Hi. I emailed your feedback email account on Nov 9 and again on Nov 15 about my mostly positive first-time experience at your Desert Ridge location. Neither of my emails have been replied to! I was not happy with a dish, molcajete, which being a "frequent flier" to Rocky Point, was not authentic sonoran food. I don't ever post negative reviews specially again, since the experience was mostly great. Two stars is being generous based on my experience. I went for lunch and it took 5 minutes for anyone to show up at the hostess stand to seat us. Chips are unsalted and very ordinary. The salsa tastes ok but has no heat at all, like none. I ordered a Margarita with cinnamon and it was extremely sweet. I had a second one that was jalapeño and much better. I ordered a specialty Birria taco that was 6.50 for one taco and a second one called Barrio Chicken for $5.50. The amount of meat in the Birria one was literally what I would expect to get in a two dollar happy hour taco. The chicken one was better, but still not at all generous on the content. We've eaten here a few times now and tried several dishes and drinks. I started with the La Linda cocktail and really enjoyed how light it was. We spilt the guacamole that was made tables side and topped with pomegranate seeds, it's good! I enjoyed a fried shrimp taco, grilled shrimp taco, and the cactus taco - each were good but small. The drink, guacamole and tacos didn't leave me feeling like there was a rock in my stomach or hungry! We always love Barrio Queen! read more

Rare is the time I leave a restaurant as disappointed as I did this one today. Allow me to break it down in to inedible (word chosen purposefully) bites: Went in on MLK day, looking for a quick lunch. We were seated and then the LOOONG wait for a server started. Fortunately, there was a bird flying around to keep us from getting bored. Finally a bubbly server appeared, introduced herself and then scurried off in search of chips, water and salsa. They must have been well hidden as it took her a looooong time to return. The chips were cold, not even kept under a heat lamp or a warming drawer? The salsa was bland and flavorless, but it did contain a "secret ingredient", let's call it a gray curly HAIR. HEY AZ BOARD OF HEALTH, ADD THIS PLACE TO YOUR VISIT EARLY, VISIT OFTEN list. We waited another 10 minutes for our server to return (even asked another server to go find our server) and finally threw in the towel. When we explained to the hostess why we were leaving, she looked like a deer in the headlights. "Do you want to see a manager"? HELL NO. I want my stomach pumped and a tetanus shot because who knows what else we ingested besides gray curlies? This place should be closed, hosed out and try it again. We will not be returning, ever. I used to love their food but recently it has taken a deep dive off the quality cliff. I politely wrote to their customer care online to improve the quality , the food that I received clearly did not match the menu description . I reordered again after a month only to find same miserable quality and also some new ones , as if last complaint was not a challenge enough! The pollo bario which was my fave ,is now just like any fast food burrito .No pablano pepper no onions , I found only cheese chicken chunks in sauce rolled into a tortilla. Fish taco- horrible , the beer dipped batter fried fish taco was more of "batter separately fried and fish taco" ! Very bad food, this is the last time I will spend money at this place . This was a great surprise. They did tacos very well, with just enough innovation that one was surprised but sticking to the roots of what makes a great taco. Now I will admit, my favorite tacos are from a stand on the street in any city in Mexico but these are a little more on the gourmet side. Still yet a strong representation and a great place to go. The ultimate triple play perfect storm. Outdoor patio, sunset in the background, and good eats. Solid food choices all around. Standard guacamole tableside service and a big page of margarita drinks to choose from. I got the banana leaf wrapped pork dish (house specialty). Two thumbs up for tendernous. Love the little cup of au jus to dip and drench my meal in. No advanced reservations but its worth a wait. Prob not great for a large group just dropping in. Get there early enough after work and enjoy the sunset. read more

Nice local restaurant with great table side guacamole that is family friendly and has a nice patio.

So disappointed. I feel like I just got ripped off. I ordered the Arizona burrito to go and after leaving a $3 tip for take out the bill was 20 and change. Got home, opened it up, and what did I see? The smallest $20 burrito in the history of mankind. For those of you versed in burritos or smoking joints this was a pinner, at best. It was so small it flopped in half when trying to take out of the tinfoil. I should have taken a picture and sent it to the Guinness book of worlds records. Also, it was missing the Oaxaca cheese. I have to say I would have only taken 1/2 a star away but now that it's happened twice it's kind of irritating . With the whole lockdown happening I've been using Postmates and door dash . You can tell how most companies are really trying to do their best with all the craziness ! I ordered last week and was irritated because I got the smallest bag of chips with the corn appetizer I paid for (literally 10 chips in the bag) . So on tonight's order in the comments I requested 2 bags of chips at least . There is no spot to even buy a $1 bag of extra chips . But come on , I'm spending $50 on food for 2 and you expect us to share 10 chips ? Either add an option to purchase a full order of chips or throw them in when requested . Bedsides that it's was delicious! How have I never had these churros before ! I think I'm not addicted !! read more

The outside view of the restaurants is very attractive & makes you totally want to go in. But the inside appearance is even better. The staff is super friendly & the food is worth every penny. The free tortillas are so fresh & the burrito was very tasty. Defiantly a place you should visit. This makes Other Mexican restaurants look like a Taco Bell. I enjoyed the cohchinita pibil so much the first time. It was hot and juicy. I wish it were more consistent...it's been cold and wet, dry and cold, dry and hot. I like it when it is fresh. Either way the flavor profile is great. Tacos al Pastor are tasty. Salsa and chips are average. Service is always friendly. I've had the People's Margarita in the past and that was enjoyable (fresh pineapple, YUM) read more

Ridiculously overpriced. Food quality has gone downhill. There was a FLY inside the container with the tacos. The guacamole that was delivered had dried cranberries instead of the pomegranate seeds that were in the photo & description. They listed the Panna water as 1 liter, what was delivered was half the size. The flan was tiny (maybe 2 inch diameter, and not even an inch high) for a ridiculous price. The first 2 times I ate at Barrio Queen (2017 & 2018) the food was delicious, good quality and quantity. Tonight's food that was delivered was horrible. A complete waste of money! read more

My favorite place to go. Bar manager not so kind to me when I went. I ordered a special drink he told his staff not to make it for me because what if I didn't like it. Completely disregarded my comment that I would pay for it regardless. I was kind the only mistake bartenders made was asking him if he knew about this drink. That was his answer he walked away and the bartenders did t make my drink. I asked them 10 min later to please make it for me. It was my birthday dinner in top of it. I will still be going back , just found it very rude from the manager. The bartenders only did what they were told but better judgement could have taken place. For the record I am always polite and kind, I was just surprised by this. It's my favorite place and I love coming. here.Will continue to come here. We have been wanting to come here for a long time. The barrio restaurants are well known in the valley for authentic Mexico City soul food. We were heading out to a 4th of July event in Scottsdale so we figured we would give it a try. One of the first things I noticed was the great decor. It very much fit what I have seen of the barrio brand. My daughters loved it because it reminded them of the movie Coco. We started off with chips and salsa and I had a house margarita. The salsa was pretty tasty but the chips were overdone and too hard. I think that they really missed the boat here because their chips are made from handmade tortillas. Just could have used a little less time in the fryer. The margarita was ok but it was pretty strong. We then ordered the main dishes with my mom and I splitting the Cochinita Pibil and my wife and her mom splitting the Enchilada Suizas. Both dishes were really good. The Cochnita Pibil was some of the best pork I have had in a restaurant. Cooking it with the banana leaf really made a difference. The enchiladas were also good. Both dishes had food left over on the plate afterwards, even though they were both being shared. My kids had chicken tenders and a cheese quesadilla. They were standard. We would definitely come back here. read more

My inner thoughts before eating: "Oh man I would love some delicious Mexican food in a friendly environment" Me after eating: "Where's the toilet I should have dined and dashed." I ordered a chicken taco and damn... let me just say 4 day old Walmart rotisserie chicken would've been better. However, I love how connected I was with nature when I ordered the Bario Bowl. That being said the lettuce was straight from the root, I could still taste the pesticides. I would give my leftovers to my neighbors dog, but I don't support animal cruelty. The short rib taco was piles of cow fat. Made me have the chefs think I did something wrong. I am now considering being vegan. In all seriousness, thank you to my waiter for comping the horrible taco after I explained that the meat was hazardous. Not to mention, I suppose it was a finger food establishment or I was a caveman because no one gave me silverware for my bowl. This is why I don't go out. read more

We stopped by at Barrio Queen not knowing what to expect. I'm glad we stopped. Our server was Angel Q. We ordered the Barrio Guacamole, which was the best I've tasted made right in front us. My wife had the Azteca Beef Torta and I had Carne Asada burrito. Everything was delicious and Angel did a great job. Go there if ever in the area. read more

I had a great time with friends, so that alone it's top rating! At first when I got there I was worried because I saw a lot of people. I actually stopped and was gonna try a different place, but my friends were already in the patio. Great location. No one too close to us. We were seated in the corner. Our waitress was amazing! She was really good. It must not be easy to work with a mask on, but with all new challenges and all, she did a great job. I.had a Chelada. It was incredible! Then I also had the tacos. One al Pastor, and another one with Steak and Huevo. And ended up with Churros for dessert. About the churros I can only say they were heavenly. From the first bite you wonder what took so long.... They are so yummy! They allow a drink to go and we went to sit somewhere further and finished te night. Great location. Great people. They are ready to be back and handle these new times. Table-side guac with pomegranate seeds is an absolute must! Food is super fresh and you can taste the quality. If you don't see something on the menu, just ask and they can most likely accommodate you. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and helpful and made our dining experience even more enjoyable. For the remaining week I was in town for our conference I recommended this sport to everyone. I had a bean and cheese veggie burrito and my friends had a mixture of the street tacos, all were enjoyed. And obviously I topped the night off with churros! Wait to the tables was a little long but we were able to sit outside with drinks. One of the servers gave us some free tequila samples :) They have outside misters which was nice for the heat but they can turn them down after sunset. The cocktails were delicious and huge! I got the conchinita pibil and the meat was so tender and moist. Table salsa was yummy. The queso was good with mushrooms and chorizo but was missing a little flavor. The first time we came to Barrio Queen was on a Saturday evening and there was an hour wait. So we headed over to a neighbor restaurant. However, I was able to come here for lunch the other day with no wait. Our original server wasn't around so we got this lovely, older Hispanic male. He was so fun and friendly that quite frankly, he made our dining experience enjoyable. I ordered the La Linda drink, the guacamole, the carne asada taco, the pescado taco, and the churro. The food was subpar, lacked flavor and the asada was dry. The alcoholic drink and the churro were good. Would I come back? Not sure. I can think of other places I would pick that are similar in trendy atmosphere and food. read more
