Barley mash was a vibe. The dj was getting down and so were all the comicon people. The decorations were fun and overall the vibe was great. The salads were super refreshing and my salmon was well cooked and seasoned. Overall, the next time I'm in San Diego, I'm going back to eat and dance it off with a dj on a weekend.

Popped in with a group on a recent trip to San Diego after having dinner in the area. We were wandering around in Gaslamp hoping to find some good music and wanted to find something that wasn't too clubby or young. No line & no cover brought us here. Found plenty of table seating near the bar area and did some people watching. Fun spot with a great DJ & variety of ages. Perfect for our group.

I've been coming here for years! I usually just get alcoholic drinks but today I came during the day and I was able to try some of their food. The flatbreads were delicious and full of flavor. They also come with a dipping sauce (not pictured). I ordered the All In Fries with Pulled Pork - so yummy! I would definitely order it again. you can share everything amongst four people. The service was pretty quick. The ambience was just nice and chill and very clean.

I'm honestly surprised this place isn't more popular on a Saturday night maybe it's better suited for an older crowd? It's very spacious, and it's incredibly fast to get a drink. The bathrooms are top-notch and I mean it! They're so elevated compared to most places. The vibe is great; I just happened to be in more of a bar-hopping mood, otherwise I would have stayed here all night. And no cover charge, which is amazing!

Good for a family meal or lively spot for drinks with friends. Very busy for a Thursday night, but we were seated with no wait at 6:30pm. We got the sampler platter and I personally liked the buffalo cauliflower the best. The ranch dipping sauce was amazing. The poke nachos were also really good and the fish was fresh and firm. We got one of their loaded Mac and cheeses, which was also really good. They also have a kids menu offering cheeseburger, grilled cheese, etc. Comes w a side and kid's drink. Service was very attentive and super friendly.

Like most folks leaving bad reviews, nothing wrong with Barlmash what so ever, but the 4% surcharge. I mean, the place has to be making pretty good margins on my $18 margarita type drink which didn't have much alcohol at all. Price of food was also on the higher side. I don't get why they have to gouge their customers with an extra 4% surcharge, which then gets accounted for when I go to tip. It all just seems unnecessary. I think I'll go back to just using this place as a landmark spot to go into and grab a beer at the bar. Everything beyond that is just annoying as a customer.

Came here with one of my girlfriends after visiting the Museum of Illusions and let me tell you -- the vibe was vibing! First things first, this is the Gaslamp, so parking can absolutely be a challenge. You'll probably have better luck parking off Sixth or Seventh Avenue and walking over to Fifth where the restaurant is located. Just plan ahead and you'll be fine. When you walk in, you immediately notice the open-concept layout. The bar sits right in the middle with dining all around it. It gives pub energy but still feels like a full-service restaurant. There are plenty of TVs playing sports and entertainment, and the noise level is about average -- lively but you can still hold a conversation. They can easily accommodate both small and larger groups, and overall it just has a really nice, welcoming vibe. The staff? Super friendly and inviting. Our waitress, Diana, was sweet and very accommodating. She walked us through the house specials, happy hour deals, and what was popular on the menu. Love when servers actually know the menu! Now let's get into the food. We ordered the short ribs over fries topped with guacamole, sour cream, and beer cheese. Very savory and definitely shareable. The short rib itself was tender and pull-apart good, but it did have more fat than I would've liked and could've used a bit more seasoning. Nothing major though -- a little salt and pepper fixed it right up. We also ordered the wings -- you get 10 per order and can split them into two flavors (which I love). We chose Buffalo and Mango Habanero and asked for them to be baked a little longer. They came out PERFECT. Crispy, hot, and flavorful. Now the ranch... it's definitely house-made and unique. I was kind of on the fence about it. It worked okay with the wings, but dipping the veggies in it? That was a no for me. One thing I will say -- the food came out piping hot and beautifully presented. You can tell the kitchen actually cares about quality and presentation. Portion sizes are generous. What we ordered was perfect to share. If you're super hungry, you may want your own entrée. But for a casual meal with a friend? Sharing is plenty and you'll leave full. I'll definitely be back to try their poke nachos (they looked sooo good walking past us) and the burgers -- they were huge and looked incredibly flavorful. If you're ever in the Gaslamp area, I definitely recommend stopping by. You won't be disappointed. Thank me later

The restaurants sits on the corner lot with nice outdoor seating on these San Diego Sunny Days! There was a group of about 7 that easily walked from the NACNS conference held at the Marriott. The crew was efficient with their splendid teamwork. Our waitress was Shannon T. And we tried a variety of items from-- iron fries, burgers, flatbread, and salads. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. There was a minor hiccup but the team recognized the mishap and corrected promptly. Would happily return when back in the SD area.

This restaurant is always busy. We came here on a Tuesday night and it felt like a Friday!! Food came quick. I ordered my burger and I got to say it was delicious!! It was so big I had to take half of it to go!! I believe you have to be over 21 to get in because we got ID at the entrance.

My first time here. My friends and I stopped by for dinner on a Tuesday evening, and they were pretty busy. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated. Because of how busy it was, the service felt a bit rushed. I ordered the Steak Frites. It came with potatoes, garlic aioli, and a delicious chimichurri sauce. The flavors paired well together, and I especially enjoyed the chimichurri.

My family and I came here for dinner. It's actually a sports bar, and they seemed pretty strict about making sure we were the parents of our kids (since they were under 21) before letting them in. I love the vibe here! It was so fun and festive, and I loved the people watching. We were there a bit earlier in the evening, but I'm sure it would be more packed later in the evening or during a game. Our server was super friendly and came by often to check on us. The portions are generous here. We ordered: Iron Fries - "All In" - 3/5. Family said the meat on the fries wasn't seasoned well and was bland. Flatbread - Ultimate Buffalo - 5/5. Loved the crust and the flavors! Barley Mac - "The Mash". 4/5. The mac was good, but once again the family said the pork was bland. Crispy Chicken Sando - 3/5. The chicken patty was ok, but a bit overcooked and dry. I'd say this is a great place to hang out and grab a drink, but not necessarily for the food (maybe just the flatbread).

We went here for dinner on a Saturday night and had an excellent experience. The restaurant is located in the heart of the Gas Lamp district, which is quite lively at night. We went for dinner but I noticed that there are TV screens everywhere so this is obviously a good place to eat/drink and watch sports. Hence the label sports bar. But this is more than a sports bar. The food is a notch above sport bar grub. There are the usual pizzas, burgers, loaded fries, etc etc. But also some high end entrees such as steak. The drink menu is extensive and the draft beer selection was a whole page of single spaced options. The wife and I each had a craft beer to start. They are not inexpensive at about $11 a glass, but they were tasty and exactly what we needed. I had the black and blue burger and it was excellent quality meat. I asked for medium and got medium well but the burger was not dry. The bacon was crispy as I requested. It was a tasty burger and the flavors came together well. The wife had the Burbon BBQ burger which came with bacon, fried onion strips, cheese (I think) and BBQ sauce. She loved the burger. Both of our fries were crispy and hot, but the star was homemade ketchup. Delicious. Each burger was $21.50 which is high but the quality and taste were there. Our server Jessica was attentive and friendly. The bathrooms are spacious and clean. Overall, this is an excellent place to eat, drink, and relax.

I was in the area for an event, and since I was early, decided to stop by here. The staff was welcoming, and told me how it was H/H and that brought a smile to my face. I just ordered a drink since I knew I'd be having food at my event.... but will have to comeback to try their poke nachos. My drink was delicious and had a nice kick to it which is always appreciated. Overall, a nice spot to check out if in the area. I will be back.

It says "dancing".. is there like a DJ or something?

Unfortunately no dancing or DJ. It's a small intimate. It's more for great conversations.

I'm looking for a nice place for packer fans?

I believe The Local Eatery & Drinking Hole on 1065 fourth ave , San Diego , CA 92101. Is a packers bar. But this place Barleash is a great place to go in general!!! Food,…

Can kids come during the day?

It is a restaurant, so I would think kids are allowed whenever they are open.

With outdoor seating, are you able to watch tv?

Barley Mash does have many TVs and the sides of the bar area has many TV's and the main restaurant does have many you can see from the outside.

Is there dancing on Saturday nights?

Yes there is! Around 11 or so they put away all chairs and stools !

Is this place accessible for someone in a wheelchair?

Yes it is. The venue has plenty of room to navigate through the venue.

    Does it have bottomless mimosas?

Im sure you have to wear pants there

    When does the kitchen close?

Around 1 am. The place opens up to music after 930 to 1000 pm. The kitchen is still cranking out good for. We was there on a Saturday.

I'm reading the Yelp reviews that they have a kids menu. Is that correct? Do they have high chairs for kids?

I don't bring my kid to bars. Barleymash is not a good place for kids because it's a sports bar. The Gaslamp area in general might not be the best place for kids under 14.

Are 21 year olds that turn 21 at midnight allowed in? ex: birthday is 1/6 show up 1/5 @ midnight. would they be allowed in?

Why don't you show up early and have dinner and just stay inside? You just won't be able to drink until midnight but at least this way you've enjoyed some quality food before midnight.

What time does the kitchen close?

Pretty sure at 10. But make sure to get there early because every time I go late, I'm out of luck. Think they have like flatbreads, but didn't stay for that

Do you need reservations on 4 th of July?

Hi Terrie, We always encourage reservations, especially during holidays or when you have a big…

Is there an outdoor patio? Is it dog friendly for dinner?

Yes the front patio is dog friendly

Do you have to be 21 to go in even if you just wanna go eat on a Saturday afternoon?

Yes, you do have to be 21+ to eat at BarleyMash at any time, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Staff was also not very attentive to guests' needs, rather just going through the motions. For instance, they noted "standing room only" and that they would eventually seat our party of two. They walked us to an exact spot on the floor to stand and view the menu in the dark (we used our phone flashlights, but it wasn't easy while carrying our belongings too), and they instructed us not to order at the bar in this colorful but dimly lit tiki lounge. We essentially ordered from staff who took our order in the middle of the floor, then we had to hold our drinks, some that came with additional shot glasses, in full hands, as we were never seated. We did find a barrel to set our drinks on later, but their process and expectations for guests was just really weird and impractical. The theme and decor of the setting was lovely, with moments of a lightning and thunder effect that made the experience more immersive. But we were not impressed by the sticky menus and sticky floor, nor the lack of service and minimal help from staff while there. We made the most of our time at False Idol regardless of their shortcomings. The bombay sling and enigma de muerte were pretty decent in quality and flavor, so it's safe to say the drinks aren't the problem here. And though we probably won't return, it was cool for a one-time experience.

Parking is a nightmare good luck finding parking within a mile of the restaurant. Pros: atmosphere, drinks, service Cons: food wasn't great for the price, restaurant was small and crowded, no parking Service: All of our servers were friendly and very accommodating. Gave us some knowledge on the menu and recommended cocktails based on our preference. I had spilled my drink and they were quick to make me another one. Food: I had intended to get the prime ribeye cap steak but they ran out for the night around 8pm. I shared the steak sampler which came with four different cuts of steak and 4 sauces. I ordered medium and it was cooked medium/medium rare which was fine with me, it also had a good sear, almost burnt though. Out of the four steaks, we only liked two based off flavor and tenderness. The other two were more tough and gamey. None of the sauces really stood out but the bordelaise and horseradish were good. For our sides we got fries, roasted broccoli, and the grilled wedge salad. Fries were average. The roasted broccoli had really good flavor, I expected the broccoli to be al dente but it was cooked to mush and drenched in sauce. The grilled wedge salad was decent, there was a slightly bitter taste to it. I know it says grilled wedge but the experience of biting into the salad and it being both hot and cold was not pleasant. Cocktails: I tried the Honey Ryder and New Wave. These were recommended as the more fruity/sweet cocktails. You can definitely taste the alcohol but it's only 2oz so it's not too strong. Ambience: 10/10 I got seated downstairs by the bar. Only thing about downstairs is that it's too dark to take photos unless you use flash. Overall, I agree with the other reviews saying to go just for drinks and appetizers. I would go again just to sit upstairs and get drinks and take pictures. She was visibly uncomfortable, so I told her to switch places with me. The guy immediately said, "We're gay, so you don't have to worry," then turned to his friend and said, "Now he looks so stupid and embarrassing." I told him, "I don't think it's embarrassing to make sure your friends are comfortable," then turned back around. I didn't argue with him, insult him, or continue the conversation. I thought that was the end of it. A few minutes later, the manager came over and told us we had made comments that made other patrons uncomfortable and asked us to leave. We had already paid for our drinks and were still waiting for them. My friend followed the manager to ask what was going on, and I joined shortly after. The person complaining was, of course, the same guy who had bumped into her. He was clearly drunk and started rambling about how we had made homophobic comments toward him and his friend. This was especially ridiculous considering the friend I switched places with was there with her girlfriend. We calmly explained exactly what happened. The manager did not care. There was no real attempt to hear our side, ask questions, or figure out what actually happened. The decision had clearly already been made. While we were speaking to the manager, the guy who complained was cheerfully talking with one of the bartenders, receiving a to-go meal, and greeting them cheek to cheek. He very obviously appeared to know the staff. So that seems to be how things work here: a drunk regular or friend of the staff can make up whatever story he wants, and management will throw out an entire group of paying customers without even pretending to investigate. They refunded the drinks, which was the bare minimum. The ambience was nice, but that means absolutely nothing when the staff handles customers this poorly. Awful management, blatant favoritism, and easily the worst service I have ever experienced. I would never come back, and I would strongly warn anyone who isn't already friends with the staff to stay away.

My party ordered a whiskey flight, the sojiros sprotini, the trash panda, and the ube cocktail. All had very unique flavors. Will be returning to try more drinks on the menu! I highly recommend reservations, especially on Friday evenings and weekends. I tried walking-in on a Friday night and was turned away because of how busy it was. Also - do not try to open the door yourself manually... My party was berated for doing so, oops.

This one is long overdue--not that they need my review, because by now everyone already knows how amazing this place is. What keeps me coming back is the combination of great music, an energetic vibe, outstanding service, and some of the most creative cocktails you'll find anywhere. Tonight was girls' night out, so we decided to order the prettier, and sweeter cocktails. But don't let the sweet flavors fool you--they are definitely generous with the alcohol. These drinks may taste dangerously easy to sip, but they pack a punch! I don't even remember the names of the cocktails we ordered, but honestly, that doesn't matter because the menu changes so often. And that's one of the things I love most about Music Bar. Every visit brings something new, fresh, and exciting to try. Both of my drinks were absolutely delicious, with the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. I honestly don't know how the bartenders come up with these combinations, but kudos to the team for constantly pushing their creativity while still making every cocktail incredibly well balanced. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a regular, Music Bar never disappoints. I'll definitely keep coming back to see what new creations they come up with next. Cheers to one of my favorite cocktail spots in San Diego!

Speakers and vinyls line the walls. Vibes are more elevated here than at your usual bar. I ordered the Nickel Fortune, which came out with a fun tarot card. CMB's website states that "cocktail attire is celebrated."

Items such as scrupulously prepared meatballs, fried polenta, spaghetti with mushroom sauce, etc., from the prior next-door, connected purveyor "Soda and Swine"...but those days are done ...I digress. And where is Soda and Swine's Yelp page? I know I did a review, but now the page appears gone completely in search? Nah, it's just hidden, presumably to accommodate Fortunate Sons, which opened about a year ago after re-construction of both establishments. I'm too lazy to see if still owned by Consortium Group. I did search my reviews and found my updated Soda & Swine review dated 8 & 10 years ago. O_o !! Now, food is still served, however, there's a new name in town called "Fortunate Son" (next door, connected). Apparently, food now served is Asian-inspired. I've not visited recently to taste. Definitely make a reservation in advance through OpenTable because they fill up pretty quickly. There is also a deposit required, which you can lose if you no-show or cancel within 24 hours, but the deposit is refunded once you arrive for your reservation. When you arrive, a hostess greets you at the entrance. There's a small waiting area where you can sit until they come get you. Then there's a door where you press a button, and it opens to bring you into the restaurant/bar. Inside, there's a mix of tables and bar seating, and they serve food in addition to having an extensive cocktail menu. The drink menu was definitely the highlight for me. There were so many creative and unique cocktails that really stood out. I'm usually not a huge cocktail person because I don't like overly sweet drinks, and it can be surprisingly difficult to find cocktails that are both original and sophisticated enough to actually sip and enjoy. They definitely nailed that here. I tried several: *Kasato Maru: This was so smooth and absolutely delicious. By far my favorite. You could really pick up the St. Germain elderflower and pear, and the flavors worked beautifully together. Definitely one of my favorites. *Sunomono: This was more liquor-forward, but still incredibly smooth. Definitely a good choice if you want something that lets the spirits shine. *Je Ju: Unfortunately, this one wasn't for me. It had a really unusual flavor that just didn't work with my palate, and my friend wasn't a fan either. I'm usually not one to send a drink back, but the staff was fantastic about it. They happily took it back and made me a completely different cocktail. *Softly Spoken: My friend ordered this one, and it came in a glass filled with small ice cubes. I tried it and thought it was really good, but it wasn't quite my personal preference. It definitely had more of a fruity flavor profile. The food looked absolutely amazing although we didn't eat here this time. There are still so many cocktails on the menu that I want to try so I'll definitely need to come back. The atmosphere is dimly lit, intimate, and full of character. It has that cool, moody feel that makes you want to sit back, sip a cocktail, and stay awhile. And the service was phenomenal from start to finish. Overall, this was such a fun experience. Great atmosphere, creative cocktails, excellent service, and plenty more on the menu I still want to try. I can't wait to come back!
