You may disagree with me, but you gotta' think about where you are and what your choices are and then decide to see the brighter side of things. Sure, this isn't fine dining. But it is consistent. We ate here for a breakfast, a lunch, and 2 dinners. The menu is not extensive. But the burgers are consistent and get you full. The chicken gyro was good, just needed more tzatziki on the side. The fries were great! The breakfast burrito was pretty good, just add some salsa from the communal area (haven't seen this much sharing since before covid!), the pancakes were actually quite yummy! And the basic breakfast was consistent and tasted exactly as it should! No pics of gyro or butgers - you know what they look like lol. We never waited more than 15 minutes, and this was with the line to the door. I don't know how they kept up with all of the guests, but they did - and the guests for the most part cleared out when they were done eating so that people getting their food would have a place to sit down. (It was too cold and rainy to eat outside.) Yes, basically it is a cafeteria, so you can't expect a Michelin star. But between the consistency, the efficiency, and the humor of some of the employees, a great option when staying at the lodge! read more

Ate here a few times out of necessity and it seems like it just got worse with each visit. I received raw tater tots with breakfast. Part of my order got skipped over and I had to ask again after waiting for over 30 minutes after realizing it wasn't coming - the worker just stared at me and didn't say a word. During my last meal, I received fries that had been sitting out for at least an hour based on their texture and temperature, and my the bottom half of my burger bun was completely soaking wet and mostly disintegrated. I ordered a coffee and a pastry one morning and waited a good 20+ minutes to receive it. One person was completing all orders by himself while two other workers sat at the counter and did nothing, which was quite bizarre. I understand this is a fast food style place in a national park, not a Michelin restaurant, but the food quality and service are both beyond horrific, even for a restaurant of this style. read more

But, unfortunately, the food was terrible. My piece of fried chicken was mostly breading & the chicken was fatty. Hubs didn't enjoy his burger either. And every ice machine was broken. Parked near the main road and hiked lower Yosemite trails and ate here after. Located in the Yosemite valley lodge. Plenty of seating. It's cafeteria style. You order from the kiosk and your food is ready in like 2 minutes. Everything comes packaged. Self serve fountain drinks, coffee, etc. they also have restrooms available inside the cafeteria. There are different menus to chose from- poke, chicken, and Mediterranean. They also offer alcohol. If you're looking for a fast place to get food, then this is the place. This review is for Veterans Day and the dining area is open. This is like a food court with cafeteria dining area. I was unable to buy food with cash. I do not carry credit card. The kiosk where you order food only accept payment but does not accept cash. Minus 5 stars. So I sit in the dining area and have no way of getting food. In my humble opinion, cashless policy is discrimination. I should be able to use a U.S. currency at a federal national park. read more

Really not sure why this gets 2.5 stars... maybe its madness during peak season but on our pretty Thursday afternoon, this was delightful. Food came up quick. Ordering was relatively straightforward (except we didn't know "slaw" = lettuce/tomato... ). Hubs had chicken sandwich, came on a pretzel bun which was nice. I had chicken fingers and fries. I was fearing the worse, after seeing that 2.5 star rating. So imagine my surprise when it turned out to be our favorite dining option in Yosemite Valley, and ate there multiple times. Things I ate: 1. Crispy Chicken sandwich- the slaw is very tasty. Also, get a side of "Base Camp Sauce" it costs $0.75 but it is worth it. The chicken patty itself is obviously a cheap frozen one, but it tastes fine. I ordered it for lunch, and a few days later we ordered it again. Their fries were also pretty crispy with some seasoning...they were crinklecut, quite good! 2. Chicken teriyaki bowl- I think they only have bowls for dinner. They are good quality. And they give you some veggies too. It tastes like real food. And it was about $19 I think, which isn't that expensive when you consider the price of dinner outside a National Park...its expensive almost everywhere now. 3. Pork Belly Bowl- my favorite meal! You get 2 decent sized pieces of pork belly. Of course, could have more, but its pretty fatty too so it mixes well with the other things in the dish. The meat was tender. This used to be the go-to place to eat in the Valley, a full service cafeteria located next to the main lodge. Not any more. It has cut back from a decent cafeteria with a variety of choices to an imitation McDonalds where you have to walk up to an electronic kiosk, make sure it is working, and punch in your order. A very limited menu. We both ordered a chicken sandwich. Mine was over done, tough and small. The fries were right out of a frozen package. It was May so big crowds were present to see the waterfalls but the room was inadequate. Seating inside has been cut almost in half from a few years ago, a few tables added outside, and we had to search for a place to sit and shared a table with another couple. I don't mind the sharing, but I do not understand why they reduced the number of places to sit. The ambiance was that of a high school cafeteria: walk up and order, wait a while for your food, search fo a table, and bus your own dishes. We looked for another option at the lodge. The formal restaurant next to the Base Camp was "closed for private party" and the place at the back of the main building was closed. It used to be a popular bar and place for a light meal. We won't stop coming to Yosemite but we will look elsewhere for food, or bring our own next time. The price for two chicken sandwiches and one drink was about $36. Not McDonalds after all. read more

During Presidents day weekend in yosemite stopped by the Base Camp Eatery. Absolutely loved it here. Right near Yosemite Falls, a beautiful view worth seeing it was breathtaking. After a long wait in Yosemite with a 3 day weekend I was definitely hungry. The wait was busier than usual just because the holiday and the park attractions. However, the food was great and the staff were so friendly here. Got a crilled chicken sandwhich and my bf got chili cheese dogs. Everything looked extremely authentic and the service was fast. Started our morning at the base of Yosemite Falls so this was the closest place for food. We arrived around 9:30 with the place closing at 10. There were about 15 groups of people behind us still when they closed the line at 10. Food/Taste/Flavor: 2/5 - So we all ordered the breakfast bundle but received very different amounts of food. The bundle is eggs, protein, potatoes, and a croissant. The first person got a mound of eggs, the second some eggs but mostly the dry shavings of the egg, and we got another pastry since there were no eggs left. We were lucky since the cheese pastry was pretty good but the croissant was dry. The dry shaving of eggs were dry (obviously) and pretty much inedible. They should have given a replacement as well similar to our order. The bacon was pretty good but the sausages were super dry as well Ambience: 5/5 - cafeteria atmosphere but clean and comfortable Service: 1/5 - there is only one person per station and at one point the worker walked away and no one knew what was happening. The Base Camp Eatery is very convenient for those staying at the Yosemite Valley Lodge. The hours are convenient and the ordering kiosks are easy to use. I believe there must have been a change of contractors that operate this place since 2023. At dinner, there used to variation throughout the week. During our latest stay, the menu didn't change for a week. It is the same "Latin" dishes that consisted of a protein, rice, and black beans. There was a lack of consistency between how the dishes were prepared. Sometimes there will be tortilla chips and others didn't have chips. Often proteins like Salmon were out early in the dinner service. Italian dishes were also sometimes not available. The pizzas are premade and sit on a rack until they are ordered. There were a few nights where even pesto pasta was out. Burgers are below average. After the fourth night, we realized the menu online is incorrect and there is no variation in dishes. This is the same with all the other meals. No variation. Bring back the old contractor! read more

We were so hungry from our hike that we got halfway through our burgers before we realized neither of us got our bacon. This is the main kind of 'mess hall' area for Yosemite Park. Amidst all of the neutral to negative reviews, I'd like to say I had a good experience here. ATMOSPHERE/ARCHITECTURE: 7/10 Average atmosphere, but it is well lit with windows showing the breathtaking views of the park. It's nice to walk in here in the early morning to see what everyone is up to. In my few days there, there was a young couple I'd see in the corner playing a game of chess each morning along with a group of older gentleman playing cards. It definitely gave off the 'old-times' vibe to it that I really appreciated. There is ample seating enough for at least 60-70 people. SERVICE: 9/10 Staff was super nice and welcoming each day I came through and I never really had issues anywhere. FOOD: 8/10 Breakfast Platter - 8/10 - Nice mix of eggs, potatoes and a kind of grits like item with sausage, I thought this was pretty good for a hearty meal. Obviously this was nothing super special, but it was good enough to satisfy me and provide me fuel for the hiking day ahead. Buttermilk Pancakes - 7/10 - These were average, just as any buttermilk pancake that you have had probably countless times in diners elsewhere. Fruit Pancakes - 8/10 - Same as the buttermilk ones with the addition of some berries with a tart sauce. Overall I think that this is a welcome addition that enhances the pancakes. Chicken and Waffles - 9/10 - The best of the bunch, but definitely pricy for essentially kind of diner style food. The chicken was crispy as it should be with a nice Belgian style waffle. VALUE: 6/10 It is on the expensive side for what you are getting. But seeing as there are not many options, the prices make sense. Still cheaper than airport food. Was in Yosemite to see the firefall which only occurs in mid to late February. Stopped by to fuel up before heading to the El Capitan Picnic Area to wait for the light to hit Horsetail Fall just right. Online menu identified vegan chili as the only option so I was surprised that they had a rotating menu of daily specials made with local, seasonal ingredients. That night, they had mushroom ragout with three side options: mashed potatoes, quinoa, and veggies. After a full day of hiking, we got both chilli and ragout. Good, comfort food for a winter evening in a beautiful setting. If you're in Yosemite during the limited winter season, Base Camp Eatery is probably your best bet for casual dining in the entire Yosemite Valley. The menu items are mostly separate and can add up in price quick. The tables are spread apart and there is lots of space. The food was what you'd expect for a food court. It got the job done. Prices are similar to airport pricing, you won't go hungry but you are basically paying double. Which is okay if the food is good, but it's just typical cafeteria food and very bland. Be prepare to put salt and pepper on everything. We ate a few meals here during our 4 nights stay at Yosemite Valley lodge. We tried the tofu curry and meatloaf entrees, it comes with choices of sides such as veggies, roasted potatoes, mac & cheese, white rice etc. The pork chop specials one night was decent however a bit chewy. We also had their veggie pizza one night, the wait was 30 minutes but surprised it turned out to be pretty good. We also had their veggie wrap, chicken salad, yogurt cup, and fruit cup. The best snack was the chocolate chip cookies! We got a couple of those! The line does get long during dinner so plan accordingly. There's a Starbucks but don't trust the hours, they are open whenever they feel like it. All the workers wore masks during Covid and the indoor dining room was open. But since our lodge was close by, we just took everything to-go and ate our food back in our room. Side Note: For a change of scenery, we drove to Degnan's Sandwiches couple times. They have a Peet's Coffee, breakfast sandwiches, and lunch with pizzas and sandwiches. One of the better options in Yosemite if you just want to eat and don't want to deal with long lines and massive crowds. It was basically the only eatery where we could find parking at noon on a weekday during off-season. You order on a kiosk and they come out with your food relatively quickly. We got some burgers and sandwiches. The quality of the food is not spectacular, but it's also pretty cheap so I would consider it decent value for Yosemite. They have a nice, clean restroom and you can sit indoors or outdoors. read more

We needed some good ol' BBQ on July 4th, especially since we were in the middle of a National Park, so a definite no on fireworks this year. We shared the chef's special ($26): St. Louis ribs with roasted potato salad and kale. The ribs could have used more cooking time, as they were nowhere near fall-off-the-bone. Thankfully, I still have a decent set of choppers because I needed them to get the meat off the ribs. The kale was ridiculously salty and spicy. It must have been soaking in salt and red pepper all day. Potato salad was decent. I enjoyed the cool coleslaw, which was a nice surprise since it wasn't even listed on the menu. This cafeteria style eatery is fairly new and clean. The line workers are no nonsense. Some grab and go items are also available in the fridge, but looked really overpriced in comparison to the hot food items. I saw a medium sized Caesar salad was going for a whopping 18 bucks! There's indoor and outdoor patio seating available. You're supposed to bus your own tables, but of course you have people who just leave their garbage for others to clean up. read more

We arrived early for our valley tour and we're hungry so we stopped at Base Camp for some breakfast. You order on the kiosks machines located by the entrance pay at the machine not much of selections just your basic breakfast items. We both ordered the scrambled eggs / potatoes / croissant / you can either have breakfast sausage or bacon we ordered the sausage with a side of bacon and I will say the bacon was good. The portions are small just enough without worrying about having to deal with left overs or wasting food. The croissant is small but it was good The place was not crowded when we arrived but was getting more packed as we waited there for our tour to start They switch the menu from breakfast to lunch / dinner fairly quick so make sure you arrive in enough time to get there in time for which ever meal you are planning on eating read more

Centrally located in Yosemite Valley near Valley Lodge and Mountain room restaurant, Base Camp is a convenient little food court for recharging after hikes. My mother and I were visiting the park and after hiking the 4-mile trail, we were looking for something easy and satisfying to fill our stomachs. Base Camp has a few options (2 poke bowls, Mediterranean options, as well as burgers and hot dogs). We visited around 2:30pm for a late lunch, and there was no line at all. Service was fine, and it was nice that the building had two water bottle refill stations. We ordered the vegan beyond burger ($11.25) and black bean burger ($8.95) which we both enjoyed. It appears that almost everything except the pizza, burgers & fries are pre-made in the back and held in steam tables, pots, etc. in order to feed a lot of people fast. The dinner bowls we had were OK, but the hot food wasn't authentically hot, just warm. I guess if your holding pre-cooked food, keeping it truly hot would over-cook it. Breakfast was far worse. The pancakes were large and fluffy, and tepid, at best. Not warm enough to melt butter. They're premade and stored in a steam cabinet, which made service fast and little else. Decent flavor, but the texture and temperature on the morning after a snow, was barely above room temperature. Coffee was OK and SUPER hot, but the adjacent Starbuck's coffee was better. If you have low expectations, you may still be disappointed, but there aren't too many alternatives, but there are some that we didn't try. Next time, the others will be serving our breakfast. NOTE: prices are pretty reasonable, especially considering the location. read more

Prime example of supply and demand. They are the only place that's open in the evenings if I'm not mistaken. And all the hundreds of guests have to eat somewhere. So what's to prevent them from jacking up the prices while serving average food? Nothing actually. So that's basically what you get here. Expensive food that is average at best. Which also means that customer service is average at best, because who cares if they don't care, what are you going to do, not order from them and then what, be hungry all night? As of mid March, for dinner They have 3 different "places" there to order food. A poke place, a Mediterranean place and a grilled burger and hotdog type place. All from the same long counter, ran by the same employees jumping back and forth btwn "restaurants." I ordered their salmon poke, and we also got 2 dishes from the Mediterranean joint, including their lamb kabobs well as their grilled citrus chicken. Not much modifications you can do with the poke bowl. It's either yes or no on like 2 sauces and 3 dried ingredients. Extremely limited. And it was actually pretty spicy, that's why I didn't get the spicy tuna option.... oh well..... the lamb was not bad. Grilled chicken was on the drier side. You also get to choose 2 different sides for each entree. There's like 6 different but similar options to choose from. Dining room is a huge mess room. Just tables upon tables and chairs upon chairs. Sit wherever you want kind of style. I know it's a tourist town, but their bottles of budwiser was like 6.75 a bottle which is just insane! Next time I'll bring a 12 pack in from Oakhurst or fresno, or basically anywhere not in the national park. For everything we ordered it was north of 65 bucks. It is hard to imagine how the food and 'service' could be worse here. Starting with the kiosk where you order, everything was poorly done. The items on the screen are not actually what is on order. The choices are very limited, and the food was bad. A simple cheeseburger was so overcooked and dried out, it had to be returned and a new one ordered. The fries went straight into the trash. And we observed others throwing their cold, stale, tasteless fries in also. My black bean burger was tasty, and the Cole slaw was outstanding, with pieces of kale added in. If you set your expectations, it is what you would expect from a remote cafeteria style restaurant IN a National Park. They did have a decent selection of Breakfast and dinner fare, (we were never there at lunch time), at slightly elevated prices, but nothing more than you would expect for the location. We take out for breakfast, TRY the Yogurt Fruit Parfait. Very thick and creamy yogurt, fruit and granola. We did scrambled eggs and coffee also. Dinner had several menu's, hamburgers, chicken and even Poke Bowls. My only niggle would be that the food came up so fast that as you were getting your self serve coffee, they food was ALREADY there!!!! read more
