Ok, I don't know if my review is legit. Living on the island of Oahu where the authentic Mexican food places are scarce, any place I visit off the island would be great. No matter though...this place did not disappoint. We did have to wait a few minutes for a table but, it was worth the wait. If you read my reviews you know clean menus are a thing for me. I received a clean menu and our drink order was taken promptly. The waitress was gone for a bit but, I seen her handling several tables so, I was ok with the abscence. We ordered and our food took a bit to arrive. I was ok with this because waitress came around and refilled our drinks and the place was super busy. Did I mention the food was AMAZING? Food was simply amazing....I guess I'm a cheap date or easy to please. Whatever the case, I enjoyed my meal and was happy with the entire experience. The place was busy and we were in and out about 90 minutes. This includes the wait for seating and me and my crew visiting and such. First time coming here, our food was AMAZING! My mom got a the house margarita and I got a lemonade, both good reactions. We got the ceviche for an appetizer, super filling! We took the rest home because it was so huge and so good, the pico was very fresh and the shrimp was very meaty. Loved that! We got 3 tacos and 3 enchiladas. The tacos were carnitas, battered fish, and another one I'm not remembering. The fish taco was amazing, fish melted in my mouth. The three enchiladas special with the different sauces got a positive reaction from my mom. The sides for the enchiladas were beans and sautéed veggies. Left very full and very happy. read more

The hostess was very sweet. Told us we could go to bar and get drinks while we waited for our table. There were 3 bartenders working . The four of us sat right up to the bar, it was not crowded. We were not acknowledged. Instead the 3 of them argued who would be taking floor orders and who would be taking bar orders. House margarita was mostly mix. Finally seated and we sat for quite a while until a server came. Looked as tho he was working the whole outside patio. He ducked and walked away several times to avoid our request for his attention. I did see a manager walking around but that is all he did - walk around. The out door patio was very loud from the traffic going by as it sits in a shopping out door area. Birds constantly flying in to eat a dropped chip or crumb. Guacamole was made at table from a cart. Was not anything special. The waiter was in high gear to hurry to get it made. This location is convenient to where we live and had ample mall-parking lot parking. THE GOOD: Attractive, trendy atmosphere with good energy, prompt service, and the patios are enticing and dog friendly. The chips and salsa offered at sit-down were delicious. THE LESS-GOOD: Bland flavors and expensive for portion size. Tacos were the cheap item for $12. Enchiladas start at $18 and increase from there. The menu describes a dinner with 3 tacos for $12 as just "tacos." A more accurate description is "street tacos" as the tortillas were very tiny. I'm a light eater and 3 were not enough to satisfy my small appetite. The tacos were more like appetizers. You can compare the taco size to the slice of average sized avocado in my photo...they are the same size! The plate was about 10" long by 6" wide. I tried one each of Carne asada, grilled shrimp, and chicken (referred to as Queen on their menu). The only one with flavor was the chicken taco because the sauce did have flavor. The carne asada was dry and generally pretty terrible. Overall this was a miss for us on value so we won't be returning. read more

Not even on the table. -server didn't have any knowledge of the menu and made my party repeat our order two or three times and her cell phone was going off in her apron. -took a while to get our food. Got there right at 11 as they were opening and it took 40 mins for our food. -I got the queen enchiladas with shrimp. Add 6.00 for 4 shrimp but don't mix in with enchiladas just toss on top would have tasted good in my meal not al a carte. Shrimp was sooooo good and flavorful. This is a great restaurant if you're looking for a creative atmosphere with unique food. The Restaurant I could not get over all of the decorations and art. There is so much color in the space with patterns clashing everywhere but somehow each crazy piece complements the other. There are a bunch of souvenirs right when you walk in, a tequila bar to the right, and the regular bar to the left. Right away you know this is a restaurant you can go to to have fun. The Service We had a very friendly waiter who gave us lots of food suggestions. He checked up on us just enough. It was noticeable that even with the restaurant being slammed, everyone was on top of their game. The Food This restaurant gives you free tortilla chips but these are different. These chips are like the salty, buttery ones you buy by the bag at the Mexican market. Only these are hot and fantastic. I wanted to take just the chips home! However the salsa is pretty bland. They have an extensive tequila list and tons of mixed drinks. For main course I ordered the Pork Chile Verde Rajas Tacos. It was out quick and it was super tasty! The meat melted in your mouth, it was so tender, and all of the flavors went great together. The only two things I did not like about the food were 1) the portions are small, everyone in our group had just ok portion size & 2) for my tacos, they had only one corn tortilla. They weren't double wrapped like almost anywhere you go, so right as I started eating them, they were falling apart. Overall I would definitely go back. I love the fun, extravagant atmosphere and the taste of the food is genuinely great. I understand why they get so packed at night and I know I'll be craving those tacos again soon! The ambiance was great (super cute decor) and the service decent but we noticed it just was not too busy. My husband and I were so excited to finally give this restaurant a try, but unfortunately ended up being very underwhelmed by the food itself and wished we had chosen another place to eat. After ordering, the food came out extremely fast (too fast actually) and the enchiladas my son and husband ordered had cheese inside that looked like it had been reheated in a microwave and did not taste fresh. We also ordered 3 tacos to share and the vegetarian one I ate had a very off almost rubbery texture and was not seasoned well. I don't mean to be rude but this was the absolute worst "Mexican" food I've ever encountered. The mole was super sweet, the elote was super sweet (as if it had been boiled in sugar water, and then they didn't really mayo it, nor season it with chile), the fish taco was so fishy that I was scared I was going to get food poisoning (although the batter was really good), and the beef/steak/"carne asada" taco was so drenched in some orange mayo and cabbage that you couldn't even find the minuscule amount of meat. I ate one bite of each thing and piled my plates. The regular salsa they serve looks amazing but has no flavor except tomato. Their agua de jamaica tastes like it was from a mix, not freshly brewed, but I wouldn't know because there was too much sugar and no tang to tell the difference. The tortillas were fine. It was culinarily insulting, since I had to pay for all of it. Lovely staff and environment, though. Music was good. But you always know bad Mexican when it's full of white people and not Mexicans. I ordered a shrimp dish, my daughter orders the fish and my husband order the stuffed pepper and added shrimp. The fish and shrimp had a funny taste like smelly feet. I think they didn't wash them off before cooking them. My daughter's fish was very dry. My husband's stuffed pepper was just a flat pepper with three shrimp. He payed 8$ extra for 3 small shrimp. I absolute love the decor and design, inside and out. Our server was great and full of personality. The drinks were awesome. Although one of the people in our party thought the margaritas could have been a little bigger. Not a make or break though. The gauc was made tableside, always a plus. Barrio Queen is a classy restaurant in the valley that sets the bar for mexican style food and a wide variety of tequila. I got the visit for the first time a couple days ago with my family. This restaurant is beautifully designed from the inside-out. They offer a tequila bar attached to the restaurant, but I didn't get to check this out because it was unfortunately closed. FOOD: I decided to just try a couple tacos that were offered on the menu. Specifically I tried the carne asada, and the carne asada and chorizo one. Others from our group ordered the spinach enchiladas, and chicken tacos. The food arrived at our table after about 12 minutes, and was hot and fresh. I was surprised at how flavorful my tacos were and the meat was really tender. The enchiladas that were ordered were amazing. The sauce was subtle but packed with flavor. The food overall was really good and I would visit again to try some other items on the menu. We also ordered some tequila shots, but that was just general tequila. SERVICE: The service here was decent. Our server seemed more concerned with the other tables he had and was really slow when we needed to get our check. The service was the only thing that we didn't really care for here. OVERALL: Overall Barrio Queen was a great restaurant with an amazing hispanic vibe that set the tone. Always in search of great Mexican food and this spot did not let me down. We stopped by to pick up take out after a yelp search to get food while driving through town and so happy to have found this place! The food was delicious, the service on point, and felt comfortable even in covid times. Also they have TO GO MARGARITA KITS... We called ahead to see if there would be a wait on a Saturday afternoon for the patio since the weather was incredible. To our surprise we were able to get seated right away. If you don't order the guacamole, I don't even know why you would show up!! It is absolutely incredible, and the pomegranate seeds on top are a perfect complement to ass to the guac. I went with the three taco plate and made sure to try the Nopalitos (cactus) taco. To my surprise it was even better than expected.
