Changing my review due to blatant theft and lack of reimbursement. Upon receiving my bill, there were 3 extra drinks. The waitress knew immediately without even looking at the receipt. I would say that's odd, but this was not the first time I've experienced wait staff trying to get away with adding extra drinks; with a true mistake they would typically double check the bill. She suggested it was a mistake and the drinks were added from a different table. In a bare restaurant the table to the left was babysitting a beer for a long time and to the right nobody was drinking, let alone the shots that were added to my bill. We didn't sign anything yet at this point, and she came back with a different bill that did not have a slot to add a tip, however the total amount was corrected. Perhaps she was embarrassed with getting caught? We paid the bill, then we left. A couple days later I checked my credit card statement which was $30 more than the bill I paid. We called and the manager said she remembered us and that they add on their own tip. ( Without permission? Seriously? Should I start adding tips too when I'm charging people? Is that even legal? That's theft.) A solid 20%. Without signature, without permission. After the waitress tried to rip us off, they had the audacity to add on $30. It's been 11 days now, she said she can't reimburse us, that she has to do it through the bank/processor. 11 days and still nothing. Yet somehow every other business I've encountered was able to offer reimbursement immediately. Check your bills and check your statements because they like to add on items and add charges to your card days later. read more

Horrible service the waitress kept rushing our order, I had a few questions about how a drink was made she gave me absolutely no info on it I said ok I'll take it and she showed up with drinks for everyone but me, Mu wife's first drink was made with lime and our swims drinks took about 20 minutes for us to get them after we ordered, they did not put limes in it and my wife asked if she could bring us lime that never happened she passed us a few times and never brought us limes, the music was really bad as they had a problem with the speaker so they took off the music in the back room we where in, we where sat by a door and one of the employees went out for a smoke and left the door open right by our table I will never go back two thumbs down read more

The two biggest reasons to come to Ñ are the empanadas and the cocktails! If you're into a club atmosphere, then that's another reason to come! I'm a huge fan of appetizers with my drinks, so I love coming here to have empanadas, maybe some fries, and their delicious Caipirinha! Mmmmm... I usually come between the time they open and 9pm because any time after that, it's a Latin club, and it just isn't something I'm into. However, on nights where they have soft live music, I love it! I say 4.5 stars. Only problem is it is in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. Not easy to get to, but 2 bus rides and walk through a somewhat strange neighborhood led us to "N" We walked in and I definitely felt like I was in a discoteca in Spain or South America. It had those kind of bad tile floors and turquiose painted walls, but do not be fooled. Once the sun goes down and the little votives light up, the mood changes. Loud fun music and the best mojitos you'll have will have you wanting mas! My boyfriend and I shared the empanadas, the ensalada del mar, and tortilla espanol. Yum, yum and YUM. The ensalada del mar is basically a plate of sauteed squid with lots of lemon and olive oil, but it was delicious. Then we just split the "vacio" steak on the grill. I want to start saying that this place has changed, I used to hang at this place and has changed for BAD; the whole concept for "ñ" was for latin place so we could listen to NOT the ordinary music and had a blast with Live Rock Band that used to play great songs; The Crowed used to be young professionals MOSTLY from South America, great educated people. Yesterday I asked to some friends to come to this place and I've told them that how great it is, guess what I was wrong!... The place was empty (bad sign) gradually started to get filled, but the music was BAD, BAD and BAD... This was not a latin place, it was so ghetto... The DJ was horrible played 90% English music and in 3 hours 2 Salsa songs which by the way seemed that the small crowed felt like dancing more than the crap he was playing, RAP are u kidding me??? The food did not check it out, but drinks were great but EXPENSIVE!!! Overall: I won't go again, and won't recommend.... SHAME ON YOU " ñ " !!! read more

This used to be one of my favorite spots. I went there last week for my birthday and had a horrible experience. Bar tenders took care of their friends first, then served everyone else second. I kept my mouth shut for a while, but after being ignored for a drink for at least 20 minutes, I had to say something. I invited a small crowd to have a good time, and instead we had a frustrating time. I knew ahead of time that the small place does get packed, but when the bar tender starts ignoring you for obvious reasons, that just pisses one off. I sucked it up and went back a week after and figured it was just a one time thing, with a rude bar tender, and I was wrong. This time, it was to celebrate my brothers job promotion and what a mistake we made in coming here. Same crappy service with a rude crowd. I had a patron get made when I kindly asked for my seat back after returning for the bathroom. People were pushing people into other people just to get around. Never had this problem ever until these last two weeks. This time, it was a different bar tender, only she did what the previous bar tender did the week before - favor her friends. The music used to be good the whole night. Now, they play electro in between band sets. If I wanted to go to a place that played electro, I'd choose a much bigger place with more bartenders. Ill start by saying that this instantly became one of my favourite spots in the entire city to chill and eat after going there for the first time yesterday. This place brought me back to the dimly lit live music spots in Buenos Aires/Rio where you would hear some quality music and dance. Was a bit out of the way, and kind of cramped but this cool little lounge reminded me of Astoria, Queens (NY). I was there on a Tuesday (technically now Wednesday by the time I arrived) for their Brasilian party. Saw the hottest body I witnessed in Chicago on a girl with white pants on (too many flat booties everywhere I went), which is always a nice way to spend an evening... except that girl I was there with didnt like Brazilian music, so we didnt stay very long. Looking for something intimate and romantic? Well, I suppose that depends on your definition of romantic. Dim lights? Yes. Intimate space? Yes. Tiny in fact. Just a few tables sprinkle the front entrance, which leaves a large space for mostly standing room. However, don't plan on having deep, intimate conversatoins across the table. This place gets loud. Live music starts in the back room at 10:30 on Tuesdays, but speakers adorn the entire place. I suppose this is good for those who want to snuggle up to their date and whisper in their ear. We started at the bar, with friendly bartenders and attentive service. The mojitos were a favorite in our group. Classic ingredients with a twist - an addition of coconut! I had the Cuba Libre, which was decent. I'm a Miami girl, so the Cuba Libre is my drink of choice. I've had better, but this certainly wasn't the worst I've tasted. We also tried the Mango Picado - tequila, cointreau, mango, lime, and hot sauce. With those ingredients, we had to try it. I have to say, I couldn't drink more than one, but it was an interesting taste. It was a bit like a bloody mary with the hot sauce, but had that hint of fresh fruit taste thanks to the mango. Definitely worth a try given it's originality. Shortly thereafter we moved to the back room right at 10:30, when the band started, which meant that all the tables were taken (all, meaning about 7 or 8). But, we didn't wait too long before a table got up and we were able to sit down. The crowd was low-key at first, as was the band. As the night went on, and the music got livelier, so did the crowd. It filled quickly, which meant you couldn't stand, or sit, without someone bumping into you. However, everyone was having a great time, and the band was phenomenal, so an occasional tap or jab didn't matter. This bar also happens to serve food, which is nice. We ordered a round of empanadas, both chicken and spinach. The chicken ones were good, the spinach were outstanding. If you've had the empanadas at Tango Sur, then you know what I mean. The menu is limited, but offers authentic dishes at a reasonable price. And, the kitchen stays open until 1am, which is good for those who build up an appetite from excessive booze and excessive exercise on the dance floor. Only downfall? Service is extremely slow. They either need to hire more staff behind the bar, or come up with a better system, because at times we were waiting 30 minutes for a drink to show up. That did put a little damper on the evening. One warning: wait as long as possible to break the seal. The bathrooms don't hold up too well as the night progresses. If you can manage to hold your breath for the time it takes you to go, more power to you! All-in-all it was a fun night. Good music, good friends, and good food/drinks. Wouldn't be my number once choice of bar, but if I was looking to hear some great live music in an intimate setting, I would definitley head here. read more

Great food, cool ambiance, good price. At 6pm on Friday night this place is empty, but by 9pm it's packed. The back dining room is nice, with sofas and couches and candles - which you'll need 'cos they dim the room pretty good. The empanadas appetizer (beef, chicken, spinach and ham+cheese wrapped in deep-fried batter, $8) is excellent. It's a meal by itself. The berenjena-cena (eggplant, $11) has a nice, tangy sauce on top, while the vacio (grilled flat meat, their most popular dish, $13, a steal) is easily one of the best steak I've had. Slightly crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside, and it's HUGE. The mojito has a strong mint and lemon flavor which I love. And make sure you leave room for their flan! There's street/lot parking by the building. After dinner you can burn off all the calories by heading over to Galaxie (2 blocks north) and dancing all night - if there's an event. read more

I love N.........why? The drinks are delicious, my favorite is the coconut mojito which could quite possibly be the best mojito I've ever had. The assorted empanadas ARE the best I've ever had! All of them- the spinach, ham, chicken, beef, etc etc are so freakin good. Usually I'm not a big fan of chimichurri sauce but their version of it is good enough to drink! no lie... The music - very unique and fun. The ambiance - real chill, relaxed and perfect if you're just tryin to hang out with someone and have a few drinks. I debated heavily what rating to give this place. I had a good time but my night was a little crazy. Alright so as everyone has said parking is easy. Ñ sits on a little corner in a quieter side of town. If you're not careful you'll probably drive right past it. The interior is dark. I'm not sure how the bartenders know what they're mixing it's so dark, candle light is the best you get in the front room. The mojitos are great, haven't tried the flavored varieties but the original is probably the best I've ever had. On Saturday night it was pretty dead until 12 then this place gets packed. Have always wanted to try this minuscule place on the corner. This place is so tiny, you might miss it if you blink. Or sneeze. I'm not a mojito kinda gal, until I tried their mango one. OH. EM. GEE. The mint is so refreshing, and the booze keeps me wanting more. Ordered the empanadas, which were quite tasty. The 'mar', which is a small appetizer of mixed seafood sautéed with olive oil was perfect. I ordered the breaded chicken, tho that one wasn't as fantastical to jump off a cliff to. The bf got the steak, which was definitely something worth slapping yo mama! Overall, the bill was worth it. Loved the samba music they played-- Very mellow and classy. Something Astrud Gilberto, Stan Getz, or I would love. Unfortunately, they ended up changing it to some ghetto big booty music. The only reason I rated this place is because there was a drink there called La Piña which was good, besides that everything was horrible. I don't understand how this place is open. Food was horrible and let's not even start about the service. Big mistake coming here, we had a large group about 25 people that almost filled out the back room and for some reason they couldn't get the speakers to work and no one even bothered in apologizing or telling us they are working on it... We just kept asking what's going on with the music and no one would respond... I guess there was no manager on Friday jan 4th??? Uninviting outside look, yet comfortable atmosphere inside. The empanadas are a must try! I would recommend having them as an appetizer and highly recommend the ham & cheese and the corn & cheese. We also tried the beef which was good, though not much to it (just filled with ground beef and some onion). IMPORTANT: You get 6 empanadas and they are cooked where you can literally rip them in half - so if you only want to 'try' one of the options you don't have to order 2. This is a great little bar. Very trendy, welcoming, and even though it's a small fit, the atmosphere is fun and people start dancing as the night goes on. The music was a great Latin mix and the drinks are delicious, especially the Mango Mojitos, Caipairinhas, and another called La Negra. I would totally recommend it as a place to start or spend the whole evening. It can be intimate at a table for two, fun with a group (we had like 15 people show up for us), and more casual or fun dancing. Helpful wait staff and a clean bar. Great food but located in such a weird place. If it wasn't for my GPS, I wouldn't be able to find it. The sign is too small and the the corner that its on is very dark. My hubby and I went in on a week night around 6pm so they just opened. We were the only ones there. We started with empanadas and then I had the dos tiras (short ribs) and my hubby had the choripan. We really enjoyed the food...I mean once it came to our table. I would've given this place a 5 star but the the food took too long to come out and we were the only customers there. The outside of this place is so drab and uninviting. If you're not looking you could miss it which is crazy because there's really nothing else on this street! The inside unfortunately is not much better. I found it to be way to dark in there. I had a hard time seeing my food! Also the music was a little to loud for me. It was live which was nice but they were set up in the front which is a really small area so the sound really carries. The food was pretty good. Good enough to make me try it again but I don't think I'll become a regular. Finally, I kept hearing all this excitement about the caipirhna. Came here on a friend's suggestion and walked into a small dimly lit lounge w/ latin dance music. I enjoyed the atmosphere because it set a relaxing mood and the small lights teased the great food that was about to be laid out in front of us. I asked the waitress her favorite dishes and her choices were amazing. The empanadas came in several flavors infused inside the tasty breading that just blew my mind. Vacio steak was cooked to tender perfection and the 5 star review would never have been given if ñ's drinks (specifically their mojitos) weren't just so damn good. Love Tango Sur, thought we would give it a shot. We went with another a couple and had an excellent time. We waited for friends to arrive and had a mojito at the bar. The bartender was excellent and mixed two excellent drinks. Although they are a little pricey, they taste excellent. We had empanadas for an app and they were excellent. Our chicken kabobs were good, but not great. Our main course was pretty solid. Our group had ravioli, the filet, pechuga and the lomito. I sampled everyones dishes and they were excellent. My chicken was a tad dry, but still had excellent flavor. I should have ordered the filet, but was stuffed from the drinks and appetizers we had. Ravioli was so good. Waitstaff was decent, left us alone which was nice being seated outside. Would def go back! read more

I went to this bar last night with friends and I have to say that I am a fan. It is literally located in the middle of nowhere on Elston, so you would think that it is a small local dive bar. No way, Jose! While the place is small, it makes up its size with the sweet ambiance, nicely priced, strong drinks (I recommend the mojitos), and delicious food (so I hear). I didn't actually order anything, but I will be going back for dinner. The smell of the food is enough to make you start salivating. Who doesn't like tapas and empinadas. I know I do! It is a little dark in the bar, but the dim lighting seems to complement the type of atmosphere here. Just being in here makes you feel pretty chic, and unlike those insanely wild college bars you can easily relax here on comfy velour couches in their back room. The crowd is a older than the typical college age bar-goer (a huge plus in my book), so you will not see any popped collars or mini skirts here. The dress is casual/hip. read more

Stopped in on a Tuesday around 6:30pm, was excited to try this place. Inside it was almost empty, only 1 other table. Pros - the mojitos and empanadas are delicious. Ample free parking nearby. Cons - the other food we had was not good, espeically the mixta del mar - YUCK - defrosted seafood with olive oil and lemon. Also, service was mediocre. Obviously from my reviews, I only tend to share those places that are good, so here's another... N (propounced enyay, Arentinina pronounciation for the letter n). N is a restaurant/bar/music venue. Empanadas anyone? If so, eat them early because they hand make a batch and once they're gone, you s---- out of luck... and they go fast. The beef empanadas are KILLER! If you're thirsty, as I am perpetually, they'll hand make mojitos and caprinas... the bartenders all have defined forearms as they mull 100 limes on a given night, seriously. They have an assortment of liquors and beers straight from Argentina, so you can try stuff you've never even heard of. Lastly, the music is amazing... Bossa Tres, a brazillian band on Tuesdays and a DJ/drummer combo on Wednesdays. Bossa Tres is something you just have to experience for yourself, trust me. On Wednesdays, the DJ spins Hip Hop, Reggae, Soul and the drummer, with his full drumset puts down the beats. You gotta check this out! So, N is a not well known "must know" in the Chi. Top bar of choice for me... Wednesday night they have a live drummer playing along with the DJ who spins classic hip hop and R & B. This drummer is amazing, something like I've never seen before. Somehow the DJ and drummer are synced, and they transition from song to song effortlessly, very entertaining. Funny thing is I've never eaten here before, I go for the live music and great drinks. My sister has eaten the empanadas and she says they are amazing. Bar N has a very nostalgic feel inside, I don't know of any other place in Chicago that has this vibe. The artwork on the wall is beautiful, it's a collection of old music instruments and boomboxes and such. This place is small but it really reminds me of the late 90's early 2000's when everyone would get together, have a good time and jam out all on a weekday...NO DRAMA. Love, Love, LOVE Ñ! 2 reasons why.... 1. DRINKS - My favorite has to be the Caprisoska (Like a Capripirnha but with vodka instead) I've also had La Negra (Blueberry Vodka with real Blueberry puree.) They have a large selection of Beer as well. I say their drinks are delicious, ample and well priced. 2. MUSIC - I've stopped in on a few occasions primarily on Saturdays. I've had a chance to hear House music, Samba, and even Old School Hip Hop. All on different Saturdays. The main component being play here though would have to be House music. Now I said two reason why I love Ñ, I've only tried one item off their menu... I've tried their empanadas and they were ok. I had the ground beef & the spinach with cheese. The ground beef empanada was a little spicy for me. Sorry but I'm a wimp when it comes down to comida picosa. The spinach was okay seemed a little thin. All in all, the ambiance is great. You have an array of different nationalities. Of course primarily Latin. Dress is casual but trendy. People in groups and I've found a lot of date nights going on. Which I attribute to the relaxed vibe the crowd sets off. There's a small space in front of the bar where people tend to dance. My only gripe about Ñ is the sound system. It sucks in the back. The DJs changed at ten and the one from 10 pm on is infinitely better than the previous (unless you'd like to hear him sing along to Madonna remixes with your meal). Food - spot on. Not very accommodating for people who may be disabled or are recovering from a leg injury. I broke my ankle and am cast-free/just starting to walk again, but need to be able to sit down so I don't overextend myself. Went here last night for a friend's birthday party. The place was packed and there was no place to sit. Went toward the back to find a chair and was body blocked by one of the staff. I explained that I was looking for a place to sit down. Rather than saying, "Sure, let me find you a chair," this woman said "Sorry!" and really didn't do anything to help. Had to apologize to friend and leave. The lighting is so low that initially I thought they were closed. The tables are tiny but the bold flavors coming out of the kitchen are what makes the trip worth it. I've been a few times very late. Tried the food on 2 occasions, not really for a sit down dinner. Food is very good, atmosphere is great with some good music, great drinks including capirinhas and mojitos if that's your thing. They keep it dark, real dark.
