Great place! It's encouraging to see such a nice restaurant complement Tispy McSways, the Corner Cafe and other downtown restaurants. Service is always excellent. I've only ever eaten the chicken curry, but it's delicious and the kitchen is willing to accommodate your preferences. As for the post about the alcohol license, Basil was waiting to get approval from the state and then had to present to the city. They have their license now and the drinks are strong and great! PROS: Decor is trendy. Prices aren't bad. Service was pleasant. CONS: The sushi is awful. Beware of any restaurant where "and sushi" is tacked on the end of the name, because it's quite clear that here it's an afterthought. In the rolls we had, there was more rice than filling, and they tasted just 'meh'. I've seriously had better sushi from Kroger. We happened to stopover at the basil thai and sushi restaurent for dinner while going to orlando. the restaurent is located in a pretty little lively town. The architecture of the building where the restaurent is located is great. however, we found the restaurent to be very dimly lit to our liking. The food had certain highpoints. The fried rice was pretty authebtic. However the shrimp in the fried rice was under cooked. The pad thai, though was tasty.. I found the noodles to be a bit over cooked. This did not stop me from finishing the whole thing off quickly and i found thw quantity served to be a little less. The sauces served were spicy and tangy. The staff was courteous. So I finally visited historic Brunswick and visually I like the area. It definitely has that new-old feel to it. Like a modern renovation over old foundation. Visually stunning. So, as I venture further I saw Basil Thai and honestly, it wasn't the Thai nor sushi that caught my attention. It was a huge picture advertising martini. We came in at 250 and the place closed at 300 for dinner prep but the waitress happily attended us without batting an eye. The menu was interesting. Lots of the items looked really good but I was in the mood for sushi which is usually because it looked like a predominately Thai joint. Anyway, I ordered my standard sashimi and my friend ordered three different rolls. My sash was decent nothing over the top and the quality was okay. Nothing extremely good nor was the presentation all that exciting. My friend's rolls were okay. The rice was a bit crumbly for sushi was the insides of each roll were okay. The crunchy spicy tuna was divine and the siracha roll was pretty good too. She ordered a cali roll which is pretty much the most boring roll ever but it was good. Now! The best part is theres like 10+ different types of Martinis offered here which is awesome! I ordered the Lavender Martini and she ordered a Cosmo. The lavender martini tasted just as the name implies, lavender and vodka. It was an interesting mix but just a bit too sweet for me. The Cosmo however was perhaps one of the best Cosmos I've ever had. It is definitely a top contender. Overall, I will definitely go back. They have martini special sun-thru which are half price so thats 4 bucks where the original price is 8. I love the martini selection and for that I will return. I love Basil Thai! (Although I always want to call it Thai Basil, like Art Basel! Lol). The ambiance is more Urban Sleek than you typically find in Brunswick (#TwoThumbsUp!!!) I've had the filet mignon twice, and the chef/owner T.C. is always happy to substitute the veggies that accompany it for me. Friends have had the lamb chops and chicken, and they loved that, too. Couldn't see through the glass windows but a customer outside sitting and reading a book with a glass of wine gave this place a glowing review. We went with some friends and here were the final results. We tried the Basil Tasting appetizer and we liked everything - it was delicious. The roasted pork tenderloin was tender and was not bad. The grilled sea bass was okay too. I loved my Brunswick Roll sushi, my only complaint would be that the rice is just a bit gummy. However this is the best place in town for fresh sushi. The yellow chicken curry was delicious and everyone loved it when they tried some of it. The Raspberry cheesecake was good. The Supreme chocolate cake was very rich almost like a truffle versus a "cake." We went there for a business lunch and I recommended it, even though I had never been there. We were short on time. The interior was super cool, something you would expect in Atlanta or Chicago. I told the waitress that we were pressed for time so tell us what is quick to prepare. She saw to everything and we were out in time to make it to our meeting. The service is beyond amazing as they were able to accommodate large dinner party (about 15 of us) without compromising the quality of their service. The only thing I didn't care for was the spider roll. There was barely any trace of the crab meat, avocado or much else beside the rice. This establishment was far from any expectations I had. First, the customer service and sanitation exhibited horrifying qualities. I ordered to-go and what they wrote down was far from any resemblance of my name- despite spelling it out letter by letter. I had to wait 20 minutes because of the name mix up and management did nothing. I witnessed the sushi chef handling money and then going right back to making sushi without changing gloves at all.
