inattentive. The food was really bad, definitely not worth the $13 per burger we paid. read more

Great food and beer. Had Reuben and fries, excellent. Wide selection of craft and bottled beers. Our server was Rachel, she is great! Went while Rubber Ducks baseball was playing home game, but very quiet time to go, so can't vouch for busy times. This was a Saturday at 5pm. Well, I ate today at the Barley House with 3 business colleagues for lunch, who had told me about their excellent soup. And they were NOT lying! Today's special was Smoked Gouda and Broccoli, in a regular bowl or in a bread bowl (how I had it) with homemade chips. This was probably the best Cheese/Broccoli soup I have ever had. Seriously. It was amazing. The salad I had with it was very good, but to be honest, I think I was still wishing I had more soup to eat (it was THAT good), so the salad seemed somehow less by comparison. But in reality, the salad was good. Our server was friendly and accommodating (4 people, 4 checks), and the food was timely and as described above, excellent. It is clear that this is a 'big bar' type venue, with a stage for live music and such for the night-life... but if you want a very reasonably priced, excellent lunch, you won't go wrong here. My sister recommended this place, she goes here often while at school. She raved about their burgers and it didn't disappoint! They have popcorn to hold you over until your first round arrives! We ordered sliders to start, the pulled pork and Caribbean jerk. Pulled Pork was better, the carribean jerk didn't have much spice it flavor, making it a bit forgettable. Perfect size though to get you ready for the main deal! She ordered the Western burger and chips, I decided on a turkey Reuben and coleslaw (since it takes me down memory lane back to New York delis!). Her burger was huge!!! Thick slices of sourdough bread, bacon, and giant onion rings. The party was seasoned well and perfectly cooked and the chips have great seasoning on them! My Reuben was good, but the bottom piece of bread was pretty soggy. The coleslaw was fresh and tasty, would be good paired with a burger since they're so big and heavy. Huge space, good service, has corn hole set up, lots of TVs with sports on, and often has live music on the weekends. Tonight I went here with a few friends and we got some tortilla chips and salsa and a flatbread pizza and chicken wings with a few sauces. Ask for the tortilla chips and salsa they were pretty good and average and as for the flatbread pizza it was probably the best thing on the table it was really good in it had pieces of chicken on it now for the chicken wings I feel that these were just average and they were overcooked a little bit and burnt on some spots but the sauces did help with it read more

The ultimate mix of "bar and grill" meets dive bar. This place has a sort of small town feel with local events and happenings, all while being located close to the university of Akron. The food is absolutely amazing, the impossible burger is the first fully advertised vegan option at such a place. I visited the Barley House for the first time in at least 5 years. Upon entering we were greeted by a friendly staff member and taken to our table. The app we wanted, they were out of. They were out of the roll for my husbands burger, and the substitute they used couldnt hold up, it became a soggy mess. My Cuban was good but was not pressed and was served on a sausage roll...I really wanted that pressed crunchy bread. I believe the syrup was low on the pop machine as it was pale and watery. Our server would disappear and wasn't there when we needed her. No acknowledgement or apology when I said part of my order was missing. I wanted to like this place. My son, a student at Akron University told me about it. The beer selection was good , my beer, a white ale was Lukewarm, The food however was horrible. I had a margarita flatbread that tasted of oil and nothing else it was very bland I tried to add pepper to it but it didn't help. My son had a chicken salad sandwich that came with house made chips. We were with another couple, and we both ordered appetizers. 30 mins after ordering the appetizers the waitress walked by and I asked if they were going to be coming out? The worst service I have ever had. I am in the industry and understand that everyone is understaffed right now. My food was not what I ordered and asked to speak to the manager. I had ordered all flatts for my wings and was given drumsticks. When I told him what I had ordered his excuse was well we are understaffed and didn't have enough flatts to fill the order. I was not sure what being understaffed had to do with my food being wrong. I told him that if they were not able to fill my order that someone should have come out to tell me instead of assuming what I wanted. He shrugged his shoulders, took my plate and walked away. I was not offered another meal or asked if I wanted anything else. I would have gladly paid for something else as all of my friends were still eating. When we asked why he did not ask me if I wanted another meal his reply was well I thought you were ready to leave. We all still had full drinks and had not asked for checks at this point.
