I wish there was an option for more stars. This place us absolutely amazing. Having lived in Italy for almost a year i have a very high bar. This place better than 95% of what I ate at family restraunts in Italy. The Osso Bucco, chicken and oranges with fennel, and the deep fried zucchini were phenomenal and the Tiramisu and Millefoglie was absolutely delicious. The staff was thoroughly and friendly. I have been wanting to come here ever since it was recommended to us. The parking is horrendous. There is a gravel parking lot in front with only about 10 spaces and then a road in front of that where most of it you can't park because it's peoples houses and they have signs and cones up to not park there. We spend a half hour trying to park in two spots that were too small. I recommend getting there before 5:30 or after 8 to avoid a parking nightmare. We made a reservation for 2 at 7. Recommend making a reservation. Service is slow and didn't really talk to us, the waiter was very quiet but nice. Bread and water was brought out quickly. The standout was the stuffed mushrooms. 5 stuffed mushrooms and they were not soggy at all. The sauce was light and delicate. The stuffing was like fluffy bread stuffing on thanksgiving. It had vegetables in it. Never had a stuffed mushroom this good. I got the pappardelle with veal and it was delicious. Huge portion had to take half of it home. I was expecting ground veal but no this was chunks! They were very tender and delicious. The sauce was standout. It was buttery and light at the same time, perfect red sauce. My husband got an eggplant pasta dish. It was a bit too spicy for me but he liked it. Prices are reasonable was around 75 plus tip for us. The inside is nice and cozy and airy. Have driven by so many times and never been to before. Inlaws invited us to dinner. We ordered a few appetizers for the table. I will admit I wasn't crazy about the Cesar salad dressing. For main I went with the fettuccine bolognese. The pasta is fresh made in house and was amazing. And the bolognese sauce was delicious and just the right Spice. My plate was clean by the end. Fave italian food ive ever had!!! Everything was so good. Came with friends and had baked clams and calamari for appetizers. I got the Prosciutto fettuccine for my main and it was so tasty. I also tried some of my friends risotto which was so flavorful. Great service and homey ambiance. read more

I hosted a dinner for 20 here. We were able to sit comfortably in a separate room. I preordered apps and everyone ordered their own entrees. Stuffed mushrooms, lightly fried calamari, shrimp and vegetables and baked clams were all delicious. They came out hot and the apps were nicely paced. Everyone loved their entrees with the branzino being the stand out. We ended with tartufo and cake. Everyone left happy. The service was amazing. I can't believe Basilio Inn has always been right under my nose. While this restaurant is literally a small house, it's still hidden away. Yet, this adds to its appeal. My boyfriend took me on a date here once and we enjoyed it so much that we come back for special occasions. The pork chop parmigiana and Pappardelle with veal ragu are the top meals that we reminisce about. The whole experience is also pleasantly old-fashioned. The tables are all lined with table cloth, complimentary bread is served before each meal, and just indulging in a meal here feels very sophisticated. I've also been heard a rumor that the owner closes the establishment every winter to visit his home in Italy and generally comes back with a new unique recipe! read more

Celebrated my friend's belated birthday and I couldn't be any happier or stuffed! We went during a weekday evening, very quiet. I had the birthday celebrant choose all of the dishes and we shared them - probably ordered a little more than we should have. My favorite was the calamari because it included crispy zucchini and sweet potato chips. It was fried pretty well For entrees, we had the fig and roasted duck and the shrimp risotto. The figs were pan sauteed and a nice compliment to the duck. The risotto was very cheesy and had a good thick consistency. read more

Disappointing, what was once an excellent restaurant is now cutting corners. The liquor served was top shelf prices but bottom shelf. Tasted like metal. The specials have no prices and when asked, waiter gave a range. Why, do they change the price? I ordered the pappardelle special. The noodles were delicious but they were the size of lasagna noodles and had to be cut with a knife, could not use provided spoon. It was awkward trying to eat it and the sauce wound up splattering all over me. Red sauce had much too much oil and fried zucchini was mushy and oily also. They offer a "Private room for an extra $9 per person and minimum of 10. It was part of the main room with a decorative alcove. Not private, no door and very small. We had 10 people and were cramped. We came with friends for a nice meal and wasn't disappointed. The owner greeted us , sat and had a pleasant conversation with us . He's very nice . We started with some sangria which we usually get when we eat out followed by zucchini flowers and some barratta with zucchini for appetizers. Me and the wife had the Basa which is a white fish with polenta in a garlic sauce which was awesome. Didn't have desert as we were stuffed. Wait staff was great and recommend giving this a try. A nice experience. We went there with another couple. Pulled up to ample parking in this historic house that is Basilio. We ordered wine by the glass and a bourbon on the rocks. Service was spot on, friendly but not intrusive. Dishes that were ordered included shrimp with brandy sauce with risotto, linguine and seafood in a white wine sauce, branzini and parpadelle with veal ragu. Everyone enjoyed their meal. COLD pieces of cheese in risotto, mussels were tasteless in a watery onion broth mushrooms were hard cold stuffing. No waitress came to check on us. The only saving grace was the Napoleon cake. A friend and I were birding in Elizabeth when we received a text, a very rare bird had been spotted on Staten Island. We abandoned what we were doing and headed to the Mount Loretto Unique Area where we joined dozens of folks looking at a Tropical Kingbird. The bird, took a wrong turn in migration and instead of resting comfortably in Mexico, wound up in Staten Island. Having seen the bird, we gave substantial thought to a celebratory late lunch, early dinner. A friend recommended that we come here. We're so glad he did! We sat in an outdoor courtyard and talked and ate and drank and all was right with the world. Some fried zucchini to start off. Very well fried and a good marinara sauce. For mains, my friend had duck and figs, the figs coming from their own tree. How cool is that? I had shrimp in a brandy sauce. Everything was really delicious. Stopped into Basilio 's Inn tonight based on the high recommendations of others. We came in with some high expectations due to the long standing history of the restaurant. We started off with stuffed mushrooms and fried anchovies, then moved to the main course which we ordered spaghetti alla chitarra, gnocchi shrimps with cherry tomatoes, and bucatini amatriciana, and finished with Tiramisu, apple tart, and flan. Lets start at the beginning with the apps. The mushrooms were too small for the amount of filling that seemed to be mostly breadcrumbs. The fried anchovies won this round overall. The gnocchi with shrimps and cherry tomatoes was lacking flavor and the gnocchi weren't all completely cooked. Wtih the bucatini amatriciana the pasta was perfectly al dente but the dish was lacking garlic and flavor. The best main we has was the spaghetti alla chitarra which wasn't meeting the high expectations. The desert was the star of the meal and would say this was the overall only reason we would stop back in on another trip. The service was really slow and we had to ask for bread once the main course came to the table. Seemed like for the amount of space there was only 1 server and another that was helping bring out dishes and buss tables. read more

The best meal I've had in Staten Island so far (and I've spent this past month really making my way through its restaurants). To start off with, the restaurant has a nice, quiet, almost rustic charm to it. I was seated along the front of the building, nowhere near anyone else, which in the time of COVID was just how I liked it. This was actually my first time eating at a restaurant instead of just ordering take out since the pandemic began, and I gotta say, I'm pretty damn happy with my choice. Based on prior reviews, I was pretty set on going with either the pappardelle with goat cheese or the spaghetti with tomatoes and smoked mozzarella. Two separate staff members recommended the spaghetti so ended up ordering that one. Let me tell you, I'm normally not one for vegetarian dishes but this one was fantastic. Fresh, simple ingredients, incredible sauce-- I had pretty high expectations going in and this dish managed to exceed them. For dessert, decided to go with something I haven't tried before and ordered the millefoglie, which was delicate and went really well with my coffee. I saw some other reviews mentioned issues with getting their food in a timely manner-- mine came out in like 10 min? Would recommend going early (before 6) or making a reservation as seating is pretty limited. It's a shame I'm leaving SI tomorrow-- would have liked to come back to try the pappardelle. read more
