This meal was just okay, but maybe my expectations were wrong. What I was expecting: old school, red sauce joint. Huge portions, crispy veal parm and chicken smothered in cheese and red sauce, side of spaghetti topped with more cheese and you guessed it- red sauce, large portions, free flowing wine. What we got: Small portions, no traditional red sauce dishes, no sides of pasta (just potato and cabbage, sort of weird) and poor service which resulted in a heavy lack of free flowing wine. We started off with a burrata appetizer. The burrata was extremely rich and full of flavor, but the portion was skimpy. For my main I ordered the house veal (veal basilo) which was advertised as being topped with prosciutto and mozzarella. The veal cutlets were small and thin and there was a very teeny amount of mozzarella. But, the biggest let down was the miniature piece of prosciutto that came on top of the meat. A side of pasta would have been nice and the plan potatoes and cabbage did not really compliment the meal. The star of the show was my fiance's pasta which came with a generous portion of homemade pasta and was topped with spinach, a tomato cream sauce and fresh mozzarella. I also tried some of my sister's pasta carbonera and this was delicious. So are there some things I would come back for? Yes. The homemade pasta is tasty and the interior is cute and cozy. This is the oldest restaurant on Staten Island and the space has some really nice charm and character. But, if I am going to go out for old school Italian food I'd really love to find a place with that will serve me a generous portion of a classic red sauce dish. It's weird to leave an Italian restaurant feeling a bit hungry. I also wish that the service was more attentive. We were able to order wine right when we sat down, but other then that did not have the chance to order again with a server until the end of the meal when it was too late. 2.5 stars, rounding up to 3. read more

With all due respect definitely overrated. The food was OK nothing super impressive nothing extremely authentic. I had the bolognese it was somewhat dry and a bit gamey. The service was a bit pushy we had kids with us and we could tell they were unwelcomed we didn't feel like our business was needed. Ciao Bella- this is the closest taste of Italy without driving to JFK to catch an Alitalia flight to the homeland! The dining room is separate from the bar area which has additional tables. There is also a patio area for dining ala fresco, take advantage of the summer months, before they close for winter. Make a reservation or arrive at 5:30 PM when they open to be first one seated. Large parties break bread here for a delicious meal with vino and leave room for dessert. Business I never thought that this place will ever be as low as it's been and it's 103 years of business And I've been going there almost 20 years. I really want to thank some of the other reviewers about this place, mostly not to be deterred by the seemingly "out of business" look the place sports when you pull on to the dead end. We got out of the vehicle and looked around incredulously as if "uh, wait you sure this place is open?" and well we walked closer and wouldn't you know it we could smell the food and headed over. CHARMING would be the first word that comes to mind. The waiter came over and asked where we'd like to be seated, it was a nice evening so we went out to the back deck. You can see the little garden where they grow their herbs and veggies. That itself was promising. Ok so onto the real stuff. after going over the menu we decided fried calamari, pasta e fegioli and Insalata di rucola con pere alla griglia e gorgonzola (went w goat cheese instead) pictures are added to this review as well. The calamari was done to perfection although there were a few dabs of oil lingering on the bottom when we go to it, but no biggie, the marinara was fresh and def had fresh herbs and garlic in there, although it didn't really stand up when partnered w the calamari. The salad was amazing, the grilled pears went well together w the glaze and goat cheese. def not a dainty portion. for the main course i went with Linguine alla "Luciana" (clams, mussels, shrimp & calamari in white wine sauce) even though we were there later on in the evening the sea food tasted fresh and nothing gamey at all. The shrimp seemed to be straight out of the ocean. the plating was very appealing and honestly i could have done with a second serving of the seafood. The pasta was cooked to perfection. Also tried the Fettuccine al Prosciutto onions, prosciutto in cream sauce and instantly regretted getting half a portion, you may want to ask for a side of bread with this dish to get that marvelous sauce and drippings at the end of the meal. One thing i found interesting was that the dessert menu wasn't brought to until the end of the meal and the table was pretty much cleaned off, its as if they want you to settle down before more amazingness hit the place. unfortunately I can't remember the name of the desserts that were had but i can promise you they were unreal, also made on premises. The wait staff were personable and worked the whole room, they were very attentive and helped recommend the meals. the owner was also on hand and came around to say hello and ask how everything was. all in all i would def come back to this place and count it among my few "gotta go back" places. read more

What a gem. This was our first ever visit to Staten Island and we ate twice at Basilios. The service, ambience and food were excellent. Zuppa de Pesci and Merluzzo (fish appetizer) were excellent. Bolognese with homemade pasta was also excellent. Don't miss this one. You will be glad you went there for dinner. This little gem is in the cut. After a day at the beach, a friend recommended we stop in for some el dente Italian food. It looks a home turned into a restaurant, but cozy. We you walk up you already know you're in for an experience. Waiters are dressed in white button downs & polite. We ordered merlot & my daughter had a white wine. Next, I ordered ravioli bolognese & my friend had the linguini with fresh tomatoes & shrimp. We cleaned our plates. Needless to say, I'll be back. Looking forward to the risotto! Absolutely AMAZING meal....homemade burrata with grilled zucchini, baked clams, homemade pumpkin gnocchi in a sage butter sauce, homemade fettuccini bolognese with burrata and the most unreal homemade Neapolitan. Our waitress Nelly was so sweet and gave the best recommendations on the wine and the dishes. The bill was also very reasonably priced. I would recommend making a reservation. The ONLY issue that I had is that the resturant is very hard to find. The directions bring you to the back of the house (they should have a sign saying to go around the corner). Then when you get to the front, the resturant is down a Court that you can very easily missed. Not being from the area it was just a little annoying. But the food......Outstanding read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. I first got introduced to Basilio by my cooler friends a few years back. Since then I've returned frequently with both family and friends. I hosted the 9th anniversary of my 21st birthday here. I guess the food is standard fare, if you've grown up across the bridge in Bensonhurst. There is an option to be outdoors or indoors. The place is sprawling while at the same time being intimate. There is parking. P. S. : My apologies to Basilio for my family members who've never had enough bread and have always been "frozen" by the AC. Who is in the know about exceptional Italian restaurants on the Island? Not, me, I'm from Brooklynn and this place was well worth venturing out to Staten Island! Basilio Inn's very unassuming appearance from the outside in no way prepared me for what I was in store for: Some of the best Italian dishes I have had in a long time... Made the right way. Appitizers: Calamari - I've had fried calamari all my life, made and seasoned in all kinds of different ways. From Randazzos in Sheephead Bay to Rao's on 114th Street in the Bronx. Some need lemon, some need sauce, but Basilio's fried calamari didn't need anything; It was stand-alone delicious, tender, perfectly seasoned and very lightly breaded. It had to be some of the best calamari I have had ever. Burrata: Was someone's Nonna back there making this? Growing up in Bensonhust, if you went to the foccaria and they had bad mozzarella or Burrata, they were out of business. I've seen the quality of this cheese decline throughout the years, but not here. The Burrata was as it should be: The outer layer of mozzarella was soft, yet firm enough to give it shape while the inside creamy stracciatella was just that, with a beautiful, delicate taste. I would go back with some friends just to have an antipasto, Burrata and some prosecco. We had a few other appetizers that were exceptional: Stuffed clams, fried mozzarella, arugula salad with pear, etc. risotto, gnocchi, osso bucco - Everything was delicious! I went there with 12 members of my family; we all had appetizers, entrees and every dessert they had to offer with cappuccino and espresso. They are all foodies and LOVED THIS PLACE! Not a complaint about anything served, the ambiance was perfect and our waitress Sandy was a doll! They close for the winter, and I cannot wait to go back in the spring to sit outside, have some wine and enjoy some zucchini flowers with that amazing Burrata! Congratulations Basilio Inn... After almost six hours of driving from DC to NY, we were starving. Decided to use Yelp to find a restaurant in Staten Island for dinner, and we stumbled upon Basilio Inn. The good thing about this place was the ample parking. As you know, NY is not the easiest place to find parking. I had the white bean soup for my appetizer and homemade bucatini for my entree. My partner has a service dog and we were denied service. This place is magical. I'm not exaggerating, it was an amazing time. This establishment has been open for over 100 years. We ordered almost everything on the menu and all of it was so delicious. We ordered the caesar salad and beet arugula salads which both were extremely delicious. Suspiciously delicious. And then we ordered the pappardelle with tomato and goat cheese which was chefs kiss. Supposedly the oldest restaurant building in SI and it looks and feels like it. The restaurant sits in the end of ta dead end street a little away from the main road. The dinning area is a gutted out room. A little confusing on the entrance to the place. The main entrance is the back door of the building with outdoor sittings. The front entrance is the service area that connected to another dinning area that was not open when we were there. Lots of home made items are listed on the menu. Ok so I came here during the pandemic for my birthday. It was very nice! They had nice outdoor seating. It was a very natural, garden-like setting. It was also very casual (many people go there all dressed up) but since the pandemic (and since its summer) all the patrons are in t-shirts and sandals. So you can definitely come and be comfortable, and not underdressed. The server was very attentive and nice! We had a lovely dinner and a bottle of wine recommended by the waiter. We stopped in a couple of times late at night, honestly just prior to closing when all of the staff was getting ready to leave, but the service was great both times and one occasion I didn't care for the dish and they made sure to comp it and take care of me. The owner here is buying the best of the best farm ingredients for all his dishes. You can taste the love the chef is putting into each and every dish. For appetizer I had the mozzarella en carozza, and it could not have been made any better! It was prepared just how my grandma from Sicily made it. The pastas here are house made, and I chose the spaghetti Alla chittara with fresh tomatoes and smoked mozzarella. It was excellent! The flavors to the dish were impressive. For dessert I had the Millefoglie it was very good made light and flaky. All desserts are house made as well just wish they had more desserts I tend to go for like a New York style cheesecake, chocolate cake, or a carrot cake option. Prices were very reasonable and the restaurant was very busy. The service was excellent and my waitress was helpful with deciding what to choose. I have to say I wanted to love it. I fully expected to love it because the reviews were so wonderful. And yet, this was one of the most disappointing meals I've had in recent memory. The stuffed mushrooms appetizers were bland and tasted like they were made by someone who can't cook. We ate them because we were hungry and they were expensive. Not expensive if they were delicious but overpriced certainly for the mediocrity we received. The entrees were also meh. I'm wondering who supplied these great reviews because our meal was uninspired at best. Let me state that I am full southern Italian. Would have been better with a red sauce. I still loved the dish. -Beets, Goat Cheese, Endive Salad $11.95 perfect blend, we ate ever scrap. -Braised Pork Ossobucco w/ Porcini Mashed Potato's. $24.95. Tasted great, fell off the bone. It was a very small portion. -Costoletta Di Maiale Alle Mele sautéed pork chop with apple in brandy white wine sauce $18.95. Our least favorite. Small piece of Pork with a ton of Green beans, apples, potato w/a delicious sauce. -Fresh Pappardelle Pasta w/ tomato's, Goat Cheese, basil onions and olive oil. $18.95. I loved this dish!! The portion was perfect and I even have a full portion to heat up tomorrow. -The Fresh Pasta Pappardelle w/ Lamb Ragu- very meaty and the Lamb is quite distinct against the fresh pasta. -tiramisu to share. The perfect sweet bite to top off your meal. The owner spent a lot of time at our table to talk about many of the dishes. He was very friendly. Wait staff was perfect.
