I went here for the first time with my daughter. We sat down and than realized we needed to order down at the front of the restaurant. We received two tickets, and they call your number and you head back up to receive your salad and than your pizza. You order drinks down the counter from the food items. Our pizza order came up but our salad never did. Had to go up and ask if this was normal. Completely forgot our salad order. I love my pop/soda refills and while the cups are large, you still head back up to the counter for your refill. Pizza is good here but beware if you order anything from the grill. None of the cooks wear gloves while preparing the food. Was there on a Saturday evening which tends to be a busy time. While waiting at the counter for an order I saw the cook handle buns, toasted bread and fries pretty much everything with his bare hands as he plated the food. Saw him wipe his hands on his apron, on his pants as well. YUCK!!I thought it was required by the health dept to use gloves when touching food. Don't be fooled. You can't enjoy pizza you never get. I grew up in SB on Barnaby's but returning the last THREE times from out of town, they have misplaced my pizza order. With order cards that go numerically, you'd think they would double check if they are announcing pizza 712 but haven't said 701 yet. They can't be nicer about refunding etc but, there are not enough failsafes to make sure that pizzas get actually processed and to the right person. I'll miss you Barnaby's. read more

This is for MISHAWAKA location ONLY. Customer, starting in Illinois 40 years ago. The ordering process is a long wait. The staff is the MOST unfriendly around. They act as if your bothering them with an order. Two pizzas, one cheese and one 1/2 pepperoni $45.00. Seems like a lot to me. Ordering drinks was a nightmare. Very long line and people are trying to get thru you to get their food and then pass thru you with the food. The pizza is hit or miss - sometimes overcooked. Many times there is next to no sauce. This visit I had 4 littles with me and the whole process from rude staff at ordering, long wait for drinks, then back to get plates and napkins, while trying to keep my eye on four little kids. Will go back to my regular on Jefferson Street where the personnel seems to be a bit happier and pizza is more consistently good. read more

Our go to place for pizza. I'm pretty picky about pizza and all my local places are bad. So we order about once a month, if not more often. Never had a bad pizza. We always get a special, onions, mushroom, green pepper and sausage. Then we sometimes get a pepperoni or zucchini. The zucchini can be bland but that's the nature of the vegetable. This is an interesting place. Based off of the reviews we were hoping to find our new go to pizza place while we lived in the area but sadly that didn't turn out. When you walk in the place is completely windowless and there are mainly two person booth tables. Instead of a waiter you order at the front and pick it up there as well. (Copied verbatim from a review I posted to their Facebook page a few days ago) Went here earlier today, and it will be the first and last time I eat at this location. I ordered a pizza to go, went to the bathroom, and while I was washing my hands, I watched an employee walk straight out of the bathroom stall and out of the bathroom without as so much as even thinking about washing his hands. Naturally, I was disgusted. I went and asked the lady working the register if your employees regularly use the bathroom without washing their hands after, and she apologized and suggested I go talk to the manager (owner? I didn't catch his name) working the bar. I walked over to the bar, and the employee I watched leave the bathroom was loudly complaining to the manager about me mentioning his health code violation to the cashier lady. I mentioned to him that this sort of thing was unacceptable, to which he started to argue with me about. After a little while of this, the manager sent him away and attempted to excuse his behavior by saying that he didn't wash his hands by saying that the aforementioned employee didn't wash his hands in the bathroom because he (the employee) didn't want to "get in anyone's way", and "probably washed his hands in the sink located in the kitchen". Regardless, this is unacceptable and the St. Joseph County health inspector will be hearing about this. read more

Best damn pizza in South Bend! This isn't one of those trendy Domer joints. This is the real deal. I once took a 20 minute poo in this place. I had to make more room for this awesome pizza. Another cool thing is that you fill out your own order card. I always dig down to ticket number 666 just so I can hear them say "Pizza Number 666, your pizza is ready." Barnaby's is my favorite pizza of all time, and couldn't recommend more highly. Their toppings are hearty, their crust is delicious, and their signature parmesan and herbs mix is just awesome. All this combined with a cool, old-fashioned interior - think mood-lit pub - makes it an awesome place to dine-in, and the pizza alone makes it a great take-out option any time. I regularly tell people Barnaby's in SB is my favorite pizza anywhere. Awful experience tonight. On our way to a show at Morris we wanted to have dinner at Barnaby's. We waited 15 minutes to order and another 45 minutes before I went up to see how much longer it would be for our pizza. People that came in after us were getting theirs. They LOST OUR ORDER. I'm from South Bend, been here countless times and I've never been disappointed. The crust is one of the best crusts I've ever had on a pizza. Whenever I go home I usually make it a point of going here. Very reasonably priced, last I can remember around 13 or 14 bucks for a multiple topping pizza. And they usually give you a $1 discount for no real reason. Very unusual but fun atmosphere, its very dim inside and has the feel of a real old style pub. Great prices on beer. A great place to eat and hang out with friends. Overall, a place that I would quickly recommend to anyone who likes pizza. The only place in South Bend that is good enough to give it competition would be Rocco's, which I also like very much. But if I were forced to choose between the two, Barno's would win every time. read more

I actually forgot all about this place. A waitress (see The Vine) recommended to me as one of the best pizza places in South Bend. She is right. The pizza is between thin and deep dish crust cut in squares. They don't skimp on ingredients or cheese. They make the pizzas in this big oven and you can even watch them making the dough, crust and the entire pizza while you wait. The restaurant is kinda old testament brew house buts its cool enough. They have a big menu of other stuff besides pizza but I cannot vouch cuz I haven't tried anything else. Use to go to Barnaby's on Jefferson after the football games at School Field ~ about 40 years ago. Back in town to help my mom move and we ordered a Ruby's Veggie and wings to-go, just like the good old days! Walking in brought back a flood of memories. They had a terrible night! We called in our order and were told it would be ready in 30 minutes. Wrong! After 1 hour our order was "ready". Great, except we were missing one of the pizzas we ordered. We were told we could wait, or get a coupon for a free pizza. We opted for the coupon. ANOTHER problem. The cashier refused to honor giving us the coupon since "she wasn't told about it". That sweet sauce and homemade sausage makes for a great tasting pizza!The prices here is pretty easy on a college student's wallet, which is always a win for me! The medieval decor gives this place a lot of character as well. My only complaint might be the fact that seating can be really hard to find when it's packed as it sort of becomes a free for all. Crunchy, corn meal bottom crust which reheated really well in the microwave. It didn't get soggy. Fresh toppings. Pretty good pizza. They also have some soups, salads and sandwiches as well as beer. Barnaby's in hands down one of the best pizza places in South Bend. The ambiance: Barnaby's is super dark and cozy. It's filled with old wooden booths and the chandeliers cast a yellow glow throughout. You definitely won't find many places in the Bend like this. It's usually pretty packed and you have to get there super early on home game weekends or you'll be standing for the night. The service: This place is a little weird when it comes to ordering, but it works for them, you just have to know the drill. There are three main lines: a pizza line, an appetizer/sandwich line and a beer line. The third being most important, obviously. You have to pay at the pizza window for your pizza/salad/sandwich then they give you a little ticket with a "P" or and "S" along with a number on each. You go to the designated pizza - "P" or sandwich - "S" area and pick up your food when your number is called. Once you've snagged a booth and have your tickets you go to the drink counter and get a huge pitcher of beer or soda, both reasonably priced. The food: It goes without saying this is a fabulous pizza place. We always get an order of garlic bread with cheese ($4 for the large) a "make your own salad" ($2, they have a little salad bar by the sandwich pick up) and special #2 pizza ($18.65). That is my personal recommendation for an excellent Barnaby's meal. Overall: I don't think many people leave Barnaby's feeling disappointed. It is definitely one of South Bend's gems and is a great stop to make on Notre Dame football weekends. read more

Barnaby's was a let down for me. We got a sausage, mushroom and green pepper pizza which I did not like at all. The crust was over baked on the bottom and very yeasty. The sauce was way too runny and bland. The toppings were generously packed on but the pieces of sausage were huge and overwhelming. I honestly think Domino's pizza would've been better, and cheaper. If you want a nice local relatively inexpensive pizza place, Rocco's has my vote. That being said, the service here was very good and I liked the low-key almost bar-like atmosphere. Still, I will not be returning next time my pizza cravings hit. read more
