They're typically consistently good when you can find a table, I have to say that during peak times is tough to find a table but otherwise a good DC Happy Hour and light dinner option. It is so annoying that this place doesn't take reservations. We joined the waitlist well ahead of when we needed to leave for a play and our "30 min wait time" turned into an hour. Of course that was wrong since the bar completely skipped our drink order and then when we got up to ask about it, they said they were out of the sangria so they just "made something up" which included an ingredient one of us was allergic to. I love the food and drinks here but the bar service is soooooooo bad. I sat at the bar on a Friday around 3. No one helped me for 15 minutes. I eventually called to get someone attention. My drink was done for 20 minutes before I literally waved my arms to get someone to help me get another drink. I don't know if it was a bad shift, or folks were out but I've never gotten service this slow from a bar seat in DC. And it wasn't even that crowded! read more

We met friends here for dinner and had a very positive experience. The ordering system was impersonal but easy to use and efficient. The servers checked in with us several times to make sure everything was coming out as ordered and to see we had everything we needed. The margaritas were tasty (mezcal and spicy were the two I got). I'm a fan of Bartaco overall, but this location needs some work. Most of the bartenders seem more interested in communicating amongst themselves than engaging with customers. The drinks are also extremely hit-or-miss, which is amazing considering they all measure the ingredients. Some bartenders make the drinks perfectly, and others somehow make them too sweet. I typically really enjoy the spicy margaritas, though, as well as the pineapple margarita whenever it's on the menu. The caipirinha is also pretty good as well, depending on who makes it. The tacos are always consistent. I love the pork belly, fried fish, and falafel tacos. The chicken taco can be hit or miss because sometimes the chicken is fatty. I also really like the corn. The only downside of the tacos is that they're tiny, so I typically end up getting 4 or 5. read more

So the fish, duck and the shrimp taco were ok, the pork belly, chorizo and zucchini flower were great. Absolutely loved the duck birra and the salad. My first margarita took about 10 mins. Cute busy spot in the Wharf. It has a really easy way of ordering and paying right from their app so you control when you put in orders and when you want to pay. Despite the fact that we used the app, the server kept checking in n us and the Manager passed by to make sure we were being well taken care of. The service was actually probably better than in a full service restaurant! We decided to try the tacos. My favorite was a warm butter lobster taco it was so delicious and tasted exactly as its name. I ordered 2 more of those because they were so good. I also tried the shrimp taco and the dressing they put in there was very flavorful. The guacamole was amazing but even the large was pretty small, but it comes with plenty of tortilla chips. The margaritas were on point. This new SW waterfront establishment has a ton going for it: hip, new, delicious, great music and ambiance! The tacos as a group are solid. The chroizo and chicken fell short. The duck and pork belly were super stars. I loved the tuna in the lettuce. Dessert - churros - was held up by the sauce. Otherwise a poor pastry. Drinks were just okay. The vodka options were not appealing. The gin cocktail was yummy. Mezcal margarita was "fine." Service was solid. Samantha was our bartender and caretaker. Bat packed when I arrived/ my party was late to arrive, out my name on list and waited (was told 1 hr for outside). No buzzer given, just phone which pinged me but I wasn't checking messages every minute. I saw message to go to reservation desk to get table- and was told I waited too king- they gave 5 minutes to respond!! Again no buzzer, nothing! There were plenty of outdoor seating spaces, so must have been server shortages. The "management" gave us free dessert (birthday event) and wrote off 2 drinks. No one ever apologized for poor seating, staff shortages. Super loud at bar too but I've become old fart. I'd never return due to their cavalier attitude - food good, but waiting over 1.5 hrs for semi-full restaurant and NO genuine apology left very bad taste in my mouth. Beautiful interior! I went during the week and there wasn't much people but still people were there and I got a good seat. One down side is that when I got escorted to my seat at the bar, the bartender didn't even acknowledge me and was too focused on her conversation to take my order. I actually talked with a patron next to me and she asked if I had been helped yet and she said no and she said that yeah their service isn't the best. Had to flag someone down to take my order and yet when the lady at the bar gave me a menu, she didn't wait on me, someone else did. Now he and I think his manager did their jobs great and checked on me. I usually only sit at the bar for the conversation and not for the drinks so I struck up a conversation with the woman next to me. Usually I talk with the bartender but she seemed busy. I got the small guac and it was amazing. I've been to this specific location twice, and it's convenient if you're going somewhere near the Wharf or L'Efant Plaza. You get seated and order via a QR code. It's convenient if you want to split the meal between two checks. I would say for the average person you want to order 2-3 tacos and a side to be properly full. read more

The tortillas come whole; I would prefer if they were cut up, but breaking them up is pretty easy so not a big deal. We got the oyster, shrimp, and Baja fish tacos. All of them were pretty good. The shrimp was cold (on purpose) and I would have preferred it hot. The oyster was nice and crisp. The Baja fish was my favorite - it was perfectly crisp. My friend and I came to enjoy the last bit of Happy Hour and grab some dinner before our concert at the Anthem. We loved the ambiance at bartaco and wanted to try something new at the Wharf. Upon entering, the hostess reminded us to make the most of Happy Hour and told us we could sit at the bar. We were on a schedule so waiting for a table 30 minutes wasn't going to work, and we were happy that the bar had full service. The bartender who greeted us was extremely cold from the beginning. He seemed annoyed when we said we wanted to get 2 drinks and the chips and salsa from the Happy Hour menu. He looked at his watch and didn't say anything. I get that it there was 7 minutes until Happy Hour was over, but the hostess encouraged us to make the most of it so I was thrown off by his annoyed look. Additionally, I mentioned that we would be ordering items from the regular menu too, so I was even more thrown off by why he seemed irritated. We made our selection of tacos on the paper menus and had to flag him down for his attention. His back remained facing us the duration of our time there and we had to flag other staff members to get our chips and salsa and half our order of tacos. The tacos were nothing special- decent price for the Wharf, but the meat for the ribeye, chicken and chorizo were dry, along with the tortillas. The chips and salsa didn't come at all with our HH drinks or with the 6 tacos we ordered from the regular menu. When we asked the waiter, he said "I don't have this on here" to which I replied we did order it with the drinks. Again, he gave an annoyed side-eye and didn't say anything when he walked away. Eventually the chips and salsa came, but the whole experience was disappointing. Definitely will not come back here. read more

My partner and I went to Bartaco on 6/5 on a late night after enjoying our day and getting engaged. I have to say that the host Asha was very nice and accommodating. The manager Wyett came to our table and was sooooo friendly and warm. He asked the occasion and my fiancée told him, not only did he congratulate us but he took care of our bill and drinks. Asha came back to our table and congratulated us...the warmth that we felt was moving. Ayana, another waitress came to our table and confirmed everything was taken care of and she was polite. Had a great first experience here for lunch on a Monday. The weather was perfect to sit on the patio.
