I usually take my car to Costco for winter/summer tire swaps, but given the positive reviews, I thought I'd give Barnsley a try. They were efficient, professional, and friendly. I watched the guy do the work and he was attentive to detail, noting that two of my wheels are slightly bent (he put them on the rear). I waited while the work was done and the listened as the staff treated everyone with the same level of courtesy and professionalism. If you need a used tire to save a little cash, you should also strongly consider them. Plus great pickles... p.s. they hand torque the lug nuts and use torque wrenches to check the wheels are tightened to spec (i.e. no overtorqued lug nuts). read more

Well, let's say that when I dropped about $5K on a big ass service on my 7yo buggy back in September (admittedly first real money I'd spend since I bought her), I wasn't really in the mood to stretch for a new set of shoes as well. Turns out I didn't go up the mountains once this season, which is just as well being that the tires were basically shot to the point of being illegal. Decided around noon today I'd look into getting new tires, expecting it might take a while (days, a week?) being that it's not a super common tire size, did a bit of research online, and turns out that Barnsley was all of two blocks from my house. You've read all the other reviews. This is the best experience you're ever going to have in anything car-related your whole life. Went in, got Mr. Barnsley himself I believe, he went out and took a look at the buggy, tossed out a few options, recommended a set that I'd been thinking about (cheaper than I'd seen advertised at the major chains), jumped immediately on the phone to the warehouse to see if they could be put on the 2pm delivery (this is about 1.45pm), told me to leave the keys, and the car was set at 4pm. Walked over to pick up, and Mr. Barnsley came out and did a bit of an inspect, chatted to me about the characteristics of these particular tires and why they were such a bargain, quick tangent about winter tires and when I might want to do that, and then I was on my way. Again, best car-related experience I've ever had. Highly, highly recommended. I have to want you if you are a Tire Rack customer. I had a set of wheels and tires already mounted and balanced sent to them for installation. This is a 20-minute job. I called to schedule an installation and was quoted two weeks out (12/28). When I expressed surprise give the quick nature of my installation, she was very unconcerned. When I told her I was going to have Tire Rack pick up the tires, she hung up on me. I have never seen anything like it. Oh my goodness. What excellent service. No need to go anywhere else in Boulder. My friend and I both got work done on our cars here today (flat tires), and picked Barnsley because of its excellent reviews and easy location. We were not disappointed. Her car was done by the time she woke up (she had dropped it off after hours the night before). They not only replaced the stripped lug nuts on her flat tire, but also the stripped ones on all her other tires as well, without being asked to. (AAA had been unable to remove any of them). And what a fair price!!! They removed a very large screw from her tire, patched the hole, and gave her new lug nuts for around $50. I was so impressed that I took my car there as well. It was a very busy Friday afternoon. The front desk looked like they had a lot going on, but the lady was incredibly friendly and efficient. I dropped off my car with a spare tire on it, and the flat in the trunk. I was told it would be about an hour. It took a little longer, but when I went to pick it up again, they had comped my entire repair! The spare was tucked away in the back and my old tire was patched perfectly with no charge to me. Long story short, I will absolutely be back. Even if my repair hadn't been free, their excellent customer service alone and speedy repair times will keep me coming back as long as I'm in Boulder. I needed to know the condition of my front brake pads and asked for a visual inspection while the wheels of my van were removed for balancing. The mechanic forgot to look, I'm told, and I'll need to return another day. Returned the next day, a very busy day for me, and watched the tech begin inspecting the back brakes, after telling two people that I needed the fronts checked. While I'm speaking with the tech, he continues to remove lug nuts and when the wheel cover is loose, he lets it just it drop onto the floor, rather than removing it and setting it aside. Front brakes inspected and I pick up my van, clean the greasy handprints from the white paint on the side, and leave. A few days later I'm on the freeway and the wheels are hopping. I take the van to another shop and pay 30.00 to have the wheels re-balanced. They find one wheel 2oz off and re-balance three wheels before they're done. I trusted Barnsley until this episode, but, never again. read more

After yesterday's snowstorm, I plowed my own and several neighbors' sidewalks. At the end of my street, I suddenly lost pressure in one tire. I used a bicycle pump, compressed air tank and tried filling it up with air at Boulder Gas... no dice. I went to Barnsley upon the recommendation of a mechanic at Grease Monkey. The waiting room was busy but as soon as he was free, a man at the counter asked me how he could help. I showed him the tire and told him what I had tried. He said that he could put air in the tire and if that didn't work, could order an inner tube, replace the valve and have it ready the next day. He explained that gas station air compressors don't generate enough pressure to fill a flat tubeless tire. He took the tire and about five minutes later came back and said that the tire was up front ready to go. He theorized that when I started using the snowblower, the pressure on that tire was probably low and that the tire had become unseated and lost pressure. I asked how much I owed him and he said there was no charge. Kudos to this man for his wonderful service and helpful attitude! I had not gone to Barnsley before but I will be back! read more

This place is so great. I had been told a few weeks ago by Chrysler (Boulder) that I needed new rear shocks on my Jeep, which only has 60k on it. The estimate was over $500. This seemed high to me so I went over to Barnsley and the man that helped me gave me an estimate just over $300, and he went out and looked at the shocks as he agreed, that seemed odd that I would need new ones so soon. He said only one rear shock was leaking and that I could wait a little longer if I wanted. Really a great place, I get my tires here and they are always helpful and courteous to me. Weary of salespeople, I had meticulously researched snow tires before stopping by Barnsley tire for the first time in November 2010. I stopped in with low expectations but a friend's recommendation was nothing but praise. By coincidence I met Sam Barnsley at the counter on a very busy holiday weekend when everyone in town seemed to be switching over to snow tires for the winter. Sam's genuine manner and kindness made me feel instantly comfortable. He took the time to talk to me about my car, my driving habits and my concerns for snow and ice before recommending my options. I forgot all my research, trusted his guidance and made a choice. Then I found his price to be about $100 cheaper than the out-the-door price of the chain tire place I was headed to next. The tires he recommended are excellent - I can't have fun sliding in the snow as they (Bridgestone Blizzaks on a Honda Fit) grip too well. I expect to return to Barnsley in the spring to switch back to a new set of low resistance all season tires. Barnsley Tire is an old-school, locally owned family business. You won't find fancy graphics on their building or a pretty website, but a long list of friends in Boulder say they've been getting the same friendly experience I received for years. After big problems with Firestone service centers, on Staten Island and in Boulder, we are so happy to find honest mechanics with integrity! Our brother-in-law highly recommended Barnsley Tire Co. to us, and we are happy he did. Both Staten Island Firestone and Boulder Firestone recommended that we had to replace all the struts (shocks) on our car immediately. We took our car to Barnsley for a front end alignment to find out what parts were needed besides the struts. Barnsley told us we don't need struts, just upper strut plates! They said the struts did not need replacing (Firestone Boulder estimate: $1,300) As we are on a budget, our brother-in-law and my husband replaced the upper strut plates themseves, and then we bought four new tires from Barnsley, had the front end aligned and we are good to go! I made a mistake and accidentally did not label my keys according to Sam Barnsley's specifications and was reprimanded and yelled at for over 20 minutes while trying to pay. Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced at any location of any kind. I could have just been told I made a mistake and the correct action to take in the future however the owner was the rudest person I've ever met and took it upon himself to raise his voice yell and carry on for 20 minutes. read more

I have nothing but good things to say about my experience at Barnsley today. If you've been following along with my tire saga, you'll know that I've been trying to get my snow tires switched on to my car for the past week, only to be teased repeatedly by Tire Source, my former tire service center (see Tire Source review for full info there). I finally decided that I could no longer continue offering my business there, and found Barnsley on Yelp. Similar to what appealed to me about Tire Source, Barnsley is family owned, long-time local business - I called them and they offered the same price as Tire Source (Discount Tire Co was $20 more starting, and they couldn't even guarantee it wouldn't be more than that.). However, here's the big difference for me - They take appointments! Although in this high-season I had to wait nearly a week, I was glad to wait rather than be told "sure bring it in" repeatedly only to be turned away. I thought about calling last night to verify my appointment (you never know what each business' interpretation of the word "appointment" is) but was too exhausted to deal with it. And yet! The experience couldn't have gone more smoothly. -I dropped it off on my prescribed day at 6:45am, slipped my keys through their dedicated slot in the envelope provided, with a note with instructions and phone number (they open at 8am). -Received a phone call at 2pm (incidentally the time they had quoted to me on the phone five days prior and the time I had written on my card as the time for completion) saying my car was ready. -Was dropped off at 5:15pm after work, went right up to the counter and was helped by one of the owners with no wait, despite how busy it looked and how many customers were around, they had enough people to handle the volume. Very friendly - Got my receipt, and charged me exactly what they had quoted to be the price. As I was organizing myself to leave, I stopped to tell him how much I appreciated the work they did and especially the fact that they offered appointments. He smiled and acknowledged that he was the only place he knew of in town to do so and he was glad it helped. As I walked out he waved goodbye and said he was thankful for my business and hoped he'd see me again. Seriously, it was that goofily wonderful. I'll be taking all my tire business to Barnsley from now on. read more

As a broke grad student, I took several flat tires to Barnsley and went to them when I needed rotations and basic stuff. When I went for my wallet, I was simply told to come see them when I needed tires and given a friendly smile. As a less broke working stiff, I took my car to Tires Plus in Arvada to get an oil change and was told that their 42-point inspection had discovered leaking struts. They quoted me over a thousand dollars to do the work. I took it to Barnsley for a second opinion and was told that, nope, the struts are fine, no leaks at all - but come back when you need some tires. Your mileage may vary, as the saying goes. Don't go there expecting free service. But I'll tell anybody willing to listen to go see 'em when they need tires - and I need some tires right now, and they're getting my business over Tire Rack or any of the crappy chains. They're good, honest people and they deserve every cent. read more

I knew about this trick, and wasn't falling for it, but the salesman was so insistent that he actually would not price out just one. I had recently had a service on my car, at which time the dealership told me my tires were just fine. After asking some friends about tire shops that would not try to take advantage of me, there seemed to be only one answer: Barnsley. The guys at Barnsley treated me with respect, and actually took the time to diagnose my flat, rather than just telling me I needed four new tires after a cursory glance. After I had a hissy fit for the deceptive business at Discount Tires, I slammed the iphone down on them and called Barnsley. I was pretty worked up and agitated and probably yelled at the guy who answered the phone. I explained why I was so angry (got duped by Discount Tires) and he was calm and gracious. Even though I didn't buy my tires at Barnsley he extended the return customer rate for a tire exchange. Today I brought my car there and it was done in less than an hour, slightly less than the hour I was quoted. Seems like a decent business and I will return for my tire needs. read more

I brought my Subaru Outback in to get the tires rotated. On the positive side, they were very fast (45 minutes) and they did it free! The woman just told me to buy my next set of tires there. And she said that my tires were good for several more years. On the negative side, they didn't adjust the air pressure. Subaru recommends keeping the front tires two pounds higher then the rear tires, so when you rotate the tires you need to adjust each tire's pressure. And the next morning when I adjusted the tire pressure (best done when the tires are cold) I found that a mud flap was hanging on by one of the three bolts. The mechanics could have easily fixed this while the wheel was off. I struggled for most of a hour trying to fit tools into a tight space, find the right size bolts and washers in my garage, etc. I would rather have paid them to fix this. My impression was that they work so fast that they don't look for things that need to be fixed. And I was about to e-mail them this review but their website doesn't list an e-mail address. read more

I so much appreciate the used tire in excellent condition that they gave to me, only charging $20 for mounting the tire on my old rim.
