I was a little hesitant because with a name like basil delight I thought it was run by yt ppl, but is 100% family run authentic south East Asian business. Som Tum (papaya salad) was so yummy, a solid staple, don't forget to get it a little spicy. Kampong Fried Rice is my new favorite type of fried rice! You can taste the sambal yum. You know a place is authentic when you can taste the shrimp paste they use! Pad see ew was a bit on the sweeter side but still yummy. Very disappointed in our experience with basil delight today. They use to have big portions and consistent food, not to mention wonderful customer service. I can not say the same today. We ordered to go last week and asked for less oil in our fried rice, since there have been multiple instances where there was way too much oil in our fried rice. It was great with less oil. Today we were just extremely disappointed to see that our side of rice was like porridge & our fried rice was not only Extremely oily, the rice was super mushy and wet as well. Not to mention their portions are half of what they use to be but nearly double the price. Which we don't mind too much if the food were made correctly. I nicely went in and told the man at the counter discretely that our fried rice was extremely oily even though we asked for less oil & that the rice was just inedible.. he had asked if we wanted them to redo it which we kindly denied. We just wanted to let management know that they are going to be losing customers at that rate. With all the bad experiences outweighing the good, we will not be back. =( customer service is still wonderful though. So 2 stars for them. read more

Giving this place a solid 4. Everything we ordered tasted amazing! It is still a little bit of a drive for us from Lathrop, but we don't mind going to this area as it has an Asian market (ranch 99) we can go to right after. Desserts for days (somi somi, happy lemon, etc.) and just a great plaza to be around in. What we ordered: Summer rolls: this was just ok, nothing special; the peanut sauce was excellent. Tom Kha soup: perfect to start any meal. We ordered a large to share for the table, and we all agreed it was tasty. Tamarind shrimp: This was great, but it got too sweet if you overate it. Maybe ask for light on the sauce. Garlic fish filet: great flavor and my fave out of all the seafood dishes we ordered Pineapple fried rice: Even my picky eater loved this rice! They were generous with the shrimp, and the fried rice was full of flavor. Pad Thai (not pictured): my friend ordered this to go, I did have a taste, and it was yummy!!! I'd definitely order this next time. All in all, what a satisfying meal with family and friends. We had plenty of leftovers, so the serving sizes were great for sharing. I'd come back again. Price is very reasonable, $14 pad thai has shrimp and chicken. However the taste is a bit off, it tastes sweet. Unsure if the chef add ketchup to it. Drove to Livermore for this place only because it's halal... personally I'd rather eat pescatarian/vegetarian options at a local Thai/fusion-Asian restaurant than return here. The fried garlic fish was possibly one of the worst fried items I've ever eaten in my life... you could taste the frozenness and double-fried oiliness on the fish everything else was under seasoned and bland. Whenever my work sends me to the Livermore plant to do IT work, I walk from my Hotel and come here for dinner. The waitresses are always friendly and make an effort to ensure that I am enjoying my meal. Their Green Curry (while they never make it spicy enough) is one of the best Green Curries I have ever had. It is filled with a generous portion fresh veggies that are perfectly cooked. I have never had a Green Curry with such a generous serving of veggies, it definitely places their curry into a higher caliber of curry. Moreover, their curry is not oily. The flavors are spot on. I love this dish so much, that this is my primary restaurant when I'm in Livermore for work. I also enjoy their Roti bread, perfectly cooked Roti with a cucumber salad and sauces. I also appreciate the size of their vegetarian menu, it has a good selection of dishes. Only negative is that they do not serve alcohol and I love plum wine with my Thai dishes. They also do not have drunken noodle which is my all time favorite Thai Dish. 100% recommend Basil Delight. read more

My dad was craving Thai food all day so we stopped by for the first time after shopping at the outlets. The server was quick to take our order and also provided us with everything we needed in a timely manner. The food also didn't take too long to come out. We only waited ten minutes max! Plus, it helped that it was delicious and perfectly cooked. The spice in the green beans was just enough to get flavor without burning my tongue. The glass noodle soup was also very good and the addition of the peas and carrots gave it a nice sweetness. We ordered the crab meat fried rice as well and it was really yummy. Honest rating was 3.5 stars. My coworker and I got there around 1:20pm on a Monday. We got seated immediately and service was pretty quick. I ordered a Malaysian noodle dish and my coworker got Pad Thai. We also got thai tea. The foods were just okay. The Pad Thai was super good! It's the first pad Thai I really really liked! The Malaysian noodle dish wasn't good.. it tasted kind of like rotten food so I didn't eat too much of it. I only had one bite of it. The Thai tea was super good too! The tea wasn't too strong and it wasn't too sweet, perfect balance! Service was pretty good! They gave us free soup since we wanted noodles but the lunch menu didn't give that option. Whenever I see an eatery or a restaurant or a cafe or even a tearoom with Malaysian food, it's a place I'll go and try at least once. Born and raised in Malaysia, I know what authentic Malaysian food is especially when my taste buds are primed every other year when I visit Malaysia. We had their: 1) Penang nasi lemak - not sure what's penang about it but definitely not authentic. Rice was not how nasi lemak should be as it was in the consistency of sticky rice and greenish. The rendang was more like panang curry (Thai curry). So this is definitely a downer. Hence the one star less from 5. 2) Curry laksa noodles - their curry laksa is consistent with penang assam laksa. It was delicious and flavorful. Definitely something I would go back for. 3) Chow kuay teow - tasty and fried well as that's how chow kuay teow should be. However, it was sweeter than it ought to be which makes it more like pad see eew. For American taste buds, this might be ok but can't fool a Malaysian. This also is a one star less from rating. Overall, the only thing I like is their curry laksa. So the verdict is undecided as to whether I'll be back here at the moment - unless I'm craving for Assam laksa. read more

This place deserves a two stars because the food is good. As far as being halal 100% I don't think so, the employees and owner can't even understand the simple Islamic hello (Salam) I ask them if they are Muslim and they didn't understand. So how do we know if pork is being cooked in the back kitchen, any pork has been cooked or warmed up in the kitchen will disqualify from being anything halal. I feel like they have that sign up just to gain interest since majority of the people in that area are Muslims or Indians. When you go to any halal restaurant someone in that restaurant who is working will be a Muslim and knowing that simply makes you feel better that you are having food that follows the Islamic rules, not just the killing but how the food is cooked and treated, how clean the cooks hands are. You can't scratch a hair in your body without washing before touching the food or else it's not halal. read more

I called on Friday evening to place a pick up order. I ordered Penang nasi lemak, mee goreng mamak, and kampoeng cashew with chicken. Right at 20 minutes mark that they estimated me, I arrived at the restaurant and my food was ready. The nasi lemak was delicious! The rendang beef was tender and had lots of meat. It tastes a bit sweeter than usual rendang that I had before but it still taste good. The nasi lemak comes with coconut rice (that was fluffy and delicious!), boiled egg, roasted peanut & anchovies, and pickled cucumber. The only thing that was missing is the sambal - not sure why they didn't include it in the menu but for me, the sambal is what make nasi lemak taste complete. I also love the mee goreng mamak. The flavor was pretty authentic and hearty - just like the one I had in Singapore. The kampoeng cashew was good too but the sauce was spilled all over my trunk so I only tasted a wee bit of the good sauce. Overall, the food & portion were good. When she came to get our order, she was already showing attitude. When it was time to pay for our food, she took my card to the counter came back a few minutes later and asked if I had another card because she said she tried multiple times and it was declined. She said to check if I had enough fund in my card because it might be insufficient fund. I checked my online banking service and the transactions showed that she charged my card multiple times. Ofc. I came here for lunch on Friday, we had heard about this place from a few friends and relatives and they had pretty good recommendations. They have a lunch special menu here, and also a wide variety of noodles, rice, curry, and wok fried dishes. They were pretty packed despite the smoggy weather, and after we sat down the restaurant started becoming pretty full. I wasn't too sure what to order because I didn't spend enough time on yelp beforehand, so ended up ordering the penang nasi lemak which was the 1st option on the lunch menu, the spicy wings, and the glass noodle soup with shrimp and chicken. The glass noodle soup came out first, it was a very large portion but it didn't have much substantiating items in it. I felt very full of liquid after drinking most of it. This was my first time trying penang nasi lemak, and I was so happily surprised. The curry was sweet and a little spicy, and tasted so delicious with the coconut rice. The portion was large enough that I could only eat half. The spicy wings weren't breaded, but the sauce tasted pretty similar to other spicy / sweet wings I have had at other southeast asian restaurants. The food all came out super quickly, less than 15 minutes for all the food items total. I will be back again and want to try their basil fried rice, green curry, and the roti with curry peanut sauce. read more

The food at this restaurant was better than I expected. Main dishes: *Fried squid with Spinach - squid was very tender and well-fried, but why put it on a bed of raw spinach?? I'd rather have blanched spinach instead. It was weird to me. Basil Delight is one of our take out staples (we order from here at least once a month!). The food never disappoints! So much flavoring, reasonable prices/portions, and on top of that it's halal! We usually call beforehand and place our order. Whoever picks up the phone is always so friendly and offers recommendations. They also give a time frame of when the food will be ready which is always accurate. Pick up is easy and Covid friendly :) Our personal favorite is their laksa - the curry is delicious and with all the meat/noodles, it's very filling and such a unique dish! We have also like their green curry, pad thai, and basil eggplant. Honestly, you can never go wrong with anything you order!
