This was our date night and my wife had two Mexican restaurants in mind. She left it up to me to decide and I chose this restaurant because of the delicious food. We arrived around 5:30 PM and had to wait 35-45 minutes because there was a private event occupying the other room. After waiting's about 40 minutes, we sat down and ordered our drinks and also placed our order. Each of us ordered 3 tacos. It was the perfect amount of food. The fried tortilla chips were thick and scooped the salsa without snapping in half. The server was friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was great. I'd come here just to smell the place but also I die for the chips and salsa. Homemade and never enough. I love that I can throw on my pretty summer dress or go in workout wear ...just depends if it's date night or lunch with the ladies. The listers are on outside, so I also love that outdoor dining is still an option. I ordered off the summer specials and went with the watermelon and chicken salad. You pay $6 extra for the chicken but the meal was $20, so still under my $25 budget. Flavor for days on this salad and I think I ate pretty much every lettuce leaf. I'm not a fan of walnuts and forgot to order without them, but that was on me. Service is always exceptional and everyone's good at checking in on the table, so no staff complaints. We had dinner last night at Barrio Queen in Desert Ridge Phoenix. Josh took good care of us. The decor in this place is super neat, food was awesome too. I love suadero and most places never carry it. It's basically brisket but with a Mexican flavor/twist to it. I had 2 separate individual tacos with my Chile verde meal. One suadero, one shrimp, both excellent. We had margaritas, and a few other drinks too. I'd 100% go back to this place when returning to Desert Ridge. read more

For only the second time since it's been open I went to this restaurant. My first experience wasn't the best, after being served an order of table-side made guacamole that was so salty you could not eat it. However this time I had lunch with a colleague, and ordered two different kinds of street tacos, all of which were delicious. Also the chips and salsa to start the meal were very good as well. We dined here a while back on a lovely afternoon. We arrived during HH so we could enjoy a round of drinks. The restaurant is big with plenty of tables to accommodate small and large parties. There is also an outdoor patio which on this day was a perfect spot for us to sit. We chose a high top and began to peruse the menu choices. Our first item to order where two Mezcalita's which is a hand crafted cocktail. So delicious and refreshing. My husband also ordered a shot of his favorite tequila. For food, of course we went with tacos. We shared three street tacos and they were decent, not over the top in terms of flavor. I also ordered a roasted eloté which for me was overdone in terms of toppings. Way too much mayo! Our server was good. He didn't hover and was available when needed. I really enjoyed sitting on the patio as there is a huge tree that provides some nice shade. Although you are in a mall parking lot, this restaurant has still found a way to stand out. I looked at the reviews and was really excited to try this place out with all the hype about the reverse happy hour, so we finally did for our friday date night! Food was good! Jose our server was AMAZING! prices were great! However everything going on around us was quite uncomfortable. towards the end of the shift, there were two employees (blonde curly hair, and tall dark skin girl) that were the most unprofessional and rude group of girls i've ever had to listen to and deal with. we heard all kinds of really mean things they had to say about their coworkers, and the guests THAT WERE CURRENTLY IN THE RESTAURANT! nasty comments to each other, inappropriate movements and gestures. Hearing racial slurs from employees of a mexican restaurant was not something I thought I'd ever see. The small female latina bartender (that they were shouting for calling Tina) engaged with them in this entire engagement and even egged it on. There sounds like a huge bullying and professionalism issue here that was unfortunate to see, because everything truly was amazing Jose took really good care of us but the high school girls honestly made the rest of our meal super uncomfortable, and we would really hope someone would get some control of this as we'd love to come back soon with hope of change:( read more

I had gone to this spot several years ago and had a really good memory of the food, however this time it was not the case. I went with my mom on a Tuesday night and it wasn't too busy. At first the hostess sat us at this extremely large table even though there were only two of us so we asked to move. We had to wait for about 20 minutes while they cleaned a table and when they finally sat us the table was still all sticky. We asked them to bring a towel to clean it and they misunderstood us and thought we wanted to move again so while they were discussing they proceeded to seat three large groups around us and take their orders. When they finally came to tell us there were only high top tables to move to it had been another 10-15 minutes. Finally we got them to bring over a towel but they seemed annoyed. Chips and salsa were delivered finally and the chips were stale, salsa was average. I had veggie tacos which were fine but nothing exceptional, my mom had cheese enchiladas and they were terrible -- the sour cream tasted expired. Also had the tableside quac which should have been much better than it was -- it wasn't terrible but also wasn't amazing -- not worth the $18!! I also had a skinny margarita -- it was fine, again nothing to write home about!! The ambience is fine but nothing too special. Overall was not impressed and will never go there again!! read more

I just moved to Peoria, AZ about a week ago, and my friends decided to take me out to celebrate! And where did we go? Barrio Queen! I have never been to B-Queen, nor have ever heard of it out in California, so I was very excited to try it out. When we arrived we saw that the place was pretty busy, but thankfully there was a very short wait. We got to sit out on the patio, which is so nice, especially at night. The restaurant itself has a beautiful neon, dia de los muertos vibe, with lots of color and wonderful designs on the walls. Our server was quick and knowledgeable of the menu. Although there were many good choices to be had, I was recommended to try the Quesabirrias taco, and I followed that with the Camaron Asado taco, with a Casa Margarita. The Quesabirrias was absolutely delicious, especially with the birria au jus for dipping. The Camaron taco was good, and the margarita was a good, solid drink! We also go Guacamole for the table, and that was quite the standout, with its huge chunks of avocado and tomatoes. Overall, it was fantastic! The atmosphere really drove it to another level and I know I will be dining here again, very soon. read more

Reservations needed for anything after 6 on a weekend because this place was packed. Drinks and food were pretty good, the spicy cocktail was a unique taste I'd recommend. The elote (mexican street corn) was the best thing we had. Make sure to eat it with the chips as the extra salt really perfects it. All the meats in the burrito and tacos are clearly marinated all day, they're incredible. Sauces leave a lot to be desired. I would recommend drinks and apps only, but even with just those you'll have a good time. Would come back. read more

I recently went here with two friends for a weeknight dinner and enjoyed my experience. We had a 6:30 reservation and received great service throughout the meal. As it was a nice evening, we sat outside and enjoyed the ambiance. The restaurant inside is nice, with plenty of space and a good bar area. The complimentary chips and salsa were fantastic and we also shared the coctel de elote, which had perfectly cooked corn, a good amount of cheese, and excellent flavor. My kid got married on Friday at Moon Valley Justice Court, and we decided to go celebrate at " Barrio Queen." They have a really great Happy Hour and is conveniently close to the Court house. It was very busy and obviously a very popular place. It took a while to get seated, but once we did, we were quickly greeted by our waiter. I love the decor with artwork in the "Day of the Dead" theme they have some great $5.00 Happy Hour food and drink specials, and we got a little bit of everything. We had to start with the tableside guacamole $15.00, which has fresh pomegranate as one of the ingredients, which was a refreshing touch. The food was flavorful and fresh. We pretty much enjoyed everything, and the 5 of us dined for under a $100 and amazing deal. We plan to definitely return to enjoy more of their menu. We decided that this place might be a better choice than the hamburger drive-through on the other side of the parking lot as there was no wait to eat here. At 2:30 pm, this restaurant was still quite busy, but not overly busy. There were a whole bunch of empty tables on the patio so we chose the patio. Although there was a lot of space, we were seated close to two other occupied tables. About five minutes later another couple was seated between us and one of the other occupied tables. His chair actually bumped up against mine. Not a problem, just a little unusual as there was lots of space. I ordered a negra modelo (tasty) and a burrito, which tasted good. Not great. The chips were fresh but the salsa was fairly flavorless. Overall a good meal. Parking is easy. read more

Portions sizes for the money was a good value for the amount of food but the quality was just not there. We had an enchilada with cheese that was not meted and a taco with overcooked meat. The biggest letdown was the gringa taco; the story of the gringa is the woman that wanted to put the al pastor meat on the melted cheese on her tortilla but here we just got some cheese sprinkled on an al pastor taco. I'm all for people remaking and reimagining dishes but this one just falls short. Nothing here was bad, I just would not go back again. read more

I had an excellent experience at Barrio Queen, and a big part of that was our server, Sierra. She was incredibly attentive despite how busy the restaurant was. From the moment we sat down, she made sure everything was taken care of. Our drinks were constantly refilled without us even needing to ask, and she checked in at just the right moments without ever making us feel rushed. Sierra handled the high volume of the restaurant with impressive professionalism. Even when things were clearly busy, she stayed friendly, calm, and focused on making sure our table had everything we needed. Every request we had was handled quickly and with a great attitude. What stood out most was how genuinely kind and welcoming she was. While the overall atmosphere of the restaurant didn't always feel as warm as it could be, Sierra completely changed the experience for us. No matter what you try, make sure you order the World Famous barrio guacamole made fresh table side, with fresh pomegranate seeds. Had a very underwhelming experience here yesterday. This was our first time at this location and we came on a Monday night around 5pm. It wasn't crowded and we were seated on the patio right away. We sat there for over 10 minutes with no sign of a server, water, or chips. When we finally flagged down a server they felt bad we had been sitting there for a while so they must have rush ordered all of our food but then the food came out before our margaritas. I ordered the hibiscus Paloma margarita and for the price it was pretty disappointing , considering it was so small and so much ice. The food was just okay, the enchiladas and tacos weren't memorable. We are disappointed we were not given a happy hour menu and realized they had happy hour till 6 after our food arrived when we heard a table next to us ordering happy hour tacos. Needless to say we probably won't be coming back anytime soon. read more

I believe Barrio Queen is a chain Americanized Mexican place in the Phoenix area. There were several locations when we searched for them online.. we went to the one on Tatum, which was located inside a little shopping center in the burbs. Barrio was huge!! With both indoor and outdoor seating! We had a fairly large party and decided to sit outside for some fresh summer air. Wrong decision! It got super hot!!! Especially after all the Mexican food. The tableside guacamole was made to order.. you guessed it, tableside! The addition of pomegranate was a bit different but was a good mix to traditional guacamole! The Queso flameado was a win! Cause who can go wrong with melted cheese and chorizo?! The only downside was that they only gave us 3 tiny tortillas to go with all that Queso. They specialize in tacos but I ordered the Cochinita Pibil cause it was marked "award winning@ and it didn't disappoint. The meat was tender and the sauce was fantastic! I think everyone enjoyed their food.. though the margaritas were super sweet and didn't contain very much alcohol. The Tres Leches also came in a jar and was lacking the milk drenched cake cause it was filled with cream. A good place to have a dinner for a large party, with a great ambiance and nice decor. Food was also pretty delicious for a chain restaurant, though you can't go in with very high expectations. read more

I used to go to the now closed Barrio on 16th St. and was never disappointed. This corporate spinoff from one of the former owners of Barrio makes it just another Mediocre Mexican food chain restaurant. The only thing I found nice about this restaurant were the interior wall designs and nice outdoor patio seating. I went during lunchtime and the restaurant was only 1/3 full, but it took our server 10 minutes to get water to us, another 15 minutes to come back to get our orders, and she never returned to check on us once we received our food from a food runner. The requested sliced jalapenos were missing. The chips and salsa that are a complementary starter were mediocre at best. The chips were fresh and crisp. If you like tomato sauce with a quarter of a teaspoon of chili powder mixed in, this is your salsa. The cup of posole I received was edible, but I've had better out of a can. The chorizo refried beans were flavorless and bland and I'm not sure if there was chorizo in it. I also ordered their version of a Paloma and it was not balanced and far too sweet to complement the food. Barrio Queen is OK for tourists that don't care for spicy food. For those of us that enjoy a tasty and spicier meal, I suggest finding a Mexican food place with an Irish last name. read more
