    Hot Chicken Plate
    Ploy N.

Some of the better hot fried chicken I've tried! Love how their sauce is not buffalo and was actually delicious on top of being spicy. The hot chicken plate came with two juicy thighs, fried fresh to crispy perfection on top of two toasty milk bread slices. Definitely a great post-drinking food. Staffs were so efficient too, churning out fried chickens throughout a busy weekend night. A super fun and energetic spot for late night grubs!

Have been wanting to try this spot for a long time and I have to say the hot chicken sandwich did not disappoint. Definitely on the heavy side though. It's in a cluster of other restaurants as well so you can make a food adventure out of it if you bring a date or some friends. Highly recommend! Service is at the counter. Mainly outdoor seating. Bring a jacket! Portland can be cold.

The service was quick and easy. They bring out the food to your table with the number they gave you. The sandwiches are massive! It can be easily shared as two sandwiches! The fries are also shareable with that Szechuan pepper kick and pickles and cilantro mix - AMAZING. The Zipper is a shared space so it is welcoming! Will be back to try other foods!

Delicious spot to have a spicy fried chicken sandwich. Solid fries, dog friendly, though they don't have dog options on the menu, they did offer to not salt the fries I was getting the dog. Super awesome service.

Checking in for the first time! Grabbed an IPA from Pinetop while waiting on a fried chicken sandwich. Cool vibes!

The cashier was very helpful and courteous!! Watching her dealing with other customers revealed the same cool attitude!! Now to the food: I purchased the chicken sandwich with crispy fries. Literally, the best fried chicken sandwich I've had so far at any restaurant. Huge serving with two perfectly fried pieces of scrumptious chicken. I'm not big of a chicken, but this is definitely one of the things that I will come back time and time again. My wife, who loves chicken will love this place! I had no idea that this place even existed and that there is like three or four restaurants within the same complex. Pretty dang cool!! Might be coming here for the next couple weeks while I'm visiting. The beer was really on point as well. The surrounding area kind of looks suspicious, but nobody seemed to bother or be bothered by anybody. I'm gonna make this one of my top visits while in Portland!!

Pretty decent Fried chicken sandwich. Very crunchy and decent. Nice outdoor space, shared with the other restaurants in the zipper. I have seen a lot of good reviews of this place but felt like the chicken wasn't as impressive to me. The fried part was a bit too oily for me and it felt as though the fried chicken was three pieces of thin meat and not as much chicken. It also felt like my fried chicken was left in the fryer a little too long. It could've just been the day. It's nice that they had hot sauce at the bar that you could easily choose from, though the labels were a little hard to read. The service was really nice though and helpful.

Great chicken sandwich, the crunchiest I've ever had. The restaurant is in a building with a few other eateries: A pizza place, Taco place and a Boba/ Banh Mhi place. You order at the front and take a number. Indoor and outdoor seating with a fire pit.

Still coming back. Staff kills it every time, always good if not better each time. Best chicken in town. Warm fire outside. Get your hard drinks next door. Please bring a food truck or second location to Gresham. You guys would crush it out there.

I prefer their scrumptious fried chicken in their salad versus the difficult to eat sandwhich.

Still #1 for fried chicken in a town that does it well. And service has gotten much friendlier compared to years past.

Basilisk is part of the Zipper with a handful of food options and a bar. There's plenty of seating and fire pits outside. Nice place to hangout as there's something for everyone. The ordering process was easy and the staff brought out our order directly to us. The coke float was interesting but good. It had a kool aid soft serve ice cream topped with Coca Cola, their twist on a classic root beer float.

The hot chicken plate was delish. We ate it on a hike when it was cold so can only imagine how good it is hot and fresh.

Is the fried chicken batter gluten free/is there anything gluten free on the menu?

The fried chicken is not gluten free.

    Is outside seating dog friendly?

    Yes

    Do they have beer?

I think they have a very limited selection but it doesn't really matter because all of the places at the Zipper are situated around a common seating area and you can always get food from one or more places and beer and cocktails from Paydirt.

With delivery and tip, our total was about $79...which seems steep, but realistically their "sliders" are about the size of a standard Popeyes chicken sandwich with a HUGE piece of chicken. We got 4 sandwiches, fries, mac and cheese and the five piece mozzarella "slabs" (they're not sticks lol), plus I ordered a large ranch and Dave's sauce (like a better version of Chic-Fil-A sauce) and a small hot honey and Reaper ranch...so price pretty standard for the amount of food. The food traveled well and these were literally the best chicken sandwiches we've had. Chicken was juicy and crispy and a dry season that was insanely good. Slaw was crunchy and pickles were tangy. I added hot honey and Dave's sauce to mine and they were amazing. Fries are standard crinkle cut, but well seasoned and crispy. Mac and cheese was good, pretty much the exact kind you'd want as a kid...gooey and Kraft like flavored but with shells and a little wetter. Mozzarella "sticks" were good, I got them in Mild and if anything they were seasoned with the same seasoning they use for the chicken and very good, but surprisingly a bit too salty for me...I'd probably stick to the sandwiches and the fries to be honest. OKAY, but for the HEAT LEVELS: I debated for a while on which to order because I'd say we have a decent spice tolerance...like habaneros are my favorite, but I find them spicy. Buldak ramen is hot as heck, but manageable. To be safe, I got us each a Mild and Medium the first time and we noticed very little variation between the two, and maaaaybe a small spice kick on the back end with the Medium. That being said, we both agreed we'd like a little extra spice next time and considering the jump between Mild and Medium was so minimal, we figured Hot or Extra Hot would be good for us. WE WERE SO WRONG. We ordered again on Sunday. Two Hot sandwiches and one Extra Hot to share...and I highly recommend ordering either of those if you enjoy pain, anguish, are looking to smell colors and taste sounds; because I'm pretty sure we both almost simply passed away. I used half a large container of Dave's sauce on my Hot sandwich as well as an ungodly amount of honey...and by the time the tears in my eyes cleared I realized my fiance was just walking laps through the house in between bites. The flavor is still there, but at what cost? About 20 minutes after eating we both resigned to carrying the fireball in our stomachs to lie down and wait to succumb to our choices, only to awake 4 hours later with hiccups and burps that would make a fire breathing dragon envious. Just be warned if you like spice, you won't find it in the Medium except for at a totally normal amount, if you love spice...you'll find it and then hate that you did at the Hot or above amount. Suffice to say, we'll be returning often...or ordering (whatever)...but we're sticking to Medium even if that makes us wimpy. And if you know someone who chooses Extra Hot or Reaper for enjoyment, you should not only fear them, but get a restraining order...because something ain't right if you can enjoy that. And if you're chaotic like us and STILL want to try a higher spice amount, do yourself a favor and just order a single tender first to try the different levels so you can enjoy your meal fully without being surprised at how one level can increase the spice by 1% and then the next somehow jumps it up 50%. I wish there was a way to get a Medium-Hot one, but I'd still rather take the less spicy, more flavor. Anyways, perfectly cooked chicken, fast service and I'd highly recommend!

Their fried chicken is to die for and they even bring you the gloves (which if I'm being honest I wouldn't use in the future because you can just wash your hands after and not contribute to plastic waste, but it was a fun and authentic feeling touch). Everything was fantastic and it had a really laid back vibe. We stayed and chatted for hours and the food was pretty reasonably priced. Parking is indeed a little tight but we got street parking no problem and its walking distance to the max as well. I can't wait to come back and this has inspired me to go find more pocha places in Portland. Thanks!

But as someone who lives in a different city now with a bigger Asian (and truthfully better) food scene, I do have some critiques. Their parking is very tight, you might have better luck parking on the road instead. But once you come in, the service is friendly and the menu has everything a pocha should have. Items we ordered included: Tteokbokki, Pajeon (Green Onion Pancake), Spicy Pork Belly, and Half/Half of the Original and Yang-Nyum Chicken. Tteokbokki was pretty standard, made the way it should be. For the pajeon, I think there is a lot of work that needs to be done. It was very soft and chewy all over, it SHOULD have a crispyness to the outside that adds a satisfying bite. My friend and I thought it resembled more like a Vietnamese banh xeo honestly. Spicy Pork Belly was pretty good, and had lots of grilled veggies alongside it. And for the chicken, great crisp but the skin did taste quite oily. All in all, food was decent, would recommend ordering soju or other drinks to pair with all this food. I've had my fair share of Pochas now, and have been to many better ones. But for Portland, this is very much satisfactory when you're out with a group of friends.
