Pete seemed great at first until he was late getting back to us with an estimate. First of all, that "estimate" came from another company with no mention of the word "solar" or "barnes" in it. How stupid is that? Sorry but I get a ton of emails every day and this one looked like a virus attachment so I nearly missed it. Then onto the estimate itself. They used bills from our old house (1000 sq ft bigger) since we haven't gotten a bill yet at our new house. The layout proposal was inaccurate but he insisted that the google map was accurate. Sorry guys, trees now shade some of the areas you wanted to use. I told him this estimate was not going to work in any way. Someone has to come out to figure out something more accurate. He proceeds to tell me he won't send anyone out to estimate until a deal is made?? WOW. You aren't going to get much business this way... Insane policy if I ever heard one! There are a ton of solar companies out there, ALL of them are willing to come to our house to get a more accurate estimate. We're not going to get anything installed until we get our first bill since we need to be accurate on our energy needs. Doesn't that make sense? Pete didn't seem to think so! Yeah I would NOT recommend this company. Pete seems only interested in trying to prove how "real" and experienced he is as opposed to actually addressing problems. After 9 months of exploring solar options with larger, nationwide solar companies with terrible customer service, non-transparent pricing, and a complete lack or urgency, we found Barnes through a neighborhood referral. In my Opinion I would not use Barnes Solar! On my job they cut corners like not replacing the service panel flashing when they upgraded my service? My house is 56 years old and they left the old banged up flashing! Who does that? Then when called on it they have given me nothing but grief and no satisfaction like doing the right thing and just admitting a mistake was made and replacing it! It may be watertight now but will it be for the remaining life of my roof which I hope will be 25 years? Thumbs down from me! read more

Ya know when you have a bad mechanic, and then you find a good one? I bought a house a while ago with a Big Solar Rig, installed by a loud company in the Community. The warranty transferred to me, wich was cool until I started to need help. The Loud Company (not gonna name them as I'm not that guy) basically "ghosted" me regarding much needed repairs and up grades. Wifey and I went on the "3 bids" journey, but never got past Barnes Solar. Mike and Ryan came out and answered every question without the "Used Car Dealer" crap many companies employ, so we stopped and used Barnes. 1- good people provide good service. Everyone we encountered was into helping us. 2- Keep your word! Job was on price, on schedule and true to everything we were told. 3-Happy Customers provide future revenue. While installing the upgrade, several problems were uncovered due to the original installation, all addressed, all repaired, additional cost $0. I'm very satisfied with going through barnes solar to have my system installed. I decided to call them from a friends recommendation and i'm so happy I did. From the beginning and throughout the planning, installation and follow up Mike was always informative, kept me updated regularly through texts and emails, and was very nice and professional. I did get quotes from larger more established companies but felt their sales people were more interested having me sign the contract to get the sale done without any assurances that they'd be there to make things smooth with the installation. With Mike its more about the customer and making sure their needs are met and that they're informed throughout the whole process. My system is working perfectly, looks great and I feel if there are any issues in the future Mike will definitely be there to make sure things get taken care of. My wife and I recently worked with Mike at Barnes Solar as we were looking at options for adding solar to our re-roof project. From the moment I spoke with him on the phone he was very thorough and honest with me about what my options were, where all the potential costs would arise, and what steps to take prior to even beginning the project in order to maximize the value for us in the long term. He spent over 30 minutes with me just on the phone consultation asking all the pertinent questions and helping me determine what I'd need. I called several other companies and only got very short answers and was often left with more questions than solutions. Mike personally came out to look at our roof and give us our estimate and spent a lot of time explaining everything to my wife. He even had a near accident tripping over my dog (who found him very friendly as well- he laid down right at his feet!) and he took it all in stride and even was able to laugh about it. Finally, I selected local company Barnes solar due to their response time, transparency, 25yr warranty on equipment+ service , quote and guarantee to finish work on given quote (if extra , they will pay as my budget is fixed) . Their Service and my experience from start to end was great. I worked with Jack at Barnes Solar. They took care my HOA, city ,SCE form and approvals OR in other word, they took care everything. Workmanship of crew and electrical personnel was better than I expected. Very friendly , professional and honest in communication. They made suggestions from experience for all equipment location/ plan and where to run electric pipes which I changed a bit and approved. Ever hear the oft-used phrase, " No one's perfect"? Well, count that as a myth now. Following much research, and several bids, ( AND one scorching summer/fall with electric bills soaring into the $500's even with thermostat at 80), we settled with the company who not only used aerial google photos, but "old school style", actually put a guy on the roof to check the way the sun hit the roof in consideration of our giant shade trees; human sundial fashion; Ricky reset the " typical" position to an array that would bring the best benefit specific for our site. Ricky also advised not over buying panels and his calculations have proven near exact. (This guy's good!) We had a bit extra produced energy, received a small check from Edison, so easily added a Tesla. Still covered. Yep, Barnes Solar sent the best, most professional squad to install the new system, electric panel, as well as the most recent addition, a Tesla charger much thanks to Jose who set that up, with exceptional skill, cleanup and professionalism. I got my first solar estimate for my residence without knowing much about solar from one of the biggest solar companies out there. Along with giving me an exuberant price, their array for my house would have only offset 50-60% of my annual electrical usage. I am so glad I decided to get other quotes. I then did months of research learning about solar before getting other quotes, let alone getting solar panels placed on my house. I am so glad I did because after getting six quotes I found Barnes to be a breath of fresh air. We looked into solar about 8 months ago and looked at a number of neighborhood recommendations. I know I wanted to pay cash for a good quality system and installation and not sign up for a lease so I wanted an honest assessment of ROI. Honestly our usage wasn't that high but I felt like we should jump on our options to contain costs now while net metering still is an option. Jake came out and gave up a run down of our options and since we were not quite ready I mentioned we would reach out in the spring when we had the finances ready. No pressure! When the time came I got the process started and within 8 weeks we were operational and producing a net negative energy bill! Now our electricity is effectively free and our ROI will likely be even faster than projected. Barnes Solar managed the permit and HOA process and made everything as smooth and quick as possible. I think even the county inspection guy was impressed with Barnes work. It was an easy process for us and our system looks a lot better than the neighborhood installations from other folks like Solar City.
