Service was a little slow but waitress was quick to respond to requests. Great atmosphere and cocktails where mixed well. But the food was some of the worst that I've had in a long while. It's Monday night, the place was not crowded at all, we were seated right away, asked what we want to drink, and served within a matter of minutes. I really like our server Julie, she's very personable, polite and outgoing. She gave us a minute to get our main order, I ordered toga chips for starters. Keep in mind the restaurant has happy hour specials $1.50 off appetizers until 6 pm. The tower of toga chips was delicious- it's saratoga chips smothered with bbq sauce topped with cheese. For entree, I ordered Fish Tacos- it tasted delicious! It's different because it comes with a pineapple-corn salsa, but my tastes buds like the different taste combo. I definitely recommend trying it. The food rating and place ambiance is 5/5, but I have to rate my margarita 4/5. I ordered the classic margarita to pair with my tacos, I was excited but a little disappointed because it's way to sour, and I cannot even taste the alcohol, with the price I paid I am thinking of having at least a little bit of alcohol with my cocktail. Friendly people and a nice outdoor area. Union/Florence is lacking in outdoor seating options so it's nice that Barleycorn's has this. However not impressed with the food. Had a buffalo chicken wrap and the chicken was cold and there was no buffalo sauce or spice to it at all. Also no cheese on it, just some chicken, lettuce, and tomato in a wrap. He ordered the Pastrami Reuben with a side of pasta salad (1 star). No flavor whatsoever on both menu items. Sandwich was flat and came out way too quickly from the kitchen to be freshly made ( dining room was not very crowded so kitchen should have been able to make meals to order). Barleycorn's is like any casual American restaurant with a sports bar feel to it. The bar is open until 2:30. We had a gift certificate and decided to go to the new Florence location. We walked in around 8:45 pm and it really wasn't that busy. We were sat right away and our server came up. She acted like she really didn't care about us or her tip, and that continued throughout the meal. Our food came out fast because, well, there was hardly anyone eating. Most people were drinking at the bar. There was a crazy overabundance of fish entrées on the menu - maybe it's because we went during Lent, but it looked like their normal menu. They probably had 6 fish dinner entrées! My hubby ordered a steak sandwich and he really enjoyed it. I couldn't find anything that looked good so I ordered one of their salads and it was okay but way overpriced. It was 9.75 for a salad that wasn't even that large. I don't think there is anything here that stands out and makes me say "wow!! Let's go to Barleycorn's to get that great (fill in the blank food)!" I would compare this place to Applebee's and I think that Applebee's is terrible. read more

This is the second time I have gone here for dinner. The first time they still allowed smoking inside and that ruined the entire meal. My wife told me they only allow smoking outside so we went this week and also brought along my mom who was visiting. With my mom along, we had to do the early bird and arrived right at 5 pm. It wasn't crowded at all and we were seated quickly, though right next to the front door where a group of employees were wrapping up silverware at the hostess desk. This allowed us to hear a bunch of snarking about others who worked there, they even bad-mouthed another employee right after she left helping them to wait on another table. They have a large selection of drinks, appetizers and main courses. Our drink order was taken after our server explained what the happy-hour deals were and they were promptly brought back and we asked for a few more minutes to look over the menu. I ordered the taco salad with beef, $8.99 (with chicken it is $9.95). My wife ordered the chicken salad on a Servatii pretzel roll with Saratoga chips and my mom got the Chipotle Ranch Chicken Wrap with a side of sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries are considered an upgrade and are 45 cents more than the normal selection of chips, pasta salad, fruit coleslaw or applesauce. Even regular fries are an extra 45 cents. Your only choices to sweeten your drink are Sweet-n-low or sugar. I prefer Equal for the flavor and how evenly it mixes. I attempted to use sugar but all the sugar packs were solid and I tried some at an empty table behind us and they too were unusable. I should have asked but instead went with the Sweet-n-low. The meals arrived fairly quickly and my salad looked good. I ordered it with ranch dressing but could see none. I started in on it and it didn't take long to figure out that they went really skimpy on the beef. There was less than you would find in a single regular taco at Taco Bell. It was pretty much a salad with ten tortilla chips around the outside edge. The salsa that is served with it had nice spice to it but was basically sauce. There were not chunks of anything in it and there was enough for a bowl of chips but since there were only the ten around the salad bowl it went for naught. I finally found the ranch dressing in the bottom of the bowl. It actually appeared they poured in the dressing and built the salad on top of it. Over all it was very bland and the lack of beef made it overpriced. The wrap my mom received was quite large and she only ate half. She said it was pretty good and it appeared pretty meaty. Her sweet potato fires were limp on the full sized ones and overdone on the nubby ones. My wife's chicken salad looked good but was also a little short on chicken salad. It was obviously half of a scoop since it still had the scoop shape and didn't cover half of the pretzel roll. She said both were tasty and her Saratoga chips were crisp and she received a sufficient amount. I tried one with their barbecue sauce which we both felt was a little sweet for our taste. We both prefer a bolder barbeque sauce. Overall the service was good, our server was friendly and she checked on us just the right amount. The food for two of our meals seemed over priced for what we received though Mom seemed happy. This Barleycorn's also have a couple of games toward the back of the restaurant and there were a couple of young kids running wild back and forth from them to their parents outside. A restaurant like this doesn't need an area like that and it would be less annoying to others if their parents were not so busy drinking and smoking outside to allow them to control the kids. Best Bar, Sports and American Food eatery in Sugartit, KY! I told them they should have named it Barleycorn's Sugartit instead of Boone County! You can't pay for marketing like that. Service is always good. It does get busy so on weekends and game nights, be prepared to have a beverage while you wait for a table. So, they offer a meal with a loaded baked potato and any of several available sides. Sounds good, right? My wife and I both got the LBP meal with a side - food came out. Chili was good... salad was "a salad" ... hard to mess that up. Then the baked potato - you would think there is no way to mess up a baked potato.... but they found a way. Potato was cold.... dry.... we sent them back... mgr came out - and to her credit - admitted that the potatoes are baked in the morning and that even if we got a new one, would not be that good . So heads up!! Unless you get there for lunch or a breakfast ( if they had one) scratch the potato. Appreciate the mgrs honesty and the fact she then comp'd the meal. Let me first begin by saying we had not been to Barleycorn's for over 20 years. I remembered the restaurant as smoky, with boring frozen bar food. I am now a fan. Sunday we were going to Cincinnati for lunch, and looking for something different. Traffic was slow and go on the intersate, so we got off on Dixie Highway. We were trying to figure out where to go as we were approaching Barleycorn's. we decided to stop there on a whim. Am I glad we did. We were quickly seated and our server met us for our drink order. While we were waiting for our tea, I noticed the menu was more interesting than I remembered. When our server returned she advised us of the daily specials. The soup was a white bean with ham and the brunch special was a breakfast wrap. She explained what was in the burrito and that the soup was homemade. I ordered a bowl of soup, and at the last minute decided to add the stuffed mushroom appetizer. My husband ordered the pot roast. The mushrooms were the best stuffed mushrooms I have ever had, and I love mushrooms in any fashion! They are stuffed with the spinach artichoke dip and covered (loaded) with Parmesan and then broiled. DO NOT MISS THE STUFFED MUSHROOMS. The soup was very good, and obviously home made. My husband enjoyed his pot roast, and said he would definately order it again. (high praise!) But wait, this is a review for the us 42 store? well, since we were so impressed on Sunday that we went to the restaurant on 42 last night. The parking lot was very busy, the outside seating was full, but the inside was pretty open. This time I ordered the shrimp basket and my husband ordered the DOC style wings. YUM! While the jumbo they use to describe the shrimp is up for debate, the flavor was obvious. The DOC wings are fried, then sauced, then refried. The result is more like a dry rub, spicy but not too spicy, not greasy and not messy. I believe the wings were fresh instead of frozen. DO NOT MISS THE DOC WINGS! I chatted a little with our server. She said they are trying new menu items now all of the time. The new executive chef is introducing more homemade items and all of the dessert offerings are home made. Kudos! I had been to the Dixie Highway a few times and I enjoyed it. They finally opened up a location just a few minutes from where I live. When you first walk in, the hostess station is right there. There really is very little room in the entryway for anyone to stand while waiting for a table. The night I went, the wait was close to 45 minutes and most of that time was spent dodging other people as they tried to move around. As others have said, there is a non-smoking section, but there is not type of divider to help block out the smoke from the smoking section. That really affected the meal to me. On top of, what I felt were small portions for what I was paying, the smoke drifting over just killed it for me. I doubt I'll be returning. read more

Let's start out with the fact that this may not be viewed as a fair review. I (we) did not eat here, never even made it past the hostess station. I was looking forward to trying out Barleycorns, I have heard good things from people at work and this is their newest location, in the Florence, KY area. The place was hopping and parking was at a premium, it will only get worse when the other businesses in the new strip open up, but we lucked into a front row spot. We walked in and there were a number of people milling around near the entrance waiting to be called for their tables. I asked how long a wait we should anticipate for our party of 4 and was told that there were 6 parties ahead of us. I asked how long a wait that translated to; 20 minutes, 30, 45? I was very curtly told that she had no idea and handed me a call buzzer. Then came the death knell, "Do you have a smoking preference?"
