Came here on Saturday (6/2) and from beginning to end, this was probably one of the best dining experiences I have had, and that's due in large part to Christopher; the food was great but the service was even better. The moment we were seated, Christopher started tending to us; he was assertive and proactive in taking our order and retrieving our drinks. The food came out in a normal expected time and tasted great; I decided on the turkey sandwich (more basic in nature) but was content in my decision. Throughout the meal, Christopher would come refill our glasses, without us having to ask. We also ordered desert (apple pie a la mode) which was amazing as well. Another thing I would like to commend Christopher on was, even when he wasn't tending to us, he was still hustling and meandering throughout the restaurant. As a fellow busy body, I appreciated seeing that from him. Thank you again for your excellent customer service Christopher. The food was pretty good. However I went in today for the first time and it was so smelly I couldn't stay to eat so I got it to go and was hesitant even about that. I don't know if it's stinky mop solution or what but I saw two girls walk in after me and they mentioned how bad the restaurant smelled. Bacon blue cheese burger was yummy though! read more

I've been frequenting Barnabys for at least 5 years. I've never had an issue with any employee until today. My friend and I walked in for lunch today and was greeted by this little fella with a hat, mask and dark glasses. He rudely said to my friend, "You HAVE to wear a mask." My friend had his mask. I then asked him if we could take the mask off while eating our meal and his responses was,"Obviously!" Since I was the one paying for this meal I suggested we frequent another restaurant two doors down because I refuse to be talked to with that tone of voice from this little fella. So, another restaurant took my $38 for lunch and my $8 dollar tip. When I told our server we are eating somewhere else he looked disappointed but was very kind and said he understood. The funny thing is we both had our masks on but I pulled mine down to talk with the little fella. Maybe he didn't like that! Who knows? Be nice to your customers or they won't come back! I hope the owner reads this and gets back to me. If not, there are a thousand restaurants to pick from for breakfast, lunch or dinner. read more

D'Amico's did not want to deal with the bar seen on White Oak, City Oven had pathetic pizza, and this is the latest major remodel for this space. Each iteration is almost completely different than the last. With all the new mini, and local chains opening in the Heights, I almost put money down saying Barnaby's was going to be the next to invade.. Here, there are bright colors all over the walls. Big booths were the bar use to be, tables spread out in the now wide open dining area. All comfy and modern. Don't know why they have to blast crappy hip hop, dance, and rap music on the speakers. I doubt that the clientele, mostly consisting of white yuppies and families wants to here music at a club level. But whatever. Service is friendly, but kind of absent minded, and kitchen times are really slow. I was one of the only people here upon opening, and after putting in my food order...30 minutes later I had a tuna salad sandwich. Which was good, but really nothing special. The kettle cooked chips are great, and probably the best thing I have had at any of the locations. I have never been a huge fan of the burgers. They are always over cooked, and seem like pre made patties. Salads are not as good as the Ruggles a few blocks up either. An OK spot for lunch, and one that I think will finally stick around in this location. Though not among my favorites in the Heights, well I could say that about the whole of the Barnaby's franchise. Not to say it is bad by any means. Just predictable, and with the awkward service, and really slow kitchen times, they are certainly not as ready for prime time as Ruggles was when they opened. I am sure I will give them some more tries however. read more

I've lived in Houston for a good while and this was my first and definitely NOT my last trip to Barnaby's. Love love love the fun interior of this place and the service here wasn't bad either :). Parking in the general vicinity kind of sucks but if you go later on in the night there is ample parking in the parking lot next door and across the street. Friends and I were in the area after doing yoga so we yelped and decided on Barnaby's. Walked in to a mostly empty restaurant and we were told to sit anywhere. We grabbed a large booth in the back. Waiter appeared quickly and brought out waters and gave us a few minutes to order. We ordered the queso blanco which was delicious and completely negated our work out. oh well! Well worth it in my opinion. I ordered the flat iron steak since I wanted to fuel my body with protein and finish it off with fries.. because carbs. Steak was cooked well. Wasn't the most fantastic cut of meat I've ever had, but it was tasty and not overly seasoned. For that I am grateful. Fries were plentiful and crispy. They also put in a very small but appreciate arugala salad. Portions here are very generous for the price and their patio is dog friendly! Too bad my dogs aren't people friendly :( read more

Lasagna was really good. Salads are huge, even the smalls and the house salad. Sweet Potato fries are amazing, and service, contrary to other reviewers, was excellent - but we went between peak times. Although they slightly messed up my order but it took a couple minutes to fix, and they gave us a free dessert! Pretty good value for its money, and the soundtrack is on point. 4.5/5, but I gotta pick. Food is great, but salads were too cheesy. Our cheese to salad ratio was way off. read more

As a native Houstonian I was happy to see Barnaby's open a new location in the heights. Came here for breakfast over the weekend and got the green eggs. The food was delicious. Highly recommend it for anyone new to Barnaby's, their coffee was also spot on and very good, not bitter or burnt tasting. I'm not giving them a full 5 stars however bc the service was lacking. After sitting for 15mins unattended I eventually got up and got our own menus.. After doing so a waitress from another section asked us if anyone had gotten our drink order. After replying no, she quickly got our drinks and returned, informing us the section we were sitting in had a waiter who was new to the staff and he'd be there to help us "shortly". After we did get our order in, the food came out promptly .. But our waiter was basically mia the rest of our meal. We even tried to waive the guy down but were ignored. Eventually we were able to get one of the other waiters to get us our check and he miraculously reappeared to run our credit card. The most frustrating thing about the experience was that they weren't crazy busy. Had they been I would have understood the new guy being as frazzled as he was. Hopefully next time it'll be a better experience. read more

Wow, I can not believe how disappointed I was to dine here the other night. I've just moved to the Heights from the River Oaks area and have eaten at the Barnaby's on Shepherd more times than I can count. The chicken fattoush salad is my go-to but I think everything on the Barnaby's menu is amazing. You really can't go wrong. My Mom and I came to this location for dinner one weeknight, just as we had done numerous times when I used to live in River Oaks. We both found our salads completley inconsistant from what is the high quality Baranby's normally produces. My chicken fattoush salad was lacking in the amount of cucumber, tomato, and mint fattoush that it typically has. The black olives were minimal as well, like 1/8 of what is typically in the salad. My chicken breast was also dry and tough. It seemed like it should have been trimmed a little more. Typically the chicken breast is lean and easy to cut. The service was as wonderful as it always is at a Barnaby's and I was too shy to tell our waiter how disappointing our meal was. I think they just need to retrain the kitchen on their menu items. I want this location to stay here, as I love Barnaby's and am so happy to have a location near my new house! read more

Meh food here is pretty ok and prices are good. But there's nothing super special here. Parking kind of sucks for this location unless you get lucky. Worst part is the wait for food, every time we've come here it feels like we wait an extraordinary amount of time for food... =( I definitely prefer breakfast here, just make sure you get here before 11am!! I really hate to have to rate my beloved Barnabys 2 stars, but it must be done. Several nights ago, my bf and I decided to grab a bite, and he wanted to check out their new Heights location. We usually go to their location on West Gray, and are in love with their food and fantastic service. We walked in, and were greeted by a pretty friendly guy, who turned out to be our waiter, whom had us sit anywhere we liked. He gave us our menus, and we decided on what we for an appetizer. He came and took our drink and appetizer order and then- disappeared. For a while. When he finally came back, I ordered one of my all time favorite salads in the whole wide world, their Lebanese Chicken Fattoush Salad, and my bf got their Chefs Salad. Our appetizer was the spinach and artichoke dip and was great as usual. Our salads took a while to come out, and when they did I was less than impressed. My fattoush salad was not a fattoush salad. It had some of the ingredients like tomatoes, maybe a few pieces of cucumber, but it also had TORTILLA STRIPS, and NO OLIVES. I wouldn't have been too upset, but I was starving, and our waiter never came back to check on us, literally, so I never had a chance to let him know. I reluctantly began to eat, my mystery salad, and was more upset to find that the quality of the chicken here was not what I am used to from Barnabys. At the other location it is always oh-so-tender, and easy to cut. Here, it was tough, maybe needed trimming, I don't know, and just wasn't right. The ingredients that WERE on my mystery salad were lacking, and just not worth the $13.00 price tag. My boyfriend said his salad was pretty good, and here is where the second star comes in. When we were ready to leave, we had to hunt down another waiter, and ask for our check. I understand this is a fairly new location, but please, get your recipes and service up to par with the other locations. Always have enjoyed going to Barnaby's. Good food at a reasonable price. I was surprised to see them open already on White Oak. No surprises because they are so consistent. Even though their were some opening mistakes (I ordered my fav salad and they forgot one of the toppings), the staff was very quick to correct it. Their staff bent over backwards to make you feel welcome. It occurred to me that whenever I'm at Batnaby's, the staff never skips a beat. Either great training or it is a fun place to work. Probably both. To the food, enjoyed the house salad with chicken. The hickory burger is my fav burger - a burger with Canadian bacon, cheddar and BBQ sauce. Actually, I've rarely been disappointed and I'm sure this location will be the same. Welcome the neighborhood. I can see myself stopping by often. read more

We came on a Tuesday for lunch so it wasn't very busy. The staff was very attentive and not too bothersome. We both had the turkey sandwich with chips and it was really good. It comes with a wheat/honey flavor bread which I usually hate wheat bread but it was pretty good. Trying to eat healthy so it was a good choice. Plenty of meat and a tasty raspberry mayo. The portions are huge, only ate half of the sandwich. The chips are warm and freshly made and again very large portion of chips. Will definitely be back to try the asian chicken salad, reviews sound great! read more

Barnaby's is an American food cafe located all over Houston. I've been to a couple of their locations, and this one may be my favorite (though I could foresee parking problems on a very busy day), They serve some delicious food, and I've not had anything I don't enjoy. Great burgers, huge delicious salads, great meatloaf and burritos, and some other good dishes. Their fries are awful... in that I could shamelessly eat a massive bowl by myself. The food quality here is as good as any of the other Barnaby's. The restaurant itself is very trendy and nifty. It had a massive patio and seemed open and airy, but also slightly hipster-esque, giving it a trendier feel than some of their other locations. The staff were very friendly and nice. They even gave us a refill on our chips and queso, which was awesome to help clear up a hangover. Barnaby's is one of my favorite eateries in town, and this might be my new go-to location. read more

This is a mixed review. I love the barnabys brand, and their service . Always very friendly and fresh. I dined with my husband and baby, along with a another couple and baby. Atmosphere is very casual and family friendly. We were sat at a roomy table. I ordered salmon, brown rice, and vegetables. I'm on a limited meal plan, so this was my only choice. It was good, but very bland. No salt, no flavor. My husband ordered a turkey burger and sweet potato fries, it was great. Other couple ordered the ribs and Mediterranean salad. Looked good, they enjoyed it, but both were sick the next day. I don't know what happened there. They also had the chocolate chip cookie and ice cream, which we didn't have. Babies had chicken strips and fries, those were great as well. I don't know what happened , but something was off with their food. Other than that, everything else was Ok. The parking is a pain, especially on a weekend. Not much parking near by, and it fills fast. read more

Wish I could give Barnaby's higher marks. The food was great! The staff was welcoming and friendly. But the reason for the 2 star deduction was a bit of kitchen/server challenges: delays in food delivery to table and mixups about delivering food to correct table. Our other concern is that they were packed, only one server wore a mask and there was little/no social distancing. We have had our vaccine, but with so many (including ourselves) without masks, a bit close, we are a somewhat uneasy. My suggestion: order to go; still great food but with a lot more protection during these uncertain times. read more

I placed an order for pickup. I ordered 3 grilled chicken breasts. One meal came without the chicken, only sides. I also ordered the BBQ chicken. It looked exactly the same as the grilled chicken, no BBQ sauce or seasoning or anything. I will not be coming back. Food is pretty bland anyway. read more

We came here for breakfast with friends from out of town and they were impressed. I got the green eggs and Apple sausage. The eggs were cooked perfectly. I thought the apple sausage with a little sweet but overall cooked well. My friend got the corn beef hash and he liked it. I forgot What everyone else got but I know they were pretty satisfied. Service was amazing, we got our food almost 5 minutes after we ordered it. We had allotted an hour and 15 minutes for a breakfast on our schedule but only took 45 minutes because the fast service. I'm needing to downgrade my previous rave review of the Heights location. The "new" Heights location located in Walmart world was icky last night. As in, felt dirty. Unappealing. I loved the first Heights location and am an original Barnaby's guy, but last night was just off. I'd have done 3 stars but I'm hoping last night was just an off night. The burger was cooked well well done and was dry as was the salmon. Please have the cook use a lighter touch on the grill. I'm sad to say but this was my worst Barnaby's experience in 25ish? years. It was like being way out in the burbs except for the cool Barnaby's Pride tshirts. If I didn't have prior and better knowledge I would not return. But I will and hope to find Barnaby's back in form. read more

Brunch on a Sunday in the heights is simple enough...until you forget football is on and Christians Tailgate is next door. Finding parking here was difficult, so I recommend coming here early on game days. As far as the actual place, Barnaby's is a cute diner (dog friendly) with a varied menu of burgers, plates, a little Tex mex and salads. For all of you snoozers, beware he breakfast menu stops at 11 AM, so get here early if you want pancakes and eggs. Luckily mimosas were still available and they had a strawberry lemonade mimosa. This was easily one of the tastiest mimosas I've ever had - at $6 for a full wine glass it's not a bad deal! I got the boca patty on the green Chile burger. The food was good, nothing special, but not bad. I appreciated the variety of vegetarian options and the giant portion sizes. The fries on the side were almost never ending - enough for my entire table to share. I'll be back to try the breakfast menu. read more

This place has a great variety of options from tuna burgers to homemade spinach and cheese lasagna. I ordered the chicken la Jolla, which has a chicken breast topped with a huge green pepper, mozzarella cheese, and pico serviced with black beans and brown rice. It was absolutely delicious and defiantly different then anything I've ever had! The service was great and although the plates are on the pricy side, the portions are huge so expect to take some home. read more

They sat us by the margarita machine and there was a lake coming out of the machine. Water everywhere and the employees made no attempt to mope it up or even apologies. Do NOT to to Barnaby's if you value your life! When I went to pick up my To-Go order from their location on Heights, the clerk was not wearing mask! It was around his neck. When he went to the table to pick the bag with my order, he was across a small table from me. I told him he wasn't wearing his mask. He said he didn't have to because he was behind a plastic shield. He was NOT behind the shield, which was only around the register. I pointed that out and asked him AGAIN to put on his mask and he REFUSED! I told him my wife has a kidney transplant and I need the manager to cancel my order. The manager, Juan, comes from the back and he is NOT wearing his mask either! It was below his nose and only covering his mouth, which is as good as being in his pocket. He refused to put his on until I asked 3 times and told him he's risking my life and my wife's! Tells me all I need to know about Barnaby's commitment to health and safety. Imagine what their kitchens look like. YUK!!!! read more
