Hands down one of the best restaurant experiences in my life. I have always loved Barnaby's. Everything I have ever had on the menu has been great. And there is a fantastic variety of choices. This location is in an awesome spot in the heights and the patio is excellent. I want to compliment the staff at this location. Everyone is so friendly and the service is top notch. After an extremely stressful day of trying to help a stray dog, we came here for dinner. We happened to strike up a conversation with our waiter about what had happened and before we knew it he brought out an appetizer that we had been debating ordering. Then multiple employees came out and chatted with us. To top it off, they comped some of our meal. THANK YOU BARNABYS CAFE! Liked my Torta de Tinga - yaay Mexican fusion - though just a warning: ask first if your order have a side of fries, I ended up ordering another side of sweet potato fries, which I guess they could have switched lol. Barnaby's is a great place if you are eating there; however, would not recommend trying to call in an order for pick up. Ever since they opened, they have consistently exhibited poor performance when it comes to phone orders (note there are no online orders either). I have to question myself personally as I keep going back (definition of insanity) but my wife likes the place so I guess I'll continue taking it. Today for example, the phone line was busy so I kept calling until I finally got through. Unfortunately it rings, rings and rings with no answer. It finally disconnects me and I call back fortunately they answer after approximately 10 rings. She puts me on hold so long that I actually drove there before she came back to the phone. Ive complained about this before and receive the same response: "We have only one line and hear this complaint all the time". Interesting is that nothing ever changes yet they are fully aware of the issue. And yes, I keep coming back. Maybe next time I'll let my wife handle it so she can feel the pain. Again, great place if you're eating there otherwise there are a million other restaurants if you are calling in the order for pick up. Follow up to above. Omg, I love to eat at this place. Great Food and the Wait Staff is awesome. Also friendly, and extremely courteous. I like to go during a weekday, so parking is not an issue. However, I am known to walk for blocks and blocks to eat here. This area has just grown so much, there you may experience a shortage of parking on the weekend. At any rate, it is totally worth it. A lot of people refer to it as 6th Street, comparable to Austin, TX. It is actually located on White Oak, in the Houston Heights. I love the chicken, the Cobb Salad, the desserts, so it is hard to have a favorite. They also serve a watermelon lemonade. I do not like regular lemonade at all. I tried it, and omg, it is so good. Now, every time I go to Barnaby's I have to a lemonade as opposed to iced tea. If you are in the area, stop in and enjoy. Oh it's also pet friendly. You can bring your pet, I mainly have only seen dogs, and enjoy your lunch/dinner on the patio with your best friend, your Canine. :) You can eat for under $10.00 per person, however, if you order the chicken or steak of course it will be more than $10. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, I'm like an uncool version of Ron Swanson. Barnaby's has one of the best breakfast menus in Houston. It's also a great place to go and eat with your dog. I love, love Barnaby's Cafe, i have been a loyal patron for over 15+ years!! This location was the biggest disappointment EVER!!!! Our server, well I have always tipped my servers, always especially since my eldest daughter (who was with me) is a Sommelier and worked in casual and fine dinning. I did not tip, I asked for water with lemon and never got it, then my daughter asked for water with lemon and two slices in the glass. Trash on the floor that everyone even the Manager walked over, napkins and straws on the floor for over an hour!! Finally on the way to visit the ladies room my 7 year old grand daughter picked up a straw to throw away!! She was so frustrated since we have never, ever seen a Barnaby's location so neglected, EVER!!! I have taken her to Barnaby's since she was 3 months and now 7 years!! Our favorite location is West Gray, a bit smaller but you feel as though everyone who works there is part of your extended family!! I will remain loyal to this location even if it means driving a little further... It is very clean but all of them are!!! Just not this one!!!!!!! Barnaby's has several locations Montrose, Shepard, W. Gray and even here downtown. But since I live in the Heights I wanted to try this one!! YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A BAD MEAL AT BARNABY'S!!! EVER!!! BUT THIS LOCATION YOU MIGHT HAVE BAD SERVICE!! The person who was walking around filling up water glasses on tables never filled mine. Our server brought our food to us and never once came back to see how it was!! The ladies room was a mess the trash was spilling over, the kitchen trash was also so high in the container!! I LOVE BARNABY'S BUT NOT THIS LOCATION!!!! I was talking to the manager after I had to go and ask for to-go boxes, our server literally disappeared after serving us!!! The lady at the counter kept offering us candy as I told the manager what a horrible experience it was. He did ask what he could do but it was too late!! Again the lady offering us candy... really!! If you are a loyal Barnaby's fan just remember not all locations are like this one!!! I can not speak for the other servers there and there may be a couple of great ones there, just not our server!! But the manager needs to step up to the other managers of Barnaby's that are clean and very well maintained!!!! read more

Needed a Friday dinner spot and this was perfect. Very kid friendly and the service was really good. The sweet potato fries were amazing. Not too many places get it right, but they definitely did! I had the salmon, rice and veggies of the day... portions were great nothing was skimped on for $15. I will definitely be going back and will try dessert.! read more

Egg salad sandwhich is BOMB it was kind of annoying between the breakfast and lunch shift though instead of being prepped like most places are they had us waiting for about 10 minutes before we could even order lunch and let us know we couldn't order brunch. No matter the time of day, the floors are always sticky and there is food on the floor under the tables. I went there yesterday at a slow time of day and there was not one place/table where my shoes did not stick to the floor and where there was not food in the chairs or on the floor. I was in town for a doctors appointment and had lunch at this location. The food, service and location are just amazing! Service was prompt and our waiter was terrific. I had the egg salad sandwich with chips and my partner had the club. Both were terrific; fresh and plentiful. I was amazed at their take on the traditional egg salad sandwich. The manager, Juan, came by and made sure we had everything we needed and checked on how we were enjoying the meal. The place was very busy and they were even able to contend with two large parties that walked in. If you are looking for great food; a great place and great pricing, then you definitely need to go by. I will be back again! read more

Excellent food all around. They even offer a chicken fried steak on Mon nights and my owner loves it. They are kind and bring me a water bowl on the patio with a doggie biscuit. The servers are always nice, I even like the goofy italian guy. I really enjoy the meatloaf bruscetta sandwich. My owner shared his leftovers with me the next day. The meatloaf is herbed and seasoned better than owner's mom does it. One star off for not actually letting me inside the restaurant. Dogs are people too! Barnaby's, at all of its locations and in all of its iterations (hello Luna Pizzeria) is my "home cooked" meal. As a native Houstonian, and as a patron of Barnaby's since I was very young, I really enjoy the consistency of quality, as well as the selection. I have probably tried everything on their menu, but I eat the Lebanese Fattoush Salad just about every week. Their hamburgers are always great and their sweet potato fries are crispy. My only complaint with this location is the parking is tight. If you are going to dinner when any of the other adjacent restaurants are running a special (usually Wednesdays), you have to go before 6pm to find parking easily (it can be done though, with patience and grit). Once inside, the servers are friendly and the food is good! read more

Had the hamburger it was pretty good. Friendly waiter and got drinks quickly. Food took at little longer but the wait was worth it. They bring cokes in a can but you still get free refills. Menu is decent size and really should have something for everyone. Even vegan stuff. I have been eating here atleast once a week now. Their great service is really why i come back. Pretty good food but not as great as other locations. Took my friends and got a waiter who we thought was gonna be great. As soon as he got a table of ten we never saw him again. We had to flag him down for our check and refills. He didn't bother asking if the check was going to be split and just left the ticket and walked off to deal with the big table. When we were signing our receipts one of my friends was going to leave tip in cash. He took her receipt back to the register and a minute later he came back red and obviously angry but tried to laugh it off. He asked if the service was bad and if there was anything he can do to make it better and we looked at him in confusion. He then brought up my friends receipt and said he did not see a tip so he was wondering if he had done something wrong. We were so flustered because mind you he's a big guy and has booming voice so all eyes were on us. My friend told him that she was leaving cash. We were so flustered and upset. I went to Barnaby's yesterday with a friend and have to say that this was by far my best experience ever. I had the flat iron steak and fries. I had this at another location and was not impressed. Yesterday, it was superb. The steak was cooked to perfection and the fries had just the right amount of crunch, and they were still hot. I want to commend our server Tom. He was professional and friendly, the epitome of customer service. He was never far from us and was very attentive. From now on, I will go to this location only. Disappointed. I love the other barnabys locations, this one not so much. Paid $10 to get one pancake with 5 blue berries on top and a few burnt ones on the bottom. It had no taste. Like eating straight flower. One of the servers was rolling silverware. She dropped a set she had rolled in a napkin on the floor and then picked it up and put it in with all the rest to give to a customer. All while standing in the dining area for everyone to see. Went there for dinner on a Tuesday night. Food was good but seems like they were very busy and service was off. Mostly the service is nice but when they get crowded, you may not see your server until you have to ask for the check. I got the Fattoush salad, which I subbed the chicken for salmon- it was grilled perfectly but not enough mint in the salad- just barely a hint- usually its much better. My son had the corndog and my husband had the blue cheese burger- all perfect. Wine and beer are just $2!! Not particularly allergy-friendly. I'm a nursing mom and my baby has a dairy allergy, so I have to avoid dairy in my own diet. When visiting Barnaby's for lunch, I was surprised to learn that not only does their classic vinaigrette salad dressing contain dairy (not even sure why or how), but also that all of the chicken on their menu is marinated in said dairy-containing vinaigrette. I'm grateful that I made sure to inquire with the waiter, as nothing on the menu would have led me to believe this was the case. I very much appreciate that the waiter was willing to communicate with the kitchen to find out exactly what was safe, but my meal - an all-veggie salad and bottles of oil/vinegar as my dressing - left a bit to be desired. I'm sure I'm not alone among people with allergies, vegans, etc...in wishing that things that SHOULD be dairy-free (i.e. "classic vinaigrette") be left dairy-free! read more

Pleasant decor, wine and beer (limited selection here) only -just FYI. We were a party of 6, they quickly arranged a group table for us and our waiter was obviously experienced and extremely entertaining! I wish I could remember names but he had a handle bar mustache, big guy. He MADE out dinner a fun experience. On to food. Four of my party are/were in the food services industry and all had wonderful things to say about: Flatiron steak-perfection! Pesto chicken salad sandwich - stuffed full and yummy! Artichoke Dip-better than my own! The rest of us had burgers and fries which is pretty hard to mess up - filling huge quantity of shoestring fries but they were barely warm. The blue cheese waffle fries, again not served hot, looked better than they tasted. Those two things are the reason I didn't give it a 5. I will definitely be back.
