We dined at Basil's to celebrate our 1st date 22 years ago at this restaurant when it was Lorenzo's. Different name but the ambiance is the same, the service and food still very good. Elvia greeted us warmly and showed us to a reserved table with a beautiful flower arrangement to make it special. The menu was printed special with "Happy Anniversary." Our server was Nicholas who we came to find out has been at the restaurant for 25 years, before our 1st date. We chatted about people we knew years ago. Nicolas provided attentive great service. He brought us complimentary champagne in recognition of our celebration, too. My husband ordered the baklava old fashioned, which was a tasty cocktail. Need to get that for myself next time. We shared the grilled octopus appetizer, which was a large tentacle perfectly grilled on a bed of arugula. So good. We each had a bowl of the avegolemono soup next. My favorite! My only complaint is that I can never enjoy the bread as it's sesame seed crusted. I really wish they would offer the same bread without the seeds as an alternative. It's the only negative as I can't do nuts/seeds. For dinner, we each had the Mediterranean Combo. I had the petite lamb kebobs and lamb meatballs with Greek potatoes. The kabobs were seasoned well but cooked too well done for me. I like lamb cooked medium rare, but they still were delish. The meatballs were amazing and the Greek potatoes were lemony good. My husband enjoyed his combo of dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) and spanakopita (spinach pie) with Greek potatoes. To end the meal we shared the Galaktobouriko, a baked orange custard in phyllo dough. Oh yum! We had such a wonderful evening. Basil's always makes it special for us and we never miss going on February 1st of every year. I made sure to let Elvia know just how much their efforts meant to us. I definitely recommend Basil's for any occasion or a date night or a summer night on the patio.

I wish I could give a 3.5, but I can round up to a 4 based on the service. Our waiter was outstanding. Great attitude and although there was a mistake made with our order, he fixed it and was super apologetic. The calamari was good, not great, but decent. We tried the taramousalata and it was also just okay, a little too tart and pink, which was kind of off putting. I was able to order the zucchini chips with skordalia that I had seen in help even though it wasn't on the menu. Like I said, our waiter was very accommodating. The chips were good, the skordalia was super garlicky mashed potatoes that could have used some salt and acid. We split the skirt steak and I had asked for the grilled veg to be substituted with Lima beans. We got to try both because they forgot about the substitution, then brought the beans a little later. We should have stuck with the grilled vegetables. The Lima beans were beautiful, but really needed salt. Overall, atmosphere was great, restaurant was clean and the waitstaff was very pleasant. The food needs salt and other seasoning adjustments, and it would be perfect.

Basil's is just okay. You'll get huge portions of mostly flavorless food. We tried Basil's Chips (thinly sliced zucchini, deep fried and served with your choice of skordalia or tzatziki - $14). Nice texture, but not much flavor. For dinner, I had the Grilled Lemon Chicken (bone in, half chicken with olive oil, lemon, garlic served over sautéed spinach garnish with a side of roasted potatoes - $26). I tasted the lemon, but not much else. It needed seasoning in a bad, bad way. I tried two cocktails and both were awful. The Fall Sangria and Fall Fashioned tasted like they were thrown together without anyone sampling the finished product. I didn't hate Basil's, it just wasn't my cup of tea. If someone suggested a return visit, I'd probably urge an alternative.

Beautiful little Greek place in Aurora. Food wise may be the dinner portion was too big for us. Good service though. Friendly staff. I would recommend the restaurant if you are in the area.

We are always treated so good here. I had a taste for lamb chops and the lollipop chops were a touchdown. Cooked to perfection, medium rare for me. Greek potatoes pair nicely. Lamb shank was also enjoyed by my parents. Made for a great birthday/Easter celebration. Looking forward to dining al fresco soon. They have a wonderful patio.

Beautiful sculpted building with lights wrapped around columns giving it an elegant feel. I started with a Fall Sour. The petite lamb kabob platter was okay. Service was great.

What a very nice restaurant located in the outter ring of the Fox Valley Mall with plenty of free parking right outside the door. The restaurant was beautifully appointed making the ambiance very relaxing and the service from when we walked in the door until we left was outstanding. We were there in the middle of a Saturday afternoon when it was pretty calm, but I have been there during their busy time, and the service was outstanding then as well. The bread served on the bread board at the start of the meal was very good and was especially good with the Avgolemono Soup. I am not real sure I would order the Chicken Parm again as the chicken seemed a little over processed. The Mousaka flavor was very good but the vegetables in it were cut rather large so they were not done to my liking and I needed a knife to eat it. One person at the table ordered the side of grilled vegetables and really enjoyed them. The Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken was really enjoyed by the person who ordered it. Vodka Gnocchi was very good nicely sauced and cooked to perfection. The restaurant including the restroom is easily navigated when using an assistive device for mobility.

if you like Greek food hit up basil's for an authentic experience. they bring bread olive oil and cheese to the table. The saganaki and zucchini chips were really good. Zucchini chips come in big portion easily can feed 3 to 4 people. I liked that they don't rush you to order quickly. the spinach spankopita and veggies was delicious. great experience overall

For being in the Fox Valley area, this place was pretty decent for lunch. Prices aren't terrible. Service was good. It wasn't busy. Gyros were very good. Portions are huge. Tarama (red caviar) with pita bread was a nice appetizer. I typically don't eat too much fried food, so I would just skip the deep fried zucchini. The lamb mac and cheese mostaccioli was a little salty. That's why I look off one star. However, there was a generous amount of meat in there.

New Year's Eve 2022 was my second time visiting Basil's, and like the first time, my second time did not disappoint. Despite being chock full of patrons, the restaurant was absolutely professional and handled the crowd really well. My husband I ordered the Saganaki, which I believe is a MUST try. If not for the salty, luscious flavor of this Greek pan fried cheese, then for the "flaming" experience it comes with. To give you an idea, the waiter will bring the cheese out, and then light it on fire (don't worry, it's well away from your hair, but I highly advise being careful with the hairspray!). It's a sight to behold, while all yell OPA! A fun experience, and highly recommended. The avgolemono soup is SUPERB. A silky, savory flavorful soup with a hint of zestiness that is sure to delight. I ordered the sea bass the first time, and it was supremely good, and this time I ordered the salmon, which is also pretty darn good. My husband ordered the Lamb Porterhouse which he ABSOLUTELY LOVED!!! I ordered the non-alcoholic Cherry Luxe, which was also amazing. Overall, I love the atmosphere, the food, the people at the restaurant...it's a definite yes from me for Basil's!

They have always* struggled with CONSISTENCY issues ever since they started (I've had raw chicken multiple times from them, now it's all burnt/dry), but it's more and more apparent recently. The meats are not only overcooked and EXTREMELY DRY, but the burnt exterior is a genuine *carcinogenic* (fact-check me) issue that leaves a disgusting taste in my mouth that is worse than sand IMO. The gyro meat is more grainy and un-chewable lately. The chicken is overcooked and dry as heck. The rice is undercooked and almost hard. The salads are less fresh, and I notice a distinct difference in the olives lately (more bitter and mushy, YUCK- I love good Kalamata olives, but NO thank you). I genuinely write this in a probably naive attempt to warn Kabobs that they are cutting too many corners that will probably, eventually, bite them. I would be very sad if that happened. I used to love Just Kabobs-- I've had great gyro and chicken and salad, etc, so I KNOW FROM THE PAST that they can do better. The main problem now* is that they are SUPER busy and they probably don't care about quality control because the money is rolling in, but I hope they will reverse course and get better quality ASAP. (PS; at their peak they are capable of 5/5 stars.-- I just feel that the quality has significantly* declined lately and it's sad to see, and waste money on. I couldn't stomach the burnt dry chicken kabobs I got last night and it's going to waste in my trashcan ).

Molos did not just deliver, it set a new standard for our little group dinners. We started with the Pikilia tasting plate and built our own trio of spreads. The roasted red pepper hummus was the unanimous table favorite, bold and deeply flavorful. The melitzanosalata was earthy and subtly sweet, a quieter but beautiful complement. The tirokafteri was good on its own but genuinely shone when swirled together with the other two. And the pita. That pita. Pillowy and soft with just enough structure to carry a generous pile of spread without collapsing. Outstanding. The fried zucchini with skordalia was fresh and light tasting despite being fried, a real trick. The potatoes needed a touch more salt to fully wake up but were otherwise solid. The saganaki was a table highlight, lit tableside with a proper OPA moment, gooey and beautifully crisped on top. Think mozzarella stick that went to finishing school. Mains were all exceptional. The filet mignon was wonderfully cooked, the EVO lemon sauce bringing a bright refreshing contrast to the richness of the beef. The pork chops were well charred and seasoned with the same confidence. The chicken ala feta was bright, light, and satisfying all at once. Dessert was a sampler of everything on the menu, all some gorgeous variation of creamy whipped filling, phyllo dough, honey, and nuts. Every single one cohesive and complementary. We tried them all and had no notes. We sat outside on a lovely evening, left with leftovers for days, and paid a price that felt almost unreasonably fair for what we got. Excited to go back and try more of their menu!

The atmosphere is still delightful with little sparkle lights along the windows and plenty of outdoor seating. They've added an Instagram wall ("Ouzo made me do it"). They now have a proper roasted Greek potato on the menu, and a vegetarian moussaka which I'm very excited about. Vegetarian items still not labeled; GF are. For mains, and vegetarians can get the spanakopita; a buttered macaroni with cheese; or combine various tasty dips from the appetizer section. There's also salad which I ignore. The online menu has a few appetizers I didn't see (zucchini with skordalia! Oven-baked lima beans!). Warning, at least where I was sitting: the booths can move (not nailed down) - be careful when you get up. I got the chef's special spanakopita/tiropita and the roasted potato; be very specific when ordering as I was served the special "Molos Greek potato" with garlic yogurt and shredded cheese, which was fine but not what I wanted. The spanakopita and tiropita were tasty, with a good ratio between filo and filling, served on a folded cloth napkin (great idea, even perfect filo-wrapped items can be a bit greasy). Service started a little slow, as there was apparently a big party (they do that and they cater now). It was OK though I'm not sure English was my server's first language. I'll be back for the moussaka, which looks great (someone at the next table ordered it) and will be very precise when ordering my roasted Greek potato. Hopefully with a side of giant lima beans in tomato sauce.

I have been a loyal customer for over 15 years, visiting about three times a month, and I always order the same thing: the Famous Chicken Gyro (#14, no tomatoes) with a fresh, made-to-order sack of fries. Until now, I have never had a problem. On 12/15 at approximately 5:10 PM, I came in and ordered my usual and dined in. When I bit into the gyro, after getting past the honey mustard, the chicken was hard, crusty, and completely dried out--clearly overcooked from sitting too long on the rotisserie. While disappointing, I didn't make a big deal out of it. I finished my fries, which were still hot and fresh, and calmly showed the cashier the gyro. I spoke quietly and respectfully and explained that the chicken wasn't good. She was polite and said they would remake it. I thanked her several times and explained that I normally don't complain, but I was hungry and on a short lunch break. I asked if I could take the replacement to go since I was running late. As I grabbed my jacket and returned to the counter, I overheard the cashier telling the two cooks something along the lines of, "It's not like that--he's a nice guy and comes here all the time." I took this as her trying to explain that I wasn't trying to get free food, just that the gyro had been poorly prepared. When I returned to work and opened the replacement gyro, I was shocked. There was a broom bristle placed inside the chicken gyro, hidden under a large amount of honey mustard. I have spent a significant amount of money at this business over the years, and I am beyond angry and disappointed. Putting what appears to be a dirty broom bristle--used to clean floors--into a customer's food is unacceptable, unsanitary, and malicious. Because of how this was handled and how I was treated, I will never return. I am filing complaints and sharing this experience publicly so others are aware. This is not about a bad gyro--it's about employee behavior and food safety, and I hope ownership takes this seriously.

Wow! This place REALLY surprised us…read more We were looking for something different from the usual burgers, pizza, and tacos routine after my girlfriend mentioned she'd been craving gyros. Naturally, I started searching for places nearby, and while there was no shortage of options, Nicky's immediately stood out. Their photos looked incredibly well presented, with gyro meat piled high and genuinely generous portions. When we arrived just before 7 PM, the parking lot was nearly full, and after our experience, I can absolutely see why. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They could tell it was our first visit and happily walked us through the menu, answering every question with genuine warmth and patience. The food itself was excellent. Everything came out piping hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The gyro meat was tender without being overly fatty or dry. The hand-cut fries were especially impressive, perfectly crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and seasoned just right. The onion rings and mozzarella sticks were equally well executed. The real showstopper, though, was the imported Greek baklava. I've had baklava from many different regions and styles over the years, and this was easily some of the best I've ever had. Rich, syrupy, incredibly flavorful, with a heavier note of cinnamon layered throughout that made it truly stand out. The menu is expansive, covering all the classic greasy spoon favorites you'd hope for, and the restaurant itself was clean, bright, and bustling with people clearly enjoying themselves. Near the end of our meal, the same staff member who helped us at the counter came by to check on us and ask if we needed anything else, which was a really nice touch. She also mentioned this is the original family-owned location, and honestly, that care and pride really shows. Overall, a fantastic first experience, and we're very glad we decided to stop in. We'll definitely be back soon to try more of the menu.
