I've been here twice and have had sub par experiences both times. The staff is never really friendly and treats their job like something they just have to do. This last time topped it off, though... I ordered the burger, but when I received it, it was literally a way over-cooked patty, a bun, and the thinnest layer of cheese I've ever seen. Nothing else on the burger as described on the menu. It was, hands down, one of the worst burgers I've ever had. I got about a quarter of the way through it before realizing how terrible it was (I was starving), but then our waitress disappeared. She finally came back after the rest of their table had finished their food. At this point, I was going to ask them to re-make it or order something else, so I just didn't eat. When I visited Arizona I tried restaurants that are local to that area and I won't find once I get back home. I have to say that every single thing that I tried was just so delicious. I was a bit worried about the nachos with pork but it was just so good that I could not stop. I tried two drinking a the chingonarita and the skinny chola margarita which was also so tasty. They make the guacamole in front of you and I had never seen anyone add pomegranate to a guacamole and let me tell you it is game changer. Chips and salsa are made fresh. I can't say anything negative about this place. I can't wait to return to Arizona and try this again. Best experience ever. I thought it was cute that they have tee shirts for sale as you exit the restaurant and other little trinkets. Best trip ever to this restaurant. read more

Awesome Mexican food experience, ambiance and service. I came here over the weekend without a reservation with a party of 5 for dinner and it was only a 15 min wait. With a bar and lounge area it was just enough time to get a delicious cocktail and then get seated. We ordered the table guacamole and i loved the options you can put in it such as the pomegranates as well as adding the spice. The extensive menu had something for everyone, from healthy options to picky eaters I think everyone is covered. For a main i went with the 3 tacos and after 2 baskets of chips it was more than enough food. Barrio Queen is a great options for family's and I will be back. read more

Busy Saturday night with great weather so we decided to sit out on the patio! It's national margarita day so naturally I decided on the delicious casa margarita! Not too sweet and not too strong. Some salt half way round the rim of the glass & a fresh lime. The chips and salsa were so delish! We took some home with us. My boyfriend got the carne asada torta and fries and I got the adobo torta with fries! Both were delicious. The fries have a TON of seasoning (still great but just FYI!) Pairing this with the adobo torta was a lot for the tastebuds. SO much flavor!! I couldn't eat the whole thing so I took the rest home but it was a great meal. The carne asada was a little more simple, not as much seasoning or spices but still juicy and delicious! The patio was so nice and created a fun and energetic ambience. I have been to this location multiple times and have always loved it. But on 2/22/24 I was at the bar and didn't receive service for over 30 minutes and when I asked to order the bartender rudely laughed and made a joke to another group of people at the bar. After waiting forever to order we finally got our drinks and took another lifetime for him to come back and order our food. It wasn't super busy when we were there, just poor service. When our bill finally came (after asking multiple times) we agreed to pay barrio queen a said amount and was charged at 5:59pm. This morning when the payment posted the bartender added more tip than we left to the bill so I was charged way more than I agreed to (nearly 50% more). I will never be returning to this location as this is fraud. read more

Where do I begin with this one? We came here on a Saturday and waiting for about 45 mins for a table - thats not a problem, we always wait to be seated for good food. When we did eventually get seated and order, it took forever for our food to come out. That would be fine if they spaced out our appetizers and entrees but nope! They brought the appetizer (queso fundido) and enchiladas out at the same time. When asked if we could get some chips or something with the queso fundido, the waiter nodded and forgot about us for the rest of the night. So here we are, sitting with a cold place of clumpy cheese infront of us, with nothing to eat it with and our enchiladas that are bland. Wont be back. read more

She was attentive even though she had a big table of golfers from the golf tournament in town that weekend. Had a margarita very good flavor. My kids had the kids chicken tacos they said chicken was good and had flavor. I had the carne burrito which was good size. My husband had the carne steak meal that looked amazing. Kids had the churros for dessert thought it came w their meal but later noticed a charge do watch out for that. I'm a mark for this kind of Mexican food. The cuisine at the Queen isn't all about yellow cheese and refried beans with mountains of sour cream atop something smothered in a sauce, the inspirations come from many different parts of Mexico and not a whole lot of the menu resembles the Sonoran style you see all over Arizona. Start off with the nachos. Try anything with the roasted pork as an ingredient, or get it as a main (cochinita pibil). You'll notice the steaks and the carne dishes aren't blazed into well-done toughness and they're served with tasty sides. Drink a Pacifico or something made with good tequila. Portions are pretty large, and the prices are a little higher but I feel that you do get what you pay for at Barrio Queen. The patio is a nice spot to hang out and be warned that there's a long wait if you're heading out for dinner on a weekend, but the patio has heaters and the bar has drinks to keep you occupied while you wait for your name to be called for a table. read more

I have been to Barrio Queen 4 times now and have never experienced the inconsistency of service that some other yelpers have. Service has always been great! Decor is pretty bold and unique and they have a really cool customer engaging trinket in the lobby. When you walk in there is a mural of hearts to your left. The idea is that if you touch one of the brass hearts on the bottom and someone else touches the other one then you connect hands the hearts above will light up if you have kinetic synergy. It's pretty cool. Anyways on to the drinks. Their iced tea is really yummy, their margaritas are fantastic but they don't carry deep eddy vodka - whaaaaa' *said in minion voice* For the food - I don't like spicy, seriously if anything is even remotely spicy I get the hiccups and can't taste my food - it's just not pretty. That being said I know this place won't be for everyone but I really enjoy the food here. I like the salsa and guacamole (they have salt and pepper on the cart but it's an ask for what you want thing so just ask if you want spices in it.) my favorite is their carne con verde cup. It's very tasty and the meat is super tender. Their chips are homemade and the tacos, albondigas soup and enchiladas I've tried were all pretty good. Their elote could use some love, I can't put my finger on what it's missing but I've had better. All in all I will definitely be returning. read more

HH house margaritas are $4, but again was charged $7. Server did not present bill, just her hand held showing our total. After leaving and reviewing my texted receipt, realized we were overcharged. $3 may not seem like much, but x 6 margaritas, the server did well for herself. The chips are house made and are a little thick and oily for my tastes though. The entrees are very good. I ordered the cochinita pibil (Mexican pulled pork) and it was fantastic. Very tender and well seasoned. Pickled onions were a nice touch. The rice and beans were cold and didn't taste very good. The fresh tortillas serve as a great vessel for shoveling the pork into my face. I tried 2 margaritas, one was the spicy one with habanero and jalapeños and the other was the Cadillac I think. I was super excited to try this place for a long time. We sat out in the patio which is an awesome vibe. However we sat down and our plates and table was dirty with bird poo. The server noticed this but didn't wipe the table and only replaced 2/4 plates which was odd. I asked for a new plate twice before one was brought to me. We ordered the table side guacamole which was incredible and the chips were so delicious and fresh. I really enjoyed the mild salsa, but felt the hot salsa lacked flavor. I ordered a house margarita with the mezcal which was tasty but quite small for the price if I'm being honest. I would come back for happy hour for a margarita of the same size as half price. It would be nice if they had some weekday lunch drink specials. We then all ordered the cochinita pibil torta. We have had this meat in Mexico and were excited to see it was on the menu. The tortas come with fries or side salad and my recommendation is to order the fries! They are seasoned heavily and delicious. I ordered the side salad with no onions which was not a good option. It was very small and they loaded it up with onions. I picked them out rather than sending it back. My brother is allergic to dairy and ordered his torta dairy free and sadly it came out with a dairy product on it so he had to send it back. This was disappointing. The server was very sweet and kind however I felt she was in over her head with so many tables and making guacamole. I noticed the manager walking by but never stopped by tables to check on them or refill drinks etc. This seemed unusual to me. The server was apologetic about the mistake but it took a while to get the new correct sandwich. Lastly, it was my birthday and they don't do any birthday dessert...so that was a tad disappointing especially considering the few mistakes with our food. It would have been a nice gesture, especially since I am not the one to ever complain at a restaurant and we were very understanding about the mistake. I give this place 3-4 stars because I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the torta and the meat was super tasty. I will still more than likely be back for this reason (probably during happy hour) and hope that the service is a bit better than last time. read more

It was our first visit and I was anxious to try the Cochinita Pibi pork. The server recommended the torta with that pork. Wow! Best torta I've ever tasted. Meat was delicious, pickled onions added a nice texture and the bread was freshly made. They serve it with meat juice on the side, but the torta was still plenty moist by itself. My wife had 3 tacos. One with fish, one with the pork, and one with vegetables. She loved the first two and the vegetable taco she said was good to ok. Looking forward to our second visit! read more

What a nice experience. I've dined many times, this was the best. We went on a Monday night for restaurant week. And we did have our server to ourselves. She was great! Nice, knowledgeable, light hearted. She was accommodating. We were a table of four. Two of us had food sensitivities. She new the menu and made sure the food was correct. Guacamole,eloté, tres enchiladas, Relleno, churros and margaritas... All great! The meals came Hot(temp). The flavors were great. The churro was Bomb! And the flight of margaritas were fun and very tasty. It's a great option if you're not sure what kind of margaritas to order. Thanks Barrio! We really had a good experience. My only 2 little critiques would be... Please fix the outdoor misters, it was still a little too warm outside.I was sweating. And maybe help the phone staff to accommodate special requests. Service is usually a miss in chain restaraunts, this visit being no exception to that rule. While hosts were perfectly attentive to the other tables around us, we were left feeling neglected. Now understand that we aren't obnoxiously loud or inconsiderate patrons-Mom and I are quiet patrons simply invested in a great experience. While I personally give the donitas and the 'musical chairs' busser 5 stars, the experience was just too much of a miss. I understand restaraunts have been brutally slapped around by the pandemic, and we don't visit restaraunts hoping to be given private butlers and massages, but in crazy times like these, great experiences should at least be somewhat guaranteed. The pandemic couldn't even push this to a 4 star review. Especially since Mom and I went to PF Changs at Happy Valley a few weeks ago and they hit it out of the ballpark. The donitas were stellar, though. Unless you're a diehard fan of their food, and/or don't care about lukewarm service, I wouldn't really recommend dining in. Maybe just for a dessert. read more

Would give a fifth star if the staff were as friendly as they are efficient. We've been going to Barrio Queen since it opened at Desert Ridge but last night was definitely the best night of service we have received. We checked in with the hostess and waited about 15-20 mins which wasn't bad for a Saturday night in November. The waitress sat us at a high top outside but we needed a high chair which just didn't work. One manager saw we were debating and promptly tried to help us. He brought over a high chair so we could see how much lower it would be then offered to check for another table. While he was doing that, another manager walked by and asked if we needed any help. The first manager came back and said he could get us seated right away inside. For time sake we took the inside table and were so thankful for all the help on making a simple table decision. You could tell all of the management was helping with every aspect from turning on heaters to rolling silverware. Then one of the most wonderful waiters helped us. His name was Angel and I definitely recommend that you ask for him. He was attentive even though he was busy, he was efficient and very friendly with our 4 year old. He was teaching him a few words in Spanish even though my son was being shy. He was such a pleasure to speak to and truly made our night better! We were exhausted from throwing our daughter's birthday party that morning and just wanted a relaxing night out to eat. I can't wait to go back to enjoy another relaxing night out!
