The Lorenzo's restaurant that they replaced, used to be really good. I went there a lot. But then they changed the chef's and I stopped going. I had a experience with bad food and finding weird objects in my food. And that was for a birthday dinner wasn't exactly thrilled. but once I had found out there was a new restaurant was there, I was interested in trying it. Especially since we don't really have too many Greek restaurant's in the area. and It might just be me or the fact that I visited the restaurant when they first opened. It is very pricey, not much food for the money and the food wasn't as good as other Greek restaurants I have tried before. Dined here for a weekend lunch with a friend based on Yelp reviews, and I'm happy with my choice. We shared an order of saganaki with the excellent bread. I hadn't had saganaki in ages - it was salty and delicious. My friend and I each ordered the Greek salad. Our server persuaded us to get the smaller size, which I generally appreciate. It turns out that the small was right for my friend, but I would probably have liked the larger size. The vibe is very much like an Olive Garden type feel, but a little cozier and of course with a Greek rather than Italian vibe. If I lived in the area I can see having family or small birthday party dinners here. read more

Basil's does it again! I recently hosted my sister's birthday dinner and catered with Basil's Greek Dining. It was so nice to have something different. We ordered appetizers and dinner. My guests were impressed with the quality and taste of the food and I was impressed with the quantity and value. More important, the service I received was second to none. I ordered a few days ahead and George confirmed my order once it was placed. The day of the party I called to change our pick up time and they were very accomodating. They even contacted me to be sure everything was ok after the event. Too few businesses today exhibit that level of attention. Thank you for making my event stress-free! I wish I could give this restaurant a seven star rating for its exceptional service, mouthwatering dishes, and pristine management. Everything from the ambiance to the small details is accounted for and presented in a phenomenal manner. The management really does care for you to have a wonderful meal, and will do anything to make it right. We had ordered a gyro for my mom and she was not sure if she would like it. Our waiter Eric assured her that if she didn't like it, he would take it off the bill and get her whatever she would please. She ended up not liking it, (I don't know why, my brother and I thought it was excellent) and ordered grilled chicken instead (which was also excellent!). While she waited for her plate, we all had ours already, and they brought her a complimentary delicious soup! By far, this is the most hospitable, worthy, and quality restaurant we have been to, and takes the prize against places like Andiamos, Magiano. The food and service was amazing. The potion sizes were very large, but it was pretty equivalent to the price. My pastichio was $18 but was huge and came with rice and potatoes. Growing up in a Greek family, I know my way around the food pretty well. I must say this is one of the best Greek restaurants I've ever been to. Took a day trip to the outlet mall and we wanted to stop and eat somewhere we'd never been before. Will start by saying our server was amazing, she has nothing to do with this post. She was outgoing and had a great attitude. She's the only reason I'm giving 3 stars otherwise it'd be 0. My significant other and myself walk in and the hostess that sat us down initially asked us if we wanted to sit at the bar to "feel more comfortable." We said no because we weren't drinking. We then get to our table and say something about craving Gyros and she judges us as if we didn't have enough money to eat there and suggests we look at the prices on the menu before ordering. We immediately felt degraded. The host that was working with her was constantly staring at us as well, probably judging us too. Sorry to say, we might not have been dressed as well as everyone else there, but we make enough money to eat wherever we please. Money is not an issue. The food was great, but the atmosphere was very judgmental and made us feel like we didn't belong there. Needless to say, the server got and deserved a 25% tip(because we can afford that ) and the hostess got them a bad review. read more

Had yet another amazing meal last night at this family favorite restaurant. The Chilean sea bass is to die for, Chef really outdoes himself on this. It starts off with a welcome home when you enter the restaurant by manager Angelo, then heading over to the bar Maggie has everything under control, even on the busiest of nights. 5 Diners & the bill was $170. The room was nicer than most, the food fairly good but, not as authentic as I've come to expect in Lombard or, on Halsted St.. The sauce on the Kokkinisto was sweeter than any I've ever had (offensively so) and had more cinnamon than yiayia would approve of. Pork kabobs were dry. Cold plate was good enough and presentation of the Pastitsio was very clever in its own casserole rather than a square with a side. It was fine but, I don't want to pay 40 pp for fine. The service was excellent! From the waiter to the busboy, everyone was very attentive to our table. The fried calamari was salty and a little too chewy. The saganaki was tasty but the portion size was a bit thinner than we have received at other Greek restaurants. We've eaten here on a couple of occasions. I like the atmosphere with white tablecloths, tall ceilings and lighting. The service and cuisine are very good. I should have written this review several years ago. I had been to this restaurant several times with family and had fantastic experiences every time. We were so impressed with the food, the service, and the ambiance of the restaurant that my husband and I held our rehearsal dinner here in the fall of 2014. It's been a while, so I cannot remember our servers' names, but they were so fast, accommodating, and very friendly. The private room was cozy and sparkling clean and perfect for our party of 40. Most importantly, dare I say our dinner here was more delicious than our actual wedding reception dinner!!! We gave our guests a choice between the Basil's chicken and salmon and both were hits. Our family and friends were raving. For the price we paid, it was also a great value. The owner gave my husband a military discount, but their full price was still very reasonable. Visited for the first time and took my mom and sister. We got the Lamb Roast, Mediterranean Pasta and the Lamb Mac and Chess. I thought the Mac Chess was below average. My mom really hated the Lamb Roast it tasted frozen and stored. Very underwhelming place to eat. I was hoping for something better given that it has a good rating on here. Would not go back. First time customer on fri july 21 around 530/6 o clock. "Host" seated us to our table. She didnt warmly greet us or anything. Waited 10 minutes and nobody served us. Not even to ask for a drink or anything. Or bring bread while waiting - nothing. It wasnt even busy maybe 6or 7 tables. On top of that the people who waited to be seated behind us were served first. Just didnt make sense. Its understandable if it was packed but it wasnt. As a result we left disappointed in the service. Also When you are dining with a baby time is everything. This is one of the few restaurants I dine at on a regular basis (at least once a week). Everything I've tried on the menu has been absolutely delicious. Appetizers are a must, the grilled squid and gyros are my favorite. For the main course, I usually alternate between lamb and seafood dishes. The portions are good, almost enough for two people to eat. I was told that the desserts are all made in house and I can tell. Their tiramisu is incredible. Our love for greek cuisine bring us here. We start with a nice wine and one of us got tomato basil soup, the grilled octopus in appetizer was delicious and must have. In the main course we had baby lolly lamb chop medium rare that was one of the best entree there. The chicken kebab was yummylicious, though one of our friend liked the sweet potato side. I came in here with my fiancé and daughter for our 8th year anniversary and wow! The food, the drinks , desert, and service was AMAZING! Our server Maria was PHENOMENAL. She was very helpful and friendly when it came to asking about selections in the menu. We had the Denver Lamb Ribs, Grill Lemon Chicken , and kids Chicken fingers and it was all delicious. My fiancé's and my plate both had a side of Greek lemon potatoes and they were delicious! My daughter enjoy her food as well. The Rosemary Red Sangria was delicious. My husband and I have always been very fond of Greek cuisine and wanted to have a nice lunch on our day off so we decided to go to Basil since "the ambiance" was highly recommended by neighbors. The restaurant is beautiful, nice decor, an open kitchen and generously spacious. The menu had traditional Greek dishes that we were very familiar with and so we started with the grilled octopus. To our surprise the appetizer was less than pleasing. It as very greasy, over seasoned and very mushy...yes, mushy!! it seemed like it was boiled rather than grilled. I ordered the Veal Marsala and he decided to go with the Greek Panini. When my Greek salad arrived it looked more like a garden salad. Having lived in Greece for a year I can honestly say I've had Greek salad served in a variety of ways but never with quarter size feta cheese, Italian dressing, a ton of lettuce, two olives, one tomato wedge and three red onion rings. I ate half of my salad, had a nice long conversation about the quality of the food until our main dish arrived. The Veal Marsala was nothing but ordinary, it was served on a gigantic bed of spaghetti, topped with mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes. My husband's Greek Panini consisted of very dry, unseasoned chicken, with a thick piece of cheese, olives, and lettuce....with a side of fries, a pickle and a tomato wedge. At this point we both knew that the cuisine was sub par and mediocre. Do not consider this place If you are looking to experience traditional Greek food, there are so many other places that are better even if their decor might not be as grand as Basil's. read more

You know, I would REALLY love to love this place, but I just don't. I've been there several times and have tried a variety of things, and the vast majority of it is simply ok. I love their shrimp appetizer with the tomato sauce, and they have a couple of really good desserts, but I have a hard time trying to fill in what comes between. The prices aren't terrible for where you are and what you're getting, but I wish they could find a way to take their food up a notch. I may or may not go back again, but I doubt that I will make plans around Basil's; I wish yelp would allow 1/2 star reviews, otherwise I would give 3.5, as I have to mention (in all fairness) that the service there has always been excellent, and I have never had the same server twice. read more

Well, apparently saganaki is just a slice of cheese that is fried and set on fire...Definitely not worth the price. They did have a decent selection of wine and craft beer. We ended up spending $75 for two drinks, a slice of fried cheese and two pasta dishes. Doesn't seem like a good value at all. Can't say enough good things about Basils. Went last night with my boyfriend for the bar special. The bar special is fantastic. You can order any appitisers and get them for half off in the bar area monday through thursday night. Of course the saganacki is to die for so be sure to have it. We were greeted very warmly & seated right away. We originally sat outside, but then it started to rain & although the pergolas have a material covering the tops, they are not waterproof. The staff did not respond very quickly & one employee was more concerned about the paper menus not getting wet than he was about the diners. He didn't even hold the doors open for us or take our bottle of wine & glasses inside, but he was right there to hand us menus when we were seated at a table, even though we had already ordered while seated outside. If not for that simple faux pas, we would have selected Outstanding for service. The food was tasty & presented very well, except for the spinach pie which was bland. The value is very good & we made a second meal with our leftovers. The wine list is short & pricey, but we selected a $12 bottle of the Skouras Saint George Aghiorghitiko & were charged $40.
