They have a good selection of Bagels at bartons. However I am ever fearful of cross contamination at this place. One time I saw one of the emploees making himself a snack and he had tomato all over his hands. He didn't wash his hands nor can I think of a time seeing someone wash their hands. Another Time I got someone who couln't under stand english well or close to at all. I could bearly get my order and it took me a good 15-20 minutes to get in and out of bartons. I found this place by accident after we ventured into town after a long hike. I have always enjoyed bagels and am from NY, lived there more than 1/2 my life and was surrounded by great bagel places. These are awesome bagels - made like bagels should be with a slight crunch on the outside and a pleasant chew to them - and so soft and fresh. I took 2 dozen to work the other day and all my friends raved about them - said they were the best bagels they have ever head on the west coast. My friends from New York loved them. Anyone who's a local knows. This is the place to go for bagels. Totally behind the rest of the world in price gouging their customs, BB serves the best, made that day bagels with tons of variety and their staff are VERY nice. I saw someone say they weren't on here... you must never have worked in a job like that before and been swamped. People who have a line of 20 teenagers in front of them work fast and hard and only want the facts baby. Been here since i was a wee one. Definitely a hometown favorite. read more

Great bagels and really good coffee at a good price.

These bagels are the best! My family has tried a lot of different bagels, but none beat the bagels from Barton's. The kids are huge fans of the mini-bagels, but the regular-sized bagels are soft and chewy and downright perfect. Happily, they sell their bagels at Woodlands Market, so it's possible to get a Barton's Bagels fix without going all the way to San Anselmo. read more

I have never yelped before but felt compelled to after receiving such rude service. I live walking distance to Barton's and patronize this business often. The service has never been great and it is never a surprise to be greeted with less than friendly cashiers. But I was blown away by how rude the woman cashier was today. Mean, grumpy and surly. This is friendly downtown San Anselmo on a Saturday morning people. Attitudes like that do not belong here! I think I will choose to walk down the street to Coffee Roasters to get my bagel next time. read more

I do not think it is the best bagel shop the other day I was there and i had left over money and the lady said what are you going to do with the money??? Then, she laughed. plus they put a lot of cream cheese. I also asked for a plain bagel with a little bit of cream chesse and they still put mound of cream chesse. read more

This small business is truly a steal at most bagel sandwiches totaling less than $2.25. With original bagel recipes like cinnamon sugar, tomato basil, pepper and jalapeño that u can mix and match with cream cheese favors such as spanish olive, lox, tomato basil and brown sugar praline the possibilities are endless, you will NEVER get sick of Barton's! Also made on location featuring original recipes: local tea and coffee, barista made espresso drinks, chai lattes, fresh baked cookies, pizza bagels, bagel dogs, drinks and smoothies, and FRESH CHALLAH BREAD in several flavors which is so hard to find. A few of my favorites are: ham and cheese breakfast bagel on an onion or jalapeño bagel(if u like salsa on it the jalapeño bagel gives it the flavor that's perfectly spicy for anyone), garlic bagel with olive or tomato cream cheese or, the cinnamon sugar bagel with cream cheese heated slightly. They also do custom orders and pre-ordering if you happen to be in a hurry and want to call in and order over the phone. When I lived close to it and was a regular the staff knew my order by heart and usually by the time I was ready to order my bagels and bagel sandwich it was already being prepared if not sitting in front of me when I arrived at the register. I'm so upset right now! I have been stopping in 2 mornings a week for a bagel for over a year. Today I went in and was told there is a $5 minimum for debit card charges. I have NO problem with this!!!! I completely understand why retailers have to make these policies. My issue is that I was never warned and the treatment I received at the register was extremely rude. I was told that I couldn't use my card unless I spent another $4. I don't want to load up on sodas/juices and I didn't have any cash on me so I left empty handed. What should of happened..... Explained new policy and let it slide this time (maybe have a grace period) OR asked if they could charge me any extra $1 to cover the cost but next time please use cash. That would of been GREAT service!! CUSTOMER SERVICE is very important and you have to respect your long time customers. To let someone leave without anything in their hands is not good. The cost of one bagel lost you a customer. I will not return!!! read more
