Don't bother the wine is too commercialized and flat. You will mostly be disappointed. And the lady behind the bar who spends all her time flirting with the married men instead of explaining the mediocre wine won't add much to your trip. It's bad when I would rather pay for two tastings then pay for a bottle. The tasting room was family homey, and the wines were good, although not great. Another gentleman came in and just wanted to taste a couple of their reds, which they did for him at no charge, which I thought was nice. They have some good blends here, and the family photos and winery dogs (who are friendly) were a nice touch. Liked this winery lots. read more

At first I didn't think I was in the right place, but quickly realized that the tasting room was inside of a house. The owners are trying to keep this place small and quaint. The wine selection is small, but very good. The old lady serving us was nice and a pleasure to talk to. Attended Zinfandel Weekend and was introduced to this Wine by my family who are locals. I was blown away by the quality of this fabulous wine! We enjoyed cupcake and wine pairings!! What a yummy idea. We decided to stay for lunch and were NOT disappointed. We sat outside and enjoyed a really "cool" musical trio. I wish I could remember their name! The owner are friendly, the dog is adorable. My only regret is that I did not buy a couple more cases of the Soul Mate Rose Wine!!! read more

On the Big Sur to San Diego leg of a road trip, I unwittingly meandered into Paso Robles wine country. Being a foodie/wino, I allowed myself one stop even though I was running late. This was the lucky pick, and I didn't regret it. Completely charming people in the tasting rooms, and I liked every single one of the wines. I left with a full case in my trunk and when I went tasting later in the week in Santa Barbara wine country, didn't find anywhere I liked as much. You can find some better deals elsewhere, but for the combination of character and quality this one is great. read more

Tasting was $7. Our pourer was friendly and knowledgeable about the wines an how they got their names. They also had some adorable dogs. We thought their whites were nothing to write home about. Their reds are the way to go here. I thought Simple Man was good. It has a peppery taste at first, but a smooth finish. I also like Soulmate and Lineage, but I'd definitely recommend Simple Man. read more

They have some wines that are different than you get elsewhere, and they are fun to taste because each one is so different from the one before. Cute little winery with different outdoor seating options. We took our extremely shy and anxious dog here and the Grey Wolf dogs, although curious, respectfully kept their distances. The tasting fee is $7 and waived with a bottle purchase. A couple of wines we were interested in weren't on the tasting menu, but when we asked about them, they were kind enough to give us a taste. It would have been nice if the staff explained a little bit more about each pour, but there was a big group and they were busy. The Grey Wolf wines have very cool labels! read more

Grey Wolf is a perfect example of why we come, again and again, to Paso for wine tasting. Good wines at a good price point; but more importantly, not corporate. At many wineries we meet the winemaker; today at Grey Wolf the pourer was an oenologist, who explained all the taste subtleties in each wine, and gave us a great lesson. While you're there, right nearby is Midnight Cellars, definitely worth going to. But ask near is Tooth & Nail... definitely worth skipping (it has the feel of a Temecula winery... ugh). read more

If you are a true red wine lover you will truly enjoy this wine. Their Reserve Zinfandel is a real treat. It's priced on the high side, but they do make some very special wines. Grey Wolf was such a nice surprise! I've been in the Paso area for almost three years now so I've footed to the pint where I'm exploring wine country a bit more. I have my clubs and must-visits, but now I'm comfortable enough to pull off the beaten path or play wine "telephone" at the wineries I enjoy so much. I believe Grey Wolf was a referral, I can't remember from where. All I know is that we were headed to our third winery but needed some food in our stomachs before the day turned disastrous. We immediately did a tasting before ordering food. We both skipped the whites; I really don't like whites at all. The reds were delicious, full bodied and rich. The price point was mid-to-high, but closer to the mid range. We both walked out with a bottle to take home and a glass to enjoy with lunch. We ordered lunch and it was delicious. We got the prom bahn mi and the mac and cheese (don't remember the specific type). Both were amazing and hit the spot! Food wasn't too expensive. I'm definitely keeping Grey Wolf in the back of my mind whether I need wine or food! read more

This *was my favorite winery in all of Paso.. when we come up from LA county, this is the one we look forward to visiting. Beautiful outdoor views, amazing wines, awesome music, good food. And now they have their distillery open as well; the pink gin is so good!! This last visit really upset me though. We spent the day in Cambria and were pretty darn famished. We decided to make the 40 minute drive to Grey Wolf to have lunch there with a bottle of The Jackal--best wine ever. Well, we arrive and go straight to the food window. After waiting 10 minutes it's our turn to order.. the guy tells us they are backed up and we'll need to wait 20-30 minutes before putting in anymore orders. I notice a decent sized line had formed behind me so walking away and coming back later will mean I might not be first anymore. So I am mid-sentence in asking him if I can just give him my order and he can put it in when he's ready and he slams the window in my face.. literally, the window almost clipped my nose. So rude. I was so angry I couldn't even stay. I still went to the distillery and bought an $80 bottle of their whiskey and a $40 bottle of their pink gin and one of their cocktail mixers. I still love the wine and spirits but I'm honestly so bent about how utterly rude that man was that I'm not sure if I'll be going back next time. I may just go in and grab some goodies then just leave! Completely ruined my experience and even my perception of the place. Total bummer. read more

They have some really nice bold reds and flavorful whites, but the good ones sell out quickly a few months after release. We've been going for years and over time they went bland in their marketing and service. They used to have custom labels that really complimented their wines, now they just say 'GREY' which over time is now reflective of their winery experience, just generic instead of personal. Loved how authentic it was. An old Labrador retriever and a housecat begging for a pat. We tasted in the room and then sat on the patio for an hour and a half. When the guy who did our tasting walked out, I said, "Kick us out when it's time to go" and he said, "We'll just leave , you can say as long as you want." The Wine Maker Joe and his mother are usually on site and very knowledgeable. LIke wine his continues to get better with time. He is all about continuous improvement, and quality, with a warm sense of making you feel at home. This winery is anything but commercialized. It is unique, and smooth. I don't usually like white, but the South Paw is the best I have ever had. Also, the Zin is the best California has to offer. He is getting huge reviews over the last two years and I can understand why. Well worth the trip! Bring some friends, and food for a picnic. It's the perfect place to kick back with the best wine and feel like your at home. As his wine has improved, the prices have too. However, it's worth every penny and still cheaper than most of the wineries. It' like your drinking Silver Oak or Opus with out the high tab. The Rose is perfect for light wine drinkers or those who prefer the perfect summer wine chilled. Very friendly! read more
