We went to Barn8 for a belated Mother's Day brunch. The property was awesome and the restaurant was really cool the way it was set up. They had tables inside of horse stalls in the barn which was unusual and really added to the ambiance. They also had a small shop on the way out where you could buy sausage and other things to take home, presumably from the farm. The food was good but I wasn't blown away, it is hard to blow me away with breakfast food though so we will have to go back for dinner and I will likely update my review. read more

Went for the first time the other night and had a great experience and will definitely be returning. the drinks and small plates are amazing. really loved the mesclun salad, shishito peppers, the elderflower fizz mocktail, and the red hot mama cocktail. the trout tasted amazing but i don't personally love the eating style of whole fish as it had lots of little bones. the menu is limited as most of their ingredients are locally sourced or from the farm. i'd also recommend coming a little earlier to view the property and plan on staying for the "art walk" they have this summer - it's a light show in the forest that you can walk through at your own leisure read more

If you're in the area, this is a must! Creative, delicious cocktails and the food is top notch! I can't rave enough about the apps and entrees, but the dessert was amazing too. We sat in a semi-private stall which gave a really unique ambiance - you'll probably need to make reservations for this, otherwise you're in a similar but less private area. To start, we ordered a few apps to share, and we each got our own cocktail to pass around and try, but the Elderflower Fizz (non-alcoholic) was the winner! Just add Cava and it's the perfect spritz. We got an assortment of salads and entrees and of course we passed everything around until every plate was completely clean! The duck breast, pork chop, and whole trout were 10/10 - we could get them all again in a heartbeat. The servings looked small at first but the food was so delicious and we had plenty to go around; we left very full. Our server was super friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drink options, and accommodations were made to fit our dietary needs and preferences. We enjoyed our night at Barn8 to celebrate a birthday. It's a little farther out of the city than we normally go, But the atmosphere is worth it! The restaurant is a converted barn, with tables in stalls and a pretty view of the rest of the Hermitage Farms grounds. You can roam the grounds for free, but there is an art walk you can pay to go through, which is outside and put on by 21C art. Service was great, our server went through and explained all the dishes well (especially when we didn't know some of the words on the menu By far the best was the pastrami Toast, second was sticky toffee pudding, and the agnolotti was pretty good. The menu changes every week and everything is from local farms and produce. The price point is high, but on par with similar restaurants in Louisville. Next time we visit, I think we'll opt for appetizers only and walk around the grounds. But we'll definitely be back! read more

Barn8 is a beautiful spot for dinner or brunch! We snagged one of the last tables available for brunch this weekend and had an excellent experience. When we arrived, the hostess took our temperature before seating us. Everyone working had gloves and masks on, as well as making everyone mask when they were not at the table. Tables are spaced very far apart. We enjoyed three of the brunch drinks: "She's a Snack", "Bless Your Heart" and the "Hey Rae". She's a Snack was a delicious spicy Bloody Mary with half a picked egg and olives on the skewer. Bless Your Heart was a lemony mimosa type drink that was refreshing and light, but also very boozy. The Hey Rae was also very good, pineapple themed with chartreuse. All of the cocktails were outstanding, I would come back for them alone. We shared the spooky cinnamon roll, which was outstanding. It was fresh and hot and covered in an orange sauce that put other cinnamon rolls to shame. It was also giant and enough for 4 people to split. I had the mushroom frittata, which was delicious and well made. My usual complaint about frittatas is that they can end up being watery depending on the ingredients, but this one had an excellent texture. My husband ordered the farmers plate with no meat, and they gave him an extra biscuit to compensate. He had the mushroom gravy. They were both excellent and I highly recommend to any vegetarians who miss biscuits and gravy. Portions were giant. After the cinnamon roll, neither of us even came close to finishing our meals. Rookie mistake, I know, but who can pass up a hot cinnamon roll?! Our waitress (sorry I didn't get her name) was super nice and very attentive while also not rushing us. She timed everything perfectly. Overall, it was slightly pricier than most brunches, but it's an excellent ambiance and a fun place to visit. We will be back for the art walk! read more

I am sad to say that my love affair with Barn8 is officially over. We frequently visited Hermitage Farms for a delightful meal, full of unique and tantalizing flavors but that has changed. With the departure of Chef Allison the menu has stagnated, weekly changes have turned into seasonal without a clear definition of the season. The food itself is very uninspired and unfortunately bland. Each bite used to have three distinct flavors and sensations, the initial contact with your palette, onto the orchestra of flavors as the ingredients react with one another, followed by the finish, like fading fireworks in the sky. Each dish now is the same from start to finish, one note throughout the entire experience. The encounter described for each dish on the menu has turned into a more literal translation without the need for the individual to interpret. I also fear that the pastry chef that breathed life into the dessert menu may have also parted. The dished remain ambitious in their concept however, the delivery has dropped. Our service was great, as always, thanks to Lindsay and the support team providing us a bespoke dining experience. The lackluster menu might not be entirely on the shoulders of the new chef. Hermitage Farms has turned into an attraction in its own right, potentially leaving the restaurant as a secondary thought as aspects of the facility have become neglected reverting into a barn like experience. In closing, to paraphrase Peter Griffin, this meal has been quite shallow and pedantic. read more

Super cute barn tucked away in Prospect. It's a bit of a drive, and there's not much else out there, but it's perfect for a date night, event or wedding. The grounds are gorgeous. Rolling hills, green grass, a garden and a big barn. The barn has a large upstairs area with a few tables, but could easily host a wedding reception. Downstairs is the main restaurant. The my have a bourbon library and a shop that sells some cookbooks, seasoning, sauces, apparel and canned items, etc. There are tables throughout the barn, including more private tables within the barn stalls. Toward the bathrooms, there is a bar area that you won't notice unless you go back there. Downstairs, the bathroom is unisex with a shared sink area, but each stall is marked for men or women. Upstairs, there are two unisex bathrooms that have a toilet and a urinal inside. The menu changes often, reflecting what's in season. The menu online was similar to the dinner menu when we arrived, with subtle changes. We had a reservation; our table was ready on time. It was decorated with a fresh flower and herb bouquet as well as antique flatware. Our server was friendly and around often. She started us with water and took our cocktail order. Once the cocktails arrived, we ordered the cornbread and the summer squash appetizer. The cornbread says it takes 10-15 min but it seemed like it was ready a lot faster. The cornbread was savory - served with butter topped with flaky salt. The summer squash was a large portion. There was some basil, onions and a lot of ricotta on the plate. I loved the freshness. It's a cold appetizer. Once our appetizers were finished, we ordered dinner. She had come by earlier for our order, but I wanted to wait a little while- until I was ready for another cocktail. My first was "the hissy fit", and it was delicious- so delicious that my date had that as his second cocktail! My second round was the peppermelon punch. I was hesitant to order it because I don't like sweet cocktails but it was delicious. Our dinners arrived and everything was delicious. We did not leave a single crumb on our plates. The whole trout was deboned by the kitchen staff, with only two small bones inside. So easy to eat! The pork chop was perfectly cooked and I enjoyed the relish. While we opted to view the dessert menu, we were too full to enjoy anything. The cheesecake and the brownie sounded so good! But instead, we spent our time talking, finishing our cocktails. We never felt rushed. I would recommend this place for dinner. It's so beautiful. Go early and have a walk around the garden but wear appropriate shoes. High heels would be a blunder. I love this place. This review is about my second visit. I ordered the cornbread, marble potato hash, and the wake me up when summer ends. The presentation on these items are so beautiful and, of course, so fresh. The cornbread, which was delicious and a must have, is perfect to share with several people and great to take home. The browning on top made a perfect crust. The potato hash was so flavorful. Spicy and salty with fresh vegetables. The mocktail was a perfect alternative to a mimosa. I love love LOVE that they have so many gluten-free and vegan options. There was no lack of taste because these items have these accommodations. I love their rotating menu. I don't think I will miss a season to try their new menu options as long as I live around this area. The price is more upscale but so worth it. This was our first experience at Barn8 thanks to all the great reviews on Yelp. Coming from Chicago, I was pleasantly surprised to find a farm to table restaurant in Louisville. Once you find the restaurant (don't entirely follow Google maps), you will be blown away by the attention to detail on all aspects of this farm from its ambiance, decor to most importantly the food and cocktails. We ordered everything on the menu (party of 8) and all the dishes were delicious. Carrots are a must order and hope it stays on the menu and the pasta dishes were fresh and tasty. The cocktails were yummy and the bourbon and whiskey flight selections were impressive. Since the menu changes often, I won't go too much into each course but def give this place a go. I'll be back for Sunday brunch! Oh and if you're there for dinner, take a stroll thru the art walk for some zen and to walk off those calories! read more

Eating inside an old horse barn stall is certainly unique so 5 stars for ambiance. And, the service was excellent. Quick, efficient, and friendly so a solid 4 stars for the service. The food, however, was disappointing. Our table of 4 had 2 plates of the pork loin which was very dry and only a few pieces of chopped okra which is why they ordered it. The lamp hunks (not typical lamp chops with bone in) were huge but also very, very dry and lacking in flavor and without any veggies. I had the rabbit special on wild rice which was the best choice. Deserts were good but tiny and expensive. So 3 for the food giving an average of 4. It's ok for a unique experience but for the price overall we were all a bit disappointed. read more

We had a truly amazing dining experience in this restaurant inside the Hermitage Farm. Its a lovely 30min drive from downtown Louisville. We started the evening with Bourbon tasting on the second floor were we got 'edumacated' about bourbon and also get to taste a handful of brands from their selection. Followed by a fantastic outdoor art/light/music show along the trail just behind the restaurant. Pictures nor video just does not do justice on how wonderful the show is. One of those things you really need to see and experience in person to fully appreciate it. Dinner at the restaurant wasnt too shabby either, though there were hits and misses, overall it was good food serve in a unique ambiance. Outstanding farm to table at the farm Located at beautiful hermitage farm with gorgeous pastoral views. barn 8 is a red barn with adjacent giant greenhouse. It is warm and welcoming with stalls separating groups to make it quiet and intimate. We were a six top. Greeted and seated with Covid safety, temperature at the door, staff with masks wear a mask in and settle into your table. Erin the friendly manager greeted us upon our arrival and checked on us after service. Our waitress, Abbey, greeted us, brought our waters and took drink requests. Some of us tried the house old fashioned and manhattan with were both very tasty. We ordered a cross section of apps to graze on. The corn bread was nicely done with three herb butters, beware the cast iron skillet. Gritt cakes were crispy on the outside and creamy inside (weisenberger of course). Technically challenging to achieve both consistencies. Fried green tomatoes had a different presentation, small quartered tomatoes instead of the traditional thicker slices with W. grit breading and a delicious sauce. Charred carrots and grilled zuchine one with a homemade yogurt taziki like sauce and the other with a homemade ricotta. Only empty plates were returned to the kitchen. Enjoyed some nice Sanctuary Cab wine. Entrees did not disappoint. I had the Bison rib eye medium rare. Perfect sear, perfect temp, delicious Sea salt and pepper crust and a rosemary matte de butter. The cab lit up the flavors in my mouth, My wife enjoyed the pulled duck and dumplings (gnocchi like). All of the entrees were served at once by multiple staff, including chef, which I absolutely love and think is a fine dining MUST. Chef Katie kindly answered my multiple food prep questions throughout the meal via Abbey and executed every plate exquisitely. The grounds are beautiful. The barn is rustic and modern. I wish there was a way to drop off at the door. We arrived during a downpour so I was was wanting to drop my wife off at the entrance. It was a bit confusing where to park and how to get to the entrance. We realized that you park at the top of a hill and then walk down to the barn. This was one of the first days of the reopening since the Covid shutdowns so the staff was genuinely happy to see people. I commend them for wearing masks and gloves. Also for checking temperatures and asking patrons to wear masks in the common areas. Thank you! Food was good. The bison steak was country fried style. The portion was large enough that I couldn't finish it. Brought it home and had the next day for lunch. It was delicious. Overall a good experience. The staff was very friendly and told us look around at the event space and the grounds. Like, wow. Service was perfect. Food was perfect. Space is super cool and the vibe is amazing. It's spendy but so worth it. Afterwards we retired to the bar and the 'keep was so friendly and knowledgeable. I'd eat here once a week for the rest of my life if it were possible. Was in town with work colleagues and one recommended here for dinner. She can make dinner recommendations for the rest of my life. A converted horse stall. Outdoor seating was picnic tables but very nice setting ( waiting for umbrellas ). My server Stephen was engaging , knowledgeable, attentive and very kind. I could have eaten the carrots as a meal - they were that good ! To make a mint julep in this region is always a challenge and they crushed it ! Probably the best and most unique ambience that greater Louisville has to offer. This beautiful restaurant sit on the grounds of Hermitage Farm located in repurposed stables. It's quite amazing. The service is attentive as well. Unfortunately the food is merely good not great. My wife had the pork chop. The chop was heavily spiced and flavorful but the basic cook was off. Jack Fry's still has the best chop in town by far. I had the beef stroganoff which was a total miss honestly. They tried to be too different yet didn't achieve uniqueness... was it worth it to miss on the traditionally great flavors? It was not. There was a carrot appetizer that was amazing. Go for that. Anyway, we'll be back to try other menu items, but it will be our last time if the food isn't better. Regardless everyone should try it once because it really is a gorgeous place. read more

I wasn't very impressed with the entree options (there were only 5) but they seem to be a place that has a different menu probably each day or every few days or maybe even seasonal. It was decent, just didn't deliver a wow factor for me. The place/atmosphere is very neat and, in my opinion, the best reason to visit. The dish I had was the Woodland Farm pork chop... which had a lot of fat on it, served with Happy Jack's corn, which didn't really didn't have much flavor. The green pepper romesco sauce that was on the plate was definitely needed to add the extra flavor. Others at the table got the Woodland Farm bison schnitzel... that did not look good at all. They're review was "it's ok" when asked what they thought. A couple people got the Creamed Corn Bucatini, a pasta dish, and they liked it. I took a taste of it and was glad I didn't order it. The apps (grilles carrots, sugar baby watermelon, and the farmer's plate) and drinks (Bless your Heart, Down Yonder, Hissy Fit) were tasty though. I will still go back but will be checking out the menu first before doing so, hoping for better options. Oh my! What a dinner. Today went from the ridiculous to the sublime. A long train ride not getting in until 3am. 3 car rental cos not having cars I reserved. One of the truly bad restaurant meals of the last 20 years at lunch. Then Barn 8. On a large ranch bought by a wealthy couple to prevent it being turned into yet another faceless suburban development. In a real horse barn with half a million dollars of bar, bathrooms and kitchen. The menu was 1 page of around 12 dishes. They had 3 pages closely spaced of bourbon, rye and whiskey. They had Joseph Swann pinot noirs on the wine list. And our server, Lindsey. We started with an Old Fashioned made with Peerless Bourbon, foraged hickory syrup, housemade orange bitters, and Angostura bitters. I had a bourbon flight: McKenna 6 year, Barrell 29, and 1792 Barn Barrel selection. The Barrel 29 was amazing! As was the 1792. The latter just overshadowed the McKenna which was fine until I tasted the next two. Lindsey helped me make the selections and put them in the proper order. Our first plate was a bread and spread plate. 3 breads: sourdough, focaccia, and dinner rolls w/salt. The spreads were butter w/spices, an amazing red kuri squash spread (amazing!!) and the only miss, an overly spiced romesco. Next was a superb burrata on a peach coulis w/really good country ham sliced prosciutto style. Last was a red kiri squash spaetzle in a sauce of cultured cream, locally grown mushrooms and tiny cubes of delicata squash. Decadent yet really simple. Superb. A chocolate budino with peanut crumble & bourbon mousse was our over the top dessert. A peerless barrel select rye accompanied. Coffee to finish Around $200 and so worth it. Unpretentious, delicious and souĺ reviving. The manager, Abby and our server Lindsey made the evening better. I also spoke to the barkeep and our runner but did not get their names. While I never would cook dishes like these, the philosophy behind the cooking was similar to my own. We NEEDED a dinner like that. We would love to go back if we can before we leave Louisville. Time Frame: Early September 2023 First the Positive: Upon arriving at our table in one of the "Stalls", There were already glasses of water at each place setting. The Presentation of the Table was nicely done with interesting plates, utensils and glasses. The Atmosphere, Surroundings and the land were the best part of this experience. We liked that the food was served as Courses instead of everything being brought out at the same time. (There is a 2 hour minimum stay if you make reservations for a "Stall Table", which was adequate time; however, for the pricing there really shouldn't be a minimum time to be able to stay at your table.) However, others want the experience, and they want to make money. Next the NOT so Positive: The Servers and other employees didn't seem to be thrilled about working here. They weren't rude they were just less than enthusiastic or happy to see us. Who knows, they may have been short-staffed as so many places are these days. We caught the end of the Summer Menu. It was VERY limited. There were no Beef or Chicken options. The Meat options were either Duck, Red Fish or Pork. The "pan" of cornbread as an appetizer was barely enough for the 4 of us. We also ordered the baked squash. The entrées were: 2 of us ordered the red fish, one ordered a pasta dish and one ordered the Pork. There was an option to add roasted potatoes to the Meat entree and 2 people in our Party did that. For the price that we paid verses the quality of the taste of the food we won't return. If you're not used to "Gourmet Only" food options this isn't the place for you. As an overall experience it was interesting but not something we want to do again. Ambiance and location are wonderful; however, this place needs an entirely new concept. the farm-to-table approach does not work here at all. I could see how dropping in for some drinks in a great location is attractive, but that is where it caps out. The food is extremely bland, with shockingly small portions. I came here for a birthday, and it was a total letdown. Nothing is worse than feeling like you dropped the ball on someone's birthday dinner. I spent close to 5 years working in upscale dining; I could immediately tell the server did not care for any of the food, and rightfully so. Additionally, it was oddly slow for a Friday at 6:30 pm. The price point is not justified for the complete lack of portion/flavor. I appreciate what they are doing, but again, they need to have some serious talks internally about what their goals are. The outside business/event venue will be what keeps this place here; however, it will only eat away at company revenue. This could be a gem, but it is clearly held back by the concept/chef team. I really don't see how you can eat the food and say, "This is great; let's sell it!" This is one of the few times I've been to a restaurant and really wanted my money back. Just for reference as to how small the portions were, we paid our check and got food somewhere else since we were still very hungry. I have never had to do that. I left a review through the automatic review system emailed to me, and I never heard anything back from the management, which was appalling, as I have been constructive in my criticism from a very realistic standpoint. read more

Barn8 was a unique dining experience. Half-way lived up to the hype with converted horse stalls and unique food offerings. Had a reservation for 7PM on a Saturday evening, but didn't get seated until 7:30PM. The bar area has cool decor, so we grabbed some drinks and browsed in the farm boutique shop while we waited. Our waitress was cheerful and helpful with answering our questions about the menu. Fell short on the taste of some of the farm to table dishes like the baked beans that weren't cooked enough, the kale salad drowning in dressing & weird ravioli that had some kind of breading on them that didn't taste good. The good to great dishes we enjoyed: The cauliflower steak, the baked chicken, the roasted carrots, the soft shell fried crabs, the lemon tart & the melon mock-tale with lavender (not on the menu, but made on the fly). Sadly, the wonderful chicken dish arrived a solid 15+ minutes after all of the rest of us had already received our food. It's not cheap to eat here - $375 for 5 of us, before tip. The rest rooms are unique. As you enter the all-inclusive rest room, there are Men's, Women's & Unisex marked doors to each individual stall. The wash basin is one long, unisex trough. It's clean, it's fine, but might be off-putting for some. There are picnic tables with umbrellas just outside of the barn/dining room windows. Might be fun to grab some food curbside there and bring it out to those tables with a bottle of wine sometime. read more

This upscale restaurant is situated in one of the old stables on the farm and is fine dining in a rural setting. The farm raises almost all of its own produce and the meats come from their sister farm, Woodland Farm which include bison. On site greenhouse that they grow all their own vegetables. We sampled several of their cocktails from an amazing bourbon bar. They also have lovely outdoor seating. Very nice gift shop. This place is so nice, They are farm to table, food was very flavorful, menu was small but had a lot to choose from and not overwhelming. Owner and their executive chef came to our table. Nestled in the outskirts of Louisville is the beautiful and picturesque Hermitage Farm where Barn8 is located. It is a lovely drive to the restaurant and already makes you feel like you're about to enjoy something special. The restaurant itself is a converted from a horse barn so each table has its own personal space making it feel like a more private experience. Another bonus of this restaurant is its creative menu which I am sure changes based on the season. I had the family chicken dish which was awesome. Another favorite of our group was the pasta dish with bison also very delicious. I was very impressed how gluten friendly they were. There were many gluten free options that were clearly labeled. The show stopper of the gluten free options was the sorghum cornbread. We didn't even realize it was gluten free before we all devoured it. If you're looking for a unique Kentucky restaurant experience definite add this place to your list. read more

You can't beat this atmosphere.. in the middle of an operating thoroughbred farm. Beautiful Old South feel with a wonderfully built Event/barn like structure. Complete with the history of the farm, a tour of the farm and information about the carriages collection. Behind the restaurant you can visit the hot house where the fresh herbs are grown , the bison or Buffalo on menu are from the farm down the road. Truly a farm to table experience . The farm added a gorgeous boardwalk that meanders through the wooded acreage along a babbling stream and is so peaceful . Well worth the visit. I had breakfast here and thought the food - although a beautiful presentation , was just ok for the price. I think it may have been too fancy for my taste. With that said - this is worth a visit for the experience and atmosphere alone. read more

I can't believe i forgot to take pictures But this was delicious! We had the berry steak and it was perfect. We also had the Homemade pasta with veggies. Talk about al dente'! My tequila habanero cocktail has me dreaming of it!! Service was more than I ever expected in these days!! crème brûlée was not on the dessert list, but she had the chef make it for me and it was out of this world! We will be back! The atmosphere was fantastic! I was a little shocked when I went to the bathroom and came out of the stall, and a man walked out of the stall!! the art walk was incredible!! read more

We were really excited to try this restaurant. The surroundings of the restaurant were beautiful, and especially the light show outside after dinner. Unfortunately the food was quite mediocre. The flounder was very good as was the bourbon cake. Everything else we ordered was just average. Also, service was abysmal. Our waitress did not look she wanted to be there. Several times, we had to retrieve silverware or plates ourselves because she did not check on us or did not bring us the right amount of serving utensils.
