One of my favorite, go-to restaurants in Toledo! The drinks are great, and the food is too. My usual food order is one of their delicious burgers and truffle fries. Pros: great service, great atmosphere, tasty handcrafted cocktails. The menu is on a tablet which makes choosing your order easy because you can read the descriptions and look at pictures. Their recent expansion has added extra dining space which cuts down on wait time, but they also take reservations. Cons: the only downside is that parking is somewhat limited on a busy night. read more

Very attentive, friendly staff compared with many places I have been in the Toledo area. I see some compared this with Social. I like this place so much better. I think they have better tasting food in general, more personalized & enthusiastic service, more drink selections. The only time I have gone in while there was live music, I did think the band was out of place, but we sat in a separate room. Love the overall atmosphere. Wish they served food maybe just one hour later each night! I have had to go to Bar Louie so many times because there are so few places serving decent food late at night in this area. read more

The hidden gem of Maumee, tucked into a strip center you will find great food, great service, friendly people and a very inviting atmosphere. Selection of beer is awesome as is the extensive wine list. Last visit we enjoyed a perfect burger on an excellent bun and cooked to perfection; started with the mushroom app, to die for. I had the portabelllo mushroom burger, my friend the chicken tacos with asiago cheese fries. I loved the smoked gouda and pesto. Best preparation of a well marinated portobello mushroom burger with fine cheese and toppings ever. They nailed this one down well. The atmosphere was a little chaotic, but they had a large private party going on at the same time. A local company was having a private event at the same time, so there were very few tables available. Some tray tables for people sitting on those couches might be a good idea ;) read more

We had an excellent experience. My friend and I split the sirloin tips and toast points. Just amazing! We also split the special which was crab cakes. They were delicious. Thursdays are Ladies Night so our wine was $5 a glass and for dessert we had Martinis at $6 each. The only reason I knocked off a star was that we were seated a good 10 minutes before being acknowledged ( we were seen by three employees, just not acknowledged). I also think the portions are somewhat small for the price. The side for the crab cakes was about 1/8 of a zucchini. But overall this was a quality meal in a nice environment. read more

Excellent service ! (Even brought my cell phone out to the parking lot after having left it at the table). We arrived at 5pm and the place was hopping. Salmon caesar salad and porto wrap were tasty and full of flavor. The drink selection and vibe makes it a great place for couples, or groups of friends. Planned on going to the old location of Zinful not realizing they had closed that location and the restaurant. We were looking for a similar atmosphere and decided to try BPH. We were definitely satisfied. The atmosphere was just what we were looking for. The wine choices and beer choices were perfect. Ray was delighted with the beer he chose, both the Bourbon and the Rasputin. The Pinot Gris I chose was right on. We had appetizers that were just what we were looking for. Ahi tuna for me, which was great! And he had the homemade chips. His chips are better, they are hot out of the cooker and thicker, BPH's were room temp. Waiter was ok, he seemed to be working both rooms. We will go back as we really enjoyed our evening. read more

When you are in the Maumee/Toledo area and you enjoy great service (Sarah and her friends are amazing), a variety of beer, wine and spirits, actual conversations and yummy food, you have to drop by. I know yummy is not a technical term, but it works. Family visits have brought me to Ohio this summer and this local place should have a sister bar in California! It's fun to sample the various beer and try new, original drinks from the menu, or even a classic favorite such as a gin and tonic or Moscow mule. Just went here tonight, got some great reviews, but food really wasnt that great. Burger ordered medium, came out well done with a burnt bun, come on guys, i get overcooked, but burnt bun? Wife ordered blackened chicken no spice or heat, app was the artichoke dip, which was decent, but served with what tasted and texture was akin to stale bread. Positive side, ambience is outstanding and welcoming, beer list excellent, but cant say we would be back anytime soon. read more

This is a breath of fresh air in the world filled with chain restaurants and bars. Barr's is a locally owned and operated, the owner/manager is usually on site, is very personable and welcoming. That being said the staff emulates her behavior. Friendly, helpful and there to help you enjoy a unique dining experience all while not being pushy at all. Whether you are there for a glass of wine (nice selection of quality wines), a pint of one of the many craft beers or a complete dining experience, you won't be disappointed. My wife and I stopped in on a Friday night. We used to go here 2 or 3 times a month and meet friends for a cocktail and have some food. On this night, the restaurant was not very crowded and there were open seats at the front bar. We attempted to sit at the front bar and were rudely told by the bartender that "those seats are taken". There were no drinks or plates on the bar at these open spots. We were directed to the back bar which was deserted. Once a bartender showed up, I ordered a couple of drinks and we waited about 10 or 15 minutes for them to arrive, and the place is still not busy. About 20 minutes into the visit, another couple wondered back to the back bar where we had been exiled. This couple had also tried to sit at the front bar only to be told that the still open bar seats "are taken". The four of us laughed about the mystery guests that command saved bar seats. Is this a huge deal, well probably not but coupled with the facts that the bartender was rude at the start and saves open seats for her friends, the food that used to be great is now only average at best, and that it takes a long time (on a slow night) for two glasses of wine. Well, all of this adds up to the fact that we won't be going back. Be forwarned, unless you are the bartenders BFF, you will be treated rudely, banished to the back bar, receive crappy service, and mediocre food all at a premium price. read more

I'm re-reviewing this place. I have never done that, but since I've been here several times since my first visit, the quality of service has improved dramatically. As you can see from my previous review below, I was initially very unimpressed (review not on food- but lack of service). I never saw the manager's response to my initial review (I even looked here for something, but Yelp never notified me, and I couldn't see anything) until recently. I came back to meet some friends, expecting very little. Things have definitely changed since our first visit! The food is really, really, really good- A very creative and tasty combination of gourmet + fancy pub fare. The servers are extremely knowledgeable about their beer and wine selection, and very professional. A sweet woman with very curly hair has been our server several times; we really like her- her beverage knowledge is impressive. The manager has also checked on my table throughout the night (in addition to our server, which is also nice), she is genuine, and also very knowledgeable. I'm switching my review to 5 stars, because this has become one of my favorite places to go. My first review is below....You can see how much my opinion has changed. Kudos, Barr's. ------------- Let me start out with this- I did not eat here. However, I went to the restaurant with every intention of eating there. On a Saturday night, We walked in around 7:30, and the place was almost empty. No one greeted us at the door, and we were confused as to whether it was even open. We kind of looked around, waiting for someone to say something to us. Finally a girl walked up, and just said, 'Sit wherever you want.' Since this place is still on the new side, as far as Toledo restaurants go, I guess I expected more of a welcome than that. Like, "Hello!" or "Is this your first time dining with us?" We sat at the bar, and decided to have a drink and check out the menu before committing to a table. The whole place seems more like a bar, since there is one in the front room, and one in the back room. There was no one in the front room at all (where people enter- completely empty), so we chose to sit at the back bar. There was also a band setting up, which also contributed to the 'closed' feel. The bartenders were unfriendly, to the point where we truly felt that they hated their jobs, and US. Someone should tell them that this makes guests feel uncomfortable. Maybe they think that the aloof attitude adds to the 'hipster feel' that this place is trying to have. It doesn't. It was that attitude that made us decide to finish our cocktails, and go somewhere else to eat. Bottom line- small menu with many appetizers. Two entree choices. They sound good, and I have heard there is good food here. I just feel that they are lacking in guest service skills, and there is no passion present. If this is a 'seat yourself' restaurant, maybe put that sign at the ENTRANCE- but you still need to acknowledge people when they walk in the door. The reality- I was hoping to find a restaurant more like what USED to be in this space- Vino 100- which was truly a dining experience. Amazing food, AND impeccable service. A couple of selections like Kobe Beef Sliders and the Cheese Plate sound similar to Vino 100's selections. To be fair, I am aware that it is a different restaurant now, and expected it to be different. I just expected a warmer welcome, or really to FEEL WELCOME at all. read more

The food is spectacular but the owners who are locals have hired some sub par wait staff and bartenders especially! This is a specialty drink place and they can't even make simple drinks correctly. We ate there this past weekend. 3 of us sat in the bar area. The food was ok at best, we just had some appetizers. The bartender was awful. He smelled disgusting and his demeanor was creepy and fake. We won't be returning. The only reason we have 1 star is because there was a female who briefly spoke to us that was very friendly. Barr's public house has always had great food, since their new Chef Becky has come on the food has been fantastic last night I came in and a friend she had the Yucatan pulled pork tacos which was out of this world. My husband and I stopped by for dinner and drinks - were told 10 min wait (I had dressed in a maxi dress and my husband in athletic shorts and t-shirt) I was told we could not sit at the table that was avail for 2 because they were holding it for a large party. So we sat down to wait the 10 mins, then were approached by an unprofessional manager? She asked if we wanted to be seated in the corner - at which my husband said we'd prefer a table - we will wait, its been a long work week and we wanted to relax. I guess we were dressed WRONG, guess it looked like our money wasn't "green" lol - she became very rude and was trying to force us to take this small side bar to rush us out - (this was the SAVED table for the party) it was 5:00 - the large party was scheduled at 7:30! We were treated like second class citizens, and left. By the way...my husband has his Master's Degree and is a High School teacher! We will NEVER go back. The saying "Don't judge a book by it's cover" comes to mind, as my husband and I tip very well, and treat the dish washers with as much respect as the company CEO. This place is a true jewel! Great atmosphere with "radio Led Zeppelin" playing. An awesome flight of beers -- which I followed with a Maumee Bay 2015 ale from the flight, so rich and creamy! I had the Bahn Mi steak sandwich with sweet potato fries and cleared my plate -- really, really tasty! My wife had the cowboy steak which she loved -- and she even liked the sweet potato fries even tho' she doesn't normally like sweet potato. I had to eat her Brussels sprouts (she has the gene that makes them taste vile) and it was no hardship: beautifully fried crisp without being overdone. Our friend had the "Kobe" beef sandwich with goat cheese and ate 'till she was stuffed. I had the lava cake for dessert: just the right balance of lightness and gooey chocolate, offset with fresh strawberries and blueberries. To top all of this, our server Scottie (Sarah) was absolutely awesome: friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and very attentive. read more

Gross!!! That's what I think to myself when our mushrooms came from the kitchen. Let me rewind... My wife and I stopped by this joint for a couple of drinks and a snack before a show. We both were impressed by the hip interior and the great beer selection. Also nice was the fact that the price of each beer selection was listed on the menu. Anyway, after perusing the appetizer selections, we landed upon the mushrooms to sate our palates. They came to our table rather quickly. Most impressive, since the place was SRO at this point, and we just by blind luck stumbled upon our pub table upon arrival. But alas, there was a reason for this speedy return. The mushrooms came to us cold. Nicely cooked on the outside, but so frigid on the inside that when I bit into it, I needed my Orajel to numb the cold pain. We informed our server, who was apologetic and told us he would have them fire up a fresh batch. What returned to us was horrific. The chef herself came out with the re-fired fungi, laid them down on our table, and was also apologetic, with a brief explanation that she was training a new kitchen staff. However, when we looked down on our serving plate to taste these "new" shrooms, we noticed that they recooked our old order. This was perfectly clear, due to the bite marks on the end of the previously sampled morsels. Hence, the gross. Putting our germs in the oil. I'm sure the fryer will kill any bugs my saliva may have, and my wife has fantastic oral hygiene, but still, gross. If this is any indication of the kitchen standards, I will stick to bottled beer only from this place. read more

I wish i could give this restaurant OWNER a negative review. We had a miscommunication (apparently) with the sweet, cute hostess when we arrived. The owner....instead of handling the situation with class and diplomacy...decided to insult our party with the rudest behavior we have ever encountered from any establishment we have ever been to...and who not only insulted us once, but TWICE! We ordered an $88 bottle of wine at the bar prior to this encounter as we waited for our table. But after the completely inappropriate treatment and comments....we cashed out and LEFT. What the owner does not realize...we have ALL been in the restaurant industry and know how to deal with customer service. We left and went to ANOTHER restaurant down the street. One that knows how to treat customers. read more

Unfortunately my friends and I had a very bad experience at Barr's, from start to finish beginning with the reservation. We had a party of 12, anyone who makes reservations on-line knows that websites do not allow reservations for large parties yet the hostess at Barr's continued to point us to online reservations and was not nice about it. FYI - The reservation site through Barr's website provided an option for up to five guests. The message from OpenTable "Unfortunately, your party is too large to make an online reservation at Barr's Public House. We recommend contacting the restaurant directly." Our party arrived at 6 pm on Thursday. We started timing how long it took to get a drink, not only from the libations menu where the drinks are a bit more custom and could take a little longer to prepare but for a beer, a glass of wine, a standard cocktail pour, is 32 minutes too long? For a party of 12, this didn't happen to just one of us, it happened to each one of us for every drink we ordered - we were there for almost 3 hours and each of us had 2 - 3 drinks. We brought this to the attention of our servers, which in my opinion we should not have had to do, but they seemed oblivious to the fact that drinks were taking that long and they were ignoring that fact completely. The food took a long time as well. I for one thought that based on the price the food would be quite good, unfortunately is was just ok. The hummus was the worst I have ever tasted, so bland there wasn't even a chick pea taste and the garlic was so heavy it burned your mouth. I personally tried the Shepard's pie, again couldn't have been more bland and nothing at all special for the price. I understand that everyone could have an off night, I get it, and normally I would not be so critical but in this case, from the start to finish of our experience, tells me this is normal operation which I cannot ever recommend to anyone. read more

We've heard good things about this place but unfortunately, it will be our first and last visit. We started off by ordering chicken wings that were completely burnt to a crisp. How can you even serve that out to a table? Our server told us that they are suppose to be that way because of the marinade. But hello? I don't think anyone wants to crunch on burnt charcoal as an appetizer. We changed it to the chicken fingers which were fine, and also ordered the burger with truffle fries and BLT tacos with Brussels sprout side. The burger was suppose to be medium rare but came out extra dry, well done AND extra salty. I looked under the patty and they had added extra steak seasoning to it! Our Brussels sprouts were also super salty. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for flavor but it was just like eating salt straight from a shaker. The BLT taco was bacon with a couple pieces of lettuce and tomato on a stale pita. They also upcharge on sides and to put sauces on the side without telling us. If service is good then we usually reconsider visiting again but Service was slow and they didn't seem very happy to be at work. Let's just say it would take a lot for us to be back again. read more

First time being here, of course it was the kick off of restaurant week. A friend of mine suggested it, and since I haven't been there before decided to check it out. Total fail, over 45 minutes for the first course(and I expect, if I wait that long for the food! It should be good) not something that was cooked hours ago. Dry, tasteless, makes me wonder why it took so long to hit the table. THEN, At least 20 more minutes for a salad on a plate! That takes a whole 2 seconds to put down. The main course was just as bad, maybe even worse. Inedible, is what my date said. And as I walked to the bathroom to wash my hands, noticed their were only about 40 people in the entire place. Two thumbs and two big toes down. But the DRINKS were good. read more

Can't give this restaurant/bar any kudos as they never even gave me a chance to try it... Upon entering with our party of four, we were completely ignored. There was no room at the bar (that's great it was busy!), every table had a reserved sign on it, and not a soul around to help us out... We got a glance from a bartender and a possible waitress(?) who then continued to ignore us. Being our first time there we weren't sure if we were suppose to wait for a host, hang out behind the seated bar patrons - the whole vibe was odd... Just can't believe we weren't even acknowledged. Maybe they didn't like my outfit that evening? We live down the road and were hopeful this could be a cool spot/bar to hang out with neighbors and friends but we haven't one nice thing to say about it. And we won't be back. And I have shared the experience with lots of folks... Treating possible loyal clientele poorly was a pretty sad mistake. Bummer. (Our visit occurred over the summer) read more
